Tony Hawk's Project 8 - General Discussion

if anyone has it, what is the trick to beat all the pro challenges achievement? Do you have to do them on sick or something? I was just looking through the list and seen this achievement and thought to my self, "Hey, I have beat all the pros. How come I don't have this achievement?"

There's one more goal you need to finish to get to rank 4. You'll get it when you finish the requirements to get rank 4.

Damn I'm only at 6 right now.
Damn I'm only at 6 right now.
I was at 6 an hour ago, but then I got 80% of sick and pro goals and I got rank 5, then I got a video message telling me to go to Tony and I finished his goal and I moved up to 4 when I was done. It was pretty easy though.

Well, I partially take back what I said about the Sick Classic goals being impossible. I actually was able to do 4 of them. Suburbia, Main Street, the Capital and the Skate Park. I doubt that I'll be able to do any more though. I also found all the secret areas, which bumped me up to spot 3, but I don't see myself going and getting any more sick goals. Every time I say that I end up going to play again though, so I don't know.

This game is bullshit!! Bullshit I tell you! Those fucking sick goals are beyond sick, they're inhuman. Neversoft is out of fucking touch with gamers. That is bullshit. They're not redeeming and they take the fun out of the fucking game.
Sick goals are for the best of the best... they are hard for a reason, but they also optional, so you don't have to mess with them if you don't want to. They also get easier once you've built your stats up a ton.

Getting Sick on the Classic challenges... now THAT'S hard as hell. I was only able to do it on Suburbia.
If I want a complete game that i have to mess with the Sick challenges, and sometimes just to further myself in the game. As i posted previously, the sick challenges are beyond sick, they're inhuman. The developers were out of their minds when they programmed the code/game to be this difficult. It takes the fun out of the game. I really wish they would bring it back to the classic THPS with the competitions. That was so much more fun. They messed with perfection and now they are trying to get it back. Don't get me wrong, this game is phenomenal and very much fun and actually the best TH game in long while, but it pisses me off about Sick.
The bowling one is hard as f*ck..60,000 hospital bill right
fucking agreed. I can get a strike easy, but to rack up 60,000 fucking stupid hospital bill is insane. It's someone's cruel joke. I can't even get close to 60,000.

Dumb question approaching...

Does anyone have any tips on doing Manuals? I can never nail these right and it stinks because they yield the most points.

Just practice practice practice, I never liked Manuals either. For some reason they're a lot harder than keeping balance while grinding. I would also try using the slomo matrix mode, it's the only way I got any of the painted manual goals.

The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked (well unless it is a really stupid question ;) ).

Is it starting them off well? I have played since before they introduced them to the series so I am really good. I found that jumping into the (in the air hit updown or downup) was easier than rolling into them. Slomo should help a bit.
I want to blaze through the 50 and 100 match acheivements. Anyone want to do them with me?
ok me too

*edit* just added you, give me a minute and I'll get on.

Holy shit the sick goals are... well.... sick. I can't see myself ever getting all of them - they are just too hard. I've never been a huge TH fan (I played THPS2, THPS3 and THPS4 and then kind of stopped) but these seem really really tough. Practice I guess...

If you guys are gonna hop on and do some Live for achievements and general enjoyment, send me a friend request and message me if you're on. I'm not good, but I just enjoy seeing other people's scores rocket as I see my skater faceplant over and over.

I agree, this is the most difficult Tony Hawk game ever. In the past, I've been able to complete all the goals without ever using focus. I don't think I'm going to be able to do that with this one and so it is completely changing the way I play these games. I'm determined to get all the sicks though, it just might take me a while.

And like others have said, feel free to invite me to a game if you see me playing this. I've rarely gotten into the multiplayer portions of the Tony Hawk games, but it could be a welcome relief after repeating these sick goals over and over.

I just settled for Pro on most challenges, I think I got sick on like 20% of the challenges and then 65% are on pro, rest where all AM which I am in the process of trying to do better in.

I just skate around trying to find new gaps and such and if I see a challenge I only got AM on I do it and try for pro on it. I even found a nail the trick challenge the other day I somehow missed in the school. I'm at spot #6 and basically at that point you should have every challenge in the game completed, so thats why I was shocked to find a challenge I haven't even attempted.

Easiest way to get 50 and 100 XBL match acheivments

Set up match first to 10,000 (unranked). This will allow you to blast through it because it takes a decent player 5 seconds to get 10,000 points.

I have to agree I've sicked every single Tony Hawk Game perfectly. This game is impossible compared to them. I feel like I don't even know how play anymore it's is insane how hard sick goals are.

I would like to have new challenges to get through the top 8, rather then redoing old ones... This game was a lot of fun until now.

This has probably been said before, but right now I'm at #7 and I've probably redone 15 goals 10 at sick and 5 at pro, is there any specific number I have to complete to go up?

I think its 70% pro and sick combined, might be 80% to get to 5, then you'll recieve Tony's challenge and when you complete that you'll be #4.

Any tips or tricks for how to get the Pro challenges for the Nail the Trick challenges. Certain ones (really only a handful) I have Sick on while the rest mostly consist of Pro.

Why does the custimization suck so bad in this game.....You would think they would integrate a tiger woods like feature....Other than that the game is ok

What do you mean? The character with the green-spiked mohawk looks just like me. Surely the game has your style of mohawk as well.

Lol!!!

I wish create-a-skater was more like the other games. This one is really bare-bones...

Thanks, I'm going to try for this... but I dunno know

Argg some of these challenges are just stupid...Hopefully Ea's skate game is realistic and good because i am getting sick of tony hawk being so damn unrealistic....

amen... and from what has been known so far, Skate is being made to feel more like real life skating than a tony hawk rip off.
Argg some of these challenges are just stupid...Hopefully Ea's skate game is realistic and good because i am getting sick of tony hawk being so damn unrealistic....
Tony Hawk has never really been realistic. My bet is that skate will do dual analog flip tricks in slomo just like P8-meaning it will be copying it.

Thats better than having to grind from the top of a 5 story building to a bench then manual 100 ft and do a 900 melon just to beat some stupid challenge....The only part i like is when you go into focus mode and pull off a flip trick to some kind of grind...The nail the trick isnt bad either but still unrealistic

All of yall complain that its not realistic but will probably bitch if they did make it realistic cause it will have to use seemingly cheap tactics to make it "realistic"... i agree that they should have a mode in there but just so that people will stop bitching about it...

Realistic will mean

Grinds and manuals wont last more then a second or two... so even if you balance perfect it will auto matically end your grind/manual after a set amount of time ... and how will they determine that? the recond for grinding?? skaters get better every day.. that figure will keep changing...and what will decide what direction you go or what your character will do when he/she ends their grind suddenly

Combos will be restricted to 3 tricks
Kickflip in - Grind or Manual for a second or two - Kick flip out
i have never seen any skater in any skate video do more then that...how will they stop you from that fourth trick ?? auto bail? should they just make it really hard....even if they do figure out a good way to do it, The goal system will be restricted to just a fraction of what it is now... so its a very short game or drawn out repetative game two choices

Character will start off not knowing how to olie... part of what keeps you going in a game is constant progression of your character... so realistically you should start off not knowing how to olie as this is a very complex move ....it should be one of the first tricks you learn after burt slide and tic tac'ing...i wonder how many gamers are gonna throw down there controllers in disgust after a minute of tryng to olie on to a ledge...

all that being said you can skate realistically if you want... it just wont get you you very far in the game... i do it all the time... pick a spot and just have fun doing little 3 move combos... or hit up gaps that don`t seem too impossible...the only thing that makes this game unrealistic is that it gives you the option to keep it going... if you dont think its realistic to pull off a 1080 off a kicker... don`t do it...if you think 50 move combos are impossible ... don't do it... seems so simple... but teh game makes me do it!! no it doesn`t ... you don`t have to constantly pull off crazy tricks to keep playing the game... just pick a spot and have fun 3 move comboing your way around... hitting up all the amature goals if you want, most of them seem doable... and you should be able to unlock a lot of areas that way ...

All in all i like this game a lot... i would love this game to the point of being disturbing if they would fix the damn framerate issues and added an instant replay feature... i would kill to see the last two minutes of my run... hell the last 30 seconds would have been cool... i dont care about the customizing features i`m sure the next game will let you put your own face (or ass if your a sick bastard) in the game and design a bail even... but i just want fluid motion and a chance to see that dope ass move i just pulled off in slow motion while i hit the bong... is that so much to ask?

my only problem with the THPS series is as it went along its gotten more arcadey as it goes along, at least in the first one you had to work to get better and pulling off 900s was actually challenging, in the THP8 demo I rolled off about 4 900's in a combo.

In tony hawk you can ollie about 6 feet....you can reverrt manual and keeps things going thats not realistic. Skaters should be more distinct to their style. Prod shouldnt be able to pull of the same vert tricks as hawk and hawk shouldnt be a great street skater. They could easily make it realistic. Grinds could be harder, manuals shouldnt last 100ft. You shouldnt be able to land a 100ft drop etc....

NO! NO IT IS NOT TOO MUCH TO ASK!

This is the Tony Hawk that we all have come to know and the majority would bitch that it doesn't play like Tony Hawk.

Not sure if I even wanna keep going with the career mode though since I'm quite certain I'll never attain that number 1 ranking. The Sick goals are just insane.
Can someone tell me how to do the goal in Buck Busters where you knock over the porta potties?
Is that the one in the skatepark? Just wall jump off of them. Skate straight at a porta potty and then ollie up and then off them.

Damn, I've tried that like 300 times.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I just got THP8. Does anybody know how to get the 500,000 point combo acheivement? I've pulled it off many times, but always in free roam, and it never gives it to me. What do I do?!?!

ya don't play in career. I think on the main menu there is a game mode where you play like a timed 3 minute session or something like that. You get the 500k combo there, as well as the 1 million total score.

Go into free skate press start and select "Start run", then u can get those two achievements (combo and 1mil score).

I totally forgot I have this game still sealed from that CostCo sale a while back. Now, should I open it or trade it in for some credit or trade here...hmm.

You should bust it open. It's pretty fun. :D

Yes, I finished it (bought it from the Costco sale) and felt it was well worth my time.

very awesome game, if you don't at least play it, then, well. You fail. It is, IMO. The best Tony Hawk game ever.

QFT. They really nailed this one. It's still in my rotation stack to unlock some more achievements. It's been a blast.

I've got the beat-a-developer achievement, so if anybody wants to play on-line sometime to unlock it by beating me, PM me. I got it by beating someone who beat a developer, but I think it ought to trigger for you by beating me.
