Sorry to ask this again but anyone heard it on the radio yet?
My friend, morpheus_49017, heard it from a station in Michigan. To quote him:

"All I can say is holy fuck. They are back BIG TIME."

You mean Jerry Cantrell replaced Layne? Or is he just gonna do the singing?

No i think they have some new dude. Maynard JK sang a few songs for them at the Tsunami benifit last year. The song was No Excuses by the way. Off of Jar of Flies. Im just getting into AIC now as i am TOOL. I already want to get all of the albums that both these bands have put out.

Heres a story from back in Late Feb.: In the words of Jerry Cantrell, "There will be some Alice in Chains shows this year — that's a fact."

There may even be a new record from the grunge rockers, who've been idle for close to 10 years. At this point, the guitarist said, all he can really say is that the band is active, and that the remaining members of Alice — himself, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney — will be taking the stage this summer to perform songs from the band's catalog.

"We're making it up as we go along," Cantrell explained. "It's what we always did in the past. We're writing the book as we live it. We feel confident that we will have a good time and that it's something that will live up to the same level. It's an exploratory thing, and we're just having fun with it. We'd like to go out and play for the people that supported us and love the music as much as we have all these years. We want to celebrate what we did and the memory of our friend."

That friend, of course, is late Alice frontman Layne Staley, who died in April 2002 from a mixture of heroin and cocaine (see "Layne Staley, Alice In Chains Singer, Dead At 34").

"We have played with some [singers] who can actually bring it and add their own thing to it without being a Layne clone," Cantrell explained, adding that the three remaining AIC members will be meeting with several would-be Staley proxies in the coming months, to front the group at European festival gigs. Alice in Chains have been listed as one of the acts performing at Austria's NovaRock Festival in June, but the guitarist said nothing's been confirmed yet.

"We're not interested in stepping on [Staley's] rich legacy," Cantrell said. "It's a tough thing to go through. Do you take the Led Zeppelin approach and never play again, because the guy was that important?" (In 1980, Zeppelin broke up after the death of drummer John Bonham.) "That's the approach we've taken for a lot of years. Or, do you give it a shot, try something? We're willing to take a chance on it. It's completely a reunion because the three of us who're left are back together. But it's not about separating and forgetting — it's about remembering and moving on."

"We're going to go and play the songs one more time," said Kinney. "It seems like the right time, so I figure we'll go out and play a few gigs and see where it goes. I think we might just show up in assorted places in the U.S. in the next few months without much notice and play some clubs and little theaters, and then go to Europe and play these festival gigs. Beyond that, we don't know at this point."

In addition, Kinney said the band hopes to play several North American dates this summer. Cantrell, Kinney and Inez started jamming together late last year, and the reunion will get into full swing March 10, when the reunited Alice in Chains perform at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, as part of VH1 Classic's "Decades Rock Live" homage to Heart. Former Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan, "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood, Rufus Wainwright and Gretchen Wilson are also set to appear. Cantrell promised a host of other special guests during the show, but he wouldn't give names.

The band will perform with Comes With the Fall frontman William DuVall — a member of Cantrell's touring band. And DuVall could, theoretically, be part of the Alice in Chains fold come this summer. "We've done some rehearsing with Will and we're having a lot of fun with him," Cantrell said. "But we're still in the beginning stages where we're trying to figure out what we want to do. He could cut it, without a doubt — but we haven't made a final decision on that yet."

"If we found some other dude, I'd love to move on," Kinney said, "write some cool tunes and change the name and go on like that. I don't see continuing as Alice and replacing somebody. ... We're not trying to replace Layne. We want to play these songs one more time, and if it seems like the right thing to do, it'll happen. I don't know how long it will go or where it will take us. It's kind of a tribute to Layne and our fans, the people who love these songs. It's not some 'I'm broke and I need the money' situation. We love playing together."

Kinney said Alice in Chains had been approached by the producers of "Rock Star" for the reality show's second season. They turned the offer down.

This report is from MTV News.

:applause:

Thank you very much for posting that! That would be hella-sweet if the remaining members decided to tour this summer. I've seen Cantrell live with his band, and they did play a few old AIC songs at that show. He's a great guitarist, and lyricist.

:bomb: Nothing near me except the Philadelphia show and thats like 2.5 hours away.

Does anyone know of a link to where we can listen to the song? It might be back up on Youtube soon but i just want to know if theres a site now. Ill keep looking and post if i find one.

Man, I heard "Vicarious" last night on the way home. I had to wait 20 minutes after they announced the song coming up. It totally rocked my ass off. I rolled up the car windows, and cranked the radio so I would have no interference from outside sources.

They also announced the Chicago tour date, and ticket price ($66.66). That's a little steep, but if it's at a 2000 seat venue, then it may be worth it.

Man, no shows in the South. That sucks.

Vicarious has grown on me. I'm still a bit skeptical of the of the 'bridge' part, if you can call it that. It's sounds almost, un-Toolish. I don't know. The amazing verse makes up for it. Two thumbs up for me.

The whole album leaked over at OiNK.

It has been confirmed it is real by many other members and I am dling it right now.

-edit Got it. Yup it's the real thing.

Not bad at all.

I think i'm going to wait. I don't know why, I just am. i want the physical CD in my hand and listen to it.

i cant download from torrents, my campus internet blocks all the major ports :( and limits p2p to 10mb throughout the entire campus...anybody gracious enough to AIM it to me? or uploady? will be enternally grateful!

Best Tool album by far, "multiple eargasms" wouldn't even begin to cover it. Ordered through Amazon.com ($10.98! Cheap!), I STRONGLY suggest you guys do the same. This CD is absolutely wonderful.
It should be like 8-10 bucks the week it releases.
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw $6.99. I bought She Wants Revenge and Educated Horses for $6.99 a pop, when they released, at Meijer.

I dunno about Tool, though. Never really liked them -- never really gave them a chance, though. I'll download this album and give it a go.

well i know most people don't like APC, but i just died a little on the inside when i read this:

A PERFECT CIRCLE's sophomore album, "Thirteenth Step", was certified platinum on March 24, 2006 by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of one million copies.

Released in September 2003, "Thirteenth Step" was described by MP3.com as "a moodier, tenser, and more atmospheric (if that is possible) recording" than A PERFECT CIRCLE's 2001 debut, "Mer de Noms".

In a recent interview with France's Rock Hard magazine, APC frontman Maynard James Keenan — who is about to release a new album with his main band, TOOL — revealed that A PERFECT CIRCLE has likely reached the end of the road as a touring and recording entity. Asked what the future holds for A PERFECT CIRCLE, Maynard said, "I think it's over," before adding, "We pushed this project as far as it could go, and I see ourselves playing again together only in a few years to make one or two songs, nothing more."

I have a small bunch of their songs (about 15) that I could send you through AIM, if you're interested.

Sad to hear about APC, but if Maynard is focusing more on Tool, I'm happy.

Coming from an avid Tool fan, this cd rocks. It will take some getting used to for me because of the obvious APC seeping into the songs, but it is still the same old Tool. This cd (after only one quick run through) gets an A from me. Well worth the money and/or download time. I will definitely have this playing non-stop though, especially Jambi, Rosetta Stoned, and Right In Two. By the way, Viginti Tres scares the hell outta me (but it is still cool).

No more Perfect Circle? That sucks, APC was what originally got me to listen to Tool. I'm loving the album so far, looks like I'll have to find a good deal release week and pick it up.

That is the crazy part about tool. Usually all of their albums take some getting used to for me, but this one caught on quick. I like "The Pot" and "Right in Two". But I usually listen to Tool albums start to finish when I listen to them. Needless to say, I will have no problem doing that with this record. On the Tool boards their is still speculation that this is a dummy or decoy album. I am not saying I believe that, but they haven't really pulled any tricks this time around (yet).

I think the dummy/decoy statements are from rabid fanboys who refuse to believe it's the real thing.

I dunno why they wouldn't want to embrace it, it's an amazing CD and I can't wait to pick it up.

Well, at least I'd die happy.

I just love how Tool is on some higher ground than most bands. When they re-invent their sound, it still has that "Tool-effect" meaning that by simply hearing 10-seconds of their song you can always say "that's definitely Tool". It's awesome to listen to these new songs and hear their past albums within the songs now mixed in with the new stuff. Funny thing is, when I go to label the songs and cd, I always place them in a "Tool" genre, because it's too hard to classify them as one style and because they are definitely unique in the music world.
I think Tool would seriously have to put some serious effort into their music if....

They ever wanted to make a bad song.
:cold:
Let's all hope that never happens...

Well we all sorta knew that APC was done. Between the rabid fights between the guitarist and Maynard (for example Maynard saying fuck OFF were doing my album, when Billy had the second album fully written), I just hope we can get more Tool albums maybe 2 years apart....not 456 A.D.

Am I the only one who gets goosebumps when I hear Maynard SCREAM Vicarously I LIVE WHILE THE WHOLE WORLD DIES!

PS i've had this album for almost 1 week now :D

shh i can't reveal how but heh...I'll have full album lyrics up soon

I get goosebumps up until the 'Why can't we just admit it?' part. It sounds very forced and doesn't fit into the rest of the song. Towards the end it works, especially when they work back into the intro of the song (that's way bad ass). Something about that initial part throws me off.

Maynard's melodies in the verse is amazing. wow, this is great stuff.

From what I've heard this cd is awesome. Tool and Pink Floyd are about the only two bands I can listen to over and over and over. Everyone who got this leaked better also pick up the release on May 2nd. I can't wait :)

Won't be coming off of winamp or out of my cd player for months. Oh, and buying Tool products are well worth it. They pack in some cool stuff.
