TOOL 10,000 Days--Album Titles Meaning--Tour dates--Lyrics--Discuss
OK, I finally bought the CD last night and the packaging totally sucks. The lenses are neat I guess but I looked at everything once and I will probably never look again. Now I'm stuck with the most awkward CD case ever that looks like shit on my shelf.
I kind of agree. And I'm still having trouble getting into this cd after 5 listens straight through. Something is rubbing me the wrong way with it.

It's just not as good as Lateralus. Either that or it's just more of the same. I'm finding it harder and harder to distinguish one Tool song from the next. I like it though but for the first time in their career I don't feel like they are breaking any new ground.

Agreed.

The weird thing is, I can see this being an album that everyone looks back on in 10 years and says, "wow, that was their best work yet."

This is either one of their best, or worst. I'm still not sure. I know that I'm definitely more into Tool's more atmospheric, i guess is the word, music. My favorite songs on Lataralus were the last four. On Aenima it was pushit and third eye. I think that's why I like Wings pt.1 and 2 on this album. that is some amazing work.

time is need to evaluate, 2 or 1 day of having an album just isn't enough.
i bet the same thing happened when Lateralus was released, half liked it, half hated it, but now it's considered a great album, 5 years later, by most.
Nothing will ever beat the combo of "Parabol/Parabola".. I loooooooooooooooooooooove it!
Lost Keys (Blame Hofman)/Rosetta Stoned is a close second.

I just listened to this album with headphones and it makes a world of difference. You can't experience this album until you sit down with some headphones on. Trust me, go do it and you will hear things you didn't catch before. This is an amazing cd.

Its better and better with each listen guys. I was the same way "hmm i dont know" Its just that musically they're changing in some ways. Keep listening its gets better. This album is starting to seperate the truly faithful fans and those bandwagon ones though and its hilarious. No offense meant towards anyone here. Mostly people at toolshed.down.net, there opinion forums are hilarious, one guy loves it the bandwagon fan flames its so funny.
Because obviously someone who is a Tool fan has to like this album or they're no longer a "faithful" fan.
Yeah, I agree that if you don't like something it makes you a fairweather fan. I'm of the opinion that Opiate is pretty much garbage. I'll listen to it, but nothing in there strikes me as fantastic. I guess I'm fairweather since I don't jack off to everything Tool does. There best work has been in their last albums. The more progressive they've gotten the better their music has been. I don't even like Undertow that much, and Aenima is slightly over-rated. Now Lateralus, that is some amazing shit.

My favorite part in Rosetta Stoned is when Maynard responds to the question, "What's happened? Tell me everything." With, "Alrighty-then." HA, that's pretty funny.

Haha, "Alrighty then, picture this if you will."

I fucking love that part.

Like i said not directed to the guys on here. Its more so directed towards the other guys just letting you know that they're all crying over there.

I love that part to. Alrighty than, picture this if you will.

I've been a fan since Aenima.. this is just like every other tool cd. Every listen gets better.

And whoever said you have to listen with headphones is right. I'm doing that right now and its like a different album than when i listened in the car or at home..

That was me!:D Pay close attention to the bass and drums in 10,000 Days. I never noticed how intricate it was. When you listen to it in your car you ears put the bass in the background and focus in on the guitar line and vocal melody. They do some fascinating things as a rhythm section in that song, especially towards the end.

If you couldn't score tickets to Tool's upcoming club shows, don't worry -- frontman Maynard James Keenan says those dates are just warm-up gigs. "We're doing a full-on tour at the end of the summer which goes almost everywhere," the singer promises. "And in the new year, we'll go almost everywhere else." Keenan adds the following piece of advice about price-gouging scalpers: "Don't buy the tickets from them. Just wait until August. Screw them."
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'll be there.
Where'd that quote come from?
Where'd that quote come from?
It came from a news feed from MJI Interactive via the local rock station's website. I'll try to find another source ...

Ah, it was posted on toolband.com on April 24th.

Is it just me, or is 10,000 Days one of those CDs you have to listen to all the way through in order for any part of it to really work? I mean, as I was listening to it, parts were pissing me off, but then as the album went forward, they made sense.

I only feel that way with Wings Pt 1/2 and Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned.

Vicarious, Jambi, The Pot, Intension, and Right in Two I can listen to in any order.

Lipan Conjuring and Vigniti Tres are weird any way you listen to them, but still cool.

Yea, this album seems like it won't have as strong singles as Lateralus or any of the other past albums, because it's more of an overall experience instead of something that can be dissected track by track. I'm thinking it's not coincidence that the first single is also the first track of the album.

I'm taking those 2 songs off my iPod tonight. The rest of the cd kicks ass, though.

By the way, Octane (channel 20) on Sirius is playing both "Vicarious" and "The Pot" as singles now...

Tool was ... wow. Words fail me. And, suprising to me (haven't looked at any setlists for the past few dates) they played "Sober" and ended the night with "Ænema". Just ... wow.:cool::cool::cool::cool::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

EDIT: Setlist ... complete as far as I remember it ...

Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
Stinkfist
The Pot
Forty-Six & 2
Jambi
Schism
Eon Blue Apocalypse/The Patient
Sober
Lateralus

Let's all sit around on the platform with Maynard and Danny time

Vicarious
Ænema

EDIT 2: We were about 5 feet away from the stage, just inside the speakers. The venue was maybe the size of a high school gym, if that. Someday, I hope my hearing will return.:lol:

Check out what I noticed when ripping a copy of this to listen to so I don't fuck up the original:

Coincidence? I doubt it.
No, but it is the price of tickets for this tour :p
$666.60 cents? Sheesh! ;)

Do you remember that Tool did weird stuff like use the fibonacci sequence on the syllables of the verses in Lateralus? This is even crazier and cooler, and you have to follow a couple of steps to get it.

The mystery of the filler "Vigniti tres" and the two "Wing" parts being a bit similar to each other now make sense, as well as the cover of the album. If you play Wings pt1+Vigniti Tres at the same time as Wings pt 2, you realize that the 2 songs are equal in length to Wings pt2 ... That means that they are meant to be synchronized! The frickin' band synchronized 3 songs!!!! The cover of the album has two faces looking sideways and one big face looking towards you. MAybe the two faces are the 2 smaller songs and the bigger face is the long song ... combined result in one big head.

Just check it out ... the combination is incredibly well done. I am breathless!!! The sync with vigniti tres with the second half of wings pt2 is probably the coolest part, but the first half is really cool too with different riffs in syncs, talk and response of voices, complicated drumming, etc.

The problem is to do it right. The method I use is very hard. I put my headphones in first. I put my Tool disc on the computer, and use windows media player on just track 4 (wings pt2), then transform tracks 3 and 11 into mp3 files in your disc (downloading it may not work since the tracks may vary in length, unless you use something like torrent, stick with mp3 transformation since it's legal though). Ok, now that you have the mp3s ... click play on those two files using winamp.

Now, here comes the tricky part. Press play on the winamp file then pause it. Now, move the winamp windows in a way so that it's very close to the play button of window media player. Now get the time bar of winamp to the far left (the beginning of the wings pt1) and press play, immediately pressing play on the windows media player one. There will be like a 1/10 second difference and is not very noticeable at all.

Maybe there's another way ... if you have two CD drives, maybe you could burn your 10,000 days CD twice (one with wings pt2 and one with the other two songs) play the two at the same time and you won't have to do any tricky stuff.

Or you could avoid all that and convert the files to WAV and mix them together to one MP3.
I must hear this ...
Alright, I gave it a listen, and ... it mostly works. Maybe with a slight amount of tweaking it could be better, I did it real quick 'n' dirty.
I must hear this ...
yeah, if someone wants to take the time to put it into an mp3 I'd love to hear it too...
:whistle2:$ (click me)
Awesome. I hope it's still there when I get home so I can download it. Thanks a lot! How does it sound?

After reading that other thread where this started a band named "Rosetta" was mentioned (Rosetta Stoned, anyone?) and apparently they released a double album a few months ago - one really heavy and the other not so much. There are 5 songs on each CD with the exact same times and if you play them simultaneously you get one "full" album (even though the two also work independant of each other) - that shit is so cool...

so, I'm sitting here at work and I notice that the guest of a client has a Tool backstage pass clipped to his backpack. I say the new album is great isn't. Turns out it was the engineer of the album, I'm glad I said nice things

It's pretty good. A few parts don't quite match up, but overall it works.

Sounds great. Thanks!

hey guys, actually the correct way to do it is
Vigniti Tres+Wings For Marie and 10,000 days at the same time. Vigniti Tres has to start at the beginning. then it will match.

Interesting. Idea stolen from subby, so you all can be the judges. I like it.

Edit: link removed, Audacity didn't line it up right. I'll fix it... but this definitely works. "Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence" should line up perfectly, which was my clue that I fucked up.

Christ, it's so close, but it just doesn't line up perfectly at the end. The lyrics are just a bit slower in one of the parts of Wings so the ending gets off. I lined up the beginning of the lyrics, and the rest of the mix sounds pretty nice though.

:bouncy: If someone else wants to see if they can make it line up better, then by all means have at it. I'm still not sure what half of the shit in Audacity even does, so maybe someone with more experience can do a better job.
