Immense gratitude to Shrike4242 for updating this thing while I was away!!!

This is an odd one.....

Basically the gist is that Toys R Us is reducing its inventory by 20% by marking down over 6,000 skns from it's inventory, most of which are toys. There are however roughly 300 or so video games/accesories that will be a part of this clearance. As of 7/11 all have been marked down from 30-50%. TRU is seeking to aggressively move these skns out of its stores. So if these games have not sold in roughly a months time they will be marked down again...a month later, again.....and so on until it's gone. So if you're the gamblin' type I suppose you could hold out for cheaper prices. Prices seem to be good everywhere, though there may be some variance in prices between stores.

Everything that is a part of this sale is on a 3 week cycle, meaning that every three weeks any items remaining in the stores will receive another price drop. Seeing as how these prices went into effect on the 11th of July we should be seeing them all drop again on the 1st of August.

The only caveat here being that retail is an odd beast that can be subject to change. So basically there is another price drop coming that in all likelihood will happen on the 1st so check back on the than to see what's up.

*****CONDENSED VERSION FOR THOSE OF US THAT ARE NOT SO GOOD WITH THE READING*****

a.) TRU marked down a shiton of inventory.

b.) Inventory will continue to be marked down if they do not sell.

c.) Prices may vary between store.

today I bought the last two things I want from this sale.

Dragonball Z: Budokai 3 (Greatest Hits)- $9.98
Killer 7 (Gamecube)- $9.98

Killer 7 is for a friend of mine and DBZ I almost paid $20 for this weekend. Glad I found it on the cheap. I was also happy to find that the copy of DBZ was the fixed one.

I just got 3 Soul Calibur 2 special edition strat. guides for 50 cents each! These are the ones that come with the game soundtrack. They must have just been sitting around.
Can anyone confirm more drops?
I can confirm that we should probably stop asking, as four people have now asked the same question on the same page.

I'm going out to a few stores and will probably stop at TRU. I'll scan some UPC's and see if the items I scanned are any lower today

No drops here either, though I did pick up the sale items I wanted anyway -- FE:poR, Donkey Konga, FFXI+HDD, Meteos x3, Suikoden Tactics, and DQVIII boxset. I was quite happy with my haul, hoping this 3 week cycle thing holds true so I can get a price adjustment.

What is this price adjustment thing you speak of. Will they really do that for clearance items? If so, damn, I might as well just go over and buy the games I want instead of waiting for another price drop.

Blah. My TRU didn't price drop so I went ahead and got the last copy of Meteos for $15...can't wait for the next price drop. Fire Emblem:poR for $15 sound sweeeeeeeeeeet... :)

Price tagged at $0.50 that way?

It's true these are clearance but I see no reason why they wouldn't do it. They do have to take returns regardless I think, so then it would just be a matter of 'returning' and then buying again immediately at the lower price.
Last I remember from when I worked at TRU is that price changes were done on Thursdays. Check again Thursday.
Ah excellent, Thursday it is then.

Well they would send the list of the price changes as early as Sunday but the prices would be inactive within the system until Thursday morning. I would always have the list by Monday and I'd look through it and put anything on hold that I liked until Thursday so I could buy it.

Im so glad right now, as I managed to grab a Taiko Drum Master for $19.99. I was pissed when I missed the $9.99 Target clearance recently but I have it now. I also saw one copy of FE Sacred Stones but passed it up. Hopefully I will find that one a little cheaper later on. That and I haven't quite finished the first one yet.
Price tagged at $0.50 that way?
The Soul Calibur 2 (special edition) was pennied out a long while back. I remember picking it up for a penny, after it had gone after a few round of discounts (.99, .50, etc.) While the standard practice is to just send them back to the publishers (covers that is, after they come down to a penny) , some stores put special discount stickers and try to sell them for more. That same day, I tried to get a bunch of penny guides, but was denied. Since the Soul Calibur 2 guide was in the discount cart, they let me have it...not a total waste.
I think it has been changed to Monday based on the recent TRU weekly markdown threads
So what does this all mean...

A. price changes should start Monday
B. price changes should start Thursday, but won't be advertised until Monday
C. price changes should start Thursday next week
D. none of the above

I used to get the list of markdowns on Mondays but they would not be active until the following Thursday (3 days later). So it's best to check on Thursdays.

I am also told stock that sinks that low is actually supposed to be thrown out -- a while back, I found an FFX-2 guide with no price tag on it. They rang it up and it showed that it was to be removed from TRU a while back. The guy just let me have it. :)

Surprised you found that SC2 guide. I got that for around that much a while back. That soundtrack is pretty solid -- still listen to it now and then.

they changed a few months back. they are on mondays now.

Still looking for the following from the TRU sale:

DS

Monopoly/Yahzee/Boggle/Battleship combo!!! (Anyone??)

GC

Alien Hominid

XBOX

Tron 2.0

If you can help, please let me know.

Thanks,
Steve
I bought MK: Deception for the Cube for $10. Did I make a mistake?
Better on the Xbox -- at least control-wise; then again, I'm one of those people who think the GCN controller is best for Nintendo's 1st party titles.

I got Killzone today for $5 at ToysRus

they didn't have many clearance games but i'm glad killzone was one of them

Has anyone found Mega Man X Collection for the GC yet?

I've been to 4 TRUs with no luck still. I plan on hitting them back up on Monday should the price drops go into affect, I can certainly look to pick up something for a trade, I have seen the GC & GBA breath of fire games, as well as, Suikoden Tactics for the PS2.

Returned my MK: Deception GC. Realized that no matter how awesome MK:Shaolin Monks is, I still don't like fighting games that aren't Soul Calibur.
Scored another Yahtzee/Boggle/Monopoly/Battleship combo pack today!
It seems as though you're the only one who can find one (or two) of these puppies!

I've been asking since the inception of this thread for anyone to let me know if they can find one of these.

PM sent - hope you'll reply.

Yep - have an extra as well.

Didn't find much that I was interested in at TRU today...but I did see a couple posters sticking out between a rack and the counter and I asked the guy what they did with them...he said toss 'em and that I could have them. There was a Mario Party 6 poster and a NDS "Touching is Good" Poster. So I got two huge posters for free.

I didn't see anything about this in the OP (and no way I'm going through 700+ posts), but I went to the TRU in Danville, VA today and they have a week long special where you can get 20% off on most of the games that end in .98. If this is already known I apologize, but there is no way to search for 20% in the forum.

They had....

Castlevania Double Pack GBA $19.98 - after 20% it is $15.98 (Sweet price. I was about to pay $30+ at Re-Play before I went to Danville today.)

King of Fighters EX2 GBA $9.98 - after 20% it is $7.98 (glad I waited on this one)

Trapt PS2 $29.98 - after 20% it is $23.98 (not the best price I have seen, but it's the only store copy I have seen for miles)

They still had at least one more KOF EX2, and I think 3 more of the Castlevania Double Pack if anyone is interested in going there. I am not sure if I'll be going back since I really don't have extra cash to spend.
What 20% off and when does it end?
Here's a scan of my receipt...

I was told it ends at the end of the week.
Is this 20% nationwide?
I'd say YMMV to be on the safe side, but I don't ever recall this TRU having a sale that another TRU wasn't having.

The extra 20% off is in a few select markets that were posted 4-5 pages back. I'm still awaiting this new cycle of drops that was supposed to arrive last week :\

I'll be gettin up early tommorow and headin to my local TRU. I'm on the west coast so i won't be of too much help but I'll report my findings.

I will go see if my TRU has this 20% off later today thanks. It sure would be nice to get Konami Arcade Advance for $6.38. I bought F-Zero GP Legend for $4.98 plus tax on July 26 will TRU price adjust the new 20% off price if I bring in the receipt?

Went to a TRU in SE Michigan again today

The 20% off was not valid, so that is indeed YMMV, in accordance with the aforementioned select markets

Prices had not dropped yet either, the woman I spoke to in the RZone told me to keep checking back on Monday, as she gets a variety of new price drops every Monday morning.

Against my better judgement, I went back and picked up some more stuff.

Suikoden Tactics $11.98
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones $11.98
Gamecube portable screen $23.98
Official Xbox Communicator (not pictured) $7.98

You lucky fucker, I'd have loved to have picked that stuff up, (minus the comm) for those prices.

Hopefully the prices drop soon enough so I can pick up both the GBA & GC fire emblem games, Suikoden Tactics, and God willing I'll find Mega Man X collection at one of the last 2 TRUs in my area... or maybe I'll find it on the road when I start my new job!
