Transformers Movie - DVD & HD DVD Sales Break Records

We beat Spidey!
Although analysts had expected that it would perform strongly, Paramount/DreamWorks' Transformers surpassed even the most sanguine predictions, taking in an estimated $67.6 million over the weekend and $152.5 million since it opened with a single, "preview" screening last Monday. The seven-day total represented a record for a nonsequel, surpassing the original Spider-Man, which earned $151.6 million in 2002. (Spider-Man registered more admissions, however -- 26.1 million versus 22.5 million for Transformers.) Overseas, the film's take was equally impressive as it earned $246.1 million in 29 countries.

There was a couple of lines that made the audience laugh:

"Could you go down to the kitchen and bring me up a Ding dong?"

"Optimus, those human parents are annoying....can we blast them?"

ok its been officially a week since the greatest movie of summer 2007 has been released. Most of you have already seen it 3 or more times. My 3rd viewing is TOMORROW!! As most of you have already have seen it, I suggest that we stop spoiler tags and talk freely about any part of the movie.

You gotta love it when the sales man mom gave him the finger lol.

Bernie Mac was absolute gold in the movie. Only 3? Cmon ITDEFX, you gotta beat my 4 viewings =D

I envy you guys, I ended up broke late last week so I couldn't see it this past weekend. I just recently found out that there's a theater 20min away that has DLP projection and they are showing Transformers. I'm going to have to go tomorrow night.

How's DLP? Is it like watching HD DVD's or HD Television?

oh but I will sir, I will...however I just started working again and don't get out til around 4:15ish. I will put in my 3rd viewing tomorrow then after wednesday we will see as Harry Potter will start filling out most of the screens TF was on :( I am sorry, but I really don't see the point of watching a movie about a bunch of teenage wizards when I can see a movie about a bunch of robots kicking each other asses.

I think my head would explode if I watched Transformers on an IMAX screen.

DlP for transformers is a must and amazing i wouldn't even want to see this movie if it wasn't dlp.:D

I finally saw this last night... absolutely loved it. There were a few points where it felt kinda forced, but I appreciated the bits of fan service Bay through out there. This will go perfectly on my shelf next to my 20th Anniversary Transformers movie once it's out on DVD.

Someone kindly fill me in on a bit of the movie I missed when I went to take a phone call. I'm sure I didn't miss much, but I'd like to know anyway. There had to be some goofy movie logic going on, I'm sure.

It was the scenes between the time Sam gets to the alley behind his house at night with the Autobot convoy and when the S7 guy checks him for radiation (I'm guessing). I think that would be about 10 minutes or so of movie time. Thanks.

Wow. You probably missed the funniest 10 minutes of the movie. No joke. I'm at work so I'm too lazy to type it out...but I'm sure someone else can inform you. But yeah, funniest 10 minutes. Go see it again :)

Saw it last night, and wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. Pure eye candy.

I especially loved the scene where Starscream tears apart the jets- the motions just seemed so fluid and well thought out. Hit, transform, transform back, shoot, transform, transform back, hit, etc.

Saw it last Friday. I thought it was great. Not much of a story, but I certainly didn't go for a story ;)

I'm going to see it again this Thursday.

Yeah, you missed the funniest part of the movie. Now you have to go see it again.

ok came back from my third viewing today.

Not many people in the theater :( I say about 20-30 people.

Anyways....

Anyone noticed that the decepticons use the same hologram mustash guy for there drivers?

Saw it roughly 10 times now (give or take a few scenes), I saw the ending at least 50 times by now, and I only "liked" the movie. Then again, I spend most of my days in a Movie Threater, so it can't be helped ;)

One week later and I'll stick by what I said: Awesome action marred only by a half-assed story and a really strong attempt at appealing to the ghetto fabulous crowd. I love the action scenes, felt in-different about the humor (although I did find all the Black stereotyping to be hilarious, in a wrong sort of way) and loathed the story.

 Although, I only noticed him in the helicopter and Barricade after Sam runs right into it.

you missed the part after Frenzy gets off Air Force One and just gets into a cop car that no one notices. Mr. Mustash looks at frenzy as he uploads the data and glitches. I think the last time we see him is when Blackout receives the order to converge on Megatron's location.

Honestly if they really wanted to get a hold of sam, the decepitcons (Barricade/Frenzy) could have put out a warrant out for his arrest and bam, let the humans do the work for them. :)

Also did anyone notice how stupid that cop interrogation scene was? What kind of a cop would tell someone to take a shot at grabbing his gun?!?!?!

Yeah, I loved that scene also, probably my favorite one out of the movie, especially since Starscream is my favorite Transformers character.

seems USPS got a promo in this movie too! A USPS mail box, nice and clean no less while everything around it dirty, burnt, destroyed. :)

Oh... I thought that was the same guy, but I was kinda confused... I thought Frenzy jumped in the squad and there was a real officer in there just going "wtf...." staring at him. I thought Frenzy was going to slowly look up and go "oh shit... somebody in here" and then just demolish him. Didn't know it was his hologram as I thought he was there before Frenzy.

That cop was fucking weird, but funny.

Yeah. Stupid but hilarious. I love that actor. I think most people know him from Band of Brothers.

So now most of my co-workers and buddies have seen the movie...and they all loved it! I don't what kind of meth withdrawal shipwreck went through when he did his review, but it seemed like all the people I mentioned the podcast to went out of their way to indicate how wrong those impressions were.

Meh, I barely have time to play games let alone go out to the movies these days, so maybe I'll catch it on HD disc or something later...

Are you on drugs?

I loved how it opened with the Scorpion fight, I was sayin' "yea, this movie is gonna be awesome:cool:"

I loved it when they transformed and did the rollerblading on the freeway :D

Too bad Jazz gets ripped so easy, but Megatron was a friggin' beast o_O

Ladiesman217, hmmmm....I think I've seen that guy on Ebay :whistle2:k

I just saw the movie at the drive in last night, and I agree the movie was done very well, but I was disappointed maybe I was into the old shows way to much, or maybe alot of these guys have changed in the newer cartoons but they missed the mark on alot of the things for me, and it kept me from really enjoying the movie. I don't know if this was mentioned before, I don't want to read through 30 pages.

My biggest problem with the movie.... STARSCREAMS voice..... GOD, If you are only going to give the guy like 2 lines in the movie, could you PLEASE get the voice right?? At least that was at the end of the movie so I didn't have to stew on that for to long, and a least Megaton said "You failed me again starstream" saying that they still hate each other.

Second problem.... Devestator.... Man, if you aren't going to get him right, just don't put him in the movie at all. I realize that it might be hard to get 5 construction vehicles to transform into Devestator, but he was a badass and a big big part of the cartoons. Don't just turn him into a tank. There are 100's of other transformers to put in the movie, pick one of them.

Lastly, it's not a problem anymore, but I thought that Frenzy in the movie was suppose to be Soundwave.... I actually threw up in my mouth when I saw him turn into that little radio, and thought ooooo noooo they aren't trying to tell me this is soundwave. But then I remembered he was a cassette that came from Soundwave.... So where is Soundwave in the movie?? I love that guy.

I still can't choke down bumble bee being a camaro. I know he has to be in the movie, and he should play a big part, and I know VW doesn't want their car in the movie and have it shooting at people, but you really need to work something out. Create a new transformer if you have to to cover the camaro just don't use bumble bee. I was saying to myself when I saw the old camaro, "they brought hot rod back, so they are already setting up the next movie, or a triology so he can turn into rodimus and take the leader role for the autobots" I was like SWEET. Then I saw the bumble bee air fresher hanging from the mirror.....

Even though I complain the movie was still good. I really liked the desert fight scene, and the roller blading fight scene. The cast did a great job to. I hope they do a second one, maybe they will clean it up a bit... But everyone that sees it should enjoy it, it is a perfect summer movie

Sequel news and TF records:

Voice actor Mark Ryan was interviewed by SKNR and said he's "recently recorded more material for the DVD release of the film. It has to do with the Prequel that will set up the second film."
Oh, for all those still keeping score, Superhero Hype has a box office update on the Cybertronian adventure in theatres now, noting that the movie "set an industry record for a non-sequel of $155.4 million in its opening week, surpassing the previous record held by the original 'Spider Man' in 2002." It also can claim to be "top July 4th weekend ($70.5 million) for a non-sequel, surpassing the studio's own 'War of the Worlds' in 2005 ($64.9 million)" and "op Wednesday gross of all time ($29.073 million) for a non-sequel, beating the previous record holder 2004's 'The Passion of The Christ' ($26.6 million)." I'm I reading this right...The DVD will have a prequel setup for the sequel? That sounds pretty damn cool!

I picked up Barricade tonight at Wally World, dang they made these complex. I'll have to bring out my very limited G1 stuff to go with it.

You think Barricade is hard? Wait til you get a hold of Starscream and Blackout... Based on what I read and my own personal experience, Starscream takes about 30-45 minutes to transform the first time to robot mode. Blackout took me 20 minutes :(

For the little kiddies, they made simple easier transformations for the same characters, but we collectors get screwed. At the end of this month, I am buying all the main characters in the movie, minus Barricade, Starscream, and Blackout since I have them already. Leader class Prime and Megatron look huge!

I'd love to have all those, but I don't have the money. I'll probably pick up Ironhide, Bumblebee and Ratchet.

hmm I can't find Bumblebee except in a smaller form like a keychain or the larger unleashed one.

It's too bad they never made something for Frenzy, I guess since he was such a complex character all they could do is come up with something like what they did for Barricade..that little fold out thingy in the front of Barricade.

I saw it once, I believe it's exclusive to a retailer. Goes for over $30 on eBay, apparently.

Found it on Amazon, but it's a full $10 over retail.
