Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.
Near the end of my shift tongiht, I went to grab a few games to pick up via "the glitch" on payday. I was thinking COD: FH, Musashi and XMen Legends. As I was walking down the aisle, some little bastard grabbed the last ticket for COD: FH. I was not too happy. So figured I'd give Tron 2.0 a shot.

BTW - What's the big deal with Gallop Racer? We have one copy of 2004 left on GT, it's been sitting there ever since the GT event started.
any chance of you picking it up for me?

I was able to get Mega Man X Command Mission (PS2), Sega Superstars (PS2) and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (XB) for $21.60 after tax. I wanted to get Guilty Gear (XB), but it was $19.99, not $19.95. =P

I hope TRU does not fix this little loophole come the 23rd. My store is stacked to the brim with Ace Combats and some other $49.9x GT titles. ^__^
PS2 Demon Stone $9.97
PS2 Katamari $9.99
PS2 Hot Shots Golf Fore $0.00

PS2 Robots $9.97
Xbox Galleon $9.97
PS2 Suikoden IV $0.00
Damn! The TRU I work at has very few "good" games.... I sure wish I could find Katamari, Suikoden and HSG:F locally. :(

How about i send you $20 and you get me some copies ;)

Does anyone know if the Shin Megami Deluxe edition, regularly 54.99, is green tagged? I have only seen people talking about the regular version which is originally priced at $49.99.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but it looks like Call of Duty Finest Hour has been added to the GT list ($19.99) There were several left when I went earlier, so I got...

Call of Duty 9.99
Katamari 9.99
Shadow of Rome 0.00

Total $21.18

That is a great deal! Gotta love TRU
Does anyone know if the Shin Megami Deluxe edition, regularly 54.99, is green tagged? I have only seen people talking about the regular version which is originally priced at $49.99.
no it is not. The one that is green tagged is SMT: Nocture, a completely different game.
Sorry guys-glitch will be fixed as of Friday morning.
What's the glitch?

And noone say READ THE THREAD. I'm not reading dozens of pages for one shred of info.

I got...

Guilty Gear X2 9.99
Viewtiful Joe (PS2) 9.97
Fable 0.00

Total $21.21

I was very disappointed in the selection of non-green tagged games that qualified for the sale. Am I correct in stating that I have the following options with Fable?

1) Trade in for another $19.99 game within 45 days (I guess this is a YMMV by store?)
2) Return it within 45 days for a refund of $13.33

If this is correct I'll probably stop back by in a few weeks and see if there is anything worth trading for, but I'll be happy to take the $13.33 if not.

I didn't see it listed, but there also some Nintendo DS games on this green tag list,

Feel The Magic XX/XY- $19.99
Polarium- $29.99
Retro Atari- $19.95

These prices are all before the 50% discount. enjoy.
Sorry guys-glitch will be fixed as of Friday morning.
Nothing to be sorry about really :) Was to be espected seeing as how TRU would have lost their asses come the big B2G1Free deal.
What's the glitch?

And noone say READ THE THREAD. I'm not reading dozens of pages for one shred of info.
A glitch in the way TRU registers would give you a free game on the B2G1Free deal. You could buy 2 $19.99 green-tagged games for $10 each and get a free full priced $19.99 game for free if it was rung up last.
We need some proof.
Its pretty obvious from his previous posts that sren9 works at TRU and has given us CAG the lowdown on TRU game lists and deals before anyone else. This news is pretty much garunteed true.
Sorry guys-glitch will be fixed as of Friday morning.
To bad I was hoping it would work for the next b2g1f. Imagine the money they would have lost of that.
I might have to stop buy, if only for some trade fodder for more PSP stuff.

Damn you TRU, put PSP stuff on sale! Damn the man!
Yeah to bad the next b2g1f doesn't include PSP games. The TRU by me doesn't really have a decent PSP selection. Right now I am just hoping to see some 19.95 games before christmas.
Sorry guys-glitch will be fixed as of Friday morning.
So does this mean green tagged games that are below $19.99 after 50% off will be usable in this sale now or are we screwed on all fronts?

BTW- I seriously considered trying to exploit this glitch today but figured that it had already been fixed. Should have known this would happen...
Damn! The TRU I work at has very few "good" games.... I sure wish I could find Katamari, Suikoden and HSG:F locally. :(

How about i send you $20 and you get me some copies ;)
Sorry, that was in Maryland, and I'm in Oregon as of right now :D.

The "glitch" is really being fixed? I'm glad I got the games I did then on my trip. I almost held off on a few, because, being the cheap-ass that I am, I wanted to get them in OR with no sales tax. That would have been a dumbass move if they really do fix the "glitch".

Ah - at my first read through I assumed the glitch was that green-tag games work AT ALL for the Buy 2 Get 1 free. I guess the glitch is just the ability to get the regular $19.95 games for free along with 2 green-taggers. That's not such a big deal, as the TRU's around Portland generally don't have very good selections. I wouldn't have found Suikoden IV (or Katamari to buy with it). They also don't have a great selection of $19.99 green-taggers to triple up with the normal game. So no big deal - glad I was in DC this week though!
PS2 Demon Stone $9.97
PS2 Katamari $9.99
PS2 Hot Shots Golf Fore $0.00

PS2 Robots $9.97
Xbox Galleon $9.97
PS2 Suikoden IV $0.00

So, with tax, $7 for each game. I have no idea what I'm going to do with Demon Stone or Robots, but for $7 I can hold on to them. Did I already mention how much I like this deal? :D. I mean, except for the fact that you might have to buy a few games that weren't your first choice, you are basically getting a non-green tag game like Suikoden IV for a roughly 70% green-tagged value, and it is not even time for 70% yet.

I had to stop the clerk in one case from ringing up the "normal" game second (instead of third) - she kept saying it doesn't matter, the computer picks the free one anyway, but I didn't want to take my chances :). I don't think she realized one was not 50% off to begin with.

By the way, the Tyson's Corner, VA, Rockville, MD, and Gaithersburg, MD TRU's all have multiple Suikoden IV's. At least 2 of those also had Katamari - not green-tagged, so they might stick around for a bit. Lots of other $19.99 green-tagged games to match up with the regular priced ones - I think I saw that Guilty Gear game everyone talks about, and also piles of CoD:FH.
I'm actually surprised that they would let you do that.
Most well trained cashiers would scan through the games the customer brought up to the counter and rearrange them so that the normal (higher) priced product is rang first, with the lower priced items rung later (thus giving you the lowest priced prodcut free.)

All of this sounds like a training issue at various TRUs rather than a "glitch".

This has nothing to do with training. It was a glitch. It should not matter what order you ring the games in. The movie sale this week has not experienced any issues such as this. This is just because of the green tag sale and our register software being so ancient. The company lost thousands of dollars last year and were starting to lose that this year....

Heck, I had picked up copies of Mech Assault 2 LE, Tales of Symphonia, Killzone and Burnout 3 recently courtesy of this glich and was considering buying even more. Then again, my local store's selection of full price $19.99 games that I really wanted was kind of weak anyway.
are you sure its been fixed? Damn i was gonna grab THUG 2 today!
I think he did you a favor then, THUG 2's the worst in the series :)

If they make it so the green tagged games are marked down first and then the b2g1 free takes effect we should be able to get $39.99 green-tagged games for b2g1 free :)

HAHA, thats probably worth a shot - there was at least one i wanted too.
Can anyone confirm for sure that the glitch is fixed?
As of 12:38pm today, I can confirm that it still WORKS. My receipt:

Capcom Classics Collection (XB) $19.99
Galleon (XB) $9.97 ($19.95-$9.98)
Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (XB) $0.00 ($19.95-$19.95)

Total (before tax): $29.96

:D

Only Galleon was green-tagged!

Well, it really doesn't matter to me, since the glitch would just fix getting a non-GT game for free. However, you should still be able to get 3 GT games for $20 (for the last day, which is the 8th). I am on break right now from college, so I'll be checking out the Bangor, ME TRU tomorrow. I'll report back to this board and let you know if the glitch still works for the last day of this B2G1F sale.

Although, I really hope this glitch makes it to the 23rd since getting 3 newer titles for $50 is an amazing deal.

OK, let me get this straight (I've been at work all week and can't seem to read straight): You buy two games, get one free. They are all supposed to be GT games. However, the glitch allows only one game in there to be GT and you still get one free, as long as they are all normally under $20. Correct?

(As in, the GT games must be at $20 before discount, not after)

Alright, what the glitch is for anyone who doesn't know:

Combing the GT and 1 regularly priced game, meaning:

GT game (9.99 after discount)
GT game (9.99 after discount)
NON-GT game (free after B2G1F)
TOTAL: 19.98 + tax

So as long as you ring up the NON-GT game 3rd it'll come up as free, however, it shouldn't do that since the last game is actually the most expensive one (19.99 instead of 9.99). So all those games would like like this after the glitch was to be fixed:

GT game (9.99 after discount)
GT game (free after B2G1F)
NON-GT game (19.99 regularly priced, even if it's scanned 3rd)
TOTAL: 29.98 + tax

But I was saying that even if the glitch is fixed you can still get 3 GT games for $20, since one of the 3 would be free with the B2G1F, hope that helps.

So then, why is sren9 telling me this is NOT a training issue?
In any of these type of promotions at just about any store, it's standard practice for management to tell the cashiers to ring the most expensive product first, and then the less expensive so that the customer always gets the least expensive product free.
Knowing that Green Tags are 50 precent off, all of the cashiers (if properly trained and current with the promos TRU is running) SHOULD ring those last.

Now, this is of benefit to the consumer to know that, but it's to TRU's detriment for thier cashiers NOT to know that.

I can't see how this can be ANYTHING but a training issue.
Most stores have antiquated systems for ringing up product... and many, many stores (KB, etc) all experience this glitch in thier systems... but they send out corporate dicates telling managers exactly how thier cashiers should ring things up... properly training those in thier employ.

It becomes a non-training issue if the full price game is $19.95 and the GT games are 19.99. Then the computer will automatically pick the 19.95 game. So even if the above situation is a training issue (they don't even mark half the games at the TRUs I visit now, so I wouldn't expect the cashiers to know every green tagged game), its still a system problem that I would enjoy exploiting if the selection was a little better.

In that particular case, botticus, I'd agree. That would be a system issue, as it's not the method which the cashier rings that dicates the price.

But when you stack your games in a particular way to be rung so that you'll get the cheapest price, and the cashier doesn't know better to rearrange them so that they'd ring the way corporate intends, it IS a training issue.

Of course, so is games not being labelled, being improperly labelled, and a myriad of other things that go on there.

TRU never sent out a notice to stores about this problem, thus most cashiers don't know and even if they did don't care. It's even very well known higher up. It's been like this ever since TRU got the new registers years ago. Last year, a DM brought up the issue during the buy 2 get 1 free game deal and basically was told it would be too much trouble for TRU to update the system.

TRUs system is definitely bad as people can even do an infinite games scam with gift receipts during the Buy 1 get 1 free or Buy 2 get 1 free game deals(which I won't post here since some people would probably do it, but it's not hard to think of).

Not sure what the gift receipt thing would be but I will tell you one thing that happened AGAINST me the other day involving a gift receipt. My Dad sent a bunch of clothes for my kids from TRU. Most of them didn't fit so we wanted to return them. These were bought in CA, so he paid some insane amount of sales tax that I should have gotten back when I returned the clothes. But cashiers in OR are pretty clueless about sales tax (there being none here) and the lame TRU system doesn't automatically handle it - needs to be done manually. She forgot and I didn't notice till I got home - out about $5 from that. Oh well, I more than made up for it in cheap games this week :D. The biggest disappointment there is that my wife wanted the gift card to use for other clothes - I couldn't use it on games :).

However, on the plus side, at the same time, I returned 2 Galleons I bought at a store that charged a bit more than all the others - $22 before green-tag. Then they let me repurchase those to get Spyro A Hero's Tale. Since the Galleons rang up at $9.99 at this store instead of $10.99, I actually for $2 BACK on my credit card AND the free game!

Well, that obviously points out the source of your training issue... an incompetant somewhere higher up, which manifests itself as something that is both a system and training problem.

Obviously, they don't want to incur the cost of the system upgrade, but they're too lazy or amibalant to fix the training issue that it spawns.

Tubtub, not telling people how to get in an infinite loop on such things is probably a very wise idea.

Haha, yes. I think it would be kinda fun, but too much work for me. Not that it wouldn't be worth it, but eh... I occasionally have better things to do (not always).

can confirm the so called "glitch" still works...(and i will be looking forward to the buy2 get 1 on the expensive games)

got
Katarmari - $10
Ghosthunter - $10
and Xmen legends for free

katarmari - 10
carmen sandiego (gamecube) - 10
robots (gamecube) for free

the selection was rather limited and i got most of the games i wanted earlier in the week...

Worked for me also.

Hitman Contracts GT $20 -> $10
Tron GT $20 -> $10
Shadow of Rome $20 -> $0

Interesting pick-ups, but there wasn't much GT stuff left were I was.
Anyone pick up some extra Nightmare of Druagas that'd be willing to trade for Galleons? They both fetch the same $ at GR.
I wish I had known that when I went earlier today.
