Unreal Tournament 3 - Gen. Discussion & Info

It sucks that it got delayed, but again this fall has such great games coming out that I am actually sort of happy since now Q1 and Q2 of 2008 are going to have really great games also.

I mean it'll run on my PC, but will it look and run smoothly? I doubt it. So that is main reason I wanted the PS3 version. Ah well. :)

So the PC date is set... Nov. 19th.

"Soon" is still the word on the PS3 version, anyone want wager if it gets pushed into next year or not?

I'm sure it will.

GamePlayer has a 6-page preview for the Xbox 360.
As our playtest draws to a close, it’s clear why Epic’s team is compelled to spend so much time in the office and no, it has nothing to do with the cornucopia of mod cons. This is a team with undeniable passion and talent for what it does, intent on ensuring that UTIII not only lives up to expectations, but exceeds them. Judging by our experience, Epic is well on its way to fulfilling this lofty goal. Halo, Resistance, and Half-Life had better watch out – there’s a new contender in town…

Looks like there might be some issues on supply since they are "rushing" this a bit. Mentions "limited quantities".

"While Midway Games announced that Unreal Tournament 3wouldn't be
seeing the light of day on the PlayStation 3 in 2007 - Epic's Mark Rein kept his ground all along saying that Epic was trying to squeeze the timed PS3 exclusive Unreal Tournament III out before the end of the year. Well, it looks like Rein will be true to his word as Midway and Epic today confirmed that the PlayStation 3 version of UT3 will ship on December 10th, and be available in "limited quantities the following day." Midway explained to Game Informer Online that some stores could receive product earlier than others, so keep a close eye on your favorite store."

Oh man... UT was always my favorite FPS even though they all make me motion sick. Might have to pick it up when I get a PS3. Thanks for the info!

I hope that means the game doesn't suffer as a result of the rushing.

I've never really played a UT game before, but from what I've seen the game looks pretty cool. Is this a possible day one purchase for a lot of you? I'm interested in the game but don't know whether to get this or COD 4.

The graphics are good and all, but the gameplay is still what makes this game special. As far as multiplayer FPSes go, this is easily the most polished, fastest, and overall most enjoyable one I've played. If you're antisocial, the bots are damn good and there's a variety of difficulty settings.

I haven't played too many online shooters, but how fast paced are the matches? Like omg crazy style?

I can't think of any FPS that's faster, and yeah, I'd say omg crazy style is a decent way of describing it. But keep in mind, it's far from being out of control. You run really, really fast, but it usually takes a reasonable number of shots to take people down, so it's not like people new to the series won't be able to handle it.

Sounds awsome. I've been playing Resistance online and when it gets going it really gets going. Lots of fun. Never really played the series before so I'm really looking forward to playing it.

from what I've played in the other iterations of this series, the maps are a bit more open than the ones found in Resistance. The combat is definitely fast paced, but you do have a second to catch your breath (if that makes sense). Some of the most fun I've ever had in an Online FPS has come from UT and UT '04.

Unreal 3 coming out next week took me by surprise. It should be interesting to see how online play will be. I'd have to get the console version, since my PC isn't even close to being able to handle U3 right now.
OMG. Day 1 for me! Is there a collectors for PS3?
I kinda doubt it, since it was "rushed" for the PS3.

I'm going to wait for reviews on this one. I really want it but if it does end up being "rushed", I'll pass on it.

I could always pick it up on PC, but I don't think my new computer will have a processor fast enough to run the game at it's best.

I don't think the game was rushed... it should be pretty polished since they're not supposed to be working on the 360 version. I'm going to give it go day one... this game needs to be a 9, 9.5, or 10.

Reading that article it doesn't sound like they rushed the development of the PS3 version, but the game just went gold and they wont have very many copies in stores on December 10th.

The thing scales pretty well as far as I know. You should maybe look into the demo just in case. Chances are that it'll look better than this version.
OMG. Day 1 for me! Is there a collectors for PS3?
Doesn't look like it since Gamestop doesn't have it listed. I sorta doubt they'd put out a CE though, because some of the major content that was included on the CE disc was stuff pertaining the the UT3 toolkit... which the PS3 version won't have. There's still the standard "making of" stuff, but most stuff on the PC's CE is irrelevant to PS3 users, so who knows.
almost here... glad it came near the end of my semester :D
Comes right in the middle of my exam period.

Going to go pre-order it today.

I might have used bad wording before, but when I put "rushed" I meant post development time. They are going from gold and having the game printed, to having the game in the store very quickly.

Thing is, instead of stocking up on supplies and making sure all the retailers have enough, they are putting out a lower supply to make sure they have stuff in the market early. So for a while, it might be tough to find a copy depending on where you live. Hopefully someone from Midway will address this issue and say just how rough it will be. I hate pre-ordering but if push comes to shove I might have to.

well they could have REALLY good manufacturing lol

I havent read much into ut3; but can pc and ps3 users share the same server?

Nah, that was the big turn off. Apparently they had a problem with all that.

Whats the story with user generated content? I remember hearing that sony is going to support it for UT3, but are ps3 owners going to be able to make modded maps, or will PC maps be ported over.

Right, no cross server play as of now. Maybe down the line but I wouldn't expect it.

All of the mods and such have to be done on the PC and ported over sadly.

I thought I read something about being able to make maps on the PS3?

Guess I'm wrong. May have been reading something about the PC version and got confused.
I thought I read something about being able to make maps on the PS3?

PC editor is all they have for now.

"What other game does that? You make something using the editor on the PC, slap it onto a memory stick, and bring it over to the PS3. We're looking at other transmission methods through the web, but right now you can physically put it on the PS3," he told us. So Sony has no say in what content you can and can't bring over to the PS3; anything that's available online could be brought directly to the PS3 version on a memory card, bypassing Sony's own online store.

about this limited crap, isn't this the same thing SquareEA said when Final Fantasy X was "rushed" from early 2002 unto limited amounts the week before Christmas 2001? There were plently of copies going around...

Still, I'm debating rather to get the PS3 version or wait for the Xbox 360 (more of my friends on LIVE) any thoughts?

Who knows what "limited" means to them. But, I'm not sure it will be to hard to find since the PS3 is still getting its legs under it.

We don't know to much about the xbox version. Word is it might not support mods like the PS3 version which could be a minus point if true. Also keyboard/mouse is supported on the PS3, no clue about the other.

Anyone know if it will support more then on player online from one ps3? Have looked online, but haven't been able to find anything.

Aside from that, it would be spiffy if it supported rumble as well :D

This has been floating around for a while, and I don't see it clearly answered anywhere making me think the answer is no. Wouldn't they mention this as a selling point?

Best quote I've found doesn't clear it up either sorry!

Four-player co-op and two-player split-screen in the single-player campaign

Oh and I THINK it supports Dualshock3, have to find a link... unless you trust me. :)

>>here you go.

Epic's "Home Plan".

Epic Games VP Mark Rein has revealed some of Epic's plans for PlayStation Home integration in Unreal Tournament 3 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC) in a recent interview with Gamasutra. Unreal Tournament 3 has been confirmed for a December launch for the PlayStation 3, while Home is being readied for a 2008 launch.

According to Rein, Epic already has concrete plans for Home integration. If everything goes according to plan, players will apparently be able to "get a party together in Home and then file into the game from an Unreal space."

Home frees Epic from having to build its own party system, and while Rein admits that it won't be as detailed as a real party system, it will still let players form up and play the game together. Here's more from Rein:

I think it's really smart that eventually if everybody does that, each company doesn't have to develop its own way to all meet up somewhere and all go into a game. I think that's a very smart way to do it, and I kind of wish Xbox 360 would do that, and I'm hoping that they will at some point.

Rein also threw in his own two cents about the PlayStation 3's integrated Blu-ray player:

I think there's nothing wrong with the Trojan Horse strategy of "let's get this device in the living room, and it can play music and DVDs and high-definition movies." The Xbox 360 does that too ... [T]here's nothing better for us as game developers than having a huge install base. Publishers will say, "Hey, there's ten or however many million of those. Let's spend a little bit extra to buy our disc and stick it in."

8 Page interview with Mark "The Unreal Man" Rein.

I'd thought more people would be interested in Mr. Unreal's interview. He gives Sony and the PS3 some high praises when it comes to their willingness to let their developers do what they want.

I'd be concerned if I only had a 360, I wonder what it would take for Microsoft to allow them to put mods on their system.

Not sure which will work out the best (low/high moderation) but I think if it works out as well as he thinks it can, the PS3 version will have the advangage.

Regardless- A week and a half left!
