Urban Dead - The Official Cheap Ass Survivor Thread

Faust: Geno's in charge of the PMs this time.

Re dothog's post: Scanning a brain rotted zombie has a % chance of failure that I do not remember. I also do not remember at what point in time the scan list "resets".
Ok well I started up as a Fireman and I'm in Penny Heights. Should I try and head for Darvall Heights with the rest of the CAS or get XP where I am?
My alt is in penny heights and is leveling up faster than my CAS created one.
I recommend staying in penny heights for a bit and level up.

Finally revived and 6xp away from free running. In suburb we are meeting in will attempt to obtain syrings/fak on morrow.

Ok, I got as close as I could to you guys and I got in a barricaded building. I add everyone to my contacts. What else should I do.

Ok I am in Spicer Hills now. I was wondering around whacking zombies. There were quite a few of thm in Dartside and they were almost all at full 50HP.
Is there a way to get more than 50AP? They seem to go so fast, I used up my entire day's turns in about 5 min last night attacking a zombie.
Nope, 50 AP is the cap. Attacking takes a majority of your AP, especially at early levels when you are using an Axe. There is also a 150 refresh limit on each IP address so refreshing the game constantly over the course of the day can screw you as well.

Got to the HQ and Bravo Brown is in there flagged as KOS for PKing.
IvanHood is the only member currently there.

Took out another PKer on my way down, Pan D'emic was in the warehouse when I logged on.

Be careful guys, there's a handful of Kill on Sight Pkers running amuck through these buildings. If you can, try to download UDTool and download the pker list from Rogue's Gallery. Also make sure to update the bounty if you kill one of the pkers on this list.
everyone should have a radio, let's pick a freq via irc or pm
The radios that most players are carrying around are only receivers. We'd need a permanent, powered base with a transmitter set to a specific frequency for that frequency to be of any use. Advice is to pick a channel that's used by the nearest mall or other resource building (should be a list in the iwki) and listen to it for potential news of incoming zombie hordes.

Looks like there's a PK/griefer holed up with me. I've got a few extra pistols I needed to empty so I'll try my luck if they're still around in 20 min.

Nailed 'em.

Marven mall looks like it is still in OK shape, but who knows for how long. I've been exploring the outlying buildings in the nearby burbs and there are a lot of level 1 Freerunners out there. The one I am looking at now joined just last week.

I think there are a lot of spies running around doing intel for the zeds.

Wow. Woke up to lots of posts here.

On Radios: If you use a radio (keeping in mind the difference between the two different types of radios), I prefer to keep it set to the frequency of the local mall. Also keep in mind that radios are anonymous, so a lot of bullshit comes out of them.

New Guys: Add yourselves to the Wiki. Be sure to link to your CAG account and your UD profile. Choose "Cheap Ass Survivors" as your group (it's in the "Settings" option).

On PKers: I'm considering taking down the list of PKers on our Wiki, since there's obviously a more comprehensive list available.

On AP limits: Having the limit much higher would make individuals too strong. Zombies get through barricades fast enough - letting them have 10 or 15 more cracks at it would be brutal.

fuck me. Ever since yesterday, I've been unable to use any UD-related extension - UDTool, UDBrain, etc. - without Firefox freezing up on me. Other things like Chatzilla are fine, but I am really missing those UD things.

Y'know, with so few suburbs left for humans, it's only natural for the concentration of PKers to be extremely high. Instead of spreading out over, say, 50 suburbs, most of them are now sitting in something like 15.
Man, definitely a little overwhelming getting into the game at first.
It is at first, but it does get easier. We really need to have a mini-FAQ in the OP to get people oriented.

Some of the extensions crash each other. My setup right now is the following:
Chatzilla (default settings)
Greasemonkey (default)
udtool dev 0.7.0 (safe mode - off, inventory combiner - off, everything else on)
UDToolbar dev 58b(enable pop up menus - off, everything under appearance off, enable fixed position map - off, everything else on)

Greasemonkey Scripts:
UDBrain
UDBrainMap
UrbanDead Item Organizer .4
Urban Dead AP Recovery Time Indicator
UDMap
UrbanDead Barricade Colorizer

They all seem to run fine together (no crashes/freezing). So maybe this could help lead you to the problem with firefox freezing/crashing.

I believe someone last night said that HotShotX was playing halo instead...

I also agree that we need a mini-mini-faq to get people into the game. It was really hard for me to get into this whole grid-ap-based mmorpg in the first place, especially since I never was into the genre before.

Well, it first started happening last night when all I had UD-related were Greasemonkey, UDBrain, and UDBrainMap. Any time I'd try to do anything that used those, FF would stop responding. It works just fine on IE.

Then I got UDTool today, and attempting to do anything with that - anything - also freezes FF.

He was, along with me, and a few other CAGs who play UD.

Well, I haven't gotten a reply from hotshot, so I'll post it here in the meantime. Just wondering if something like this is worth posting on the OP. I would really appreciate your opinions.

Are you a Firefox user? Want to make the most of Urban Dead? Tired of dying because of over-barricading? If you said yes to any of these, I highly suggest considering UDBrain, the all mighty tool that can greatly aid survivors in their battle against the zombie apocalypse (or help in our defeat, depending on how you look at it).

How to Install UDBrain (for Firefox users only):

Step 1: Install Greasemonkey (100kb) - This allows Firefox users to utilize the many Greasemonkey formated scripts. UDBrain and UDBrainMap are Greasemonkey scripts. Restart Firefox after installing Greasemonkey.

Step 2: Install UDBrain (16kb) - This script provides useful information on your Urban Dead mini map (Barricade levels of adjacent buildings and how old data is).

Step 3: Install Ben2's UDBrainMap (16kb) - This GM script goes hand in hand with UDBrain. It takes the information of UDBrain and applies it to a fully functional map of the entire city of Malton. Providing not just barricade levels, but also the number of zombies in each block (both inside and outside of buildings).

(UDtoolbar/UDGraphicalEnhancement is not included with these scripts):

Note:
These extensions/scripts are all optional. But since UDBrain updates whenever a UDBrain user moves over a block, the more users, the more accurate the information. Knowledge is half the battle... G.I.Joe~!

Cool, well, I'll try to work on a lil' sumthin' sumthin' for UDTool and Rogue's Gallery. Too bad HotShotX is too busy playing with his "Master Chief". ;P

They just did the NecroTechs yesterday, didn't they? I wouldn't think there would be any hostiles at Marven aside from Death Cultists for a few hours yet.

Finding and Preventing PKers with UDTool/Rogue's Gallery (Firefox users only)

UDTool is a helpful firefox extension that further enhances the Urban Dead experience. Its most noteable feature is that it points out PKers (Player Killers) via downloaded PKer list.

How to use this Feature:

Step 1: Install UDTool - *warning, the site has massive pop ups/advertisements as of late* You can download either version (0.6.6a or 0.7.0). From my experience, 0.7.0 is stable enough that it rarely crashes. If you're using Firefox 2.0.0+ (especially with other extensions/Greasemonkey scripts) I would suggest 0.7.0 since it provides more support for it. Restart Firefox once you install this extension.

Step 2: Download PKer List - Go to Rogue's Gallery and click on UDTool list. Save this text file anywhere you want (remember where you saved this file). Rogue's Gallery is a constantly updating database of PKers, providing reports of PKs, bounties, locations, etc. It is a very useful source of information.

Step 3: Load PKer List into UDTool - Start Firefox if you haven't already. Go to tools > UDTool > Change/Load List and click "open existing" on the window pop up. Open the UDTool list you downloaded earlier.

Viola! PKers names will now be highlighted in Red in Urban Dead. On mouseover it'll display their bounty. The higher the number, the more dangerous. As for the ones with KOS (Kill on Sight) status, do just that. It even highlights Past PKers (no bounty) in Pink.

Remember to keep this list updated as often as possible. Just repeat steps 2 and 3 to do so.

I hope UDTool will empower you to defend yourselves and carry out justice. Go get 'em Tiger.

Note: If you're running other extensions/scripts, it is helpful to go into UDTool's option menu (via extensions window) and uncheck Safe Mode and Inventory Combiner. A couple other extensions/scripts have conflicts with these, especially Inventory Combiner.

1: Heh. Viola.

2: This is weird. Out of curiousity, I opened up UDTool a while ago. It froze, and I disconnected and ate supper. When I came back, it worked just fine. Guess the freezing is temporary. Dunno how long it takes to subside, though...

'Sup bitches? I spent most of my Zack AP catching up, but got revived close to the current target.

So I'm in, breathing and I don't think I'm infected...
Some red rum asshole was in the mall pking.

Edit: Healed you plume.
Thanks!

I'm trying to save up some AP so I can search for some items...
