Valkyria Chronicles - Gen. Discussion & Info

Yeah it never really loads for me on my 40gb with it installed. hm.

Also as for the prizes, in here would be pretty sick :O.

Can't wait to jump into this tonight. Chapter 10 will be mine :D

Even with the install, there are noticeable load times if you load a save gamed while you are in the middle of a mission. I had to double check that I did actually install the game as the load times just seemed out there.

I just got this game and it's art style is amazing, game mechanics is enjoyable and its story is interesting. I'm glad I picked up this game.

For some reason I bet VC is going to be on sale for 10% off. Maybe it's just me. Anyways, got the game during the B2G1 sale and its really fun. Some parts I thought I got a D, but ended up with a B instead. Quite happy with that.

Have a question here. Once the battle is done, is there anyway to go back to it so I can get a better rank or do I have to re-load the game again?

Agreed. This is the only time I noticed a long load time within the game. Booting takes a bit of time as well. Otherwise, things zipped along without a hitch.

In other news, I beat the game this morning. I haven't played many games that can so easily get me emotionally vested in the characters. I love how each member of Squad 7 brings their own personality to the squad. VC is an excellent game that desperately needs a sequel.
This will be a must own come that sale!!!!
This game is already a must-own. I happily paid full price, and given the fun I had with it I probably would have paid twice that.
Hello to all the Valkyria fans here, I'm the community lead on Valkyria Chronicles over at SEGA and someone from the CAG boards commented on the SEGA Blog about a lot of Valkyria love over here. I wanted to say hey, and let you guys know that I'm going to see about getting some Valkyria merch secured to give away to your community, especially with our batch of DLC coming up soon.
I don't know how direct a line the community lead has, but if it's in your power make sure Sega knows how incredible this game is. I don't think there's anyone I haven't recommended it to, and it is absolutely astounding that it doesn't have higher sales given the quality of the game.

Hmm, strange, seems im the only one with load times that are aggresive :( hmm, i know i installed though.

It loads ALOT on first boot, and when going to headquarters from bookmode. (and within headquarters, going to seperate areas even loads a good 12-15 seconds, going... i dunno R&D, or Barracks, for example).

Im using a larger Harddrive, but its the same RPMs, maybe i need a 7xxx RPM one, instead of a 5000

You could try deleting the install and then reinstalling just in case there is a problem there.

I'm running on the standard 60GB hard drive that it came with (and still have 10GB left!)

Something may be wrong? I have a 60GB and the factory harddrive and I didn't even install the game and worst load times were loading a battle save, everything else took max 10 seconds. Battle save took 30-40 seconds.

I believe in the first go around, you'd have to reload from a saved file. I'm on chap 16 now so I'm not sure exactly how it works once you get through it the first time.

I don't know if there should be a Valkyria Chronicles sequel. I haven't beaten the game yet but I can't imagine that the story not getting wrapped up. I do hope that they use the engine/graphical style in more games though.

Spoiler tagged just in case.

They could do a couple of things. Prequel Varrot/Largo storyline in EW1 war, potential EW3 following Welkin/Alicia child decades later, Zaka and the Darcen storyline

Also as you suggested, they could just do something else with the engine/graphical engines.

I was surprised too, I fell in love with the game when I first played it - SEGA does understand how awesome the game is, but unfortunately oftentimes it's all about how well the game does on the market. Valkyria did alright, but all of us know that a game like this has the potential to do so much better.

With DLC coming up, it's really the perfect time for all of us (both SEGA and fans of the game) to promote it and spread the word - I really think word of mouth is one of the biggest factors in how well a game does, and if sales of the game rise or even just continue at a steady pace, it does help total numbers, which I imagine will be (part of) deciding what happens with Valkyria in the western market. To be quite honest, the hardcore fans in this case could very well influence the future of Valkyria, and it's all as simple as telling your friends. You'll also see SEGA working to drive more attention for the game too, with announcements about DLC and our community efforts to reach out to our dedicated fans.

Major props and thanks to those of you who are already hardcore evangelists for the game - we'd like to give you all something as a bit of thank you. More news on what goodies I've got to give out coming soon. :)

Either way, the game is pretty amazing, and it was my first SRPG ever. I think that's what makes it so addicting. Easy to play, hard to master. It turned me onto SRPG's, something I had swore off ages ago, and it's all because of this wonderful game. It's also one of the reasons I didn't want to rush to finish the game; because I liked the characters and the story and didn't want it to end.

Hopefully we'll get a trophy patch (pretty please? ;) ) in the future, that way we'll be able to replay it many of times :D. It's tough though, because Valkyria seems like a very hard game to market towards a US audience. It's hard to think what SEGA could do in addition to the marketing they've already done because they've done a good job for the game. While I can't say SEGA's marketing influenced me into the game (that would be the honor of GiantBomb's Quick Look of the game), I sure do appreciate the marketing they've done for the game so far.

But Valkyria Chronicles is on the GameDay sale for Gamestop next week, so i'm sure you guys are SEGA are excited for the numbers that's going to bring in.

Well heck, if we really could help I assure you the people at cag are pitching in. I've convinced most of my PS3-owning friends to buy it,and with the Gamestop sale coming up hopefully the rest will follow.

LOL. I doubt it's going to bring in millions and millions. Still, at least there is finally a sale. I gotta pick it up now.

Whether its a direct sequel/prequel or spiritual sequel, I'll be happy. I'm not picky as long as it maintains the quality that is VC.

I don't think a Valkyria Chronicles sequel should be made. I could definitely say where to place it, but I think that without the characters in this game, it will be missing something.

Four days without a bump? All hail KingBroly, the thread killer!

Seriously though, for all you VC virgins that are too stingy to buy the game, the Gamestop sale has the game supposedly at $30. I'm going to buy a second copy for when I inevitably wear out the first.

I have that power you know. It's a mystic power that are far beyond your understanding.

Just remember guys that the Anime starts tomorrow...or today (Japan and its' crazy time zone).

Believe you me, it wouldn't be the only thing beyond my understanding. I'm excited to see the anime, though the character art seems just a bit off to me.
$30 is an insane price for this game. For most, that's not even $1 per hour of gameplay!
Word -- and it's definitely money spent on a quality experience.

Just posted my second blog of why people should buy Valkyria Chronicles at Gamestop's Game Days. Please post a comment, encouraging other CAG'ers to buy this game!

BTW -- the first episode of the "Valkyria Chronicles" anime was just released, so be sure to check out initial impressions at Random Curiosity. I can't wait!!! ~~**SQUEEE**~~

Here's the opening theme for those interested. Everyone's eyes look different to me than the game, except for Maria. Or perhaps it's the lack of Sega's Canvass Engine.

Haha. Ecofreak. I posted the promo video last week when it was subtitled and no one freaked out like I did. Glad to see someone else is just as excited as I am.

If you own a Playstation 3, and don't own this game, it's similar to taking a bowling ball to the crotch.

Just beat it. I was satisfied with the ending and rather impressed with the cutscenes in general. Now to watch the anime :D

This convinced me even though I promised myself to by no more games this year  I hope it's as good as you guys say it is.

I'm pretty pleased with the deal I got. Since I'm dead broke, I decided to trade in COD5 (yes, blasphemy. I traded a game with no trade in bonus but an edge), which I got for $40 during the Target deal and absolutely hated. That was $25.57 credit. I used the game informer coupon, which reduced the game to $27. I walked out with Valkyria Chronicles for $1.52 :D

I really want this game but have too many games that I haven't opened yet and am still playing. I'll wait till its cheaper and I have time to play it.

If you know the right strategy, it's not that bad. If you know the best strategy, it's easy, although somewhat nerve-racking.
Anything I need to know before playing this?
Flying pigs do exist! (Seriously, there's a pig w/ wings in this game)

Once you accept that, the game is cake. ;)

"The Edelweiss...SWIMS JUST FINE!"
Eh, the dialogue is really corny and of the cookie-cutter type variety, but I'm really loving the game so far.

Great that you guys are enjoying the game!

Please post a comment on the blog posting dedicated to convincing people to pick up this game if you have a moment -- shouldn't take more than a few seconds! We've already managed to convince at least 3 people who wouldn't have considered it had it not been for our vocal support of this game so please lend your voice to the cause. ;)

It's nice to see the number of people that are picking this up. A good percentage of people are buying it - a few are even getting multiples for friends/significant others.

Maybe now we can convince Sega to release the "I want you for Gallian Militia" poster. :D

True that -- it is heartening to see such high interest. :)

I'm not sure who made the poster show in the blog entry, but it would definitely be cool to release it for the fans. :whistle2:D
