Any CAGers around here? Really disappointed as the scene pales in comparison to Boston's video gaming scene. Any suggestions or local mom and pop shops? The Maryland-Virginia-DC area seems to be pretty weak.
I figured it'd be a good time to grab a Wii. I saw that they're in the circulars at best buy this week, but I'm wondering - anyone have any idea what time you need to get to the stores these days? Do I still need to get out of be at like 6, or should I be okay if I wander down around 9? I'm planning on dropping in on the BestBuy at Bailey's Crossroads, although I might head down to Springfield, since they're bigger - maybe I'll have a better chance down there.

Any suggestions or tips? It's so frustrating this area is so devoid of Wii's. Stupid Nintendo.
When I picked up one for my sister last month, I got to the Baileys Crossroads BBY somewhere between 8 and 8:30, and I was eighth in line. I swung by the Tysons BBY just before and the line there was around 15-20. Baileys had 18 or so in stock and the last two weren't claimed until about 45 minutes before the store opened. As you know, there were way more people than Wiis by opening.

About an hour before opening, an employee hands out tickets that allow you to leave and come back as long as you checkout in the first 1/2 hour after the store opens. Until someone came with the tickets, all the employees I saw were clueless.

Baileys was a good place to sit in line as it was in the shade. (The Tysons line was directly in the sun.) Also, the CC across the way had a few unadvertised Wiis that Sunday. (CC opens earlier than BBY on Sundays, and a lucky father picked up his son who was in line at BB). Good luck, INCyr!

lurk: I'm up for another meetup/tradeoff. The last one was fun, but I can only make it to Maryland if it's during the weekend.

cleaver: I don't have a PS3. It's on the agenda, but I just bought a house.

Perhaps after I finish remodeling and get moved in, a CAG BBQ / meetup is in order (if local CAGs are amenable to Arlington)? But not 'til Labor day at the earliest.

BBQ would be cool. We could have more time working out deals and such.

I was able to have the Springfield CC 'special order' a couple of the 1600pt cards for me. As for Wiis, I've seen them in the Springfield Target and the Hybla Valley Target. But if you look for them at those places, check during the middle of the week (today might be good) preferably in the middle of the day.

That's a really generous offer. I would be willing to travel to Arlington if it were on a weekened. And I'd be game for helping out with it too (bringing food, beer, sodas, games, etc). PM me if you want any help like that.

Bounds and bounds of Wiis at the Germantown BB. I asked how many they had when I went in to pick up another HDTV set, and they said that they had the 6 that were in the cage and then about 15 in the garage area. Geez.

So are we thinking of doing another meet-up in preparation of the BBQ? I'd be down with that. Maybe we could commit to things to help out for the BBQ then.

I am down with that.

A CAG BBQ and meet-up to prepare sounds good, I'd be happy to help out. I also have to see what I've got to trade, mostly last gen/portable games (PS2, Xbox, GC, PSP, DS).

Just got back from the BB in Rockville and they had a bunch of Wii's for anyone interested. I must be the only one without a Wii.

So do we have a weekend in mind pre-BBQ? Are we thinking D&B's once again, or do we want to check out that place on Rockville Pike that we can actually game at...or something else entirely.
I meant the deal where they send you 5 Blu Rays, you pick 1 from catagory A, 1 from category B, etc. There isn't one on the list that I would actually buy otherwise.

It looks like there will be a Microcenter where the CompUSA was on 355.
That makes me so happy Microcenter ftw

I vote for the LAN place over D&B, but either is fine. I should be available on the 26th if that works for anyone else. Other than that, my weekends are pretty full into September.

I have a fantasy football live draft on August 25 & 26. My band is having our CD release at Iota in Arlington, VA if anyone is interested. It is August 17, 2007.

I'm pretty sure I'd be available the weekend after labor day (8th & 9th). Maybe throw out 2 or 3 dates and take a vote from everyone interested?

Oops, Labor Day weekend won't work for me -- got a wedding to attend. The following Satudays work for me 9/8, 9/15, 9/22.

Is there a quorum for a D&B or "LAN place" meetup before then?

jmiller80, are you mentioning the weekends that you are free...or for the cook-out at your place? Again, I think that we all would understand if decide to back out of that, but by the same token, we all would be excited about that possibility. Obviously, it wouldn't be an entirely open, open invitation and we could work to get it to be a manageable turnout of reasonable characters, etc.etc. I think that meeting up before hand would be a good idea for that reason, also we could also meet to commit to help out for the cook-out.

I don't know my schedule off-hand, as my wife and secretary, two different people, take care of that relatively unbeknownst to me. But I am really flexible. I'm down with either place. D&B would be good as alcohol is served there as well as food. The LAN place would be cool as we can actually game on consoles as well as computers. I'll find a link for that lan place so you all can check it out. And though there is no food there, they are cool to ordering food to the place and pigging out that way. But there would be "cover" charge, of course to game.

Continue posting your thoughts and days, etc.

Those are all potential BBQ / cookout days at my place. I wasn't sure of the exact date when I first posted the BBQ idea because there was still a fair amount of pre-move-in housework (and a few weddings I hadn't added to my schedule). As soon as we pick a date, then I can start getting a headcount.

As for the pre-BBQ meetup, I vote for D&B (and hope I can make it).

Anyone in the D.C. area been able to confirm the Bioshock release date being broken by TRU? I'm not in the mood to drive all over town unless I can actually buy a copy.

I'm free pretty much any weekend for the meetup and BBQ, don't really have a preference on D&B or the X30 place, either is fine with me.

Gaithersburg TRU was a no go. I'd love to get my hands on this and Madden, both at a discount. Oh well.

I played the Bioshock demo last night and good grief it was sweet. I believe this will be a game I will pay full price for, but hopefully someone will have a bit of a discount on it.

I learned today that the Rockville TRU sold its entire shipment of Bio-shocks yesterday with the Madden deal. Rats. Too bad that I missed that. Got to wait a week or longer now.

I pre-ordered the LE at GameStop the other day. Going to pick it up after work on Tuesday and then start playing the minute I get home.
I pre-ordered the LE at GameStop the other day.
I did the same after one demo playthrough. My 360 started the red-ring dance though . . .

You can add me to the list of bbq attendees. I live in N Arlington, so it would be convenient for me to come by, bring stuff, and help set up. I went out of town this past weekend, so my upcoming weekends should be open for awhile.

When you are refering to D&B, is that a "Dave & Busters"? Isn't there is one on Rockville Pike? I've never been to a D&B before, and I don't go to Rockville Pike very much since Y&T records died, but I'm pretty sure thats gotta be the place at White Flint you're referring to. Am I right?

I might be up for something. I'm out near Dulles Airport, but I'm willing to drive to Rockville for D&B or something. I guess I should start paying more attention to this thread. :)

CAG in DC. Question...does anyone know in which Best Buy the $10 coupon off of FOX TV DVDs work? I'm near 3 of them: Pentagon City, Wheaton, and the one on Wisconsin Avenue. Just curious to see if anyone has tried that coupon in any of those locations. I ask this because I've read that some stores don't recognize the coupon.

I can't comment on the DVD coupon, but I've used the GamePro $5 off coupons at the store on Wisconsin Avenue with no problems.

Worked in Rockville on a few seasons of Buffy.
Does anyone know if there are any deals to be had at FYEs, supposedly clearancing out their video games?
No, but I might check the store at Tyson's Corner tomorrow if I pass by after my interview and let you guys know what I find out.

Checked the Tyson's FYE today, didn't look like they were clearancing or discounting any of the video games. No signs or anything about it and it looked like they were still taking pre-orders for games.

I was in the BestBuy at the Inner Harbor tonight and while browsing the PS3 section a worker made some room and put out Tiger Woods 2008.

I waited around a little longer to see if he would do the same for the Wii, but he didn't come back.

Also, they had about 10 Wiis out on a table, if anyone is still looking in the area. :)

Hey, I know this is pretty late to even mention this, but if anyone is near C-Mart in Joppa, MD (the first thing you get to in harford county if you're traveling on Pulaski Highway eastbound) they bought the inventory of some Gamestop that had a fire. Everything is 50% off Gamestop's marked prices (except their copies of Madden 08, which are 25% off) The sale started on thursday morning, so most everything great is gone. I didn't even find out about it until thursday night, and by friday midday I found very little current gen stuff. They did however have a very large selection of used xbox and PS2 games, along with a ton of used xbox and gamecube systems. Here's the link to their site so you can drool over what we all missed:

http://www.cmartdiscount.com/items/detail.aspx?id=11229&store=BA

Also keep in mind that basically all games have water damage. This means pretty much all case inserts are wrinkled and/or moldy, and a lot of games are missing manuals, even if marked as new. My only find to brag about is a complete and undamaged copy of Puzzle Quest DS for $15.

Don't feel too bad, there's really nothing exciting left. The guy there told me they had people lined up at 7am last thursday. This isn't the first time they bought the remains of a Gamestop that had a fire. About this time last year they had the same deal, but not really any consoles. More new and sealed games though. Here's the CAG link to the story from last time:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101245

I guess Gamestops are prone to fires or something?

If Circuit City runs out of Metroid Prime 3 today, they'll give out a $20 gift card. I know we're supposed to boycott Circuit City for speedy, but it's more like stealing than shopping.

I was at the Gaithersburg CC today around 2:30 and they had about 15 copies of Metroid Prime 3.

I kinda doubt they will sell out today.
If Circuit City runs out of Metroid Prime 3 today, they'll give out a $20 gift card.
Have you, or anyone you know locally, gotten a gift card when they run out of a game on release day?

I recall some forum posts saying that they only give the card out if they fail to put any copies of the game on sale by a certain day and time. If the game sells out, no card for you -- it WAS on sale. Sounded like a worthless policy to me, if true, but CC has done and continues to do dumber things.

I have never been able to get the $20 gift card from C.C. They play ignorant to the promo.

Anyhow, if any local person is looking for a brand new Wii, I have one that I'll unload at cost. PM me in the next few days or it is going back.

anyone know any good deals in arlington,va? I am looking for wii games and ps3 games. and anyone know where i can sell my games for at a resonable price?
