We won't get a proper sequel until after RPG Thread VIII-2!
There were two things I didn't like about it:

-Can't skip text during the party chat scenes
-The ending. God. Soooo bad.
Are you kidding me? Vesperia had the best end boss of any JRPG, and a pretty good ending too!
I very much appreciated fighting a final boss who had a complete lack of evil. You agree to disagree, and to fight without hatred, and when it's over he just walks away. Quite refreshing.

I don't remember the ending to Vesperia, in fact I don't remember the story in general. It was quite forgettable. Gameplay is what made Vesperia awesome.

To me it came across as environmentalist tripe.

Gameplay and characters were great in ToV.

Meh. After he walks away, there's no conclusion to anything you've been fighting for. It's like "Nice fight. Peace out. Oh yeah let's destroy Adephagos too. *roll credits*"

Oh I was talking about importing it, but are they really going to give it a western release?

edit: ok $100 to import, no thank you.

the last story hit #1 on the sales charts in japan.

hopefully that'll convince them to localize it here.

stupid wii and its region lock. =(

Well even if I could play it on a US Wii, the game is in Japanese.

But honestly The Last Story is the game I want to be localized more than any other game. Lost Odyssey was probably my favorite RPG ever, so I really want to play Mistwalker's next game.
Valkyria II is still sweeeeet~!!!

I gotta Sniper, a Mortar, and a Fencer, and they go around killing everyone!!!
So you're saying that units other than the Scouts are useful? Playing through the first one now and while it is great, it can very much be beaten by Scouts alone.

Namco made a statement that they probably won't be localizing any more Tales of games (there was a link to it in the last thread I believe) so seeing them bring a port of a game that's over a year old stateside is quite doubtful.

I'm playing VC2 now, and scouts can't kill much of anything.

I too am praying for a Last Story localization. Lost Odyssey is easily my favorite current-gen RPG, and easily in my top 10 of all time.

Also, anyone else playing Two Worlds 2? I know Rod tried it and didn't really care for it, but I'm absolutely loving it so far. Can't even put my finger on what exactly, but there's just something about it that demands I keep playing.

yay for me studying japanese!
boo for the wii!
I'm still waiting for 7th Dragon
I just saw this game last week at a local Book-Off. I think it was $49 used. I picked it up to look at, but didn't buy it. Looked like my kind of game though.

Just like the Last Ranker the poor sales in Japan means we will never see it in English. Hopefully we can still get Criminal Girls.

I wish they would localize 7th Dragon as well, but I doubt it is ever coming at this point. I got it when I took a trip to Japan a couple years ago and it seems really awesome, kind of like a different take on Etrian Odyssey; unfortunately I don't understand enough Japanese to really play it though.

Finished Super Robot Wars J finally. The story was pretty terrible most of the time, but it was an SRPG with giant robots, so I'm fine with that. I suppose that just goes to show that I'm not really missing anything when I play one in Japanese.

Just picked up my white ps2 slim, which RPG(ish) ps2 game should I start first?

Dark Cloud 2
Odin Sphere
Kingdom Hearts 2
Shadow Of The Colossus
Rogue Galaxy

Rogue Galaxy is my favorite on that list, although a lot of people can't stand it.
Dark Cloud 2 is fun and looks great.
Odin Sphere looks great but isn't very fun.

I've got a healthy regimen right now; I haven't been this into games in a while. I just beat FF5 and started Persona 4 (which is great). I'm also working on completing Valkyria Chronicles and peppering in a little Rune Factory Frontier now and then. Not to mention the new Castlevania and DKC3 on the side.

Last Story was a hit and a miss, don't think it needs to be localized right away. It would be down right tragic if Xenoblade wasn't brought to the states, though somewhat understandable -- fill a game that full of text and you're going to end up with a translation/debug nightmare.
Well Hyperdimension Neptunia was delayed. I call Gamestop to check on my copy and they tell me it won't be out until next week.
The release date for it is (and has been) February 14.

Ys 1 &2
Killzone 3
Earth Defense Force 2

I remember it was the same way with DQV and Street Fighter IV exactly 2 years ago

I wish they would have spread some of these out from Oct.-Jan.

I had written down Feb 8th (and google shows a lot of places were saying Feb 8th). So if it was pushed back after that i never saw it.

Actually, I meant to say 15th, but close enough. =P The previous ones weren't confirmed, I don't think. When the NIS page for it launched, it said the 15th. Had the 14th on my mind because it's my Valentine's present =P

RPGwise, would you say the PS3 or Xbox 360 has the better selection?

Also I forgot how much of a pain the mudo skills are in the beginning of Persona 3 FES without Yomotsu Shikome.

If you like NIS games, PS3 is better. Otherwise, 360 only has a couple games (Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia)

Going forward Ps3 will be better since it established itself in Japan. However games like Lost Odyseey and Blue Dragon will be Xbox 360 exclusive

I agree with these two. 360 right now, but PS3 has more potential. Also remember PSN has a ton of great PS1 games for download like the Arc series, Grandia and FF games.

PS3 should have Tales of Graces (not on 360), Disgaea 4 and some more in the future. IMO with the ports of Eternal Sonata and Star Ocean plus Valkyria, there's plenty of RPGs on PS3. Since getting my PS3 I really hate going back to the 360's controller.
I think you're reading way too much into it...
While this is probably true, I can kinda see it. I thought it was weird that there wasn't really any sort of image just a pink background. Plus, in its own way, the game does deal with romance and fits the holiday.

Tactics Ogre will be here tomorrow for me, but I still have P3P to play through -- two epically long games. Probably won't buy another RPG until winter.

Yeah you'll be busy for awhile. My Tactics Ogre got delivered by UPS about 20 minutes ago.
