We won't get a proper sequel until after RPG Thread VIII-2!

we'll see what happens when i start playing through VC3. but i know that

if i ever see a girl with big tits in it, she'll be first on my list of "probably will die."

WTH? Now I already own both but Hypedimension for $79.99 and Radiant Historia for almost $50 on Amazon. Talk about price gouging, those sellers should go into the gas business.

PSP for me, you could argue wither way going by stand alone games, but in terms of RPG remakes PSP is amazing.

FFXIII:Type 0 looks like the godsend of handheld RPGs as well.

I hate it when JRPGs make the final boss 20x harder than anything else in the game. I just got to Chaos in Final Fantasy 1 PSP last night, and after sailing through the game barely even taking any damage, I cannot beat him. I had to put down Dragon Quest IV on DS for the exact same reason.

Yeh he shocked the crap out of me. I was level 45 or so and still had to put a good fight up to beat him.

DQIV I had same problem but I'm underleveled (Level 34).

On a high note my copy of Ar Tonelico(PS3) came in at Gamestop, going to get it after work.

It's been too long since I've played FF1. I did remember he was pretty hard.

DQIV, the boss isn't bad if you're around lvl 36 and use Hero, Ragnar, Alena, and Kiryl and sub them out.

I have Ar Tonelico 3 coming from prime, but won't get to it until I beat Radiant Historia, which I'm going at a snail's pace on at the moment because I'm not very into it. I'll probably play LoH:TitS before AT3.

Like all other NIS games, Ar Tonelico had Day 1 DLC. It's $1.99 for each for 5 new episodes (episode 1 is free).

On March 22nd it will be bundled to $5.99 to wait for that.

Lol at the abbreviation.

Any impressions on Ar Tonelinco? Is it something I can play with my wife in the room without feeling like a complete hentai? Regardless I'll probably check it out after I beat Dragon Age II.

Probably not it is rated M and we know it isn't for blood and gore .

I plan to play the second one (since the Third has characters from the first and second per the art book) then get into the third.

I've been slow to get into the second as I know it has a huge glitch near the end if you can't kill some boss in like 3 rounds. (don't know details beyond that)

Bandai Namco revealed new info on the new protagonist in Tales of Xillia, she is called Elise Lotus, a 12 years old blonde girl who is extremely shy to communicate with people, instead she uses her talking doll Tipo to communicate with other people

Something tells me I'm not going to like this character.

White Knight chronicles is extremely boring. I'm only maybe 3 hours into it but I think I'll start Dragon Age (the first one) this weekend instead.

yeah most annoying thing by far in JRPGs for me

and oh gee, she happens to be a shy little girl too. man. so original. *rolls eyes*

There wasn't a 12 year old girl in FFXIII...

Wait.

I just started playing Ar Tonelico Qoga today. I'm already falling in love with the game despite only playing for 1 1/2 hours. Pretty much everything I love about the first Ar Tonelcio (have the 2nd but never played it) returns in a way, such as getting to know my reyvateil better before going to bed. I wasn't sure how I'd like the departure from turn-based battling, but the battles play much more fun IMO. I'll admit the soundtrack isn't all that great this time, but still good. The game seems easy so far (played on easy and normal difficulties), but that's fine.

Oh yes, I got the calendar with the game and currently using in my den.

I was wanting some RPG to play that would hook me on a console (beat the majority that interested me already), so this seems to be exactly what I've wanted.

It felt like a classic JRPG to me. While I'll admit its graphics were nothing fancy (and dungeons were not the most exciting), its characters were filled with personality, some towns were fun, soundtrack was good, and I overall found it an enjoyable experience. Transforming in battle to the Knight made it more fun. WKC was easily the most underrated HD game release last year IMO.

Well, it only displays in 720 so it's not quite what I would call HD.
Interesting characters? There's a princess, a guy who rescues her and a mysterious stranger. And your character's avatar who can be seen in the backgrounds of cutscenes. Boy am I entranced.

What I mean by characters is not the avatar you create (I didn't even use mine in my party most of the time). Your avatar is typically the character who just "follows" you around. Leonard is the main character, who I do find a bit interesting, especially with his will to save Cisna. When it comes to characters, I'm mostly talking about the Eldore and Caesar especially (who comes into the party later). I mean, the story is not the most original, but that's not what I care about in JRPGs. I just care if the story is interesting. Only thing is the game ends in a cliff hanger (I beat it in 24 hours). Absolutely excited for its sequel (announced for Europe this May).

But I understand WKC is not for everyone. ;) It's a game I was quite excited about, but ended up liking it more than I thought (I didn't play online though).

I was very excited for WKC, then it bored the hell out of me. Biggest disappointment since MGS4, IMO. Bland story, terrible combat. Maybe better if you play it online.

And it could be some other game I'm remembering, but I'm pretty sure it's WKC: That game was way too easy. I marched through the whole thing without a character ever getting KOed, and I sure didn't grind.

I didn't think so. Some friends of mine also picked the game up, so i was playing with a group of 3 or more online constantly. Online was EXP for your avatar, gold, and components for weapons and the like. It was a nice addition to the game, but it didn't really add an extra dimension to the game or give it more longevity for me.

Also, the ending was the first game where I legitimately went "FUUUU".

I bought Pokemon White today, after holding out for so long. Yeah, I guess I'm a Pokemon addict now :whistle2:|
give me my shakespeare jrpg.
Do you have any plays in mind? Or would it be something like Eternal Sonata (but with a better ending, one would hope)?

Going to start Dragon Age this weekend so I can cotinue being one sequel behind the rest of the world. Am also playing Penny Arcade RSAOPOD or whatever it's subtitle is.

How are thoes NIS games for :ps3: Trinity Universe, Cross Edge, what's that other one? Lost empire or something. Are they good like Phantom Brave/Disgea or crap like La Pucelle and Makai Kingdom

I finished Magna Carta 2 this morning. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the game. I really enjoyed it. I guess that I will slowly work on Spectral Force 3 again and start on something else. I may finish up a random backlog game before jumping into my next backlog RPG.

I'll eventually play through MC2 again though since I would like to get some of the achievements that I missed out on. I should have got 1 more level with Argo to finish up one of his skill trees. I finished 1 skill tree with everyone else. I guess on the next play through, I can just not spend his points until I have enough for a complete skill tree and save before I spend them. So I can get both achievements.

Playing Pokemon Black (just got it yesterday) and I have 3D Dot Heroes coming on Monday. Glad I don't have any projects or tests coming up.

I was glad the game game was easy, but I'm also a big MGS fan. However, I am a big JRPG fan who tends to like most JRPGs (not really into western RPGs though). If there's an RPG I'd consider to be disappointing, it would be Infinite Undiscovery Cross Edge, and The Last Remnant.

I died twice in battle in WKC, but that was because I made a mistake not healing and going after harder enemies in an area. But personally, I liked the story because I tend to prefer storylines in RPGs that have a bit of a younger cast.

I'm still playing Ar Tonelico Qoga right now. I'm really addicted to the game and love every bit of it so far.

I liked him too. He was good at displaying his female adolescence.

I beat those around two months ago and I already feel like playing them again. The dialog in those games was great.

After I beat the first chapter of DQIV last night, I started on DAII and before I knew it I had done a six hour session. That game is fun as hell.

@TMK: Sorry buddy, glad you liked Hope, but personally couldn't stand him or on again off again accent Vanille. Not a bad game, but they were almost as bad as the kid magi in Lost Odyssey (also known as Palom and Parom fron FFIV).

It's late and I'm barely coherent, but I hate such character archetypes, I really do.

Also, Pokemon Black is fan- fucking - tastic. Although I still think it's bullshit you can't tell a pokemon's type until you catch it. I'm constantly "the fuck, whatever, it's super effective... against something" Once I catch a pokemon, I'm often all "wtf, that was it's type?"

Well, you gotta catch 'em all anyway, right? ;)

Personally, I don't care if I can't tell a Pokemon's type until after it's mine. If I don't have it in my collection, I want that fucker.
on again off again accent Vanille
Ha. Not saying it's the greatest performance ever or anything, but as for the accent, the actress who played Vanille actually is Australian. So... the accent's probably okay.

I actually liked Hope too. The "Operation Nora" thing was cheesy but he grew on me toward the end.

Pokemon Black is so freaking addictive, moreso than some of the other games in the series. I think I put in 3 hours before realizing I had played that long. I only noticed because my DS battery almost died.

Playing Ar Tonelico 3 and enjoying it so far. Battle system is pretty simple so far. Quit Radiant Historia. Played like 10 hours of it and just couldn't get into it. Got it up on Feebay.

I never understood how an accent of a character from another world can be off? It can only be off if that character is supposed to be from Australia. But she's not. So it's not off.

whooo~!!! I beat Radiant Historia!!

basically, if a Final Fantasy game came out, and it didnt suck, it would be Radiant Historia.

It wouldn't be nearly so bad if it was consistent, but to my ears she sometimes had the accent, and other times was trying to do "American" English. Prolly doesn't help I really don't like that accent anyway, sounds to mumbly (damn u ME2 Miranda).

Anywho, restarted Rogue Galaxy yesterday. Don't remember it being so hard. I'm in the prison and just burning through resurrection bottles.

Operation Nora left a bad taste in my mouth, as did the bromance following it :whistle2:&

I did not mind Vanille at all.

I think that was the only grinding part in the game. Once you get over that little bump it's all down hill from there. Rogue Galaxy is pretty easy after that point and the game just feels like a chore by the end.
