What's in the PS Store (5/31/16): Neon Chrome, Oxenfree, Primal, There Came an Echo, Plague Inc, & More!
The "FIREBALL" thing is a warning when an enemy is about to use that weapon. In some of the higher difficulties, the AI gets the ability to use items (only 2 kinds though). One is the fireball, and it gets it a lot. Luckily, it doesn't home too well, so it isn't cheap.

P.S. No one answered my question on how the multiplayer in the PSN version of the game works...
I understood that (since the video never showed the player using that, but it was just annoying hearing that all the time.

As for your question, I guess no one bought it, to be able to answer it for ya. =/
They also added three PC Engine games this week:
Blazing Lazers
Neutopia II
Salamander a/k/a Life Force

I've seen people talk highly of PC Engine and NEO GEO games coming to the US PS Store. Let me temper that for a moment:
1) Even in Japan, where they have around 300 PSOne Classics, they have about 24 PC Engine games and 0 NEO GEO games.
2) The US PSOne Classics collection is a smattering of a small handful of excellent games, a giant chasm of neglect in games that are available in other regions that we haven't seen here, and a big boatload of bullshit titles. Do you think they're really going to handle PCE/NG titles well? Based on what evidence?

As for Shin Megami Tensei's price, ¥1000 startled me, too. But it's not the highest priced PSOne Classic, as Final Fantasy Tactics is the same price, and FF VII/VIII/IX are ¥1500 a piece.
Understandable about PC Engine, at least we know for sure that Dreamcast is coming in Sept., so we have that to look forward too, wished they'd put up Jet Set Radio Future (even though it's not a DC game, I'd buy it day 1)

Whether or not they put them on is anybody's guess, I assumed (and it's still too early to tell) that PSN+ was going to start ushering in new content faster, more PS1, and also DC, TG16, Neo Geo, PS2(?!) and who knows what else...

Lastly, I see the value in FF 7,8,9, they are all over 1GB in size, FFT is questionable at that price, even though it's a great game, but my shock (and surprise) was seeing a 60MB game for that amount of money which just blew my mind, and I can't believe Atlus JPN isn't ashamed at selling something so small for such an inflated price.

I've played and beaten the SNES version and played some of the GBA version (which is based off of the PS1 remake) and I can't see how they believe it's worth that much money SMT game or not given the small file size of the title and how old/clunky the battle interface is (think Phantasy Star 1-4).

Filesize doesn't mean shit to me in terms of establishing a relationship to cost.

Is Jet Grind Radio (the vastly superior title, IMO) coming to PS Store? Or just Sonic Whatever?

i wonder if theres a chance youll be able to upload the dc games to a psp. if i remember correctly the button layout is exactly the same.

I'd agree that Sonic Adventure will be abnormal since it's an abomination. Crazy Taxi is just awesome.

@dallow - Unless myke was being serious, I think he was mocking the people that still ask if PS3 and PSN games have trophies long after it's been mandatory.

No, I was being serious.

After all, PSOne Classics don't have trophies.

PC Engine releases don't have trophies.

So it stands to reason that another series of console titles being released in their original version for PS3 might not have trophies, online play, or anything fancy like that, yes?

I'm not so lodged up Sony's arse so as to be on the cutting edge of these things.

This is pretty dumb (average PS Blog commenter dumb), even for you, myke.

PSN games are the main game releases on PSN that are specifically labeled as something else (PS1 Classics, PS Minis, or whatever other labels may be in the works). This isn't rocket science.

If I said they were XBLA games, would you ask if they had achievements because Xbox Live Indie Games don't have them?

No, it's not rocket science, but there are far more categories of games on PSN than the XBLA/XBLI dichotomy.

If it makes you feel awesome and superior to be right, knock yourself right the fuck out. I'm more than capable of being the grown up who can admit to being wrong here.

YOU WIN THE PLAYSTATION STORE NAMING DEBATE! CONGRATULATIONS! Your prize is...well, your prize is waking up tomorrow, and every day after, and still being you: someone really, really passionate about the semantics of a video game marketplace, and someone who is rendered incapable of saying anything negative about Sony.

Let's ignore the descriptors we've used for these games for a few years because you want to nitpick shit to death and act like you don't know the difference in this thread of all places.

I'd love to know what Sega said about Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure that caused a ton of people to forget what XBLA and PSN games are. It's like the concept of a port to these services has never happened before.

I'm not passionate about any of this, nor am I being a child or a fanboy whatever dumb fucking names you want to call me. I'm just dumbfounded that a concept you've been able to handle for years now is suddenly such a complex and confusing idea now. I know you love to play devil's advocate whenever possible, but this is a new low for you.

i really hate it when mom and dad fight lol. i hope things pick up on psn usa as far as uploading ps1 classics but if theyre going to treat dc and ps2 games the same way why ever bother? still curious about wha these games will cost though and if they will be straight ports or if they tinker about with them and improve them. also for the dc ps2 games with mp how would they go about implementing that ?

Sony isn't handling Dreamcast games, it's Sega that is porting their own Dreamcast games to PSN and XBLA. It's not a new label or anything like that and these aren't straight ports/rips.

Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure will likely be $15, though there hasn't been an official announcement on that yet. They're making visual and audio upgrades and are adding leaderboards, achievements/trophies, and all that. They haven't announced any multiplayer games, so you'll have to wait to see what Sega does about that.

This article has details on some issues that each game will have.

its good to hear theyre puting in extra effort for those dc games. i getting sonice adventure day 1.

I'll be skipping Crazy Taxi due to the alterations but Sonic Adventure 1 sounds like a pretty good update of sorts. It has to be better than the abysmal GC port that I have sitting around here.

Doesn't to me either, but my point being (seems I'm having a hard time making it, or you understanding it, dunno which) is that they gussied up a old Super Famicom RPG, and then charge outrageous prices for it, when it A.) Isn't worth it (even though I think it's a decent game) and B.) is super tiny. If they put SMT 1&2 together and charged that amount I'd be ok with it, but as it stands I can't fathom the price vs. size vs. quality. I don't know why, but it's something that sticks in my crawl...(end of discussion as far as I'm concerned)

Wow, so much dislike for that game, it tried something new, did well, but not great. Honestly I'd prefer to see new games come out with the quality and innovation this game had, other than the aborted attempts that Sonic Team has been pushing out in the last decade, but that's just me.

I prefer it to SA2 which I really disliked since it cut out the Adventure portions out of Sonic Adv., if you owned a DC back in the day, this WAS the Sonic game to own, when SA2 came out there was a rift between fans who adored the original, and those who like SA2 because it cut that adv. aspect out, I for one am not one of the latter.

As for Crazy Taxi, I didn't like it as much since I despise driving games that make me use the shoulder buttons to drive, always have, I own both on DC, and played both of 'em maybe 2 hours total, just bored me and turned me off with the control scheme.

And as for debating with Myke, well as you can see it goes round and round till one of you gets tired or dizzy enough to get off the ride. :bouncy:

Did well? The only good things about it are the Sonic stages that had a ton of stupid "adventuring" to fill in the spaces between stages that just made it an awful game. It was the game that told me that this series was going downhill quickly, which is what happened.

You say tomato, I say tomato...err, anyway, I like it, you don't, which one of us is right? Neither, both, who cares? (the correct answer is the last one ;) ) Just like my favorite Genesis version is Sonic 2 (which is the best one) and anyone who says different is wrong. :p ;)

I preferred the exploration even if you didn't. The game has enough goodness in it to justify all of the "stupid" sections as you put it. The only thing I truly despise in that game is the Chao sections, the pokemon thing wasn't needed in SA.

As far as SA2 is concerned it was a train wreck from start to finish (IMO) and I really don't want to get into another argument / debate on semantics over a 10 year old game (and a game that's almost 10 years old) that some people love and others despise. :argue:

Ok. ;)

Least one thing we can agree on (I'd sincerely hope) is that Shadow the Hedgehog is a $#!**% game, and that much is a given. Thank God neither of those other two are anything like it.

Tough crowd lately, sheesh. Heh.

I wouldn't say that there was a good balance either. For every 5 minutes of Sonic platforming levels, you get an hour of wandering around. I saw maybe two levels and a boss fight before I gave up because of how tedious the game was. I wouldn't be surprised if people that haven't touched the game in 10 years got a bit of a wake up call when they see how it has held up over the past decade.

Shrug...can't win'em all. ;)

To me playing as Big, Amy, or even Tails was worth it, I enjoyed them all, their sections are small enough to not be a big bother to me, the downside was the robot, it was out of place due to the play style. But the icing on the cake to me was the Super Sonic levels at the end, awesome rocking soundtrack (which the game had pretty good music as it was) and flying around kicking Robotnik butt (I don't call him Eggman, cause that's stupid...) Much better than the Sonic / Shadow ending battle of SA2.

I'm not totally slagging on SA2, it's a decent game, but I know which I prefer and why I preferred it. Anyway not going to argue, since we're at a stalemate anyways, and neither of us is going to convince the other after all of these years anyway, heh.

yeah the sonic portions were awesome but those extra characters were kind of pointless in sa especially that big damn cat. makes you wonder how much more they could have pt towards the game but it got spread around to those extra uninteresting characters. i also hated having to find objects to open up access to the next level those psuedo quest elements were broken and out of place.

that said the actual game where you go through as sonic was and still is sick. i loved the music on many levels especially casinopolis and the temple stages. its kind of sad the couldnt replicate the same success with most sonic games since but then again maybe at that time we had lower expectations as gamers.

who knows maybe if they had come out with that sonic unleashed game back then it would have been a hit. the vmus were a joke as well cool concept but utterly pointless.

Check out this video. Within Motor Toon Grand Prix there was a bonus mode, which looks very similar to Gran Turismo 1. I read it was actually a test bed for GT1. Apparently Kazunori also said MT was a physics test for GT on some old PSU disc. Kazunori has recently said that he plans to remake Motor Toon after GT5 is finished. I read that MT was (originally?) supposed to be a bonus with GT5 and that is why it is only playable on PS3.

I agree file size should not be compared with cost. I'd pay big money for a game even if it was a few kb if it was awesome. If you want to talk about file size vs cost... Virtual Console, but again I find many NES, SNES etc games worth it.

I stopped playing Sonic after Genesis. I do remember people saying Sonic Adventure was great during the first years of the DC, but ever since then... seems like it's one of those things where people either like a series being changed or want it to stick to the same thing it used to be. In that regard I was always one who seemed to enjoy changes even more than just getting the same (Zelda 2 comes to mind) so I guess I would like Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 if they appealed to me on the surface.

I hope Sonic fans can ultimately come to the resolution that they're only going to get what they want out of retro style games and the new 3d stuff will probably always cater to youths. Capitalism.
For once I agree with J7. Motor Toon Grand Prix was one of the best games back in the day.

If you're a fan of Afterburner at all, I recommend AB Climax completely. It's short, but worth $5.
Haha now I'm wondering all the stuff that you disagree with me about. ;) I've only ever played Afterburner in the arcade back in the 80s. I'll have to read up on this one or see if there's a demo. I've always wanted to play one of the games for more than just a few minutes. I was so young then I don't know if I even played it that much. Thanks for the link Uncle5555

Wow Sony. Don't blow your ps1 wad all at once here on this update. 4 titles, new board for pinball, free syphon filter ps1 for plus members AND a discount on Crash Bandicoot 3?!?!?

free critter crunch isnt too bad if you didnt already have it.....and i didnt but im surprised at no free avatars or themes. i thought they had a heavy rain theme coming.

That 35 pack ssfiv avatar pack is exclusive to plus, if that's any consolation.

Good to see more PSone games up. I remember playing Bugs life when I rented it years ago as a kid, and remembered playing a demo of Emperors New Groove. How well do the Disney games stack up now?

lol it would be if i ever thought avatars were worth paying for.i wonder if they will ever put up some ps1 games people really want. why not toss up re1 or a final fantasy ( i know that will never happen) but itd go a long way to showing people psn+ can be worth it.

so again i ask dammit when the fuck are we getting dead nation??!!?!?!?!

Section 8 is $10, just bought it last week at $15 and still haven't played it :bomb: Ah well. I'm sure I'll get my moneys worth at some point so it's not really a big deal.

Might actually pick up the Blast Factor bundle for $6.50.. I've played it before and didn't think it was that great, but why not support weekly sales?

Section 8 was on sale for $4.99 via Amazon (digital download code), but they're OOS at the moment.

...yes, I just said they're OOS on a digital download.

Damn, I keep forgetting to check Amazon for PSN stuff. I tried adding PSN items on my Amazon wishlist, but they won't let you do it :(

Picked up Zen Pinball Mars table and Afterburner Climax.

It's not a download, it's a code. So of course they can run out of codes since Amazon would only have a limited amount of them to sell.

If they had released CTR, I'd have posted it in the title.

Shitty? Really, has no one played the PS1 Hercules? That game is, or at least was (back in the day), awesome. I'm buying it right now.

and if I remember incorrectly, well.. I'll come back and warn the rest of you.
Ahhh, I was thinking of Herc's Adventures. Good thing I didn't end up buying it.
I might have been as well, which in that case... damn. I just bought it, in the process of downloading, but I'll still report back. I'm not sure which I liked, so we'll find out.
