No, don't buy the disc! It doesn't work on the PS3.

It boots, it runs, but the timing is off and the game is unplayable. I would love access to a Euro account, because I have to believe the version they're selling is fixed.

I've tried Bust A Groove with a wired controller, via remote play, and with a Sixaxis. Equally broken on all. Bust a Groove 2 is marginally better in that it is sometimes briefly playable, but it has the same issues.
Oh crap, really?

I'm willing to hook up my PS2 just to play it though.

And apparently I was wrong about it being on the European store. It's announced but hasn't appeared on their store yet.

I found out the site to create a Euro card and is www.entropay.com
Are you guys running low on space with all these game demos? My 60G is getting under 20G of remaining space.

I would love to have ALL the demos on my HD. I deleted some demos and the space free didn't go up much. I wonder if the Demos leave some files behind after you delete?
My 60GB has around 30GB on it. I know some games copy files to your HDD to play from. For example, MLB 07 has a 1GB game data save on there.

You could always upgrade the HDD, since that is supported and won't void your warranty. Although, just delete things you do not need.

120GB 2.5" SATA drives are getting cheap these days. I was thinking about it.....just not sure how hard it is to copy everything over (BACK UP).

I found out the site to create a Euro card and is www.entropay.com
That's why I tried telling you why bringing Bust A Groove (or most any music/dance PS1 download) to the store isn't a good idea. I've known about the timing lag for quite a while (I tried my old Bust A Groove demos, Um Jammer Lammy, DDR, etc.). They just don't work even with an older controller plugged in.
But maybe they are fixed when sent to SCEE/SCEA for approval?
They won't, because Hot Shots Golf 2 (which needs timing) has the same issues as a PS1 download as it does as a disc game (timing is off).

If they release Bust a Groove on the PS store, they would have to fix it. Otherwise, everyone who purchased it would demand a refund. I can't speak for Hot Shots Golf 2, but Bust a Groove is completely unplayable and anyone who has played the game before would know this within the first minute and could confirm it using the Practice Mode.

I imagine it's not a totally simple fix or they would have done it by now. On the other hand, it's not rocket science either. It did, after all, work on the PS2. There should be a way to compensate for the differences.

Which is why I think they brought PaRappa on PSP stateside.

Anyway, I found this article from various forums:
Sony Computer Entertainment America's (SCEA) John Hight was called in recently for an interview regarding the PlayStation 3's PSN service.

The Q&A session touched on a couple of matters including game pricing, demos, and potential downloadable game size.

Hight started off the interview with an explanation of how he saw PSN as an avenue for young and aspiring developers to debut their creations. "I thought we’re back in the same cool space as the early 90s, where kids can take their own savings," Hight said, "or, as creator Jon Mak did, work on this thing on his own, and find a place to publish it."

Hight further noted that PSN wasn't about swamping its subscribers with sheer quantity. Rather, each of the online service's plethora of downloadables would give its players a very special, unique experience. Hight also explained PSN's seemingly sparse selection of game demos. This was intentional given that a brisk demo may give players a wrong impression of the title's depth.

He cited Blast Factor, which featured a demo release. Hight explained that while a good number of people played the demo, not quite as many actually downloaded the full game. "I think the demo kind of hurt it in a way and people got satiated," said Hight. Regarding PSN's pricing, Hight explained that the this depends heavily on the titles being loaded:

Some of these games are made for a very specific audience, as a book would be or a fine bottle of wine or a music soundtrack. Some of these are going to be pop hits that everybody has to have.

Moving, on Hight did make some interesting notes regarding the Sony's future plans for PSN. For starters, more games are being lined up for this year as compared to 2007, although it's unlikely that current PSN games will be getting sequels. Also being planned in the near future are even bigger downloadable titles - Hight mentions 2 GB as the higher so far - and a focus on cooperative multiplayer matches.

That's the lowdown on this recent interview with Hight. Those interested in reading the full details will want to visit the source link.

Maybe Blast Factor didn't sell because it was fuckin' BORING?

Spin is spin, and that Hight dude was doin' some serious spinnin'. DJ Hight, I think they call him.
Lost planet demo is finally back up. I played it online not that impressed really. It is just a meh online experience.
I really liked it personally. It's the reason I want Lost Planet, but can't do an install right now. I really want more third person online games (FPS give me motionsickness after playing too long).

I agree about wanting more first person online games. Mainly because there are just waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many FPS games right now and besides that I'll always prefer third person to first person.
xmb is that where you can play music within a game or am I mistaken?
XMB=Cross Media Bar. Pretty much the menu of the PS3 so yeah, hopefully that is a feature it will have.
after reading the PSN article I can say I now have more respect for the PSN Store than XBLM. At least Sony is shooting for new experiences instead of rehashes.
I mean for me, you, and a few others, taking chances on new experiences is worthy of our support and money. But if enough people don't do the the same and money isn't made, I wonder if this plan will be seen as a failure or not.

So I downloaded The Show demo and I gotta say it looks cool. I can't remember the last sports game I played (maybe NBA Jam for the SNES :lol: )

So anyone want to explain to me how to play this and not suck? Do these games usually have a good amount of people playing online?

Not sure if you saw, but:

Top 10 Best Selling PSN Games since launch
* flOw
* Mortal Kombat II
* Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection
* PAIN
* Warhawk
* High Velocity Bowling
* Super Stardust HD
* Calling All Cars
* Aquatopia
* Everyday Shooter
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-the-top-10-psn-downloads-since-launch/

I think I kind of see why SCE mentions they may not put up a demo (or wait), since the majority of top downloads didn't have one (Actually, none did except for SSD HD eventually). I am glad to see a few of my favorites do well.

My skepticism is greatly raised by a "top 10 seller" list instead of actual sales numbers. I bet they're dismal - and fl0w in first place really reaffirms that, IMO.

I fail to see how not having a demo is helpful; that's a convenient excuse, but the fact is, on PSN, I buy a game if I try a demo and like it, or if it's on sale. With the exception being Tekken, in my case.

Some free Pain DLC today among other things.
Makes the purchase more worth it.

I am actually writing this update in LAX because my flight was just delayed for an hour AGAIN (I am headed to the Game Developers Conference). This past month has been quite the journey. I must admit that it has been a learning experience that wasn't as PAINless as I initially expected. The good news is that if you are still with us then that update is right around the corner. Right around the corner like Thursday the 21st of Feb. This update includes the leader board reset (and the fix to the score exploit) It also includes the Free Single Player Fun With Explosives Mode and Hung Lo.

Single Player Fun with Explosives comes complete with it's own Leaderboard too.
Lets see how long it takes for you guys to beat my personal score. I will also answer a few questions (demands) that I have been promising everyone for a while. I hope this will shed some light on what is going on with our PAIN.

Other territories:

PAIN will be released in Europe and is translated into English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. We will enable these languages in the American version as well. We did the work so if you would rather play PAIN in a different language feel free.

PAIN is also being released in Asia (except for Japan). Although I hear we might release there as well. More news when I know it.

In the Lab

Last time I spoke to you all I said that I would tell you what came out of the meetings we had with Idol Minds about the future landscape of PAIN. Coke and myself spent a solid week plotting content updates with the PAIN crew. So on a very high level here are the highlights:

Multiplayer
Since everyone told us we suck and need to have Multiplayer in PAIN we agreed. Modes like Horse, Fun With Explosives, Bowling will be playable for 1-4 players over the PSN. So no more posting about this gang. Message received. You can challenge other people across the net with our next Environment.

Replays
Originally our plans were to do a pretty advanced replay system. We decided to handle multiplayer first due to the amount of requests we got for multiplayer from you guys and the press. We will be doing Replay support (a very robust one) in the near future. When we have fully designed what we are doing here I will share.

New Modes
We agreed that in a new Environment there are PAIN skill sets that must be cultivated. Ooching, Throwing, Grabbing etc.. So although a mode might appear different in a new environment it will reinforce skills you have learned in other PAIN Environments.

New Gameplay Elements
Some multiplayer modes could have more interaction. Modes like Bowling are much more fun because the players who are not being launched can be foiled by the other players… elements like….

Pimp Slapping
Should be in every videogame. But since we are only in control of PAIN it should be in PAIN. There is nothing quite a PAINful as a pimphand. And a pimp slap is funnier when it has baby powder attached to it. It's also very important to keep said hand strong.

Oh yeah… and if you happen to be at the Game Developers Conference come see us at the Sony Both. We just might have a cool PAIN T-Shirt for you. I also have 5 shirts I plan on giving out to the Top 5 responders to this posting. If you can:

1. Suggest a cool way of integrating a Pimp slap into PAIN. (I already have my ideas)
2. Post the funniest top 5 lessons you learned in PAIN.
3. Explain what funny sound effects should be in the next update

Lets see some creativity. I already have my baby powder ready. Enjoy the update peeps.

I personally fit into the group that needs a demo on something before I buy if I don't know much about it. Though I did grab Everyday Shooter, but I had been following it closely. PJM was a game I was interested in but didn't keep up with. Without the demo (which I had to get from Japan) I think I might have not picked it up until sometime around now since the demo is hitting the US store soon.
Or a SALE...those help with impulse buys on the PSN games.
That's why I think that EyeToy 'game' was on the bestseller list - it was a "oh, why the hell not?" purchase for $2.

It's not up, but it's a super shitty update.
At least they put the PJ Monsters demo up finally.

And I don't see the PAIN DLC. WTH?

* PixelJunk Monsters demo (free)
* Jet Moto 3 PS1 game ($ )
* Rock Band DLC
o Garbage's "Why do you love me?" ($1.99)
o Stone Temple Pilots' "Sex Type Thing" ($1.99)
o Weezer's "El Scorcho" ($1.99)
* PAIN "Fun with explosives!" Single-player add-on ($ )

* Bionic Commando Rearmed trailer (free)
* MLB 08 The Show "Stolen Base" video (free)
* MLB 08 The Show "Pitcher batter analysis" tutorial video (free)
* MLB 08 The Show "Replay vault" tutorial video (free)
* Conflict: Denied Ops Dev. diary 4 (free)
* Kung Fu Panda teaser trailer (free)
* We Own The Night Blu-Ray trailer (free)

Really? fuck you, Sony. Where's some numbskull Sony supporter who wants to tell us that this week's paltry offerings are a means of making us appreciate the "awesome" weeks where we get TWO demos?
What big thing were people expecting for the update this week?
I think with the "once a week" update the PSN gives relative to XBL, the least they could do is not offer up a shit platter like they did this week.
I think with the "once a week" update the PSN gives relative to XBL, the least they could do is not offer up a shit platter like they did this week.
Seems like a decent week to me. Especially with no demos of note on XBL this week, just some videos and the weekly XBLA game.

GoW2 video/theme/gamerpics, N+ - that was just yesterday.

I'm not saying "MGS4 demo every week!" - but I am saying that a demo of a game over a month old (which was already available elsewhere), and Jet Moto 3 are just crap.

Again, you don't even have to compare Sony with MS - compare them with themselves. The JPN store is what the US store *should* look like.

Oh, but I guess I can't be upset, since I'll get a "bubble machine" in Home next week. That's real fucking cool.

Yeah, but did you see the GoW2 pic and video?

Inverse colored logo, and CG teaser that shows nothing.

I would have liked a PS3 demo for something already out there myself, just to give something.

I think it's a pretty standard fare update when there's not much going on at the moment.

I will stay pissed though about the SHITTY JOB with the PSX GAMES however.
You can't ever have enough of those.
