Wipeout HD - Fury DLC Incoming
Thing is, I signed into an alt account with 0 friends and got the same freeze.
That's weird. I cut down a few to 57 and it works now. Oh well. At worst you can sign out of PSN and play it. That way you'll still get trophies, but will suck that you can't play online, yet.
Thing is, I signed into an alt account with 0 friends and got the same freeze.
I tried with an alternate account and it worked, but there was a network error to play online at the time.

No poblems through playing it last night missions or online. I gotta say that zone as it is, is a pretty intense visual. I'm very much liking this so far.

I played online with a friend and we could not talk to each other. My mic was working in WarHawk last night (as well as it ever works in WarHawk that is) and it worked perfectly in SOCOM so I think the problem was not at my end. Any one else have problems with voice in Wipeout? The races are too fast to talk (my opinion) but would be enjoyable in the Lobby waiting for people to join and to razz each other between Tournament races. I really wish Sony had provided a working Voice chat system like MS did with Xbox Live. I know many people think paying for Xbox Live is a waste when PSN is free, but I online gaming sucks when you cannot talk with your friends.

Stupid question, but you're pressing L1, right?

In the first lobby, where you wait for people to join, I could see my mic symbol every time I pushed L1, but I did not get a response. There was only one other person playing, my friend, and he told me via message board that he heard the occasional garbled sound, and he kept asking if I heard him (nope! - nor did I see his mic light up). I really hope this is the exception as I really like this game and want to play more online.

How's the motion controls when using a dual shock 3? I hear they're actual useable this time, especially since they use the rumble feature as a kind of force feedback to let you know when you're off the line.

I have not really paid much attention to the rumble, which may explain why I am doing so poorly.

So deleted the game and redownloaded/installed. Still can't get more than 5 seconds after it says "Sony Corporate Entertainment" and the video starts playing. LAME.

This game is so badass its insane. Truly a standout title for this gen. It is just drop dead gorgeous, plays rock solid in 1080p, and is just plain FUN. Lovin it. Id keep on playing but it stops my downloads from the psn (still downloading burnout), or else id be playing still.

Yeah I noticed that too. Why does it stop the downloads? I'm not playing online.
Yeah I noticed that too. Why does it stop the downloads? I'm not playing online.
Some games do that because it's still accessing some kind of server while playing (therefore, no background download).

Installed the key first and tried playing while not signed in (with an account with 0 friends as well), still froze before I could ever even get to the menu.

I just tried the online for the first time. It was pretty smooth for about 10 races (I remember how many because I got the Connected trophy), but then it started freezing up for about 5-10 seconds whenever I pushed L1 for chat. I thought maybe it might be Wipeout's unique take on the mic bug so I disconnected it, and L1 still froze the game up, which is great. And apparently my freezing didn't affect anyone else, even though I was the host. This game could definitely have used a little more testing before release.

Oh and PTT VoIP sucks.

I need one point to move on from the 4th campaign mode... I have all medals except one place that I can never get... I missed it by 7/100ths of s second >_< fuck. the game is really kicking my ass.

Heh, and here I am still crashing into walls.

I think I'll stick to racing games with more friction and wheels. ;)

Not that wipeout isn't a good game, I just can't handle the hovercraft. Motorstorm 2 is more my thing.

Now if only Motorstorm had weapons...

Check out burnout if you haven't yet, it has friction and no weapons but encouraged destruction. Also make sure the assist thing is on in wipeout. It helps just enough that it will save you from some crazy crashes, while still making you feel like you're really controlling the thing.

There's one off the top of my head where you can take a shortcut off a jump onto a really narrow piece of track with a bunch of boost arrows. My ship was wiggling back and forth erratically. I promptly turned it off.

I have yet to try out the online, since it keeps freezing on me, but then again I don't want to reduce my friend's list to 50 or less so that I could play online... I'm just going to wait for the patch... :(

this game is great... I downloaded that music playlist for the game, but I'm liking my friends mix CD called "Possibly the greatest tekno CD ever made"... it isn't, but it's perfect for the game.
I don't understand the zones... am I just not supposed to hit the walls?
Your not supposed to hit the walls, but as your ship goes faster and faster, it is pretty much impossible to avoid hitting them.

I know the exact spot you mean, you need to hit the jump at a perfect angle and you can fly through otherwise it can get pretty shaky. Generally using a boost up there can also help straighten out.
PTT VoIP is awesome =D I think more games should implement the option/choice.
PTT VoIP stands for "Push to Talk Voice Over IP"

In other words it means that you have to push a button in order to activate the in game chat. (I think you may possibly have to hold it too, I'm not really sure on this since I haven't played any games with buddies yet so I've avoided using my headset. I would be very pleased if it was just push it once to activate and then push it again if you want to turn it off, but I don't know of any game which does it like this.)

The only thing I don't like about this game is the Time Trials. Time Laps are fine, because if you mess up you'll get another shot in another 30 seconds or so, but having to redo an entire 2 minute or so process just seems like a more irritating version of Time Lap. Otherwise I'm really liking the game, even though I'm not very good at it.
I'll be posting up my playlist later at some point for you people. it's entirely made up of stuff most of you haven't ever heard of but goes great with the game.
Sounds good to me!

IIRC, you have to hold the button to talk, when you let go, it cuts off.

so can somebody explain to me how to play this game??

when I think of racing games I think all you do is hold down the A button =P

coz like... I saw screenshots and the game looks gorgeous!!

but I played Wipeout for PSP for a bit and hated it coz I had no idea how to play... I kept hitting the wall and made last place -_-

I dont wanna spend $20 for something that I dont think I can enjoy... If I cant play the game well then I could just enjoy looking at the screens instead...

this game takes skillz and I know you like skillz (emphasis on the z). a large key into playing good is knowing how to use your thrusters properly. this small detail really makes the game different from normal racers and sets the babys from the bigger babys (or adults... or whatever).

note too jekki: I hate racing games but this is one of the few I actually enjoy.

I discovered an error: in the control options, "wall collisions" is mislabeled as "airbrake sensitivity" and defaults to 100%, so at first you hit the wall on every single turn! I dialed this down to about 50-70% and now it's pretty smooth sailing. (Not using 0% because I want to make sure I at least hit a few walls.)

Metal gear solid 4 does but i think in wipeout you have to hold the button down which is kinda dumb since this is a racing game. Another reason why people dont talk on psn

This game owns! I haven't played wipeout since the first one and this is amazing all over again.
Now I want to run out and find some cheap copies of the psp titles.
I really hope we get some classic wipeouts on psn soon and some more tracks for the new game.
The music is good but custom soundtracks made this a no brainer purchase for me.

It is funny that a lot of demos take up more memory than this gem.

Who's hosting the game?

I'd like to race but I'm available at 6:30P at the absolute earliest. Hopefully you guys will be playing for a while.

Playing Wipeout HD with a podcast as the soundtrack is pretty cool, as it definitely makes me want to keep playing to hear more. The tunnel effects and such sound nice for podcasts, as well.
