The 360 wired controller is a standard USB device. Drivers are not necessary for basic functionality but they are available from MS website.

It's a teriffic PC Controller.
 
Even if you've got a wireless controller, pick up one of these. The wireless controller's d-pad is shite. I thought I just got a bad one, but I'm on my third, and its d-pad sucks too. The wired one's fine.
 
Some people are giving poor information. The 360 WIRED controller, ALONG with the WIRELESS controller, are both notorious for frequently having absolutely GARBAGE D-Pads. I bought one, discovered this, and then went through hell to return it (I've posted the long story elsewhere...won't go through it here).

Regardless, they are NOT good PC gamepads, in my mind, since many would use them for emulation, and with a GARBAGE (I would call it disgustingly bad) D-pad, its useless.

There really isn't a good PC gamepad on the market...still...I think the only decent one is the Logitech Rumblepad 2, but even that one has a questionable D-pad...

The search continues.

Maybe MS will eventually fix the horribly defective D-pad (and I should clarify that MOST controllers are plagued, but some make it out of the factories ok) and then it will be worth the buy. Or maybe when they release black controllers.
 
As an owner of two 360 wireless controllers, I also agree, the D-Pad is shit.

It seems like the problem to me is that the D-Pad is off-center, so pushing it towards a certain direction results in the D-Pad hitting the plastic around the pad, instead of the contact below, unless you apply more pressure.
 
I was going to buy one of these, but I read through all of the reviews on Reseller Ratings. Overall, they are rated above average, but a couple of the reviews indicate that this seller will often sell USED/REFURBISHED items without indicating that they are refurbished. Considering that this price is almost TGtBT, my fear is that this is another case of this.

QFT.

I would press moderately hard to the right and nothing would happen. Then I'd press more, and there would be intermittent registering of the pressure...and finally, if I pressed a bit more, I'd hear a click, like the D-pad was falling off the edge of the plastic sensor pad and pinching it.

Its crap.
 
The controller was just shipped to my house. The controller was without retail packaging but doesn't look like it's been used, OEM maybe? I just recalibrated the controller for my PC and it's working great. I have not had any problems with the D-pad like a few have posted. So far it's a huge improvement compared to my previous AirFlo.
 
would this controller work for the ps2 as well since the ps2 has a usb drive too?

racing games and shooting games could be easier if this worked for it
 
Since it was brought up, I'd like to toss in my $0.02 about the 360 d-pads. The one on my wireless out of the box pad is just fine. I bought a wired one from Best Buy. D-pad and "back" buttons were both fubarred. Took it back, and the new one is just fine. There are lots of bad ones out there, but it's a defect and not a design flaw.

I got it today and have the same experience. Good deal. It does appear to be OEM, but I expected nothing less after reading the reviews. I never did get an email confirmation that the order had even gone through though...

Yes, truthfully I hate MS's d-pad too I'm very partial to the Playstation's separated button's better accuracy on it's d-pad, instead of the bulky, solid 1piece design MS and it's 3rd party developers make. I like the xbox / 360's size, placement of the left analog better though, and touch sensitive triggers.

If I were a PC gamer, I would buy the $6-7 USB adapter that allows you to use a PS2 controller or the worse an Xbox controller.

I'm sure they make Xbox to PS2 adapter, right? As far as a PS2 controller working on your 360 your going to be without "touch sensitive" triggers on certain games, for example, Madden's new passing.

The real question then is, will our original Xbox controllers work with the 360 using those USB adapters. The only sacrafice would be the "shoulder" buttons and using Black & White as usual.

The answer is no. Trust me...it's one of the first things I tried. IMHO, the new dynamic assigning of "port" means the old XBox controllers are missing the necessary logic chip which is needed to be assigned to Player X. As a result, no non-360 compatible controller can be forced to work.

Although, that being said, I have been able to hook up my wireless keyboard receiver and use my keyboard to type. The wireless mouse didn't seem to do anything though.

Thanks for the info, that's good to know it's been tried.

I'm still wondering as well, like swetooth9 asked, would this controller work for the ps2 as well since the ps2 has a usb drive too?

I still say as far as PC gaming a PS2 and Xbox controller aren't bad as a possible, especially if you have a few laying around un-used, and counting those USB adapters are only $5-10.
