I started up The Bridge last night and it's fantastic. It had a familiar Braid-like feel to it, and that's one of my favorite XBLA games. The demo likely shows you everything you need to know about making the purchase and none of the achievements seem that hard if you're really concerned about them.
Yep, I played the demo and I really liked it. I added up the Contrast trial as well so I'm going to try it, and if I do like it, it will stay on my HDD just like a bunch of other trials until it goes on sale :)

I'd love to see them release Pool Nation as a Games for Gold freebie.... i love the game, and wish i could find people to play with online... i haven't seen anyone online when i played since april!

i play the game a hour or two a week just on single player... i'd play it a whole fuckload more if there was anyone to play with..
I haven't played online for a long time, just play endurance in a regular basis, till i managed to set the world record. FR me to play some, i haven't touched any other game mode for ages and kinda miss them.

What really concerns me is the length: it seems far too short. Other than that, im an Escher whore so im pumped. I'll wait for a price drop.

And I have never heard of anyone NOT buying a game becuase it has odd value for achievments. If there are such people out there, then they have serious issues. No gamer in his right mind would forgo buying and playing a great game based on the values of its achievement.
There are many in this very forum. I'll let them chime in if they choose too. They are many of the same people who do not buy a game if it has unobtainable achievements. To suggest that everyone who does not share your opinion is insane is pretty naive. I certainly do not place as much importance on achievements when judging the merits of a game as some do, but they are free to use any criteria they wish. To each his own.

Besides, selling as many copies as humanely possible is not the main goal for a lot of indie developers. Many just want to make quality games and sell enough copies to allow them to continue to do so. Just go ahead and watch Indie Game The Movie. It showed the developerment of 3 very key indie releases (Fez, Braid, and Super Meat Boy), and the prioroties for these kinds of developers is VERY different than companies like Activsion, who do want nothing more than to sell as many copies as humanely possible.

All I can say is THANK GOD that there are a LOT of developers out there who disagree with your "Sell as many copies as possible" approach. If they all followed that path, the video game industry would be....well, lame. I probably wouldnt even be playing games anymore. And for the record, making the achievments as easy as possible is hurting the overall quality of the game as quality achivements can really add a LOT to a game. The idea of creating a lesser quality game for the sake of selling more copies is one of the biggest problems with many of today's larger developers. Again, Activision is a perfect example.
Indie developers can do whatever they want. Without a publisher they are pretty much a self-owned small business with no responsibilities to anyone. If they want to do stuff to be artistic and not for financial gain they can definitely do that. However, keep in mind that they also cannot publish their games on XBL. So in most cases you cannot even use them in this argument because their games lack XBL achievements.

I'm sorry I have to shatter your illusions now, but the video game industry (and any business for that) operates in the exact manner I've described. Therefore it is lame....by your estimation. I can guarantee you, that if a publisher had to publish one game, and they had to choose between two, they will go with the safest one that will move the most copies. Why do you think we see a new Madden game every year, or call of duty, or <fill in the blank>? It's because they know that they will be able to sell truck loads of them even if they are not significantly different from last year's version. When creativity does not lead to profitability it is bad news for game companies. There have been many fantastic, well made, and critically acclaimed games that never got a sequel because they didn't sell enough copies.

It would be safe to assume, that if you gave Curt Schilling a time machine, he would go back in time and instead of creating Kingdoms of Amalur (a fantastic game btw) , he would've tried to make some safe by-the-numbers game that he knows will sell. Again, this is not to say that creativity is bad. It just takes a back seat to profitability.

So again, I applaud any developer that tries to make thier game a little more unique or a little bit better through the use of unqiue achievments. If the cost of that is selling a few copies less then so be it. I am ok with that and I guarantee they are too.
And I guarantee they are not, because those few copies could be the difference between making another game and filing for bankruptcy.

Don't stop playing games. Just buy something besides Call of Duty and Madden. :)

I think I'm going to pass on getting the new achievements this time around. I got all of them in the last title update and they were so time consuming and annoying that I kind of regret wasting so much time on them. I literally deleted the game off my 360 right after the final achievement popped.
Well at least the new set of Achievements LOOK easier..but I agree the 10.000 healings were a PITA...same for all these quests uuuurgh...so much time wasted around 100 hours I think lol

Agree with your post, but just wanted to correct this minor error-- Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, in addition to being a good game, sold well and made money for 38 Studios. It was the only smart thing they ever did business-wise. Their problem was the millions of dollars they sunk into the Amalur-themed MMO project that was never even released.

As for weird achievement point values, I'm one of those weirdos that likes to have my gamerscore end in a zero or five. Not to the extent that I would skip a game I actually wanted to play over it, but for some new game I've never heard of, finding out that the developers decided to get cute with the gamerscore is somewhat of a turnoff.

Let me introduce you to a few websites that have plenty of people that will not buy a game if it has bonkinitonessery gamerscore.

Didn't you post a similar rant the other day, which you deleted after a short while? Or was that someone else? Something about how people who have Gamerscore OCD weren't real gamers, and should find another hobby, or some such?

If that was you, you should have left it up. It was pretty funny.

Avoiding games with broken Achievements and avoiding games with Achievements that don't end in five or zero are two different kinds of crazy. IMO the latter is more severe.

I don't ever look-up achievements/trophies prior to buying, but if one of the things I hear about for an unknown game are its "controversial achievements" in a thread like this then it just comes off as begging for attention and that just makes me hesitant about the quality of gameplay/production values if this is how a developer plans to let their game speak for itself (see: Avatar: The Last Airbender's "easy 1000 points"). Otherwise, The Bridge better have a mind-blowing narrative about prime numbers, but all I see are barely animated, black-and-white "tumbler levels" - of which I first played within Lazy Raider in 2010 and then smartphone games.

I know it's been noted already by several people but...

Iron Brigade is good.  Actually better than I expected even, and I expected I'd play it quite a bit anyways.  while the weird alt-history angle is, well, weird... I find the atmosphere and story to be fairly fun.

I don't get the Achievement/Gamerscore thing.  Never will.  I don't pay attention to any of it in the least when I'm playing.  Seems incredibly-weird to me that some people put so much stock into it, but... whatever floats your boat I guess.

The only time I've looked at achievements first was for Lost Planet and the re-release, which have different list with one focusing on MP and the other on SP. Since I was looking to play it for the first time, I opted for the original instead.

Do you think we'll see sales on Xbone content this year? Seems like they'd wait at least a few weeks before discounting things.
I can only think of Introduction discounts (like Meatboy or Retro City Rampage) since all the stuff will be new....maybe some discounts on titles/content that was also released on the 360 before hum...

I bit on Re4 great game Hope the hd version is good.
It's about the same quality as usual, but it's "HD". All they did to both it and Code Veronica for 360 was add some slightly better widescreen and upscaling, no actual graphical changes or anything. Cutscenes are pre-rendered too, so no bonus costumes appear in them.

Looks like a sale on Max Payne 3 MP stuff (maps, weapons, items), hopefully they'll add some other stuff later tonight/tomorrow.

Mp3 stuff isn't gold exclusive, so we can hope for a better dotw.
I already have both the game and the season pass, I hope they discount some old DLCs. I've been waiting for years for halo wars dlc :/

I Think I just want goddamn Mass Effect 3: Citadel to go on sale so I can finally play Mass Effect 3 with all the DLC and finally get outraged over the ending as well.

So I'm just noticing that page 2 of the dotw on the console has a bunch of dishonored stuff. All dlc half off and game 67% off. Is this an old sale? A sneak preview of this week? Game shows 29.99 this isn't the sale price is iT?

Royal high night-I was just thinking of going the GS route but this way you know they won't sell out at least.

I finally discovered a Xbox deal!

This is a screw up and most likely the next dotw. If memory serves me right the goty edition will be $25 at Gamestop come Black Friday, so you can go that route instead of downloading everything (if you wish so).

Some DLC I want to go sale for some time now....PLEASE <.<

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Season Pass

Gears of War Judgment VIP-Pass

Iron Brigade: Martian Bear 400 MSP
I can't see these three happening.

Assassin's Creed only came out 3 weeks ago, the Iron Brigade one would've been part of this G4G offer.

The only one that has a possibility is Gears but I don't know why you'd want to buy the VIP pass for that POS game.

I'm too lazy to look at the DLC, but Dishonored is $9.89 for DotW.

EDIT: DLC appears to be on sale as well.

Sweet if the Dishonored DLC is going on sale.  Been meaning to play Knife of Dunwall so now I can get the follow up DLC to it for 50% off I will play them both back to back this week.

I don't know how to check but does anyone know if Brothers: A Tale of two sons has ever been on sale?

I'm hoping it comes up soon.

Well as for Ac 4 Season Pass I know it's not possible...

As for Judgement I have a few friends I play those games and yeah it's yet the worst GoW Game...

Martian bear I had a DLC once which I sold..because I never was going to buy Iron Brigade..seriously it's just not my type of game especially since you can't barely do anything without some help from others...

EDIT: Well Brightmore Witches DLC is on sale...so yay..I guess? Got the other 2 dlcs from a sale earlier...

So guys, how about Dishonored, did you like it? I watched some video reviews and it seems that it's not for me (looks like a mix between Assassins Creed and Hitman, but in first person). Great Dotw though.

It's definitely worth $10.00. I beat it once and I wouldn't mind running back through it and that's pretty rare for me. It's probably closest to Bioshock with less emphasis on the story and setting.

Well it seems like another week where there is nothing that interest me.That seems like a great price for Dishonored but to bad I did not like the game when I rented it.

I love stealth games, especially ones that focus on player expression through building up a character and varied approaches to problems. I fucking hated Dishonored. Controlling my characters felt clunky and imprecise. My powers never let me feel like I had a leg up on my enemies and were more trouble then they were worth to use, even once I got relatively far into the game. I think the game looks absolutely horrible, and I realize saying that about an xbox360 game isn't anything new, but I have seen games as of this year impress me on xbox360 visually, and for this to look as shitty as it does probably speaks more to the art style, poor animation, etc. The story did nothing for me, characters were bland-to-downright unlikable. Overall, I couldn't (despite trying for 2 whole weeks before selling it) find one thing I liked about it or why it became the sleeper darling hit that everyone says it is. My suggestion would be trying one of the myriad other stealth games (DX: Human Revo is you want a FPS stealth game? I at least thought that was playable) or third person stealth games which I tend to find vastle superior since situation awareness of your avatar is key to, ya know, stealth.

Edit: But for $10, you can afford to learn for yourself. I hope you have a better experience.

Thanks for the input, bros.

Yeah, the setting kind of remind me of Bioshock as Pride7ds mentioned. It's just that it doesn't appeal enough for me, though I was interested in it since the first preview I watched about it, but iI feel that I won't like it.

And I'm sure it's worth 10 bucks (20 with all the DLC), but as a CAG, I have a ton of games in my backlog, so I guess I'll follow Bulldozer86's advice and play DX: Human Revolution instead (when I feel like playing a stealth game), which I own with it's DLC.

Edit: I don't feel comfortable spending 10 bucks just to see if I like a game, I'm kind of short of money lately :whee:

Edit2: I see that my state now shows CAGiversary!, though CAG Veteran sounded way better xDDD
