Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I'm thinking about ordering the second one (2TB) - I know very little about external storage. Is this something I would have to format before connecting to the XB1? Or can I just take it out of the box, connect it to the XB1 via included USB 3.0 cable, and - hopefully with magic - I'm prompted for the XB1 to format to it? Is there an app on the system to file manage? I'm hoping this is user-friendly for non-tech savvy people, but in case it isn't, I wanted to ask.

Thanks in advance! :)

Just take it out of the box plug it in and it'll ask you if you want to format it for the Xbox One.

There's storage settings in the system menu's somewhere that let you choose to download select content straight to the external drive or to the internal drive, and you can also manually move things over to the new external drive when you connect it.

Just bear in mind these HDD's come with their own power source so they'll take up an additional outlet. I'm not sure if the Xbox One requires hard drives like this but mine works that way and I imagine it's for the better compared to using the systems power.

Bought KI Season 2 $36 version. Easy decision since they gave me season 1 for free and I would have paid $20 for it. If anybody wants to play, add me and send a message. GT is in sig.

Fun fact that I just learned last night: USB 3.0 external HDDs on the Xbone are faster than the internal drive. They cheaped out on a lower speed internal bus for the HDD so the USB 3.0 transfers faster. If you put your games on there they should load faster.

I'm getting the portable 2TB and already have the portable 1TB version which is getting hooked up to the Xbone. Going to take the 2TB one and strip out the drive, put it in the PS4, put the 500GB back in the housing then use it on the WiiU. Both systems recommend powered drives naturally but several sites recommend the portable version for consoles and I haven't seen any issues so far. It is $10 more expensive than the desktop form factor but I want it for the PS4 drive/housing.

Is that the 1TB drive from the kindle deal? I haven't tried it yet, curious to know if that's the one you're talking about.

Anyone know how the Xbox Rewards Punch Cards work? I just preordered Shadows of Mordor last night but it still says I need to purchase 3 games. Does it just need time to update?
I don't know how the punch card works but I do know it takes about 96 hours for your stuff to show up. If you did buy it, it should still count for the punch card, it just shows up later.

Random XBLA trivia:

Since January 1:

33 games have been released (including Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD)

18 games have been delisted (including Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD)
Liberation got delisted?!?!? I was waiting for a sale on that :wall:

I didn't know you could play EA Access games after release for 6 hours. I let my subscription run out the week before NHL came out and re-subbed for FIFA. Downloading NHL 6 hour trial now.

Protip if you ever have to call Time Warner tech support: call customer service and ask to be transferred to Level 3 tech support. You won't wait for hours on end on hold that way. You'll get through almost instantly.
This. My GF worked for Time Warner, and gave me the direct number for tier 3. So much easier.

They have people who are actually tech savvy, and won't step you through the "unplug your modem and plug it back in" troubleshooting BS. I do IT for a living, and troubleshoot far further than the "unplug and replug" crap before I even call in. I console in to the modem, and feed the dB levels to the tech, and mention any error logs I come across. Tier 3 knows exactly where I'm coming from, and stuff gets resolved fast.

After signing in to Xbox.com, I had the ability to purchase AC Liberation for $19.99 sooooo....... source for delisting?

I just noticed Darksiders II is $65 on the Canadian marketplace! I think this is the most expensive GwG we've gotten so far right?

Hey! Assassin's Creed Liberation HD is indeed back on the marketplace! Now I can continue ignoring it like I usually do until it's under $10.

Does anyone know how hard it is to return something bought in a physical Microsoft Store?

I kinda want to go get Forza on the 30th there just because I'm a sucker for swag.

What are they giving away with forza??

I was surprised to get an xbox t shirt, metal water bottle, poster, wristband, and some other stuff with Destiny.

Not often this thread would be more happier. A large number of CAGs who were patient including myself were rewarded with a Mass Effect 2/3 DLC sale. In addition, there were once again titles spanning different genres offered on discount (and I hope to find good partners willing to put up with my awfulness at shooters for Fuse and Syndicate) justifying my Gold membership. Don't stop there Microsoft, there's still plenty of DLC on the 360 I will purchase if discounted like the rest of the Mass Effect 2 DLC, Earth Defense Force 2025 DLC, DOA5U costumes, the newer Pinball FX2 tables, DLC to games that are on sale, etc. to name a few. We're experiencing that incredible happy high from an amazing date night, and already hearing good things are coming.

The news of October's Games with Gold also excites me, since I hear Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the best of the series available on the 360. This time, unlike Monaco which I bought on sale before it was a title for Games with Gold, it will be brand new to me and I look forward to trying it out for 1000 reward points. I'm glad this thread found out why I did not see 1000 reward points for my time spent with Monaco. Knowing the reason leads me to think I may get less opportunities for rewards due to a high chance I already own a title slated for the Games with Gold program. Bad Company 2 is a rare exception, and I hope to take full advantage of the situation. I could have been foolish to play Halo: Reach for 10 hours to gain what I thought would be 1000 reward points, but I am glad I opted to knock off other backlog titles instead, sadly with the reduced possibility of me gaining any reward points, I have less incentives to clear certain titles from my backlog.

[EDIT 2': Thanks shulamm for the response. Helps in figuring out the actual terms of some Xbox Rewards offer. Deleted section to relieve Page Down strain]

I don't know if it's a newer generation or some gamers nowadays that have difficulty playing certain games like Bioshock 1 because it's too slow/controls cumbersome(switching between guns and plasmids), but I wonder if this is the Call of Duty effect? Fast paced and not relying on your skill/available weapons perhaps? I've seen(or read I should say lol) my fair share of journalists who are previewing The Master Chief Collection for the X1 and are having difficulty going back to having no sprint stick, no leveling up, etc. What say you guys?

Skonson - as far as "suggesting" Masters continues to plough through the game when he's more than halfway done, I think it's safe to say he's just not into it........I've learned some people just don't have as much fun as others with certain games no matter how "great" we deem they are. I love pretty much every single genre of games and enjoy all the critical hits by gamers and the press as I've been gaming for over 28 years, but for example, I just CANNOT get into Zelda Ocarina of Time. I've tried three separate times the past 15+ years and it's just not fun. To this day, I just prefer all the top down Zelda games vs. the 3D ones *shrugs*

Best we can do is make our suggestions and hopefully people like them. Anyways, sorry for the small rant and not meaning to say you're forcing something on him or others. Not meant to come out that way :) Just that we all have different tastes. And mine unfortunately, will never like OoT
Sometimes comfort with controls could account for a person's enjoyment of a video game. I come from a different ancient time where I just pretty much learn to adapt to various control methods. I don't seem to have any issue switching to left stick aiming on Dead Rising, Deadly Premonition, and Resident Evil 4 back to the now standard right stick aiming of most games. I've had to go with both mouse+keyboard to dual analog sticks for first-person shooters, I am still more comfortable pulling down to ascend and pushing up to dive in flying vehicles, I'm alright on pad but sub-par with stick for a once complicated motion+button combinations for the benefit of execution in fighting games, and sometimes some titles are purposely obtuse with their controls (like Gunvalkyrie) or unique control methods (DDR, Virtual On) in order to serve a distinct style of fun the designers had in mind and I have been taught by designs to play those games in that way (now Virtual On games must be in twin-stick tank style controls for me). Ideally most games should employ options for a person to designate functions to whatever appropriate directional input/button (analog/digital) they'd want, but sometimes either designers think it is best their way ("no, Y must be jump for my game", or "players will like to melee by clicking the right stick down instead of those disgusting bumpers or face buttons"). I've not had any severe problems adapting, even to sometimes inverting camera controls (as some here did with Beyond Good & Evil HD). While I too have preferences but given some time, I can get acclimated even at my old advanced age; so I believe younger, more adaptable minds should have less of a problem than I. However, sometimes people can change their opinion of a game as time progresses or with experiencing more of what a game offers, which is why I am curious how much I can take and if I'll like Dark Souls.

I seriously am the same way. I think my newest generation of games I really got into were the Xbox and PS2 years. I'm 27 and the SNES and Sega Genesis were my favorite game systems and era of games. It was nice the Xbox Live introduced us to online competition via console, as in mainstream online competition, but honestly my heart is in the 16 bit era.

Give me Final Fight, Sunset Riders, and Chrono Trigger over Halo 4, Ninja Gaiden 2, and FFXIII any day

That being said, I freaking loved the Bioshock series to death and I can play anything with a great story. My favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy Tactics which is always strongly rivaled by Shining Force whenever I make my bi annual runs through them.
Oh fishing for my likes by invoking my fondness of a time which contained, in retrospect, its own moments of perfection. Cheap trick, it worked. Don't worry, I do it all the time when I post too. My heart is also with the greats in Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fight, and you can guess Chrono Trigger as well ^^. However, I am not so naive to understand that there is just the possibility that those titles just happen to catch me at the correct time.

Since I still think there are wonderful titles currently made in the same spirit that was once and still great to me, which I am sure will impart the same moment of perfection for others of a newer, younger generation for you kids. I've found modern equivalents which I still had tons of fun with: your Final Fight to Scott Pilgrim, your Sunset Riders to Hard Corps: Uprising, and Chrono Trigger I'll say the Ys series has been solid for me for decades (but if you want to stay 360, I'll say Costume Quest; I was going to say "FFT with Senjou No Valkyria" considering how far Shining has fell away from SRPGs with Shining Resonance IMO). I do not think the magic is lost, there's still plenty of variety to find a great experience, that's why I'm so eager to link titles which interest me like Freedom Planet, Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku, Shovel Knight, etc. which I think would appeal to the 16-bit sensibilities. With the large variety of titles out there, one can find much to their own tastes, just have to open your heart to them.

I played through the first couple Bioshock titles, and I hope to get Bioshock Infinite for cheap soon; but so far instead of story, I think what I enjoy more of the series are their locale settings. For story games maybe the recent Telltale ones can foot the bill better in my opinion. I just feel I play video games for a combination of various reasons, some may lean more towards mastery (fighting games), story (point/click adventures), or some people even just for achievements, amongst other reasons, but if a person just doesn't like the original Bioshock for controls, I wouldn't fault them for it. It just may not be their thing. I remember introducing myself to this thread through sharing how I had severely disliked Castle Crashers despite is relatively unanimous praise from everyone else (explaining why I was displeased with the game's mechanical and artistic elements). I have come to terms with having an opinion on video games which is not shared by many.

Still can't believe we don't get Guilty Gear Xrd....Arcs System just don't care about the xbox brand anymore.
While the Xbox brand didn't get BlazeBlue: ChronoPhantasma (and it may still get it with this 2.0 version due out soon), Atlus USA is releasing Persona 4 Arena Ultimax on the 360 even when it wasn't released on the 360 in Japan! So there is a chance Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- could also get a localization to the 360 and X1 when it hits the USA. I am as hyped about the game as you, and I may import the game even knowing a US version is due out as I did with Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late. These days it is amazing what can get localized, I never thought Aquapazza would be released and Arcana Heart 3: Love Max!!!!! is due out in the USA this holiday as well (and the earlier edition of Arcana Heart 3 was released for the 360 too!). I'm so hyped the first of Sega's 3 fighting games, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, is going to be released this holiday and I am seriously hoping for a localization (the others being Koihime Enbu and Blade Arcus from Shining I don't think have been confirmed for home console yet); with the large amount of 360 and X1 fighting game fans in the US and UK, given the love for Killer Instinct and Skullgirls (I still haven't tried to see if the Eliza 108k unlock key from earlier this week works yet), there's a chance they will arrive on Xbox. Also working towards the Xbox favor is that Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- utilizes the Unreal Engine middleware, so a multiplatform release is quite possible. [As a side note, with ID@Xbox bringing the indies, Yatagarasu could be another title that can hit the X1 later too.]

Master Chief Collection is the exception. Those upgraded sound effects are amazing and need to be applied in H5.

Almost everything else released or upcoming is borderline pointless as far as remasters go.
I don't think Halo: The Master Chief Collection is the exception. It is one of the titles that I felt did a remake/remaster right, like the Monkey Island Special Editions, it allowed for a seamless transition to see the original faithfully reproduced and the remastered versions to directly compare, without much altering of the original's standout play. However, another great remake I really liked was the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil which will soon get a 360 and X1 release, which toyed with the expectations of those that experienced the original but also stands alone as its own new game with the similar notes. Sometimes a remaster can flesh out beyond the limitations of the original, as I felt Ducktales Remastered was able to do. Even just improving the textures like Beyond Good & Evil HD which mostly helps out letting new people enjoy the game without the visuals looking too dated. So I do not see remasters as pointless. They can gift to a new generation audience something long-time fans had loved and even rekindle the joy back into the long-time fans. Don't let the bias towards just one beloved series be paint a false broad generalization towards so many other remakes/remasters. [I know there are some remasters which I think did not have enough love put into the game like Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix which I felt was a slap to the face to the original.] However, I do see your point if an upgrade is not significant enough, it's practically a GotY/Director's Cut edition, but still not pointless especially if the price is low.

Okay, I've already made some suggestions for a great sale for this coming date night, Microsoft. I need your love. You can make it right. There's still all the costumes for Mass Effect 2 and Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate. It would fit with my hype for Costume Quest 2 which I do intend on buying on the 360. Your Games with Gold offerings for October has my approval. I look for you to seize the moment and make date night one to remember ... opposed to one that's not right (even if it is first cousins).

[EDIT: I too am waiting on Liberation to be cheap, its last discount was not large enough and I figured Ubisoft can go a bit lower]

Thanks for getting back to me with the information. Just have to make sure with a followup question: are you sure the 1000 rewards points are for Halo: Reach instead of Monaco or one of the two X1 GwG? On the rewards website, I have still yet to get any rewards points for this month aside from the 250 for the survey, and I know I've spent the time on Monaco. Now with the theory that the game had to be acquired through the Games with Gold program, opposed to when I got it on discount (yet never played until the game until the reward offer incentivized me to start the game) throws a new caveat which mucks up the possibilities/methods to attain some of these reward points.
Positive. I had previously received the 1000 credits of Monaco and don't own a xbone. And we kinda reached a consensus here about the necessity of downloading the GwG during the promotional period to fulfill that requirement before the 10 hours of playing. Now the doubt is what's up if you already owned the digital version of a GwG. People is working on it. My guess is it would still count as long as you download the game again and play some new 10 hours.

Did you ever play Halo Reach before, even on a disc? I kind of want to try the 10 hour thing with BC2 but I've put in well over 400+ hours into the game before I sold it. That was the only reason I didn't attempt the same thing with Reach.

Nope, never. I will try that with Darksiders 2 since I already own it and have played it, but i think that won't help you for it goes free after Battlefield. But this guy could clear us a lot of doubts eventually:

I haven't seen my Rewards update lately, but i own Reach already digitally and left it on for roughly 10 hours, (a few hours over a span of 3 days), and im waiting on those points to show up. ill leave it on tonight all night to be sure, ill get back to everyone with the results.

True, but majority of next-gen games so far have been 20GB or under.  BF4 is the only one I currently own that's past 25GB.

Assuming Ghosts is a 1 disc game on 360, how does it automatically warrant 40GB on XB1 if it's just a marginal upgrade graphically?

Apparently because of the uncompressed audio files.

Ghosts is actually 2 discs on 360. One is an install disc.

I think Killzone Shadow Fall was going to be something like 200GB but they made them compress the textures.
I'd imagine that most games are huge in total size before the start compressing things near the end of development. Most just don't talk about it.

I was just reading how God of War 3's executable is only 5.3 MB, though the rest of the game is 35 GB on the disc.

Looks like D4 is selling like crap right now.

Less than 10k people bought it worldwide.

from what I understand even 360 games uncompressed audio can be like 30 GBS so before a game is done the size that is leaked is always ridiculous

Damn. =-/

I love my Xbox One but you know Swery is wishing he had released it on the PS4 too. You have to wonder if these studios will continue to give MS exclusives if they can't grow the install base enough to keep up with Sony. But then again MS is richer than 100 Richie Rich's. Throw money at the devs, problem solved.
