Other than moving over all the downloaded game content from the old console to the new, all of the game saves will automagically be available on the new console.

Also, if you plan to get rid of your old console, don't forget to set your new console as your home console. I don't know if these steps works anymore, but here they are from MS's support site: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/game-setup/my-home-xbox

Thanks, everyone. I'm pondering buying a slim or just buying an external hard drive which would be likely cheaper. I miss the days when disc games didn't have to be installed. Nowadays, when you run out of room, you have to decide which games to install and whether or not space would be better served by one game or another. It's a pain.

Unless you want to take advantage of the HDR/ 4k stuff I would say just buy a 2TB+ external and call it a day. Most likely you will get a 7200 rpm external which is actually faster than the internal on the X1 which runs at 5400 rpm so it will be technically still an upgrade! The difference in booting up a game from 5400 -> 7200 is not a crazy difference but just saying so it can help justify the cheaper route! Plus you can always (presumably) use that external on the Scorpio later down the road.

That's a good idea. I'm considering a 4tb drive. I really don't want to have to rebuy a console that I already own since that money is better spent on games!

Agreed. I get new console envy as much as anyone, and I was admittedly looking up 4k/HDR TVs earlier today, but I know that'll pass until the Scorpio rolls around and it would be really stupid of me to buy an S just because of a 7-10% (or whatever) performance increase on SOME games.

As far as external drives, I went the extra mile and actually bought an external SSD, which absolutely DOES make a huge difference in some games. It's not as cheap as a regular external drive and you won't have as much space (unless you are willing to blow your pockets out), but I'm super glad I have it. I ran some tests after I got it, here's the post w/ the results.

I'm in the same boat. I have a 65" Sharp 1080p in the living room and haven't found a good reason to upgrade to 4K yet. When I upgrade, I want to move to a 75" at a minimum. I replaced my original XB1 with a Halo LE at Christmas when Amazon had a killer deal. I sold everything but the console and the brick so the console ended up being less than $150.

I have a 256GB SSD external combined with a 5TB external. I use the SSD for games that have loading time issues, and use the 5TB for everything else. The SSD was $65 last year and makes a huge difference on many of the games. Like you found, less time loading = more time playing.

If the Neo comes out in the next few months, I'll buy it and upgrade my TV during Black Friday. If not, I'll wait for Scorpio and do the TV upgrade next Black Friday. Either way, I'm buying Scorpio on launch day to replace my Halo LE.

 
XCOM 2 has been delayed until 9/27. Same week as FIFA 17, Forza Horizon 3, and Final Fantasy XV.

If you guys are that devastated by the Xcom news you could always buy Breach and Clear which came out this week and is another turn based strategy game, or play Massive Chalice, which is very similar to the Xcom games (although, I don't believe you could take cover in MC). Massive Chalice was gwg and I thought it was very good


Edit. Breach and clear looks like its not turn based any more. Not fully sure how it works. I did grab it, so I'll post some impressions later

Played a bit of Breach and Clear. It's very good. It plays like a twin stick shooter sort of, then when enemies get into range time stops and it switches to a top down view where you issue commands to your squad, once you press the right trigger time starts again until you release it and you can issue more commands. Or if you prefer you can skip the turn based thing and play it like a twin stick shooter the whole time

Preview members get updates almost every day , but no , we only get an official update once every 2 or 3 months.

Just keep it "always on". We don't get updates really often though, we got one with the Slim release but the previous one was like one or two months before

 
An official Forza Racing Championship Season starts next week for Forza Motorsport 6 with 2 different weekly series, Elite and Open.  Each series has unicorn cars available for participants, with other prizes (FM6 DLCs in the Open series, Forza Horizon 3, XB1 S, Elite controllers in the Elite series, grand prize a 2017 Ford Focus).  You need to register on the ESL site to be eligible for prizes, but not for the participation cars.

I tried warframe 3 times and never was able to get into the actual game so I deleted that one. I had to delete gems of war as my backlog waa growing ever higher and that's all I played.

I would also recommed world of tanks It's actually a good f2p game. You can get most of the achievements without paying.

When I logged into my account and went to the tile showing current Gold member deals, it showed "Owned" for Rainbow Six Siege.  I thought it was weird, so I hit the button and it started to install, showing approximately 27GB or so for the total download.  I didn't buy it previously, didn't redeem a code.

I did same with son's account and it showed sale price of $30.00.  Not sure if it's a glitch or what it may be.  Anybody else have this?

I can't speak to Warframe, but that's the exact reason I never tried it. It seems like the game I'd get hooked too. I would throw Battle Islands in that list too. I got hooked for too long on Battle Islands, but stopped when all I was playing was that and Gems.

Gems of War, though, I gotta say I'm currently with you on that addiction. I told myself I'd stop at level 50, but I'm at 56 just playing for fun here and there. I can't seem to put that game down at all. I do agree that it's a very fair game. I've only spent $5 on Gems for some special offer they had because I was interested in a troop being sold.

Is "hot new release" supposed to be a hint that it's Overcooked? Only asking cuz I just bought that and wouldn't want you to waste giving it away to me.

Bought the Evil Within bundle with season pass and got up to chapter three and then while playing suddenly the sound glitched out and I couldn't hear anything but could still play it and I thought "ah, well, that sucks. i guess i need to restart the game" and now whenever I try to boot the game I get to the title menu and it freezes. This is on my new Xbox One S. Actually, The first game I've played on the new system.

Just thought I'd share in case someone was thinking of grabbing it digitally. Now to try and get a refund from support.

Damn man, I'd be heated. I actually held off at the last second on buying it when I got Doom and the other games earlier this week. Think I'll make that a permanent decision.

Did you try a hard reset?

 
I've seen a lot of people running into performance issues with the dashboard after the update - everything is absurdly slow, especially pressing the Xbox button to go to the dashboard, or loading the left-hand menu. It takes at least 5 seconds (and often more) for anything to respond.

This was happening for me but I did resolve it (not that the dashboard is now lightning fast, but at least back to how it was before the update) by doing a console reset. Not a hard reset by holding the button down for a few seconds, I mean setting it back to factory through the settings menu. There's an option to reset while still keeping your games/apps, and it only took a couple minutes to get set up again after the reset was complete.

I had the same issue. Once I found out I could turn off Cortana, and go back to regular Xbox commands, I found the dashboard run perfectly fine.

Was on the phone like an hour. They wanted me to re-download the game and I refused because that's ridiculous so they decided to run me through a bunch of troubleshooting attempts and going to storage and deleting all local saved games fixed the issue and my saved game synced from the cloud so I still have my save.

Would of much rather had the refund because I don't see what's preventing another save file from becoming corrupted but whatever. At least it's fixed for now.

He also mentioned me being in the preview program has no bearing on this, according to him.

Either way good start to owning a Xbox One S!

So you figured out the problem and the game is fixed. Yet you're still upset?

But the game isn't fixed. The game (obviously) causes corrupt save files. For example, what if I'm near the end of the game and the sound glitches out again and I exit and follow the same troubleshooting steps I just followed and it either doesn't sync a working save file or syncs one that is far back in the game?

So, yes, I'm still upset. I don't like spending my money on shit that doesn't work properly.

Am running into a problem with binding of Isaac  after this last update. Every time I play the frame rate drops and stutters every 5 sec or so and lasting for 3 sec each time. Tried hard reboot and deleting the game and re-downloading but still the same. It's the only game that's doing this.

 
Picked Doom II to play co-op with my little brother.

Just a tip for anyone considering Fallout:New Vegas - Amazon has the ultimate edition for $12.88 if you want all the DLC, and don't mind putting in a disc to play.
