Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Well, you gotta give (THQ) Nordic credit for coming up with those silly names for their remasters. "Deathinitive Edition", "Warmastered Edition" and now "Re-Mars-tered Edition".

Gotta make you feel good about that Sea of Thieves.
I don't know, I'd probably say No Man's Sky at launch is better than Sea of Thieves currently. NMS now with all the updates definitely is.

-Fully reworked graphics – Heavily reworked textures and graphic features adding for example specular maps.
-Improved shadow rendering
-Improved Lighting
-Shader & Postprocessing rework
-Native 4k support for the finest up to date mars destruction experience ever

At least it sounds like an actual Remaster. I hate the half-assed ports that some of these games get that end up blocking a BC release. I don't know if I'd re-buy Guerrilla but it is a good game. Hopefully this is a sign that THQ Nordic will actually do something with Red Faction now. I'd love a sequel to Guerrilla that doesn't completely change the gameplay like Armageddon did.

I didn't care about Hellblade overall, but the high praise it's received for audio engineering and spatial sound usage has made me interested enough to give it a go. Plus I'll always give a Team Ninja game a look, additional plus I love the approach they took of releasing at $30 as a mid-level game instead of jacking the price or going barebones.
Just a reminder that Hellblade is made by Ninja Theory, not Team Ninja.

I disagree. Both suffered from lack of content at launch but I think Sea of Thieves is way more polished and still has more to do than NMS did when it came out.

Now the gameplay itself is more divisive with SoT with some people just not liking it, but that’s more opinion than lack of effort on Rare’s part IMO (the content deficit is their fault though).

NMS was just plain boring as hell when it launched. That’s changed massively over time though. So it’s nice that we’re really getting a completely different game than what it was.

Thank you for mentioning that. I had no idea it was releasing at 30 dollars instead of 60. Its even got a little preorder discount right now at 27 dollars. I may day one it at this price.

***Question***
Looking for thought and experiences with eneloop batteries for Xbox one controllers. Is anyone getting more than 6 hours of playtime per set of eneloops on a single charge?

***Background***
So I know some people in this thread use and recommend eneloop batteries for Xbox controllers. They are DoD on amazon so I was considering purchasing and have considered purchasing before.

Currently have some energizer rechargeable batteries I use and they last roughly 6 hours which is about what I would expect based on the battery rating of 2100 mAh and an Xbox one controller rating of 480 mA (under the battery cover).

Based in the fact that eneloop AA batteries are rated at 2000 mAh I wouldn't expect them to last any longer under the same usage conditions.

I generally have vibration on and have a headset and chatpad plugged into the controller. Could possibly reduce power consumption at the controller by switch to a wireless headset. I also know that vibration consumes additional power but who wants to shut off that fun.

CoD MW is now BC.

I did a wingsuit clutch Dixon event in far cry 5 and it got pretty frustrating. Maybe I was doing a harder one but the controls are pretty clunky unless I'm missing something, so making sharp turns isn't really going to happen. I eventually made it, but the wingsuit controls not very good compared to just cause or steep.

Deciding to pull the trigger on Hellblade.  Everyone seems to love it so much, and I have to applaud a 10 percent preorder discount.

But... everyone goes on and on about using Headphones.  Makes me nervous, like I'm not going to do it right...

Can someone explain to me like I'm five:

I have my One X hooked up to my TV via hdmi, but for sound, my X is hooked up to my audio receiver via ARC cable:  Sony STR-DN850 7.2 Channel 4K AV Receiver (Built-in Wi-fi & Bluetooth)

What is the best way for me to use headphones?  Plug them directly into my receiver?  It has a headphone jack.  But would my receiver try to "surround sound" the output - ruining the binaural audio that truly makes this game great?  Is it better to plug into my TV instead, and keep my receiver off - thereby switching the audio from ARC to HDMI?

Also, my headphones are really cheap.  They're like - no brand - bought at a Harris Teeter.  Would those work just fine?  I hope so; I really dont want to buy brand new 60 dollar headphones.  Turns my 27 dollar purchase of Hellblade into a 100 dollar purchase.  "But Rick, you can use those 60 dollar headphones anywhere."  I wouldn't ;)

Hoping some audio heads can steer me in the right direction.

The wingsuit in 4 was a pretty wonky as well. I haven't run into that one yet, but those events are pretty fun so far.

Your stereo system should be good. Technically would get even more out of the sound with 7.2. Should still get the directional audio. Just have it cranked up.

Everyone (ie reddit) keeps saying that Surround Sound isn't as good as headphones for this. Specifically the voices are supposed to sound like they're in your head, like its your inner monologue. And they're whispering, so you REALLY need headphones. Surround sound just will not do. Or so I've heard. I've never played it.

They argued a lot about it over there haha.

Also, I have a toddler and wife with early bed times, so I dont think cranking my audio is an option, anyway. Dad problems. When you have a nice speaker system, but always keep the volume at low...

Shoulda bought a house with a soundproof basement.

It's mostly about being able to hear spatially perceived sound and hearing hushed whispers - even multiple voices at times. Sound is such a big component of this game experience. Generally speaking using just your tv speakers would cause you to loose a lot of the sound experience.

Headphones work - especially those with simulated surround sound of some kind and / or noise canceling - because they provide spatial depth of sound and optionally block out a lot of background noise. The other option is to use a good stereo / home theater setup like you have, provided you can focus on the sound. If there are trucks driving nearby, planes flying overhead, pets raising a ruckus, etc. then this may detract from the audio experience as well.

If you opt for headphones you can just plug them into the headphone jack on the Xbox one controller. That's what I do.

As far as hearing voices in your head. I wear hearing aids and when I walk by that CoD / Destiny display at Best Buy, the one with the two speakers on the floor, that shit is literally in my head. It's the reverse of what it should be. I can't point to where the sound is coming from because it's between my left and right ears. As if all space just collapsed inside my head.

That GS extra 20% bonus (stacked with Pro or Elite Pro if you have it) is good to go digital from some sale items. Just traded Wildlands, Dark Souls 2, Dead Island Collection and Mortal Kombat XL. I’m an Elite Pro but was able to trade all those and have about $10 left over after rebuying digital (full disclosure I decided to not get Dead Island again so I have $15 left over).

Dead Island is a particularly good trade - netting $11.20 with bonuses for Elite Pro and only costs $5 to go digital.

Don't forget that you're trading in three games (DI, DI:R, DI:RR) and only buying one of those games back (DI). Overall, still not a bad deal if you want to trade in the disc and buy all three games digitally ($5 + $5 + $2).

Oh, crap. Didn’t realize that was not the collection that was $5. Doesn’t matter to me. I really wasn’t playing them so decided to remove them from the backlog!

Also meant to say that 20% bonus is just for if you’re buying XBL credit as someone posted earlier.

Dead Island is a particularly good trade - netting $11.20 with bonuses for Elite Pro and only costs $5 to go digital.
Thanks for the tip. I did of this last night. It's even better if you can find the $50 gift pack of Xbox gift cards - only cost $45. So if you trade in games with a base trade value of $32.15 you get $50 of XBL currecy. That's about a 36% savings.

Dammit! I forgot about those $45 packs. The guy at the counter went to grab me a card when it didn’t work with the ones they print on the receipt. If I went and looked, I probably would have gotten that.

fuck!!!

Don't worry. I had to ask them to dig in a drawer because they didn't have any or on the rack. And Dead Island Definitive Edition is in game pass in case your missing any of the included games.

Don't worry, those $45/$50 cards are just a myth anyway.

On the rare occasion that I step foot into a GameStop, they have had them.

Oh well, $5 less for my cheap ass.

I haven't seen this mentioned here today, but Amazon has a DotD on the best rechargeables for Xbox One controllers:

Behold - Eneloops!
What are people using for a charger? I have 8 AA I bought last year from Amazon for landscape lights. Ended up buying new lights so still have the batteries. The only charger I have (which is MIA) is an old energizer which can do 4 at once but is really old.

I recommend also picking up a 4 pack for the branded charger, but they will charge with any NiMH charger. How well they (or any other batteries) charge depends on the quality of the other charger though.

I Don't know why I keep adding these games when I already own most of these games on console and I don't own a gaming PC.
Because that potato of a 'new' computer you find yourself owning two years from now will be able to run these then-8-years old games at 60fps like a knife through hot butter.

2020 you is totally high-fiving 2018 you right now.

( P.S. I say this from experience. I vividly remember not bothering to get monthly Xbox 360 GwG titles when I bought my Xbox One in November 2013 because I thought "well, I'll never want those" ...and then backward compatibility became a thing.)

2020 me is probably replaying Red Faction Re-Mars-Tered edition despite beating it a decade ago and is still questioning why I keep replaying all these damn rereleases.

Will these batteries charge if you plug the X1 controller in via USB? Or does that only work with the play and charge kits?

The Doom 4k update is 2.3GB. I'm downloading it now.[/quote

F yeah! I was wondering if that was ever coming out! Good reason to go back to Hell!

Jesus Christ, you’re buying a game, not a house or a car....I would hate to be in line behind this guy at a restaurant while he weighs his lunch decisions.

Thinking of upgrading from a VCR to an S but don't know if I will see any visual improvements playing on a 22" Dell Gaming monitor (8 Million to 1 High Dynamic Contrast Ratio, Full HD and 6 ms response time).  Any thoughts?  I already have a "current" controller.  But with the GS offer of $175 for my 1 TB VCR, it would be just $75 to upgrade to the 1 TB S that comes with Sea of Thieves.

Thanks in advance!

Skip the S and just go for the X! You won’t regret it!
