Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Ugh, MUA sale ended? All the sales are supposed to go through next week, I was going to buy them before Thursday. more signs suggesting they will be delisted, since this kind of thing has happened before.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Was going to wait until later in the week as well, then noticed it was a deal of the week and not part of the ultimate game sale.

I know very little about No Man's Sky, other than it was panned at its 2016 launch for being over-hyped...but has since turned itself into something (kind of) respectable. Now its coming to Xbox One - and getting a massive update. Its XB1X Enhanced with multiple modes (including an emphasis on performance), supports HDR, and is $50.

I'm in the mood for something different, but I worry that the game is too directionless - even after its updates. Anyone have experience with the game?
There's a fairly beefy story to follow if you want direction that will help you pick up various aspects of the game.

It is $26.99 on PSN with PS+ for the next two weeks (Frisky just posted it over in the PSN thread).

Wow.

I thought that even though the UGS is going on... there'd be a few more titles listed for date night then what we saw.

But nope.  Apparently that's really it.

Seems like a good deal. 2 games for $7.49, especially since it looks like the BC tax hasn’t been added yet. I also can’t recall a “collection” going Games with Gold either, so we might not have to worry about it going free anytime soon.

With that said, I’m pretty sure as soon as I buy it, it will go on sale for cheaper or free. You’re welcome in advance.

For those of you who care, the achievement lists for the Mega Man X collections are out as of 48 hours ago. Much more robust than the original collections, which were limited to "beat the game" mostly. I enjoy chasing achievements for games I love, so I'll have fun w/ this, and it may give me incentive to give X6-X7 a chance (never played X8, either). I ordered from Amazon, should be here this evening.

How broken is it? It’s on sale for $7.49 so was thinking about grabbing it.
https://www.destructoid.com/silent-hill-hd-collection-patch-canceled-on-xbox-360-232781.phtml

They cancelled the last update for the Xbox 360 version that released on PS3.

"Plans for an Xbox 360 title update have been cancelled due to technical issues and resources," announced the publisher. "Understanding the issues some users are experiencing, Konami issued a title update for Silent Hill HD Collection (PS3), which fixed frame rate issues as well as audio-synching and other reported issues. Konami apologizes to any players who are continuing to experience these issues on the Xbox 360 sku. Silent Hill HD Collection is available at retail stores nationwide."

Silent Hill HD was one of the few games I was thinking about picking up. Now that is it bc, I'll roll the dice. Silent HIll is a series I've never played.

Bought Nier at full price and totally forgot to look at mixer to get the $5 back  :bomb:  oh well game is absolutely gorgeous and so much fun to play it hooked me in the first 15 minutes

been meaning to player a silent hill for ages, always had my eye on Shattered memories but may pick up Homecoming since it's BC, any silent hill fans recommend homecoming?

Maybe the BC Team was aware of the issues the SH Collection had on 360 and perhaps they managed to "fix" it to some degree now that is BC? Unrealistic?

I have to watch the videos but they changed a lot of things with the HD collection

SH 2

- Roads are more "clean". Looking at digital foundry and other videos the roads lack the grit that was in the original version.

- Water looks pretty bad when you run into it lol.

- They changed the mile markers on road signs for whatever reason

- Cosmic Sans font lol

- Toned down Fog. Way toned down. This effects visibility as you can see things better vs the old game. Which to a lot of people is bad.

- Lots of "minor" issues in SH2 with graphics and such but they add up. Green tint in some areas, worst lack of detail etc.

- Very, very dark compared to the original in indoor areas. Some might see this as a plus though.

Unless your a die hard SH2 fan or previously beat them you probably wouldn't notice a ton of stuff. Still it has a lot of issues that just add up. However if they make the original SH2 from OG XBox go BC... that's the way to go.

SH3

- Some minor texture issues

- I saw a scene where foot steps sounded awful in one room.

- New voice acting they changed one of the lines of story lol.

-  Firing the uzi has horrible sound effects.

SH3 seems to be the lesser of two evils but I am not sure if that's because people are less critical of it or because everyone goes straight to SH2 over SH3.

Since the 360 version was never patched I don't know about the frame rate issues and such. On the PS3 SH2 was unlocked pre-patch so it was all over the place. I'd imagine the X would brute force a lot of things but I have no idea.

I think for $7.50 I am going to at least use my credit once I can get my 360 to boot up (updates aren't working atm, can't update the 360) and run through Silent Hill 3 one day. SH2 I'll hop they make the OG XBox version BC still I still own the disc.

At the very least throwing my money at Konami will hopefully get use those Metal Gear games to go BC and the Castlevania ones as well.

Said it before, but the SH HD collection is based on betas of the originals because they lost the source code for the finalized versions. The team that made the original also used the PS2 limitations to enhance atmosphere, like blurriness and fog, which take away from the game when given a facelift.

Maybe the BC Team was aware of the issues the SH Collection had on 360 and perhaps they managed to "fix" it to some degree now that is BC? Unrealistic?
There were framerate issues in the unpatched 360 version. It's possible that, much like Bioshock and other titles, BC will allow higher framerates and it theoretically could run slightly better. Theoretically. The audio syncing probably wouldn't be impacted, though?

If the frame rate is unlocked on the 360 for both versions that could be huge even with the issues mentioned above. 60fps SH on the X? Guess I'll wait for VGTech and others to take a look.

Screw it. I’m gonna get the SH Collection anyway. See used copies go for $24.99 at GS. Hopefully it won’t be too bad.

Update on the games grabbed so far

Ori and the Blind Forest- easily one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had and looks beautiful.  I went into the game blind and had no idea of the metroidvania feel to it.  Flying through the story a bit faster then I'm comfortable with but the game really is a blast.

Doom / Wolfenstein II- only started Doom.  First proper time I've sat down and played a Doom game.  Having a blast with it so far- only complaint is that it moves so fast that I feel like I'm playing Unreal Tournament.  But that may just whiplash going from Ori to Doom in terms of game speed.  Excited to start Wolfenstein II and bring down nazis.  I really don't like nazis.

Rise of the Tomb Raider- to be started

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair- grabbed all of the missing DLC.  Now just crossing my fingers that it goes BC

Now just deciding on whether to grab some more 360 games with the hope they go backwards or sit on the remaining credit until the next big sale.

I finally got to Ori and the Blind Forest DE a month ago and loved all of it. Just got 100% a week ago or so.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great game.

I've been wanting to pickup both Doom and Wolfenstein II for Switch for the gyro controls/portable, but the CAG in me is waiting for a sale which seems to never come.

Good pickups!

Well I was seriously considering getting the MUA bundle for $15, but now it's back to $60 - no way I'm paying that, delisting or not.  Oh well.

Very.
On the bright side, this just further improves the chances of MGS 2 & 3 becoming BC. Maybe even the MercurySteam Castlevania games will be BC.
Is MGS 2 & 3 worth the purchase? I've never played a MGS game and the price seems pretty decent in the sale.

I too missed MUA. But I'm sure they'll do another sale if the rumor is true. And if they don't, well, I'll just get it for the PC afterwards.

Beat Hellblade

Everyone needs to get this game and play it!!!

Don't play it without headphones though, they are a must!

$18 is a steal, can't believe this was made by 15 people.

(The combat and puzzles can be repetitive, and it can be a little slow at times for some people but games like this are why I love gaming)

This statement always gets an audible gasp from me and they're great games and you'll be confused by the story and characters regardless so go for it.
Okay, guess I'll be purchasing it. Should I go for Peace Walker as well?

You might as well but keep in mind that Peacewalker was a handheld port and the gameplay is kinda different. You're going to be playing the same levels over and over managing your soldier database etc.....

Still a great game but might be off-putting for some who would enjoy the main games

Okay, guess I'll be purchasing it. Should I go for Peace Walker as well?

Peacewalker I remember as the kidnapping simulator so yes. Yes go get that and kidnap and brain wash people to your heart's content! And once more, don't bother trying to make sense of everything because...well you won't. You're fine just going into the barest of bare concept of "Snek=Good. Metal Gear=bad"

Yeah, just get a PS3 and the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database that will clearly explain everything about the Metal Gear story.
As someone that plans to replay MGS4, I'm fine not getting a headache.

Is that guy from a year or two ago that used to say that the backwards compatibility program would be ending every other week still around? Any updated thoughts?

If you've two hours to kill and are really interested in learning more about the Silent Hill HD Collection's problems, watch Twin Perfect's Silent Hill HD Collection Review Part 1 and 2.

It goes ridiculously in-depth, and it's damn interesting, in my opinion.

I loved SH 2 and 3, but I'm staying away from this collection.

The worst thing about the HD collection is that the atmosphere is supposed to be dirty, blurry, and noisy. Due to working with unfinished code everything is clean and visible so the game loses a lot of its punch. Didn't help that the guy in charged allegedly hated the older games.

I deleted the first one since it has no campaign and the servers aren't very full. You can still find games last time I played though.

I enjoyed 1 a lot despite its faults, and ended up putting 100 - 200 hours into it. The biggest complaint was the amount of content for the price (which is moot now it's now incredibly cheap and the season pass was free). It also received a lot of Quality of Life updates after the backlash which made a significant difference for the better.

I've only played the SP for BF2 when I rented it as I wasn't keen on supporting EA, but caved once they revamped microtransactions and unlocks when the Deluxe edition was $20 at GS. I doubt the MP is significantly worse than BF1's.

I'd offer to play with you guys but.. I got it for PS4.

I’ve thought about getting it because of the campaign I just can’t pull the trigger. It will eventually end up in the EA Access vault and I’ll play it then.
I've enjoyed what little I've played, which is only a handful of hours. I've never had issues finding a game, though admittedly the teams end up lopsided more often than they should be, at least in Starfighter mode or whatever they call it. Always nice to be on the team with more players. As for price, I got it for $4.50 late last year so I feel like I've already got my money's worth. I don't have EA Access, but I've been considering it just so I can play the first Titanfall with my girlfriend. I ended up buying the disc years ago when it was dirt cheap long before I had a console to play it on. Since the digital version is probably never going on sale again ([t's $20) I may as well spend $10 more for a year of EA Access so I can play it and some of the other games I don't already own. So if I wait until BF II hits the vault, I'll have more reason to get EA Access.

Speaking of EA Access, is it ever on sale through MS? Or is it only on sale from third party sites? I've got credit I'd prefer to spend.

Is anyone having problems with the xbox 360 now? I logged on for the first time in months and bought some games, but most of them are now showing as "Download again" but when I click it, it wants me to rebuy the games. I can't even go to "Download History", I get some error message about network connection.

Soooo my Mega Man X collection just arrived, and there's only one disc with the first collection. Packaging states there's supposed to be two discs, but the case is a single disc case. Not happy.

Think the packaging text is wrong? Kind of strange the case would also be for a single disc. Also surprised it would be two. I would think those games would not be huge.
