Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

fuck me. It appears that the Mass Effect 3 I bought on sale was the French version of the game (even though it doesn’t say anywhere on the webpage or the console page). I can’t change the VO option at all.
Don't you mean "baise-moi"?

Seriously that sucks though.

Ancient art of war required specific words from a designated page and paragraph. You had to have the giant manual or you were out of luck.

Wait, I want to know how to say "I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite store on the Citadel" in French. Oh wait, that was ME2. Yeah, you've got nothing good then.

Haha yeah. Apparently, it’s an issue with the game in the Canadian marketplace where it’s in French but it’s not listed like that in the marketplace. It’s posted on EA’s forums as well.

It's one of my most watched movies from back in the day and I used to be able to quote the entire movie, but now it's been a few years since I've seen it so I'll refrain for the thread's sake.
A buddy of mine got married in an outdoor ceremony, and it started drizzling partway through. I turned around to another buddy sitting behind me, a huge Spaceballs fan, and told him, "Stupid rain. Ok, here we go, the short, short version." He nearly had to step out, laughing so hard.

The cycle has shortened for everyone else in the industry: tease a game, announce it, put out a CGI trailer, show a lengthy gameplay demo, start a media blitz, release the game - all done in 9 months or less.
Not quite everyone else, we still have Nintendo.

I've been PC gaming since about 1990, back when floppy disks really were floppy, and 5.25" to boot. Not once did I own a game that required a key until CD's became a thing. Let alone have a code wheel. Guess the games I played weren't that great if they didn't bother requiring a code.
Ah, the days when you could double your storage capacity with a hole punch.

I'm so old I remember writing programs in Basic on a TI-44A and recording them on an audio cassette in a cassette deck attached via a parallel cable. If you wanted more storage you switched from a 60 minute cassette to a 90 minute cassette.

My family's first computer was a Tandy Color Computer 3. At first, it was just hooked up to the TV, IIRC it used a switch box similar to an Atari 2600. Tried to store things to a cassette, but could never get it to work. Then one Christmas my parents got a monitor, floppy drive and printer for it, and TeleWriter 64 to write papers for school. But no games, that's what the Atari / Nintendo were for.

I remember those switches. The forked prongs would always break off and then you would have to twist the copper wire around the screw head.

I had the same but my cassette worked, games for it were mostly trash but I think there was one called "Pegasus" that was just a Joust clone that was actually pretty good.

Phantom Retro Lancer in the Gears stream tonight.

I think my problem with the cassette was connecting it from the headphone jack on the Coco to the mic jack on the recorder.

John Draper, aka captain crunch, was a hacker that was arrested by the fbi for long distance telephone fraud in 1972.
For more information on this for the youngsters

He was named captain crunch because he used a whistle ( its a toy you blow that makes a loud noise) that was found in captain crunch cereal ( a breakfast food item)to hack payphones ( its like your phone in your pocket except it was huge and stationary normally in gastations or public areas. You had to insert money ( small metal coins) into the machine to make it work.

If you were calling someone in a differnt city or country it ( called long-distance) cost you more money to do it.

He used this toy whistle to hack the phones to allow him to make calls for free.

You're welcome.

I know I'm old. This was before my time though. I'm a 80s kid. I just know a lot of random stuff.

The whistle was a free prize in the Cap'n Crunch cereal, hence the name.

Yes, way back when you got functioning toys in your cereal. 1 box, no upcs to collect, no mailing away.

Edit: super ninjaed on that post.

super mega baseball 2 is just super mega baseball, neither are very good, hoping I can get into MGSV so the month isn't a total bust
Haven’t played the second one yet but thought the first one was pretty good. This one seems to be getting decent reviews as well. What didn’t you like about it?

On another note, anyone actually buy Battlezone Gold Editon? Used to love Battlezone back in the day and this looks cool but $31.49 with Gold? Pretty steep.

I’m a hockey guy myself but don’t mind fiddling with a baseball game some (and football).
You should be good then. Its decent if you like baseball ( I was bored to death but that's because I hate baseball )

Its not MLB teams its all made up teams but the game is good. Reminds me of the old super Nintendo rbi games

I' m probably missing it, but is there really no way to buy KOTOR digital and pay with MS credit?  Doesn't seem to be an option for me on the store or webpage...

I still have my Commodore VIC20 with cassette tape data drive. This post probably took up more space than it’s built in memory.

Just pretend it's an alien language to further the whole sci-fi appeal.
I got Halo 3 at Hollywood Video in that $5 clearance sale they had. It was fairly new and I was so excited about the great deal I got. Took it home and started playing. I couldn't understand the alien language voice over in the beginning. After a couple of minutes I started picking up Spanish words being spoken. It was a spanish ONLY disc and the box was not labeled. Traded it in to gamestop for a profit. And don't worry, in the area I lived it found a home where it was needed.

Ancient art of war required specific words from a designated page and paragraph. You had to have the giant manual or you were out of luck.
Leisure Suit Larry required answering questions that "only adults would know" like political and geographical questions. I had a bunch of those decipher wheels for all the SSI goldbox games I had. Who gets that reference?

A buddy of mine got married in an outdoor ceremony, and it started drizzling partway through. I turned around to another buddy sitting behind me, a huge Spaceballs fan, and told him, "Stupid rain. Ok, here we go, the short, short version." He nearly had to step out, laughing so hard.

I was at Best Buy with an old friend that watched that movie with me growing up. I was getting a SNES Classic and it was in a locked case. They were using some digital key that was pressed against the lock to open it rather than an actual physical key. It didn't work. They tried several different methods and keys. Eventually, I go, " fuck , even in the future nothing works." My buddy died laughing, but the teenager just gave us a strange look.

I remember watching that on a beta machine...

Thanks for posting this. I wonder if all of BF1 DLC will go free like BF4 and Hardline?
Wondering the same as they were rolled out one at a time and from what I hear DLC could use more players. The other two games had an announcement, but I haven't seen one this year. I also haven't looked even though I keep thinking about it. Glad I only bought the vanilla on clearance and didn't bite on the SP sales.

Some stuff going on sale...$9 for Just Cause 3 XL is pretty good!

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/just-cause-3-xl-edition/c0gfnldbmlk4
Not sure about the other stuff posted after you, but JC3 is getting the free weekend treatment with coordinating sale.

Phantom Retro Lancer is live in the Gears stream.

Edit : There's a problem with it, they're attempting to fix it.

Edit 2 : They weren't able to fix the quest.  They'll grant it to people that are in the stream in a couple days.

¡Hola! ¡Mi nombre es Master Chief!

For some reason that's how I imagine the game beginning. Then again I may also be thinking Dora the Explorer.

Also, battlefield.com has a news article mentioning the free map pack for a week, but no mention on if more will follow.  It does state that all who log in between April 26th and May 3rd will get ten battlepacks.

Finally got home from the shop, randomly generated google number is 2, sooooooooo Jessstryker (spelling?) you are the winner, pm me the get and I’ll send over the game

May the cheap games always fall in our favor, until next week fam

How did I miss a give away?

Ah well, I’ll be good with the rare Thursday BC announcement tomorrow for Burnout Revenge. 😁

If you like baseball games, Super Mega Baseball 2 is pretty fun. I suck horribly at it (especially pitching) but it’s really a good game. Quite a nice freebie IMO.

Just noticed that Super Mega Baseball 2 is worth 1,000 gs, but TA rates it at 13,023. Either its insanely hard, or nobody likes/plays that game. It'll be statistically interesting to see if that drops by the end of the month.

No Burnout for you. Next!
