Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I have an excel file with worksheets sperated by 360 games, XBLA and X1 games on each worksheet.

I have the games listed alphabetically, with the size and completion status and colour coded for BC games.
I got something pretty similar. Tabs with games owned on each console, and a column if the game is backwards compatible on Xbox. I also have metacritic ratings for most games, the hours from how long to beat, and then mark them when I beat them with the date....

As far as a spreadsheet for your gaming goes, if you have your game collection already cataloged at TrueAchievements, you can export it as a .csv file and you're already most of the way there.

Also, they just added more challenges in Forza Horizon 3. They run until November 2nd. Interesting to them overlap with the release of FH4 for an entire month.

BC not dead

Are xbox one x patch’s dead?

I’m organizing my backlog (yay spread sheets) and I’m likely to lower the priority ofgames that don’t have a X patch. My hope is that they will get a patch.

Is there a pattern? Or rhyme and reason to who gets patches?

Or are their companies that it is safe to assume they won’t make patches for older games? If so I don’t have to wait.
Considering Bulletstorm and Darksiders 1+2 remasters got X patch announcements a few months ago? Your not safe.

However, if you go to the XBox Forum and read my list of PS4 Pro enhanced games that are not enhanced for X you might want to push those titles on your backlog a bit further away. There's a small chance one of those games will become X enhanced. We just got Battlefield 1 X enhanced this week despite the developers being mum on the issue for months.

As for rhyme and reason? It's safe to assume newer games will get X patches, at least the big AAA ones. Not seeing all indie games come out with X patches. Seems to be a lot less common then I hoped but understandable.

I'm still hoping MGS5 get a X patch that's why It's one of the last games I'll touch for now. I also haven't completed MW1 remastered campaign yet.

As for your backlog? Well, at least with the XBox you can create groups and pins. I have all my backlogged 360 games (that are BC) and X1 games pinned that I have not beaten yet.

I waited a year for ME Andromeda to get the X-patch but it never happened. Hopefully Deus Ex Mankind Divided gets it but considering the game's three weeks away from it's second anniversary, not holding my breath.

Thank you. Really helped. Not sure where Xbox forum with your list is. Did I miss a link a few pages back?

As for sheets with backlogs. Fun to see I’m not alone :)

I seem to spend more time staring at the game icons on my dashboard trying to figure out WHAT to play, than actually playing.

Maybe I should add some of these sorting lists in my routine and make it even more meta.

Anyone have the problem? Just not being able to decide what the hell to start?

Anyone stream their X1 to a PC or tablet via Windows 10? How well does it work? All my patients this morning were no-shows and I ended up impulse buying a new laptop to replace my aging one, which is still running Windows 7.

I do it a lot when wife want the t.v i have no problem but my net is 200mbs and im running windows 10

It's a common thing. My son had 2 monster trucks when he was younger and he brought them everywhere with us. He told grandma how much he loves them and she sent him 8 more for Christmas that year. I don't think he ever played with those 10 monster trucks again after Christmas. Having 2 made them unique and special but having 10, now they were in surplus and he didn't know which to play with so he played with none.

Yeah, I'm always stuck trying to decide what to play next after I've finished a game.

Here's how I've been trying to manage it recently. (I don't use spreadsheets.) Anything I am done playing or don't ever intend to play gets hidden in my Ready to Install list. My backlog is anything left over in my Ready to Install list. From that, I pick one or two that I would like to play after I'm done with my current game. I install those to the hard drive, add them to my Pins, and place them at the very bottom. Then I pick from those two when I finish my current game.

I just kind of keep a mental list of my backlog.

Then I play more Rocket League.

I started to get overwhelmed by my backlog and just put it all online so I could manage it.
https://backloggery.com/TheBriefChef

It was a bit labor intensive and not as intuitive as TrueAchievements, but I like being able to manage everything directly.  This is also why I use KODI instead of Plex/Vudu/MoviesAnywhere to manage my film library.

Guys- I'm having a really hard time getting into a single player game.  The genre is one of my favorites and I'm having a hard time justifying the timesink to learn the controls.  Jumping between The Witcher III | DOOMCuphead- I find myself having to relearn the controls.  Which sucks and is probably why I've been playing so much Magic: Duels

How does everyone decide what to play next?
How do you remember the control layout when balancing 3+ different games and styles?

I spend a few hours looking through all the games I have. Decide on one. Play for 10 minutes and go to bed.
:)

The Great Random To Do List Challenge, Member of the Month, and Comunity Challenges over at Zed to Zed dictate what I play in a month. Dictatorships are great to fight decision paralysis.

I've gotten pretty bad about this, having a massive backlog makes it worse. I often just bounce around from game to game and slowly make progress on like 8 games until one manages to suck me in, while usually keeping a few regular multiplayer games in the rotation. Currently I've been playing Skyrim and Pillars of Eternity, testing the waters on Sims 3 and soon Wet for 360 as they were recent pick ups, and I jumped on Tekken 7 for the free weekend. I've also been playing Minecraft more since the Bedrock version feels a bit better now and I want to check out the Aquatic stuff, and slowly chugging through Warframe. Finally, I just heard about new content for the F2P mobile Final Fantasy that is the canon connection from Final Fantasy X to X-2, that has Tidus and Yuna's original voice actors, so I'm downloading the Steam version today.

Even with this overkill play-style, controls have never been too big of an issue for me. Usually I manage to get back to normal within 10 minutes or so. Sometimes if a game is really complicated it takes longer. I also get thrown off if I play something a LOT and switch to something similar. Like I keep hitting the wrong inventory buttons in Minecraft because of the high amount of Fortnite recently. The only advice I have is maybe try and just screw around in one area for a bit before actually diving into combat or whatever when coming back. My bigger issue is if I leave a game for a long time and don't remember what I was doing.

Speaking of Tekken, I blasted through the story last night in 3 or 4 hours, and boy is it a mess. Plenty of cool moments but every voice actor for not actual Tekken characters have some of the worst voice acting I've heard in year, especially the main reporter narrator guy. There isn't much to it gameplay ways. Pretty much a few normal fights and a few survival rounds against a bunch of robots or guards.

So it sounds to me like Tekken 7 a re-skinned Tekken 6 from what you've described of it. Which is fine because now I know I can finish it quickly. I just got a physical copy for PS4 and will fire it up and knock it out of the backlog soon. Gonna use it and whatever else I finish to trade towards my Spider-Man pre-order at GS.

Yay spreadsheet talk! I just recently redid my digital games one. I just track what systems I currently have hooked up. This is part of the front page. No xbox one gold or ps plus games included.

kk9xTkC.png

Hour counts are updated manually and I always forget to update them. Bet you can guess what year I built my pc. Each system has its own page with a per title breakdown. I also have pages for my games of the year and what games I "finish" each year (~35/yr).

I have a achievement list I try to use as a backlog but that never really pans out. I just play whatever I'm in the mood for. Or you know, play around in the spreadsheets.

As for The Brief Chef's control stuff, I think my brain is just broken in the right way to remember all that stuff. At this point I'm switching so much between systems and VR that I hardly ever notice having to relearn how to play things. Only thing that ever messes me up is Nintendo's backward abxy placement.

Love the dollar$/hour calculation. Haha. Do you use this to make management decisions about purchasing and setting budgets? Or just for sh!ts and giggles?

Evful,
that is awesome. I love the stats available from that set up.

I wonder if it’s too late for me to add dollar value. But I think I would start valuing longer games since I know they would skew the dollars per hour calculation.

If you never tried digitally keeping track I highly suggest it. Even a simple list can solve some problems mentioned earlier.

I usually decide games to keep variety going. If I played a long game then I check my list for a shorter play. Also, I like to play newer then older then new. Usually I don’t want to get too comfortable in one thing or get spoiled with certain graphics.

Love the dollar$/hour calculation. Haha. Do you use this to make management decisions about purchasing and setting budgets? Or just for sh!ts and giggles?
Purely for the giggles. If I set a budget I would probably end up spending more than I do just waiting for deals. It also helps keep track of pc games I have spread out through a bunch of services.

Evful,
that is awesome. I love the stats available from that set up.

I wonder if it’s too late for me to add dollar value. But I think I would start valuing longer games since I know they would skew the dollars per hour calculation.

This is hopefully the final version of this list. I've toyed with adding a few other dumb stats but at some point it'll get too silly. The dollars per hour has had the opposite effect for me. Since I have the list broken up by title I end up making sure I put at least few hours into a game to knock down its per hour average. Though It is nice to see the games I have a lot of hours in hit a nickle or less per hour.

SPREADSHEETS?!
SPREADSHEETS!!!

Something tells me doing a spreadsheet and calculations is not going to get me playing more...but you guys do you.

Decision paralysis is the word I was looking for, thanks. Just so much to do. And yes I agree, finally pick one, play for ten minutes, and off to bed.

Lately other then the Forzathon 3 challenges I can't decide what to play or resume next.  I just fire up Netflix or Youtube and play nothing.

Spiderman and FH4 should hopefully snap me out of this.

Didn't tekken 6 have that crazy 3rd person were trying to be some kind of action game? I didn't see any of that in 7. I did knock out all the achievements in 10 hours if someone is looking at it for the Free 2 Play weekend on Xbox Gold.

Anyone stream their X1 to a PC or tablet via Windows 10? How well does it work? All my patients this morning were no-shows and I ended up impulse buying a new laptop to replace my aging one, which is still running Windows 7.
I don't use this function as much now that Xbox Play anywhere is a thing, but without a doubt a physical network cable connection between your Xbox>Router>PC is the best experience. I rarely run into any streaming compression artifacts or noticable latency at the highest streaming setting.

Wireless performance is good, but it will depend on your router and environmental conditions. Worse case you could drop the quality until you see accepible results.

This is on a Windows 10 gaming PC that I built. Your new laptop should be able to stream just fine as it doesn't take much power to stream video.

Anyone else having a problem getting Resident Evil 1 digital to play on Xbox One? I am sure I have done all the steps and it is not working, maybe it is not just me.

Could anyone with the game start it up and see if the game gets to the menu?

My copy I bought from that glitched Resident Evil bundle awhile back still works just fine.

Yup, Tekken 6 had that (strange) wannabe a 3rd person action game for the story mode. Had to fight your way through bots and fighters before taking on the boss in each level. It was generally annoying and one time I don't think I finished the story mode in because of it. Outside of that is was fun to play overall.

I seem to spend more time staring at the game icons on my dashboard trying to figure out WHAT to play, than actually playing.

Maybe I should add some of these sorting lists in my routine and make it even more meta.

Anyone have the problem? Just not being able to decide what the hell to start?
Just narrow it down with the groups feature now. Throw 2-3 games you're currently playing into a single player group, and when you log on play one of those until you either beat 1 or decide you don't like it and just replace it. Also make sure all the slots aren't open world RPGs that take 150 hours to finish.

Anyone have any trouble with true achievements on mobile? It won't display the game half the time except for the header and footer.

Wanted to look at roundabout achievements. Tried it out on gamepass. It's a fun goofy game but wouldn't want to pay more than a few dollars to own it. Decided I didn't like it enough to want to 100% it. Especially after seeing one of the achievements was to play one of the challenges for 8 hours straight.

TA is not formatted for at all for mobile, I think one of the perks of their pro subscription is a mobile version

I was gonna grab either Sonic Mania or Celeste but I guess those are gonna have to wait. The Dead Cells hype is real... I can't find anybody talking negative about it and $5 off pre-orders had me bite. If It's so good maybe double dip on that Switch cart someday. Looks like Shenmue 1+2 and Deadcells for me this month.

I waited a year for ME Andromeda to get the X-patch but it never happened. Hopefully Deus Ex Mankind Divided gets it but considering the game's three weeks away from it's second anniversary, not holding my breath.
Mass Effect team last I knew was a skeleton crew... but they are supposedly working on Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Dragon Age seems a given considering how well Inquisition sold. I believe the team behind Deus Ex actually shot down a X patch on twitter but I don't have links or proof of that the moment. Maybe I am recalling incorrectly.

Thank you. Really helped. Not sure where Xbox forum with your list is. Did I miss a link a few pages back?

As for sheets with backlogs. Fun to see I’m not alone :)

Yeah I got a list there. 42 games that have Pro enhancements but no X enhancements. Keep in mind the list is much larger for PRO vs X but your counting PSVR and Sony exclusives obviously.

At one point I counted several indie games that had Pro patches or ran better on Pro, but when factoring in the X performance and such I removed them. Obviously if a game has a better resolution and frame rate then It's better on Pro. There are several games like Torment Tides of Numera that have better shadows/particle effects... so games are slightly better on Pro but not by a substantial amount. I could use a CAGers help to point out more games that got Pro patches this year but no X patch. Last big game I know of was Dragon's Dogma.

Edit: Went through the Pro list again. Found 20XX is 4k, Human Fall Flat is 4k and a few titles with HDR on Pro and not X. 20XX just came out so that's a recent one. Most recent one I could find.

edit: I guess that's different now, or a perk for TA pro? been awhile since I checked

I would count the chances of an Activision game looking better on the One X next to a PS4 pro about zero since they are deeply in pocket together like they were with MS in the 360 days. It was only months ago they used to trot out that Luke Smith dude that you never hear of anymore about Destiny 2 saying the One X can't run it at 60fps because stuff. Tekken 7 actually looks pretty awful on the Xbox One X so I wondered if that was a gimp or just the way it was, it used to be a graphical show piece, so thanks for the headsup.

Folks talking about having trouble deciding what to play next and staring at all the game icons makes me think about when I learned about the psychology of 'too much choice.' Businesses think people want as many customization options, as many choices, as possible, but our brains reach a point where too much choice is overwhelming and we become mentally paralyzed by it.

Really good article:

I think about being really young and only having ~5 NES games, and it was easy to always decide what to play next. 200 games installed? I stare at the screen too.

Yup. Basically me. I end up not playing anything and watching Netflix instead

One of the things about a simple list is I have less decision paralysis.

I scan through list, maybe reprioritize. But if I can’t find any for sure “next game” I play the one at the top. I put it there for some reason.

I figure I bought the game for a reason. Either play it or play it enough to know I don’t want to play it. Then I move to a “not my cue but either trade in or revisit” list.

Thinking about getting a sound bar to go with my TCL and retiring my clunky audio receiver, since I originally bought it for managing multiple component video inputs, and now basically everything I use is HDMI. Can anyone recommend a good one? Preferably with a sub for around $100. Don't need anything top of the line, just good enough.
