Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Is there a way to have two Xbox 360s on the same Xbox Live account? My primary 360's hard drive and its external hard drive are full, and I have a second one that would like to download Assassin's Creed and a few other games to since I have Games With Gold. I have two PS3s on the same PSN account, so I think it wouldn't be out of the question for Microsoft to follow Sony on something like this.

You can have your account on both, but not play online with both at the same time. You can only have your licenses tied to one 360 at a time, meaning whichever one is tied to your main account will both be able to play digital games while offline, and have those games playable on other accounts.

You'd have to use cloud storage if you want to have your saves sync up, but it sounds like you'd be playing different games on them. If you're just using them as separate storage, just make the one that will be online less your Home Xbox that the licenses are tied to. If you are normally online all the time with both consoles, it doesn't matter which you use as much, unless you intend to play multiplayer games with both at the same time.

Thanks. I have an Xbox One on the same account, so I don't know if that makes a difference, but I'll try to see if I can use the other 360. If not, Black Friday is right around the corner, and I might be able to swing another external HD.

Throwing Xbox One in can be a bit weird. If you're playing Xbox One games and not BC 360 games, you can have your main account signed in online on it and a 360 at the same time. If you switch to BC 360 games, then all the stuff in my previous post applies as though you are on an actual 360.

I'm not sure what it does when you play an Xbox Prime game. It might be the 360 rules but since it doesn't actually give you the 360 interface I'm guessing it works like an Xbox One game.

Generally swapping around between consoles isn't too bad if you have internet or multiple accounts you're working with across them. I used to do LAN stuff pretty often so I had to figure out the digital license nonsense pretty well. I'm sort of building up to having a semi-permanent LAN setup for 360 Halo (and Gears and whatever) in my house, but not looking forward to managing 16 accounts in the future to have all the games updated, with DLC downloaded.

ahh yes

I'm in that sweet spot of having missed it when it was free on gwg, bought it after because "it won't be free again", and now it's free again

I assume Crackdown is part of X018, any predictions before it starts? I'm calling it, Sunset Overdrive 2. I will continue calling it at each press conference until it's real.

I don't know, Insomniac might have their hands full with Spider-Man 2 that is certainly happening. If anything, I bet the looming PC version of the first game has something to do with the Game Pass PC expansion, with an X enhancement as a nice bonus.

Other than that, maybe a teaser for Playground's RPG. Some ID@Xbox games. Free Crackdown likely means a big blowout for Crackdown 3. Maybe something from the newly acquired studios if any of them had something cooking before acquisition. If the Obsidian deal did go through this would be the time to announce it. Maybe some more details on Halo Infinite or the upcoming show.

New (ish) job has me going out of town at least once a month for 2 nights at a time. Contemplating a spare, cheap 360 to keep myself occupied since the X1 is so picky about being logged online if it's not the home console.
However, I assume that only matters for digital games? Could I play offline on a non-primary console with my XBL account, as long as it was a disc? I know the 360 will do this fine.
Also, travel cases seem few and far between (and expensive). Can any fellow nerds offer suggestions to this gratuitous plan?

I second the use clothing as padding method since it's only a few days a month. If you do want a case though, I'd suggest a pelican case. They're a bit pricey but are worth it. I use one for camera equipment while traveling for longer periods where I can't spare the duffel space and it's been great.

lol, apparently the PS1 Classic is using a free, open-source emulator. Get the same experience right now for $100 less. This guy makes some good points about it being cool to see a fan made emulator be used in an official capacity, but it still seems lazy to me. Microsoft and Nintendo have both but effort and/or resources into making great emulators that can enhance the experience, while Sony cheaped out on another aspect of this product and just used already existing tech they never worked on and put it into a nice looking box, profiting off the free emulators they've tried to shut down in the past. He has a pretty unique perspective on the top, he works at Digital Eclipse which did a lot of tech wizardry with some of the compilation games like the first Mega Man Legacy Collection. He had an interesting GDC talk about emulation and interesting ways it can be used beyond just playing the old games.

Eurogamer is saying there are not any screen filter options like the other classic consoles, and that it's laggy.

On the subject of Square Enix screwing stuff up, the Comrades dlc for FFXV will be taken offline, killing 12 achievements.

https://www.trueachievements.com/n35137/ffxvs-comrades-dlc-to-release-standalone-in-december-dlc-version-discontinued
I tried it during beta and thought it was OK, but it didn't seem very deep. I think it's only monster hunts right? I wonder how the player-base is, it most be alright (probably only on PS4) if they think this is a good idea. I can't imagine they'll sell a ton of DLC or whatever but SE seems to love the "whale" business model on mobile so I guess it could apply here.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I might as well try to finish this game that I bought 2 years ago. I think I barely got to chapter 2.
According to TA just the comrades DLC will take around 40 hours.

Reminder that several Just Dance games will lose servers in a few days.

Just got my X thanks to that Google Pay deal! Is there anything I need to know about switching over from my OG box? We got a CAG handbook for that?

Are you flying?
I presume so since you asked for a travel cases and unlikely you'd need a special case for driving.
I used to take my 360 with me.
I placed it in a duffle bag and padded it with my clothing. Took it as carry on and never had an issue. Did this about five times so 10 flights.
TSA thought it was weird but they didn't overly care.
Not flying usually, no. But I know there have been cases designed for travel that allow you to hook things up without removing everything from the case etc so I figured I'd ask. If I do all this, it will probably stay in the trunk of my car unless I'm using it, but I suppose a cheap duffle bag would get the job done.

Thanks all to the input on multiple consoles and accounts, and hotel gaming. I will check the TV where I normally stay and see if it will let me switch inputs, otherwise this would be pointless.

I had zero interest in this before, but if I had pre-ordered it, I'd certainly cancel now.

Yeah. One of the reasons I wanted the SNES Classic is to use an official emulator, after seeing how well SNES games ran on the N3DS, along with Nintendo's official distribution for old games being limited and unreliable. Emulation is of course an option, too, but the price and quality of the Nintendo systems made them easy purchases.

PS1 emulation is not hard, and if you have a PS3, you can run PS1 discs or buy/download just about any PS1 game you could possibly want. $100 for a PCSX box, freeware I could run on my laptop, without any known ability to add games, is kind of absurd.

Out of curiosity, where do I download ps1 games now? Emuparadise doesn't have them anymore and I don't trust other emulator sites for their games.

If you have movies anywhere check your email. Just received a code to redeem 3 movies. Happy Feet, Fast & Furious 8, and The Martian.

If you were going that case route you would be better off just getting a Switch. Last I saw those cases were expensive as hell.

If there is one thing we're not supposed to discuss on CAG I'm pretty sure it's where to directly pirate games. But I imagine if you were to Google "PS1 ROMs" it would likely be the very first result. Other than that, there are probably full library ISO sets on torrent sites somewhere.

That's a great way to get yrself banned from the site, they (CAG powers that be) don't allow discussions of where to acquire such things. Google is yr friend though.

lol, apparently the PS1 Classic is using a free, open-source emulator.

On the plus side that’s a pretty good sign that people will be able to easily hack it. Though I’ve decided I’m just going to buy a raspberry and play with that. I hope they sell the controllers separately.

I'd go the legal route which I do and still think is best overall for ps1 which is (if you don't want to yard sale up the actual old system and games) just buy them shits for ps3 for 5ish bucks a piece (cheaper on sale) digitally

graphics suck and the controls are awkward and clunky just the same as they were in their glory days

a lot of the major games are on the ps3 now digitally and for very little money per game you can easily add them to the collection and most play just like I remember.

Even the PSTV is a good option. That’s what I have. Though I got it for $35 when they were on clearance. Now they ain’t that cheap.

https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1025679-fortuna-update-240/

Warframe had its giant Fortuna update release on PC last night. This won't be on Xbox for a little while. Updates tend to lag about 4 to 6 weeks. Details in the link, if you want to be ready to jump in when it does release, just make sure you get to Venus on the star chart. This is pretty early in the game so it's easy enough to get to.

Basically this is a massive expansion adding a second, much bigger than Plains of Eidolan open-world to explore. For Destiny players, it's like adding a full blown new planet and all the activities associated with it, think about it like D1's Dreadnaught location that was added during The Taken King. New everything: story, quests, weapons, bounties, vendors, Mods, customizable companion class, more fishing, conservation hunting, a new customizable weapon type. They also added Hoverboards, which seem to be their riff on Sparrows. A new Warframe came along with the update too, Garuda. There are a lot more additions, tweaks to existing things, and quality of life updates.

Gamepass is once again 1$ for a month, the MS Reward quest that was subscribe and get 5,000 points is gone from the Xbox app though. I thought it ran for a few more days but I can't remember for sure.

I kind of regret jumping on the 6 months for $30 sales that have happened before (I bought 3). At the rate I'm playing games *now*, I could probably just make do with these promotional offers for $1/month every time they come up and call it a day.

Well thanks to the gamestop pro weekend sale I was able to get a xbox 360 for nothing. It feels like it's been a looooooooooooooong time since I've seen the 360 dash and store.

Bought all three Mass Effects. With MS CREDIT! I feel silly that it's come to this. At long last I can get 360 on sale again. Got a 60 gig hard drive with it for shits and giggles so I'll probably play some non bc stuff now. Time to find something new to complain about.

Edit:

Bought Frontlines too, because fuck it. BC PARTY!!!

Only bought a couple Taco Bell boxes to try to win that platinum X but nada so far. I think the free code starts Monday. But I think I may snag that AAFES Veterans Day Sale Xbox One X with PUBG for $379 no tax and free shipping, for military folks. Been busy with my Pro lately, just completed Zero Dawn and now working on Spider-Man, and I think once I upgrade my 7 Eleven Xbox One VCR I won years back to an X, I want to tackle the Xbox backlog. I’ll watch X018 and it may push me to upgrade sooner than later, we shall see.

This is what i've been doing, only subbing when it's $1, and they do it very regularly. It's enough to play all the games in there that interest me.

There are a number of hotels that have "gaming rooms" the last few I stayed at had one and nobody showed up the whole time I used it...

maybe research this? I've never had a problem loading my GT and downloading whatever game I wanted on these random Xboxes...but was sure to remove myself when I was done.

If the PSTV accepted standard memory options I'd buy one immediately. Paying a premium for Vita memory cards to use on a PSTV (esp. with size limitations) makes it a harder sell though. Supposedly there's a hack to use USB storage.

The mode was a success so they are shutting it down!

I love chasing achievements, but in cases like this I sometimes wondoer why I even bother.
Pretty crazy they went from green-lighting a whole new season of DLC due to the game's success to canceling it and shutting down the online mode they sold for $20 piecemeal.

Hmm. I'll look into it. Confirmed the TVs where I usually stay will let me switch to HDMI. There are ethernet ports too, but I don't think the 360 can access hotel landing pages to get set up for actual net access. The X1 might be able to? Internet access wouldn't be a priority but it would be nice.

Gamestop selling 360s for $40 sure makes this seem more and more like a good idea.

CBBB? Cowboy BeBop B? Does the extra B stand for BYOBB and is that extra B a typo?

And any series in general outside of movies that aren't a major distributor outside of Paramount isn't going to work with Movies Anywhere.
Sorry, hahaha yeah I questioned it too...

I guess I was unnecessarily using it for the BOY part. :)

(So many negatives...) I guess that means I wouldn't be able to play CBB on my Microsoft movies too...

If anything give them time. Funimation (the distributor of Cowboy Bebop) usually has sales that are the same on all platforms and around Black Friday time for Microsoft digital stores is more often when they'd put a deal up on that along with other random anime possibly going for free.

Thanks. Yeah I've seen it on sale a few times on Microsoft but never jumped on it.

Not super familiar with the show just remember catching a bit of it (and really liking it though I've never been a huge anime person)

back in the day on AdultSwim while I stayed up for SpaceGhost and Sealab...back when the world made sense :)

I would have started buying way more cheap TV shows if they weren't locked to certain platforms. Amazon is the easiest to access from web browsers and devices, so it's been my go-to.

I'm totally sold on Movies Anywhere though. Getting cheap UV codes and then being able to download them offline in iTunes makes traveling pretty great. Plus, I like having things, but I hate having stuff that takes up space, especially movies which I'm unlikely to watch more than once every 1-5 years.

Bebop is one word, and so is cowboy, so I think it'd actually be CB.

The One does now go to landing pages, but that's from a fairly recent update, I think.

Not as sure on 360 access ...

I thought the option to access landing pages was added in a recent update. Either way, I have used MAC cloning to access hotel wifi for a long time now.
