  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

When does BC stuff usually go live?

Also, for anyone playing Sniper Elite 4 be warned: If you're looking at collectibles in the main menu, there's an option that clears all the collectibles you've found in a stage. I thought it was an option to mark them all as "read" but whoops.
Usually around noon EST, shortly after the official post goes live. If it doesn't work, may need to reboot the console to pick it up.

Not that it would really makes sense to start there, but I'd guess XIII-2 will look the best with the enhancements. Lightning Returns has kind of lower quality world design, I think partially for story reasons but primarily because it was made quickly.
I'm incredibly curious to see if any effort was made on XIII. It's installing now and I see that the file size is a little bit smaller than the PS3 version but almost twice the size of the original 360 version.

Interesting. Maybe they took the time to swap out the crappy compressed 360 fmv for the 1080p PS3 video?

Well, the game is far from finished. This 100 meg placeholder is standard for pre-orders. It will download the full thing when it's available.

I’m assuming this is a placeholder so if you are set to auto update everything then it will download the rest when it is ready.
yeah i was guessing we wouldnt be able to download the whole game seeing how it comes out in feb.

This post is for awareness. Charity bids for habitat for humanity on custom designed Fallout 76 helmets from street artists.

Unless they figured out something new I don't think they'll have the better FMVs for Final Fantasy. Since they don't touch the code I don't think it would be possible to pack them in separately now and get them to play in place of the low quality ones.

I'm sure the 3D renders and battles will look nice, they still look pretty good on original hardware. XIII was at least a very pretty game.

What's going to look awful is the highly compressed FMV, the 360 version had them shrunk to hell to fit everything on 3 DVDs, while the PS3 didn't.

https://thegameawards.com/awards/

Game Awards nominees if anyone cares, you can vote this time which I don't remember being a thing before. Maybe sponsors are becoming an issue with the nominees.

-The same 5 or so games are nominated for way too many categories.

-The art direction category really needs split between creative and technical. I really don't think it makes sense to compare Assassin's Creed and Red Dead to games like Octopath Traveler.

-Some questionable inclusions make me think they were having trouble coming up with nominees for categories. The Arcade Edition of Street Fighter V under fighting game? Life is Strange 2, Episode 1 specifically because that's all that is out? Destiny 2 Forsaken qualifying for best action game and multiplayer instead of ongoing game only.

-Like a third of the categories are esports for some reason.

So I can confirm that FFXIII is a low-effort "enhanced" edition. CG cutscenes are still compressed, and all the menus and text are horribly low-res. Actual ingame graphics are sharp though. I honestly wish they just ported the PC version over.

The Arcade Edition of Street Fighter V under fighting game?
Arcade Edition is just the subtitle for the newest version of Street Fighter V. It's still one of the biggest fighting games out there.

It's still just an expansion for the original game. Receiving a new retailer release doesn't make it a new game. I don't think it should be there any more than the Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2, and the other nominees are brand new games. If anything it should be under Ongoing Game I guess. It's not like it really had a chance under either category.

For one it is indeed a fighting game, so it being under the Fighting category makes sense. AE was more than just an expansion, as it was a major overhaul of the entire game to the point where most people acknowledged the game as finally being a complete package instead of it feeling like a beta version. However I think we'll have to agree to disagree on its inclusion.

Overwatch update out now. 19.52 gigs for some reason. Includes buffs for Mercy, Symmetra, Reaper, and Roadhog, though the main attraction is the new character Ashe that was announced last week.

Look at these comparison shots.

This looks like a pretty big difference to me. I saw the intro video on resetera and it looks a crap ton better then the 360 version. EvilBoris has claimed they put in different FMV files for the cutscenes but I guess we'll have to wait to see what digital foundry says. Or at least he gave the impression that it's possible.

I mean, when you say low effort you are implying no effort? If X enhancing every title was easy I'd assume MS would have done it already for every title. It's up to the publishers ultimately and I don't see them replacing all the files with higher quality assets. That would in a sense be a remaster, which they can charge everyone $40-$60 down the road and we all know how Dark Souls remastered turned out. Sure, 60fps vs 30fps but also $0 vs $40.

Tempted to blow $16 on a digital version but I know they will be on sale soon enough. I believe Lighting Returns was on sale multiple times as was FF13-2.

Those shots are in-game save for the first, and yes it does look good. What he's not showing is how awful the menus and text look. However playing it on a 4k tv I can definitely see compression artifacts in the opening cutscene.

Shame about the text but at this point *shrugs* looks great to me.

Really curious how the frame rate holds in the final game. I remember it being a mess.

Text looks fine to me. It's not razor sharp but it doesn't really look blurry to me. They definitely improved the FMVs, even if they aren't 4K. Hopefully Digital Foundry deems this worth a video analysis, though I think that will take at least a few days.

Pre-rendered FMV in XIII

After reading the Resetera thread, it sounds like they replaced the 360 FMVs with the ones from the PC version, which were re-rendered at a higher resolution for the PC release. That would explain the increased file size for the download on X1.

If this is true (and sounds like it), I'm surprised Square-Enix or MS aren't talking about it more, this may be the first time a digital BC release for the 360 had parts of the game altered or fixed, and not strictly an improvement via more powerful hardware.

You have to remember that FF XIII ran at 576p (or around there) compared to 720p for it's sequels. So using the 3x3 upgrade, it wouldn't hit 4K.

However, Resetra suggests that the videos may have been replaced for FF XIII to be higher quality.

not a fan of FF but the screenshots look great!

from a normal viewing distance, even the text should look fine

I swear there was something about Oblivion ticking a few extra effects in the engine, like plants blowing in the wind or something. Maybe by a safe file trick or something along those lines knowing that engine.

I'd guess Square did as much as they're going to. Even if we're getting late releases now, I think it's just them looking at easy was to make money with somewhat minimal effort, and they still view Xbox as a pretty minor platform. Though I'd guess this is largely because it's pretty much zero percent presence in their home country. I mean, they did send the guy in charge of the franchise to X018 and have him announce it at least, even if it was tacked on to the Kingdom Hearts showing. Who knows with Microsoft, I feel like they don't generally push X enhancements outside of the basic announcements or brief mentions during press conferences.

No other site I’m on has so many people complain about off topic posts, if it wasn’t for this thread I wouldn’t even come here anymore cause of the bitching.
I frequent reddit communities and a judo forum, neither of which have fast food discussions in the middle of a dedicated thread. Maybe the community is better at reporting off topic comments to mods to delete, but I'd bet if 1-2 people cared to report posts even this thread could clean up.

When I first migrated from SD, I used to ask people to stay on topic so I could know that an update to the thread was a relevant deal or at least some gameplay impressions. I've just accepted now that this thread has a few people that refuse to acknowledge that they could discuss off topic stuff in threads dedicated for such on this very forum, let alone venture out into the great wide web of internets. This could all change given a week or so of a NARC reporting posts to mods, but I don't care enough to spoil people's fun. I really don't want to read about people's sick family and martial problems on a video game message board, but I'm not so heartless as to report those posts to mods. It would be nice if I could just enable notifications and check into this thread for deals rather than having to keep it open all the time so I can quickly scroll past the filler.

TL/DR: If off topic discussion bothers you, report it to the mods and it will stop. Whining in the thread will just piss people off and make them double down on their bad behavior. (Dollars to donuts this post is more inflammatory than motivational, but I don't care much to actually fix this thread)

I had been looking at early impressions of MYZ and was on the fence about buying, but now I can just play it at launch with gamepass. I really blew off gamepass at first because I have such a large digital library already, but the occasional new release pretty much pays for the service. Plus it allowed me to switch up how I game share without completely leaving my bro and his kids in the dust.

Come on Bloomy, you know you want to put Overwatch on sale for BF. Come on, do it. Do it!

Should I even try the FFXIII trilogy on XB1 or just stick with the PS3 versions? I've got both(grabbed the 360 versions from a 4 for $10 GS sale this year) and just curious which one would be best looking.

spyro reignited trilogy disc install is 36gb and the update it needs is 42gb smh.
That's because Ripto's Rage & Year of the Dragon are not completely on the disc. There's some levels on the disc, but that update includes most of those 2 games. Don't know why it got delayed when it still doesn't have those two completely on the disc too.

Yep, this is definitely an odd thread in those regards. But if off-topic posts in the XBL Deals thread is wrong ... well, then I don't want to be right.

Overwatch update out now. 19.52 gigs for some reason. Includes buffs for Mercy, Symmetra, Reaper, and Roadhog, though the main attraction is the new character Ashe that was announced last week.
Looking forward to a new character. May pull me back in for a bit but not sure with so many new games out now. Any word on whether the winter event will have any changes or are they still focusing solely on character changes than new game modes?

This isn't SD though. In however long I've been on this site I don't think it was ever just deal discussion on any board. If anyone really wanted just the XBL deals they could load up store parser and check the price changes. No need to go to any thread for that. Heck if any deal forum was really truly no off topic, then they would all be a post or two long. No need to post how many you got of something or say how great of a deal it is or that shipping kills it.

The thing that makes this a forum is people caring enough about the people who visit it to key them into deals and savings. If all someone is looking for is the deals there are plenty of places they could go. Hell, Major Nelson posts them all a few hours after they go up here. No comments or OT on his site. The OT is what makes this forum worth visiting. Getting opinions about the games on sale and the deals and little glimpses into the lives of the others here is what makes a place like this stand out among the dozens of just deal sites or blogs.

I'm excited for the Roadhog changes, although the Reaper changes make me nervous, he was already hard to kill as Roadhog, now if he is healing even faster I'll really stand no chance against Reaper.

Lately I can usually tell as soon as my team picks heroes on if we will win or lose. If the first four automatically pick 4 DPS heroes, I already know we are losing.

When I joined back in the olden days, it was a lot of fun to kinda chit chat back and forth a bit in any thread. Gave it a sense of community without "thread police" fixating on every post but even I see where some of these posts get crazy. Fun banter is a-ok with me, especially when someone posts a memorial to Stan Lee

I mostly agree. If folks only/strictly want deals, there's SD, Twitter feeds (CAG, Wario64), dedicated Reddit forums. I keep up with the thread for deals but also because I find it pretty entertaining most of the time in addition to being frugal. We all know when the usual sale go live (Monday nights, special sales like upcoming BF). There's more personality here, and it doesn't bother me, except for diatribes. If people discuss a big new movie on a slow day, go for it, as long as we save the political manifestos for literally anywhere else.

I'm sure nobody cares, but I got my scorpio X back from warranty repair. Red Dead 2 no longer puts my fan in jet turbine mode!
I had to send mine in when it went black screen of death on me from over heating

I didn't know watching WWE PPVs and downloading games i'd never play could do so much damage

Same. I've been coming to this thread for the discussion on everything. The decreased toxicity is also great. And I'm also a fan of keeping politics off the board. I've got reddit.com/r/politics for that
