Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

All I can do is laugh...

It's been over 3 years since Microsoft announced a new IP and this is what they give us. Yikes indeed. Doesn't give me much confidence for all the other new acquisitions if they're gonna be forced into making multiplayer games. Yes, I know this was in development for 4 years, but there's a reason why they couldn't find a publisher for it until Microsoft bought them.
Top comment on single player games: Multiplayer when?
Top comments on multiplayer games: Tacked on, publisher mandated, cash grab, etc.

Never mind that by far and away the games with the most "engagement" are multiplayer. Whether that's microtransactions, reddit posts, twitch streams, hours played, player retention, purchase tail (life after launch), etc. Publishers see that's what people play the most, talk about the most, and they make the most money on. Developers want their giant worlds to feel lived in. Consumers want to play with their friends.

I know I get a little twinge whenever I see Cyberpunk 2077 talking about creating a living, breathing world. Ya, populated by NPCs. I wonder if I can still drop a bucket on their heads like Skyrim to rob them blind?

I'm happy to see focused development, whether that's single or multiplayer. Tacked on campaigns are barely worth the time and tacked on multiplayer modes are generally pretty weak. We'll get our Hellblade 2 or whatever else NT is cooking up.

I keep eyeing that Sega Genesis collection, I think that might be better then buying that mini console coming out. I’m not sure that I need another plastic console even if it is just a mini.
I sure do wish the Sega Collection they released had Tetris and Mega Man. Can't blame them for keeping those fancy exclusives to push their device but damn it, it's not fair

The last two movie 4K bundle (Spider-man: Homecoming & Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse) ported into MA as 4K with no issues for me.
Thanks for the confirmation.

Me toooooooooooo.

But at $24, I can resist the temptation.

I would love to see the PS series (and other Genesis RPGs) get a remaster, but that will NNNNNNNever happen.

I never understood the backlash to their DmC reboot. I really liked that game and got pretty good reviews as well.

Heck, I see 86 on Metacritic. Devil May Cry 5 has an 87.
DmC is one of my favorite action games and no one will ever change my mind on that.

It's shocking how some people here think Ninja Theory is being forced to make a multiplayer game.

MS acquired them one year ago. This game would have already been in development by then for it to have an alpha in June.

I finally figured out that this thread is best characterized by the American chopper theme. I would post one but don’t care to do the whole mobile tango. But topics spring up and start out civil but quickly turn into someone yelling and fighting. Classic Xbox deals!

Hmmm..wouldn’t personally say Venom is a “scary” movie but it probably would be for a 3-year-old. Know I wouldn’t let a 3-year-old watch it.
Personally I think allowing a 3-year-old to watch any PG-13 rated movie is a terrible idea.

$17.99 right now in the sale.
You're right! I clicked on the link in Major Nelson;s post showing 40% discount and just assumed the price was $24 (MSRP of $40) when it is actually $18 (MSRP of $30). Guess which number got stuck in my head...

Haha, I have no problem with opinions. If you say “Microsoft has a lot of first party multiplayer games and lacks in single player first party compared to Sony” I agree with that. If you say “Microsoft forces its first party studios to make multiplayer games” with no links to articles or nothing to back up that claim then yeah I’m gonna call that out. It’s all good though, I don’t dislike or hold any ill feelings. I call out my real life friends on bullshit too and we argue it over, arguing isn’t a bad thing :)

I have yet to see any evidence of "Microsoft gives their studios 100% freedom to make single player only games" either. Point to all the PR interviews you want, actions speak louder than words. I won't be convinced otherwise until a Microsoft first party studio finally releases a single player only game with no multiplayer.

Looks like Bandai Namco's entire E3 lineup just leaked. Expect all of these at Microsoft's conference:

Eden Ring (From Software & GRRM)

Tales Of Arise

Ni No Kuni Remastered

Good to see Xbox getting more support in this area, Phil's Japan trips are paying off!

Mostly for Gamegirlpocket, but others please feel free to chime in...

Looking into the Mega Man series for the first time... I don't have any nostalgia toward the series, as it was always just something that friends talked about, and I think I've only played less than 10 minutes of the games in my life.  With so much on sale for the series, I have no clue where to begin.  What would be a good starting point?  What are the best games in the series?

If you're talking classic Mega Man, most people say that Mega Man 2 is the best. Personally, I have always preferred Mega Man 3. It introduced Proto-Man and, more importantly, the slide. Four ranks up there with me as well. In the second collection, Mega Man 7 is definitely a highlight and 9 and 10 are recent games that return to the retro roots of the original titles.

As for the Mega Man X games, I have far less experience with those but the general consensus I believe is that the original three - X, X2, X3 - are by far the best. Someone can feel free to correct me though

Just do not start with the classic first one or 9, you might not like the difficulty on those.

It's good to hear that Tales is likely back on Xbox. I can't say I'm surprised about a Bamco From Software game coming to Xbox, but it is welcome. Ni No Kuni is the real surprise there.

Wasn't the original point of Yooka Laylee supposed to be a renewing of the classic 3-D platformer?
I'm guessing they called it a spin-off so people know the next game will be Yooka Tooie. Rare had the pedigree for 2D as well with games like Donkey Kong Country and Battletoads, though I don't know how many of Playtonic's team are made up of those employees. Not to mention the popularity of 2D platformers in general still, and the Rare-styled Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

Oh man, you're going to get so many different answers. My recommendation is Mega Man 4 or 6. MM4 is the first entry in the series where he gets the Mega Buster (charged up shots that kill most enemies in one hit). Before that game, he only has the Arm Cannon that only lets you fire 3 bullets at a time. (MM9 and 10, the throwbacks, also lack the Mega Buster IIRC.) I recommend 6 because Rush The Wonderdog is actually helpful in this game since he gives you jetpacks and Hulk hands.

Just don't play MM7. That was traumatic for me as a kid because in the ending (slight spoiler) Mega Man says, "I'll kill you, Wily!!!" Imagine if Mario said that to Bowser or Sonic said that to Robotnik.

I feel the first 4 Mega Man X games can be enjoyed be pretty much anyone. The original Mega Man games are great, but they're definitely not for everyone. I'd try out the X series first, then if you still want more try out the originals.

*deep breathe*

Most people consider Mega Man 2, Mega Man X, and Mega Man X4 to be the best games in the series, with Mega Man 9 being a close contender as well (but also pretty hard for newcomers).

Mega Man 11 has a demo. I personally loved MM11 and think it's a wonderful balance of retro platforming and modern game design. It's hard, though, as it should be. Hard to go wrong here, it's a solid action game.

Personal thoughts on the collections:

-Legacy Collection 1 for $6 is an easy recommendation, $1 per game for the original NES games and a ton of extras (artwork, etc).

--I really love MM1 but can't recommend it. It's lacking the polish of later games and is more of a proof of concept. I still play it annually but if you play this first, you'll hate it. Hardcore fans only.

--MM2 set the series standard, but has some flaws. One of the best soundtracks in the series.

--MM3 is regarded as one of the hardest games in the series in part because it was rushed to completion. Still a great game, not a great starting point either due to its difficulty and the infamous 'Doc Robot' levels.

--MM4 is my personal favorite on the NES. Great music, and great balance in terms of challenge combined with QOL improvements to the formula. Skull Man's music rips.

--MM5 and MM6 are too easy, they were running out of ideas. Quality, polished platformers, but just not as good.

-Legacy Collection 2 is harder to recommend to newcomers.

--MM9 may be objectively the best game in the retro series for all the elements coming together beautifully. It's hard but it's fair, the soundtrack kicks ass, it's 20 years of platforming game design perfected. Did I mention it's hard? MM10 is the victory lap for MM9, and feels more like a fan game than a proper entry in the series. Still fun.

--MM7 and MM8 aren't good starting points. A lot of people defend 8, it's a good platformer but not a good MM game IMHO. MM7 was never good.

-X Collection 1

-Here we go. X1 is one of the best action platformers ever made and a perfect example of good game design. The game teaches by doing, is challenging, but is never too hard. X2 is more of the same but starts to feel bloated with optional stuff, and X3 suffers the same fate as MM3. Rushed to market before the SNES lifespan ended, it has a ton of bloated stuff to collect and is not well designed (enemy placement, level design, etc).

-X4 is a return to form for the series. It got way more time in the oven, much like X1, because it was on new hardware and they wanted it to impress. This is a theme w/ the series, and it's a great game. Many people rank them X1, X4, X2, and then X3.

X Collection 2

-Nope. Inafune wanted the series to end w/ X4, and the later games (X5-X8) were made without him. They are all playable, but none of them are really worth your time.

Yeah, I really wish they'd add games to the Genesis Collection, even if it was a pack of paid dlc. Sega put some great exclusives on the mini that should be in the collection

Ok, my Mega Man take...

Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 has two of the greatest 8 bit platformers ever in MM2 and 3. Those games alone are worth the $6. I have an irrational love for MM4 thru 6, and I know you’ll get differing opinions on them, but since they are part of MMLC 1, give them a go. Mega Man 1... harder than hell and incredibly frustrating if you don’t have nostalgia.

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 is a quality collection too. As GGP said, X1 is probably the greatest action-platformer ever. It’s also a good view into how a popular series adapted during a generation change.

Thanks guys haven't seen it yet myself so I wasn't sure how it would be, I think we'll wait until he's older the cartoon on Disney will suffice for him for now
I always use Common Sense Media to check the appropriateness of movies and shows for my kids and in my classroom. Super handy site that breaks down language, violence, sex, stuff like that, but also isn't prudish in it's critical opinions. Here's the link to Venom:

On a gaming note; I'm so glad the LiS:BtS deluxe upgrade finally went on sale. I bought the complete season as soon as it went on sale but before I realized there was a bonus linking episode in the deluxe edition. I didn't really want to pay the same for the upgrade/bonus ep. as I did for the whole season, so I've been holding off. $2.99 will do!

Thank you so much! Never heard of that site before that’s great, it gets really tough telling what’s appropriate and we’re just getting started

Both Harada and Ono are at E3. Could be nothing, could be announcements from either of them. Harada was promoted so I think he could be there for any of the Bandai Namco announcements, possibly one of the leaks because he posted some strange gibberish tweet after this. With Ono, as far as I'm aware he's only on Street Fighter right now, and he isn't even in charge of all the fighting games anymore. With no Sony show I feel like it would have to be a new game since SFV is supposed to stay Sony exclusive. Maybe they're just there for fun or meetings or something.

Common sense is really useful, but take the recommended ages with a grain of salt, and adjust for your kid. My 4 year old is fine with most “recommended for 8” movies. Your mileage may vary.

As others mentioned, I think MS blew their load a few weeks ago with that huge BC sale.
I'm pretty sure 360 deals are confirmed, just delayed. Major Nelson's post has a section that says 360 deals coming soon.

I just want Burnout Revenge for $5 or less since it doesn't seem to be coming to EA Access for some reason.

All right boys and girls. Ff7 update.

Emerald weapon is down. Only Ruby weapon is left. Continuing the grind to level 99 at level 80 now.

Update number 2:

One hour later Ruby weapon is down.I must have tried to beat him 4000 as a kid. I was so excited when I finally did.

Today was much easier as I knew what to do and how to combine material into the best combinations now.

All digital X1S for $200 at Best Buy. Kind of tempted to purchase this. Would be an auto buy if it was $150
I'm often enticed to buy new items when they come out, but I still don't know why someone wouldn't just wait for a Minecraft Xbox One S with the disc drive to go on sale for less than $200 instead of buying the All Digital edition. I got my Minecraft One S for $130 last Black Friday, and I've been very happy with it since I don't own a 4K TV. I've also been able to score a lot of cheap used disc games from GameStop when they have those 4 for $10/4 for $20 used game deals that they run every other month. I can also play a Blu-Ray movie on it if I want. So, it just makes sense to me to go with a disc version One S since they go on sale rather frequently.

That's very true. I already have an X, and was looking for something to possibly replace my 360 in the living room since the wife likes to watch TV in the bedroom now. I wasn't aware that the S dropped so low last year. I can play the waiting game since like I said it'll be a 2nd X1 console. I have a lot of nostalgia tied to the 360 generation, but I have zero desire to play any games on it now, especially since almost anything I'd want to play can be booted on the X1 also
