Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Despite knowing I won't play either until they probably get to GWG status, I think I might blow another $10 on this sale and am torn between Ryse and Mad Max. Never played either but know what to expect with both for the most part.

Anyone have a passionate take on either of these?

Mad Max, without question. It was my runner up for GOTY last year, and is a fantastic value for $10. Crazy is it that cheap.

Reposting from the old thread:

The 360 already feels dated to me to be honest. Now that consoles are essentially just computers, I think the leap from 360 to Xbone was the last "big" leap we'll see for some time outside of pure processing power. Consoles are already starting to approach ceilings in the graphics department (keep in mind PCs have been closer to these ceilings for years), and it's hard to imagine a completely revamped console OS anytime soon. So I think this will be the generation that holds up, as opposed to 360.
I'll be honest. I've been gaming on console since the Atari 2600 days, and on PC since the days of Dos 5 and WIndows 3.0 (not 3.1.... 3.0). And I find myself even now playing and wanting to play original XBox games. They've held up pretty well still, even the earliest XBox launch titles like the original Halo. I also still have my PS2 hooked up and play it quite a bit.

Not coincidentally, I also have PC games on my laptop from that same time/era of gaming that I still play a lot of. I just reinstalled a bunch more over Christmas, in fact. I've been playing GTA 3 again.

I see that particular point as the threshold to where the graphics jump isn't so big that you just can't go back. Can't say that much for original Playstation games, for example... they have seemed very dated for some time now.

And let's be honest -- the digital store's convenience is going to make it very tempting for companies to leave titles up for sale, and it's going to make it very convenient for gamers to still purchase. That really is a game-changer. I was a die-hard physical/disc-only guy, and now, I don't even play my physical discs and am as digital as I can be.

However one caveat: I'm not a big graphics guy. I know it's life and everything for some, but not so much me. So I'm willing to admit I don't represent every segment of gamers...

Ryse will be fun for a few hours. Mad Max will be fun for a few dozen hours - especially if you like collectibles and open world games. Mad Max is a lot of game for the money and a lot of fun. Both games are good, though. Mad Max does get a little long if you skew towards being more of a completionist type player.

Amazing Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man 2, GRID, and former GWG Dirt 3 have all been pulled from all digital storefronts due to expired licenses. Thanks Putin.

GRID was expected thanks to GOG warning of the impending removal from sale, but DIRT 3 was a surprise and so were the Amazing Spidey games. The DLC for GRID and DIRT 3 is still up, fwiw.

I missed out on the second Spidey game, but I've got Spidey 1 on a disc and managed to grab GRID back when it was $5 like 3 years ago.

It'd be funny if the Dreamcast had another game physically and commercially released for it, thereby 'outliving' the Xbox 360. Regardless, the Xbox 360 is probably my favourite console ever with a richness of catalogue rivalled only by the behemoth that was the PS2. My backlog for it runs deep...
If we include handhelds, the DS is my favorite of all time, probably followed closely by the SNES. I enjoy modern gaming plenty, but I'll always be a product of the 90s.

I often wonder if the 360 or PS3 will be something people fondly remember in another 15 years. I'm not so sure they will. Not to the level of NES/SNES/Genesis that we see right now anyways.

That said, I bet the 360 has people still regularly playing it for another 5 to 10 years easy. The technological leaps are getting less and less, and as game development changes and DRM is more and more rigid, the 360's generation is going to hold up just well enough and remain attractive enough.
The SNES and Genesis had distinct platforms. Games like Aladdin would come out on the same system but be developed by totally different teams and only share a name, and there was a distinct look and feel to each platform. Modern gaming has gone for parity between systems and even on PS3 / 360 it was hard to tell an appreciable difference, except when you had games which really knew the hardware well and had dedicated teams with big budgets. Uncharted 2, for example, just felt at home on the PS3 and I'm not sure it would have looked as nice on the 360.

Really depends on the game. I recently replayed Arkham Asylum (the original) and Dead Space. AA feels really dated, at least graphically, but is still plenty fun. Dead Space, though, came out around the same time and I was amazed by how gorgeous that game still is. I think this current gen will be the most sustainable since MS/Sony are both doing incremential upgrades to the platforms, but I worry they're doing them too soon and it won't catch on as much.

Why don't more publishers have fire sales before delisting? It's not like the market for new, physical copies is very hot anymore. Announce it's being pulled and put them at 80% off, they would sell a ton of them, especially the Spider-Man games on license alone.

GRiD is one of the best racing games out there. OH, hopefully people who haven't played it got in on the GoG and Humble Bundle deals with that game.

My biggest thrill with that game, beating it and just playing the muscle car tracks with open wheeled F3 cars lol. Kind like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxeOYX1v4eo

I actually like GRiD 2 but my god in that game the AI doesn't even know you're on the road! That and a few other things like car's handling and I can see why it didn't do so well in reviews.

The AI is a 1)aggressive 2)totally oblivious you're even there.

I should probably ask Google this question, but how do you kill snipers in Mad Max if you only have a shotgun? I'm stuck at the same part I've been at since before Christmas.

If you can, have your boy Chumbucket drive up to their towers while you hang out the back and fire your Thunderpoon.

And let chaos ensue as you drive away ripping them to the ground.

Still is, actually:

https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-Type-0-HD-Xbox-One/dp/B00KWJ4IJ8/ref=sr_1_1_twi_gam_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1483470540&sr=8-1&keywords=final+fantasy+type+0

I read some very good reviews for it. Most people seem to get hung up on artifacts related to the fact it's a PSP remaster and some of the animations/models/etc are kinda stiff, but it's pretty amazing we got the game at all. I used to play anything with Final Fantasy attached to it but I just don't have a lot of time for console RPGs these days.
I really wish it was on Vita or 3DS. Perfect fit. Thanks for checking that for me.

I second this as i would buy them up to add to the backlog.

Aside from Valve/Steam, nobody else still seems to have the slightest clue how to do digital markets. No publishers, no platforms. Nobody. It's a long, painful evolutionary process.

Thanks. On a somewhat unrelated note, I finally opened the disc only copy of Port Royale 3 that I bought during the Best Buy $5 preowned games sale late last year and realized that it would help if I had a manual. Anyone who buys the digital copy during this week's sale should know that it's not that easiest game to figure out without instructions.

Not sure about Xbox, but the Spider-Man games were on sale on PSN, eShop, and Steam. It wasn't 80% off, but Activision isn't going to be that generous.

Top5 for 2017

Mass Effect: Andromeda
Red Dead Redemption 2
Halo Wars 2
Crackdown 3
Forza Motorsport 7 with Scorpio, you know it's gonna happen-follows the previous release dates from Motorsport to Horizon.

You didn't miss out on much "missing" Amazing Spidey 2.

Top 5 for 2017 (in no order):
1. Resident Evil 7 - Even though I won't get around to playing it for a long time because I'm a bitch when it comes to horror games
2. Mass Effect Andromeda
3. Days Gone
4. Horizon: Zero Dawn
5. Prey/Marvel vs Capcom

I just realized 2 of those are PS4 exclusives. I may be in the wrong thread. I'd put RDR 2 on the list, but I just can't see that coming out in 2017, despite every website putting it on their most anticipated for 2017 lists.
Looks at #5, hey that's cheating !!!

I too am enjoying the new smell scent of the thread.

Looks like nothing for me on the Xbox 360 front this week - although it does remind me I should try playing Defiance (via disc).

In the meantime, I still have free games to own and download in The Cave and World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap so the week isn't a total loss.

I can confirm the the Grid and Dirt 3 DLC is still available on Xbox.com. I'd been waiting for sales forever and finally just grabbed it due to the delisting.

New car pack for Forza Horizon 3 dropped today.

Biggest gaming expense regret of 2016 - buying the Ultimate Editions of Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4 at retail instead of hitting up my buddy that works for Microsoft for 50% off from their corporate store.  Runner-up - spent too much in the Nintendo Badge Arcade on 3DS.

Last achievement of 2016 - It's a Start in Gears 4

First achievement of 2017 - Craftsman in Gears 4

Not really up to speed with what's on the gaming horizon for the coming year other than what's been brought up in the thread.  Looking forward to Zelda, the Switch, Yooka-Laylee and (please?) Cuphead.  Also going to Pax East this year.

Props to whoever it was that recommended a wifi extender with Ethernet jack. Found a cheap one on Amazon and the setup was easy.

Now I can use my 360 to buy games again. Or even...play games. But c'mon..no one does that here.

Power line adapters should be at the top of anyone's list for cheap gaming essentials if you're not wired in.

Mad Max looks to nail the Mad Max environment 1:1 from the movie.

The controls are bit awkward to start but everything else is fun as hell.

Easily worth the $10.

Also I played Battleborne for 3 hours yesterday. It's actually quite fun! Sadly as stated before theres hardly anyone playing it. Your also better off with the disc considering the season pass just gives you keys to unlock characters early and just 5 story operations. At least that's my opinion considering the disc can be had for $10 at Wal-Mart.

You're welcome. Glad it worked out. Just add a switch if you need more wired ports.

Which one did you settle on?

Yikes. I guess Activision completely lost the TMNT license, like Ubi did about 10 years ago.

All the TMNT games are gone, Out of the Shadows, the Nickelodeon ones, and the new Platinum one.

The worst part is the last time that Fast & Furious and the Nickelodeon TMNT games were on sale was back at the end of August. Really kicking myself for not grabbing them then. Not sure why they didn't give those titles love like they did with Spidey.

So the only licensed games Activision seems to have now are:

Deadpool

MUA 1 & 2

Spidey: Shattered

Legend of Korra

Transformers (WFC, FOC, Devastation and all 4 movie games)

Tony Hawk?

Cabela's?

Wipeout

Deadpool, MUA and Spidey all just had their licenses renewed within the last year, so they'll probably be up for a bit. Transformers still has movies coming out and I'm not sure if anyone else has shown interest in the license. Korra'll probably be the next to go, I think.

That said, next time one of these games goes below a 50% discount, it's probably time to buy.

Losing the TMNT license also solves another mystery, the reason why the Platinum TMNT game was so bad. Guess Craptivision was desperate to rush it out before they lose the license.

I can confirm that the Mutants in Manhattan DLC for Xbone is still purchasable through your console. Might want to get it now if you care about that sort of thing, the DLC has been removed from every other platform.
