Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

I guess I'm the last to know that Gamestop has $50 in Xbox $s for $45. Look for the gift pack that has 4 cards in it (3x$15 + a $5 card).

Might be a good way to get rid of some Gamestop credit...

That would be in keeping with the original game.

I'm a little worried about Mass Effect. Either they are going to Mirror's Edge it and just dump it out to die with no promotion or they are going to delay it. I mean after all N7 day falls on a Tuesday this year. That or maybe its a complete mess.

Something is wrong. They have shown nothing substantial of the game and now its out in 2 months? This screams red flag.

Is this another No Man's Sky where they promised the universe and just put out empty space?

It was barely mentioned at E3 for 2 years, 2 N7 days have come to pass with nothing shown except some horrible facial animations.

Something is a miss. I hope I am wrong. I hope it is a pleasant surprise, a new beginning for the franchise. With nothing shown, I'm having my doubts. I think it will end up being middle of the road. It wont be as terrible as original 3 but it wont be as good as 1 or 2.

I would be very careful if you are planning to buy it digitally. Buy it with GCU or gamefly it. A new engine, nothing shown, and it being randomly dropped should be a concern, even if you are made of money or don't care because it is Mass Effect. Be intelligent and don't reward them blindly. They haven't given you a reason that this will be worthwhile. At the very least hopefully play the EA access trial first. Now if they don't have a trial for it, then be extremely concerned.
I'm not a Mass Effect super fan, but I don't agree with this take. Game Informer just had Mass Effect Andromeda as their December cover story which had a lot of content in it. Plus, there was the info that came out on N7 day.
I would say they are slowly release details so as to avoid a No Man's Sky situation where the game had radically changed from its initial showing to release.
That being said, I agree to be smart with your money, try the EA Access trial if you can, and hold off on preorders until reviews are out there.

There's new ME Andromeda gameplay footage showing tonight at CES. Some of you worry warts need to cool your engines. Everything I've read and seen looks great.

So glad I started up Tales from the Borderlands. I never got into the Borderlands main series games, but damn am I hooked on the Telltale version atm. Gonna download B1 as I had that digitally and will give it another whirl since I'm diggin the universe

You think the original Mass Effect was a letdown? Yikes.
To be fair, at the time, Bioware set some impossibly high expectations for the first game in regards to the way interactions worked. Much like Lionhead did with the first Fable.

So in that sense, some people were "disappointed ".

Not shown anything? There's a good portion of info shared and directly proportional to how Bioware releases info for their games. To be honest I wish more story centric games were treated like that by other developers/publishers.

You think the original Mass Effect was a letdown? Yikes.
Huh? I'm referring to rushing a game out too early, which the original Mass Effect absolutely was rushed out for the 2007 holiday season when it should've been held for a spring or summer 2008 release. It had a lot of technical issues (framerate, freezing, long load times, etc) beyond the major things (Mako, Inventory, Combat) that could've been fixed or smoothed over with more polish time at the end.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2007/11/19/mass-effect-review-2

All of this success doesn't come without a cost. The framerate in Mass Effect is as erratic as they come. This isn't something that happens occasionally. It happens incessantly. The game also has issues loading textures in when you enter a new environment. Flat, boring scenery gets filled in with details piece by piece for a few moments each time you load in.

We would be remiss if we didn't mention Mass Effect's numerous bugs and glitches. Clipping through the scenery is a regular occurrence, particularly when you make use of the singularity biotic. Shepard has a displeasing tendency to get stuck in objects, sometimes in the midst of battle. It happens to NPCs as well -- it isn't nearly as frustrating but it does kill your sense of immersion when an enemy "phases" through a wall. On occasion, the game stopped registering our button presses. Rarely, Mass Effect even went the whole nine yards and locked up. All of these bugs can be wiped away with a reset, but boy if they aren't annoying.

We wouldn't be surprised at all if Mass Effect saw a series of auto-updates for Xbox Live members to fix some of these issues, but that really isn't any excuse for shipping a product with this many bugs.

Overall Mass Effect 1 was amazing, but it did leave me expecting more regarding planet exploration OUTSIDE the main quests. I recall Casey Hudson promising "new and exciting worlds filled with endless possibilities." So when I entered a new galaxy and a new solar system with dozens of new planets, yet only one was explorable? And the exploring involved the same drab indoor environments(rocky formation or indoor military area) and the story devices were just relegated to on screen text? This person died who had family on that other planet, you got a valuable artifact, etc.....I was just expecting a better form of interaction a la Bring Down the Sky dlc as side quests, with a chunk of backstory, cut scenes, choices that made an impact, etc

Even though this was 10+ years ago(I remember being hyped in early 05 for ME), I was still in my early 20's. I believed devs when they said this, promised that. But now that I'm older, I can see how devs mean well and overpromise sometimes. Budget restrictions happen, deadlines, people passing away, key talent going elsewhere yada yada yada.

Sometimes its best for devs to not promise so much and show what they got, let their work do the talking. It seems to me this is what ME Andromeda is doing. Rather that then a Peter M overpromise or No Man's Sky disaster. And totally TOTALLY don't reserve. GCU/Amazon that a week after release when word of mouth comes out if its good or not. No company or dev deserves your blind faith

Am I the only one that found Mad Max kind of boring after a while? Like the first 5 hours were fun, then it just got repetitive. I loved Shadow of Mordor so I don't know why I couldn't love Mad Max.
I freaking loved it. If some of the last achievements weren't so grindy, I'd have played even more.

A new engine, nothing shown, and it being randomly dropped should be a concern, even if you are made of money or don't care because it is Mass Effect.
Bioware already used this engine for Dragon Age Inquisition. Sure, shooting mechanics are new for them using it, but I feel like that's on the easier side of learning for a new engine.

Overall I'm not that worried. EA seems to have finally realized they need to give Bioware a decent amount of time to make a game actually good. I think the low amount of material shown has more to do with them not wanting to give away all that much since it's basically a fresh start, and possibly some concern about looking as best as possible. Even waiting until they did to finally show a bit of in game footage, some people still tore them apart for wonky facial animation.

Anyways, we've got 3 months now, and ME is no stranger to a spring release. Realistically, I think the lack of advertising and trailers recently has been because of the flood of big games and the holiday season. We'll start seeing more now, just like we now know the release date officially.

Yeah I always felt people should review a game on what it has, not what it should. A lot of people were disappointed that the morality in Fable 1 was an afterthought if you could just throw gold at a fountain and negate what you did. Well, just don't use the fountain, "problem" solved!

/decade old rant

"RPG Minecraft"? I need more details/examples because I can't wrap my mind around it. Two completely different games, so I'm genuinely trying to figure out what you're saying...
It's a free to play MMO that looks like Minecraft. Now Dragon Quest Builders is an RPG meets Minecraft.

That's sort of the crux of the problem though is that these things don't just magically show up on store shelves one day. They're sold to us over years and often with outright falsehoods (even if they're well meaning or true at the time) and thenyou have to judge it as commercial product as well as art. So in a vacuum there's no problem with just assessing what's in front of you but in the actual economy of gaming the expectations are part of the product and part of what you're being sold in their own weird way and once they exist they bias no matter what.

It's why I've stopped looking at almost all pre-release stuff these days and know that with the magic of the internet anything worth playing is going to bubble to the top by the time it's on sale.

You pick a class to play as from like 10 different ones, you go on quests, find equipment to change your stats, etc. You get a base where you can craft and expand the base by gathering resources by mining like in Minecraft.

Edit: You press the back button and you can mine and gather different blocks to place down.

Man, 10 years ago I wasn't really on the internet much still, only for school stuff and not really casually. I had heard of Mass Effect only through the below trailer and some short blurbs in either EGM or Game Informer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKgSiPqi39w

I bought my 360 specifically for Halo 3 and must have gone into Best Buy to get a second game right when Mass Effect released. All it took was seeing Bioware's logo and remembering that trailer and I picked it up on the spot. I really loved KotOR (and KotOR II) on the original Xbox so they had me right away. It ended up blowing me away with how good it was both with it's storytelling techniques and visually how cool it was, and I played it to death. The only complaint I recall having back then was the copy-pasted base design that was used on most of the side mission planets. I thought the Mako was fun and was surprised later when I saw how much hate it gets.

If there is one thing I miss about the days before coverage was so easily accessible it was being mostly or totally surprised by a new game in a series I liked. I had totally clueless discoveries of Metal Gear Solid 3 and Bomberman 64: The Second Attack, that stand out the strongest in my mind.

I enjoy it for the simple fact that I can play music and turn my brain off and just slaughter hordes of demons while feeling like I'm actually progressing because you pretty much never stop leveling and getting stronger and finding better loot.
This is basically the heart of most MMORPGs. If you like MMORPGs, D3 will probably be your thing, if you don't, well it probably won't.

Definitely an intentional design decision, given the artstyle was "inspired" by World of Warcraft.

Wow. Here I am going back to finish Mass Effect 1 which I started last year, and here you guys are talking about it.

I'm trying to give this game a chance, but I'm getting bored. It's just dialogue after dialogue after dialogue. I've rarely engaged in combat.

This is the most memorable part I've encountered so far:

It does get more combat heavy in the last third or so. I'd recommend finishing so you can import your character to 2, which it sounds like you'll probably like more because of a more even distribution of action and dialogue.

No other strippers for the rest of the game though.

I see alot of mentions of podcast, might I ask which ones you guys tend to listen to?
A lesser known one is the Zed to Zed Podcast. Don't listen to it often as three hours for a podcast is a bit much for my blood but still solid from what I've heard. Might be a bit bias as it has some community members from the achievement hounds.

Otherwise, I personally enjoy Command Zone and Magic the Amateuring which are two Magic The Gathering podcasts.

Interviews: WTF w/ Marc Maron, Joe Rogan Experience.

Comedy: Your Mom's House (Tom Segura), How Did This Get Made? (Paul Scheer, Jason Mantzokous).

Other: Penn's Sunday School, Hardcore History.

Some of these podcasts sound made up. Anyway, I listen to Chicken Pixels, Altered Beast and the Beauty, and Xbox Butts.

(none of these are real.)

Goddamned this RTJ album is real fucking good. Makes me want a new Felt album as well but that's not happening soon.
Signed up for the 4 month free Groove Music pass to hear what all the Run the Jewels hype was about. I haven't listened to rap in like 5 years and Run the Jewels was getting talked up on reddit when the album dropped. I like it a lot too, been listening to it for bout a week now almost nonstop, just gotta find some more good albums besides RTJ.

Did anyone else pick up steredenn recently from the daily deals? The daily runs were working fine at first but now they wont record and allow me to keep playing them over and over.

I'd recommend anything by Atmosphere, Felt, Murs, Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, Logic, People Under The Stairs, Childish Gambino, The newest De LA Soul and Tribe Called Quest albums. I could go on for days

I don't listen to rap at all. The most badass new band for me is The Struts. Their album is amazing. It's like Queen meets the Stones meets The Darkness. Complete awesomeness...

Also... Whoever talked me in to Tropico 5 - you suck. I can't quit playing it until midnight and now I'm tired as shit and it's only Wednesday.

Goddamn Zack De La Roca's spot on Kill Your Masters makes me hope he does a solo album with El-P on beats.

And seeing them live again in February. Can't wait.

Podcast wise, as a retro gamer I love how detailed and nerdy Retronauts is. Tons of trivia and history about old games, sometimes based on a specific game, sometimes on a series. The NES anniversary episode was especially good.

I have a music suggestion. They were a pretty underground band but you guys should give them a listen. They are called "The Beatles".

Also I laugh that all of the podcast talk and nobody mentioned the CAGcast.

Comedy Bang Bang, How Did This Get Made, WTF With Marc Maron, Dana Gould Hour, Henry & Heidi (if it'd ever goddamn update again), TV Guidance Counselor, Doug Loves Movies, Andy Daly Pilot Podcast Project, U Talkin U2 2 Me, Handsome Rambler, Doughboys, Never Not Funny, Stop Podcasting Yourself, We Got This, anything with Jason Mantzoukas as a guest (his guest spots on the Gilmore Guys podcast are amazing) are a few a listen to that I can think of offhand.

Mind if I throw Dilated Peoples and The Pharcyde in that mix?

Thanks for all the podcast recommendations, I'm definitely going to check out some of them
I usually listen to:

CAGcast of course
Bombcast
Beastcast
RoosterTeeth
The Patch
Podcast Unlocked
Major Nelson Radio
Gamescoop

I used to listen to DLC too but they got very political during the election and I dont listen to gaming podcasts to hear people's political opinions so I deleted that one from my feed. It's funny cuz I listen to some politics podcasts too but I would rather hear reporters from NPR or FiveThirtyEight talk politics than listen to gaming ppl talk about the politics stuff they read on social media.

Those are my main gaming ones.

I only regularly listen to the Easy Allies podcasts, the main one for opinions on current news and Frame Trap for general discussion. I occasionally listen the Super Best Friendcast and Co-Optional. I try out a new one or two every week or so, nothing much has stuck with me though.

Surprised to see neither of my two favourite podcasts mentioned. I guess we're all embarrassed for being fans.

Interviews: WTF w/ Marc Maron
I used to listen to WTF, but Maron's monologues just are way too boring and drawn out most of the time, and I feel weird skipping them. Interviews are usually good though, I can respect his desire to get into "real shit" and turn the interview into basically a therapy session. But man, did he turn into the biggest hippie.

All of the NPR ones are great too.
NPR's a mixed bag. I know I had to drop one of their podcasts during the primaries last year because they were getting obnoxiously biased.

Bombcast
Beastcast

As a long-time listener, which of these do you think is better? I don't really have time to listen to both on a weekly basis.

From the little I've listened to so far, Beastcast seems a little less pretentious-y.
