Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

I'd recommend anything by Atmosphere, Felt, Murs, Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, Logic, People Under The Stairs, Childish Gambino, The newest De LA Soul and Tribe Called Quest albums. I could go on for days
Never heard of them.

Last year's releases by Lamb of God, Nekrogoblikon, Opeth, Fates Warning, Gojira, Death Angel, Witchery, Meshuggah, Anthrax, Amon Amarth, Bombus, Devin Townsend Project, and Testament were amazing and highlights of their careers.

Megadeth, Metallica, Dream Theater, and In Flames had new releases with some great tracks but I can't fully recommend them as albums.

Still on the fence about Steep. I really enjoyed the beta and it's a game I would play rather than just add to the backlog. On the other hand being an Ubisoft game and not a big seller, I expect the price to drop again soon. Xbl gets an extra 20% off from discount credit, I prefer digital, and I want the dlc content so I don't know if I'll see more than $10 difference in the next 6 months...

Surprised to see neither of my two favourite podcasts mentioned. I guess we're all embarrassed for being fans.

I used to listen to WTF, but Maron's monologues just are way too boring and drawn out most of the time, and I feel weird skipping them. Interviews are usually good though, I can respect his desire to get into "real shit" and turn the interview into basically a therapy session. But man, did he turn into the biggest hippie.

NPR's a mixed bag. I know I had to drop one of their podcasts during the primaries last year because they were getting obnoxiously biased.

As a long-time listener, which of these do you think is better? I don't really have time to listen to both on a weekly basis.

From the little I've listened to so far, Beastcast seems a little less pretentious-y.
I know some people are turned away by Gertshman on Bombcast but I don't mind his arrogance, I used to have a boss with an identical personality so I guess I got used to it. I think Brad does a good job of keeping things rolling. I like Vinny on Beastcast though, he is a pretty good at hosting on that side.

I think it depends on when gaming news hits for that week on which one is better. I like both but I have a long commute so i always need stuff to listen to.

I like Frontline when they put up new Audio and Freakonomics is good sometimes too.

Does no one else listen to the LaserTime family of podcasts? Vidjagame Apocalypse is particularly fun (and on topic!)
Yes! I was scrolling to the end and you said it but I'll echo the thought. Former GamesRadar guru's Chris, Brett, Mikel and newcomer Dave made LaserTime and my god there's so much gold with these guys. I mainly listen to;

LaserTime - pop culture and random good stuff

VGMpire - game music from one of the biggest fans (Brett) lol

Vidjagame Apocalypse - dedicated video gaming talk

BonusTime - Random talk for Patreon members, basically like listening in on somebody's xbox live group chat lol.

They have a bunch others but those are the ones I like the most.

Has anyone bought Shattered Dimensions since the relisting?

If so, can you confirm whether or not it has the Cosmic Spidey Suits DLC unlocked by default?

Thanks.

Despite knowing I won't play either until they probably get to GWG status, I think I might blow another $10 on this sale and am torn between Ryse and Mad Max. Never played either but know what to expect with both for the most part.

Anyone have a passionate take on either of these?
Both are great games, it really comes down to your personal preference into which kind of world you want to immerse yourself. Personally, if I had to choose between the two I would most likely go with RYSE since I prefer the alternate Roman universe over a post-apocalyptic type world. I currently own the physical versions of both games, and am also considering picking up both games digitally. Regardless of what you choose, I believe it'll be worth the $10.

When the new FH3 car pack was released yesterday, the wrong file was made available to PC players. They accidentally released an unencrypted build of the game, which includes upcoming cars like Porsche.
Those "guess the contents of the upcoming car pack" threads on the forza forums will be much more predictable now. I kinda figured that Porsche would be the other expansion pack piece anyway. They sure can't get anything right with the PC side of forza.

Never listened to a podcast. Ever. And I don't know what a RTJ is. Guess I'm old now...

I appreciate everyone's feedback on my inquiry the last couple of days. I actually ended up getting both because I forgot I had some money in my PayPal account so figured why not both?

Just started BF1 (BF XBL pickup) single player and I must say it's been a hoot for the first couple of hours. I was totally turned off by the beta multiplayer, but after reading so many positive reviews on the campaign figured why not. Now I'm looking forward to some MP.

So what, if any, options do I have to hookup a Bluetooth headset to the XBO?

If you haven't tried 30-20-10, it's fantastic too. They look at the current week 30 years ago, 20 years ago, and 10 years ago across all of pop culture. It's weird to realize how old some of the movies, music, and games that shaped my tastes are.

I really enjoy Pete Holmes when he does interviews and had his short run TBS talk show but never checked out his podcast "You made it weird", anybody listen or recommend it?

I love Q-Tio. I like Dr. Octagon and Camu Tao as well.

Can anyone confirm me 100% that the discount on the expansion pass for FH3 Ultimate Ed owners is not working anymore? Gamestop just put it for 50% off starting today and was interested in everything

It's my favorite and has been for years, but it's not for everyone. Episodes can be extremely long, but the openness and depth of conversation between Pete and his guests is always pretty captivating.

He LOVES to riff with his guests, and I've had many laugh-til-cry moments while listening. For a taste of those moments, listen to The Best of YMIW. It's a collection of fan favorite bits. Jan 16 release date.

Some of my favorite episodes- Keegan Michael Key, Jimmy Kimm, Moshe Kasher, Josh Radnor, Mike Bribiglia and Mark Paul Gosselaar.

Not showing a discount for me (UE owner). I would be interested too, any links for the sale as I couldn't find anything on GameStop?

Forgot to mention I'm italian and it's a physical copy, sorry for misleading :(

That means I'm most probably going to skip, I'd rather just wait for a sale on the DLCs then, thanks

Wow. That sounds like a great podcast. I'm a little bummed that it doesn't appear to be on Stitcher.

On the fence about that Final Fantasy tower defense game on 360. Is it worth the $4.99?
I bought it when it first released at $10....it wasn't too bad. I think for $5 its worth a grab. Pretty decent tower defense game with a final fantasy aesthetic. Its pretty challenging.

Has Rocket League with all the DLC gone on sale, ever? I can't even find the game/dlc bundle on store parser
If you're talking about the "DLCs" mentioned in the disc version, that content is available to everyone who buys the base game -- the maps, the car customization options, etc. The disc may unlock the items early, but you can earn everything from the random loot drops at the end of matches and they can't be purchased digitally anyways so won't ever go on sale.

The disc gives access to 4 cars that can be purchased. Never seen a sale on those though, if that's what you're referring to. Those are microtransactions and sold separately so don't show up as part of any bundle.

New press release on Xbox Wire wrapping up 2016 and looking forward in 2017.

https://news.xbox.com/2017/01/05/xbox-closes-milestone-year-in-2016/

Mostly fluff, except for the mention of forthcoming DLC for ReCore.

So the Neo Tokyo and the Aqua Dome achievements are all free DLC?

EDIT: Yup, they are Title Updates...pulling the trigger on Rocket League

Yup, Rocket League does a really great job of giving new maps, modes, and features for free while only charging for cosmetic cars and keys to open chests (with cosmetic items in them, like rocket rails).

Pete Holmes is hilarious, and I just caught his stand up on HBO Pete Holmes - Faces & Sounds, so good!
It's a little dated but lol his video with Ronda Rousey made my sides hurt - and I wasn't even in the ring, ba dum tsh.

Why no mulitquote mobile?
Yeah, hired I forget that one. I really like Thirty Twenty Ten and it's the love child of Brett "Date Master" Elston.
There's a year episode that's pretty good for newcomers.

Damn...neglect the thread for a day or two and we've already moved from top games of 2017 to podcasts and music.

Anyway, *cough* South Park Mass Effect Injustice 2 Telltale Guardians of the Galaxy Read Dead 2.

I wish I had more time to listen to podcasts, but when I'm working I zone out on what I'm doing and miss what was said for minutes at a time. Good podcasts make me wish I took more long drives. My favs are not that interesting: Stone Cold's podcast (it's a guilty pleasure), This American Life, occasionally Fatman on Batman when Kev talks about a new superhero movie. The Mark Bell Powercast from time to time.

Music-wise, I'll just echo the RTJ love. I've been lazy about seeking out new artists and really, my area of expertise is still late 80s-early 00s hip hop.

On-topic: I keep thinking about Steep, but as was said earlier, I feel like it'll hit $30 or less really soon. I wish Redbox had it so I could give it a try first.

Mass Effect 2 was by far my favorite of the series. A big improvement over the first one, and less complicated than the 3rd.
ME2 is such a contentious and interesting game. To me it's the worst of the series - not saying it's a bad game by any means, I love the whole ME trilogy. I once did a forum poll on ME1 vs ME2 and the result was split 50/50. For me ME2 has both the worst story and worst mechanics (they completely ripped out all customization elements) across all 3 games (again, not saying it's bad!).

A lesser known one is the Zed to Zed Podcast. Don't listen to it often as three hours for a podcast is a bit much for my blood but still solid from what I've heard. Might be a bit bias as it has some community members from the achievement hounds.

Otherwise, I personally enjoy Command Zone and Magic the Amateuring which are two Magic The Gathering podcasts.
It warms my heart to see people still playing Magic the Gathering. I was heavily into it way back in the days of Revised.

Got another $5 bing credit so decided to pull trigger on last BC game in the sale I didn't already own.. D&D Chronicles of Mystara. Loved these games in the arcade as a kid, hope these are good ports w decent net code.

A plan is just a plan until it is put into action. Still dead. Hope they release something good when it comes back from the dead. I hope they work out the licensing issues out so we can get some Jumper. I need to beat up Samuel L. Jackson.

The only video game podcast I listen to is the Giant Bombcast. Other then that I listen to a bunch of NBA ones. The Lowe Post and the three main Vertical podcasts.

fuck off Trench.

UoL0xMr.png
I can't believe those slackers in the Backward Compatibility program. They needed a "holiday break"...? To spend time with 'families and loved ones?' Like they have some sort of life outside of adding to my Xbox One game backlog...? And now they're so far behind they need to 'test' their BC games? Such crap.

There are only 168 hours in a week, and it ticks me off somethin' fierce that these employees are each seemingly devoting less than 84 of 'em to the BC cause. Disgraceful. I'll never use a Microsoft product again!

(....He says typing on his Windows 10 computer while working on his office's Excel document as he counts the hours down 'til he can go home to play Halo.)
