Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Whatever the case, I'm totally fine buying Zelda again when I get a Switch, but as someone still going through the backlog of WiiU games I can wait despite how goddamn gorgeous Mario Odyssey looks.
Zelda is still coming out for the Wii U and we honestly don't know the differences between the two versions outside of one being portable. Might just wanna grab the WIi U version.

As someone who has bought Twilight Princess on all three generations of Nintendo consoles, I feel compelled to continue the trend.

They won't officially say but the Wii U version has more pop-in and the framerate is a lot smoother on Switch. Beyond that I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be the same aside from the second screen stuff all Wii U versions of multiplatforms got. Probably means map, inventory, and being able to aim arrows or whatever through the gamepad screen like Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD. Switch will probably still have the gyro aiming, just not the second screen view.

Played 4 hours of DR4 last night. I was going to play for 1. Holy shit, that game is fun!

No Switch for me. It looks destined to continue the run of shitty systems for Nintendo. I had a Wii for about a week when it released. Haven't wasted a dime on Nintendo since.

...it doesn't even sound like the guy I was responding to has played the game since trying to log in during those initial days.
You got that from the short three sentences? I guess this is how fake news gets started...

In related, I heard from multiple sources that Backwards Compatibility is dead.

This is what Nintendo thinks gamers want?

And I would be surprised if the first Bad Company made it to BC in the next couple years. If they extend the program long enough and everyone sees money coming in from it, then maybe. But then I didn't expect Bad Company 2 to show up, either. And I own 2 William Hung albums and have Roadhouse in my 10 best movies list so maybe you should just ignore me.

I had a 2DS that I think I used for less then 48 hours. Took it on a couple of business trips years before last. Played through one game and play a bit of a few others. Hard for me to justify the prices Nintendo 3DS games usually go for. Already have a portable gaming system (Vita) that I sometimes use a decent amount but usually sits in my laptop bag much of the time now. Lots of cheap or free games for that when I get the bug to play games outside the house. Ended up trading the 2DS a couple months ago. Never felt comfortable in the hand nor was the screen very good. At least the switch should have a decent screen. Still question the ergonomics of it. And I am sure games will be expensive compared to XBox One, PS4 and Vita. Nice surprise on the "free" NES and SNES games each month I guess. I keep thinking about setting up a Retro Pie to play these games but never do.

Just finished Watchdogs 2 last night. Wasn't sure what to start up this morning so I watched last weeks Homeland instead.

Maybe fire up Dead Rising 4 tonight/tomorrow.

But you can only play the games for one month and then they go away. Essentially a one month rental. I see no value in what they offer for an online service. Not that it will matter. I can't see me getting this system any time soon.

After that let down a presentation I had to SWITCH back to my xbox one and look at my 250 installed games to remember what a system with games on it looks like.

All kidding aside, I'll probably pick one of these up closer to the Mario launch. Although that depends on how good Yooka-Laylee is. I might not need Mario in my life anymore. I love Nintendo though so I really hope a lot of people buy this system even though it has no games like the Wii U.

Just as a reminder...

i would rather just play that at in n out with real food.

Any reports on Halo Wars yet? I love RTS games but are they letting us play all 3 races in this version? I was sad you couldn't play covenant or flood in the first Halo Wars.

Nintendo apparently still thinks trotting out Miyamoto yet again in their reveal video and having some "check out this crazy gimmick!" feature is enough to make a purchase worthwhile. It's getting disheartening to watch.

----

Yes, a lot of the Xbox games I have ready to play at any moment are remasters or back compatible. But even if HALF of them were (and that's not the case), the remaining stuff still FAR outnumbers the stuff I played and/or cared about on the Wii and Wii U combined.

Still, I may buy a Switch eventually if they hit on something really good. I bought a Wii about 2 months after release and a Wii U when Mario Maker came out....and sold them both a year after.

I'd pick it up for pc if they do, would love to play Covenant.

They also showed off a 6 year old RPG, which I assume is meant to attract Western gamers/non-JRPG players.

The Mario game looks cool but I hope it doesn't turn out like Sonic 06 did

As for their online thing, I really hope Nintendo messed up on the wording and it's not a simple game that you can play for a month and then have it disappear (a la Steam weekends).

It's crazy expensive if you want to buy extras to play with friends or if you have kids. Only option is, be an introvert or sell your kids.

Come back Monday nights for Xbox talk. Avoid the rest of the week if you don't want to see OT stuff.
Yeah. I keep my mouth shut when there's 4 pages of football talk, a major gaming company launching a new system is going to generate discussion.

I think Skyrim is important if only to show Bethesda working with Nintendo, and it's a safe bet since it's already been remastered. I don't think it's possible for Nintendo to make a Sonic 06 equivalent, but Mario sure did look weird running around proportionately looking humans.

But you can only play the games for one month and then they go away. Essentially a one month rental. I see no value in what they offer for an online service. Not that it will matter. I can't see me getting this system any time soon.
It sure sounds like that's the case, yes.

Unless Nintendo strikes Wii gold with the masses again (which I doubt after the $300 price point) I think both Sony and MS can be pretty damn happy with that Nintendo press conference.

And the launch lineup makes the X1 launch line up look amazing. It's awful.

Not to mention they are going to charge for online.

Good luck Nintendo.
I'm astounded that 1, 2, Switch and Arms are retail releases and not pack-ins. The Wii had Wii Sports and it helped demo/sell the system, the Switch is $50 too expensive and lacks that. And really, almost every X1/PS4 has a pack-in game these days - a trend Nintendo started way back when! - and it seems like a huge oversight not to include anything with it.

As for paying for online...

When the PS3 launched, it was really evident the difference between MS and Sony, since MS had started building their online infrastructure during the OG Xbox days and Sony was starting from scratch. PSN evolved into a pretty good service by trying to match XBL in a lot of its functions and even made MS up their game a little (GWG, for example).

But when I think about how often I played my Wii U online... or my Wii for that matter? I could never justify paying for the privilege, unless all games really push online connectivity (Hyrule Warriors and SM3DWorld lacked it). Even then, I can't imagine paying much for it, and in terms of value - NES and SNES monthly rentals? They should be copying GWG/PS Plus and starting off with Gamecube games.

They really are clueless on value-incentive when it comes to legacy software and getting people to invest in their ecosystem. As much as I love Nintendo, this presser kinda makes me wish that I was playing MK8 Deluxe or Zelda on my X1 with an existing online system and better hardware.

I had a really good first impression but eventually I realized you don't really need to go back to the mall after you leave it, and there isn't much incentive to do so anyways. Overall the game is decent, a step up from Dead Rising 3 for sure, but it has a lot of things I didn't like. Here's a mini review, I know it looks like I have more complaints that good things to say, but I get more in-depth on those complaints.

Overall I think it's a step up from 3, though I'd try and grab it on sale if your interested. And to be fair, I have not tried the multiplayer yet, though I don't know that I want to.

Compliments:
The mall itself gives off the vibes of 1 and 2 pretty well. The city isn't as boring as DR3. The new voice actor does decent, and isn't as jarring of a change as Venom Snake for MGSV. The story is better than DR3. The gameplay feels really good (I turn off Chase Camera in the options though), and the quick swap of weapons is nice. Traveling without vehicles is much more viable and somewhat more rewarding than DR3 most of the time, though late in the game there was a lot of crossing half the map over and over.

Complaints:
The main thing is that it's way too easy. I did not die once in a full playthrough doing all side missions. The Maniacs that replace the idea of Psychopaths are pretty bad, they're really not even a threat compared to the fairly high danger the old bosses had, and there just aren't that many. Guns are WAY to overpowered.

I don't really care about the lack of story co-op but this is a big negative for some.

Rescuing survivors is even more lackluster than 3, they mostly just respawn in predetermined locations with a generic kill stuff around them goal, and then teleport to safety right away. I'm not going to harp on this too hard because I don't necessarily think it drags the game down but lack of attention to detail is noticeable if you played the first 2 games.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUxJpDtg0Bs

Finally, the overall ease and lack of branching story in any way hurts replayability for me. There is not learning of alternate routes. You can't fail to complete the story. The only real incentive to keep playing after beating it is to find all the collectibles and screw around killing zombies. I see why people are complaining about the ending, but I think it would have been fine if there were multiple endings with the one we got being canon, much like DR2. Though there is no Overtime Mode which has always been apart of the series, and that paid DLC that's announced sure sounds like that's exactly what it is.

It's hard to say what kind of effect it could have. Bethesda themselves won't have another game for at least 2 or 3 years at this point. If Skyrim sells well they could port over Fallout 4 too I guess, but the upcoming stuff from the publisher Bethesda would be more important overall as far as third party is concerned. Prey, Wolfenstein 2, Doom 2 maybe.

Realistically I don't expect it to do super well. They didn't put a date on it. I'd guess it'll still be $60, and probably at least 6 months old on other consoles by the time it releases. Hopefully it doesn't have nerfed mods like PS4. They're banking on hardcore Skyrim fans that want a portable (console) version, and hardcore Nintendo fans that don't play on other consoles so haven't been able to play it to begin with. And I guess maybe younger gamers that have heard great things but their family only buys Nintendo.

For the right price, there will definitely be a market for Skyrim for all the reasons you identified, but it would be an insult to consumers to release it for more than $40. And mods? Don't hold your breath, I will be astounded if the Switch port has mod support. I hope I'm wrong. But Nintendo's archaic online infrastructure just doesn't seem up to the task.

Also, if the lack of account system means no equivalent of trophies/achievements, that will be a ding against them, too, IMHO. They by no means motivate me to play a game, but they do add to the fun when they are implemented well, and more to the point, it's a simple feature that literally every other platform has, even the Vita. I don't think about it when playing Zelda or Mario, but when I boot up a multiplatform game and notice the developer has removed this feature for the platform, it kinda sucks.

Plus, silly or not, people like them - there's a reason trophies were patched into GTAIV and MGS4 post-release.

I'm pretty sure the online servers were taken down, so other than replaying the (awesome) single player, there wouldn't be much to do.
Nope. Battlefield BC1 servers are still up at last check. As far as Battlefield games on 360 go only Battlefield 2 has been shut down server wise.

Yeah... I mean I still like Zelda and Mario but I'm way past the point of buying a whole system JUST for those games.
This. The Nintendo made games have been just about the only reason to get the last couple of nintendo home consoles.

+1 here...

I have lots of great DS / 3DS games that I want to play and would probably be more prone to play if they had achievements or trophies or whatever Nintendo would call them.

I think it's possible they could build in some space for mods directly into the cartridge, though I don't know how feasbile or cost effective it would be. If that's the case it would definitely be $60, otherwise they could let you use the on board storage or micro SD. Really, if they're going to be charging for online they need to be as competitive as possible with features.

And I think them charging for internet forces there hand as far as making a unified account system of some sort. I don't know about achievements. I invested on Xbox because they were there first so personally I don't really care about them on other platforms, though I know plenty of people do.

One thing I didn't pick up on last that that sounds pretty shitty is that supposedly all social features, including voice chat, are done through the mobile app.

Wait, the Switch game ISN'T a pack-in?!? A $300 console that has a "gimmick" not packing in a game/tech-demo? It's like Nintendo WANT to fail with this console.

EDIT: Just noticed Switch is launching with a measly 32GB memory but with support for MicroXDSC. In comparison, an iPhone 7's base model is 32GB, as well as Google's Pixel and Galaxy S7.

Also, Nintendo's marquee launch title, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is a 13GB download, so add another ~$20+ for (at least) a 64GB SD card.

This is turning out to be one expensive console.

I thought games would run off the cartridges?

Edit: Just read that link. Don't understand why there's a download if they're using cartridges. If it's going to be like the XB1 where games are installed in order to run, then the built in 32GB is extremely small.

While it seems cool, I don't think Switch is going to change anything for me (I've never gotten sucked into the Nintendosphere apart from Pokemon in my youth) but that's good for my wallet.

Anyone still playing Destiny? I've never done any of the raids or even a nightfall, but I'm at max light and have nobody to play with. I wouldn't mind teaming up with some folks to tackle the end-game content. Let me know.

cdkeys.com has 12 month xbox live gold for 45.99. is that considered a decent price these days?
$40.99 here https://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/353970-usa-ps-12-months-and-xbl-12-months-gold-3999-4399/page-1

There is a code in the first post that is still valid.

Bought a few PS+ codes from them in the past. Other then having to wait a bit no problems at all.

You might have to wait a day or two before they email you the code. If you can't wait like some of the whiners in that thread go with CDKeys.com I guess.

Yeah, it's all kind of insane. It's like charging $50 for Wii Sports. Re: 32GB... the OS will take up a portion of that, and patches are really normal these days and they're pushing portability. If they want to push digital distribution, even 64GB of space will fill up quickly if games are 10GB or more. SDXC support is great, sure, but a reliable 128 or 256GB card isn't super cheap. As what will probably be a secondary console for many people (much as the Wii was), it's all adding up to be a pretty expensive secondary system.

cdkeys.com has 12 month xbox live gold for 45.99. is that considered a decent price these days?
If you need it sooner than later, it's alright. Otherwise it usually can go as low as $30-35 around the holidays. reliable seller, though.

I'd love to play as the Flood, IE Starcraft that shit up! Um, dude, you can play as the Covenant.

Wow 1-2 Switch isn't tied into the system? The system doesn't get any additional power from the dock - so it's practically a piece of plastic to cover the screen? The port of Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn't a launch title?! Aside from all the other things you guys already mentioned. There's a bunch of scratching your head movements from Nintendo at the moment.

Nintendo is banking on the fact that the Switch is a 2-1 system, home console and a mobile gaming platform so I think that's where they thought $300 would align with. I wouldn't be lying if I said I didn't think about Bravely Default on the Switch when they were showing some Octopath RPG or whatever on it. I"ll stick with my Wii U/3DSXL combo for now.

There's really no excuse for MK8 not to be a launch title, it came out ~2 years ago, why is the port not ready for March 3? And 1-2 Switch is a game I'd totally play at a friend's house to demo their shiny new system, looks like a fun party game especially with drinks, but I cannot imagine it not being preinstalled as a demo, especially with a $300 MSRP.

It's tricky because they're competing against themselves in the portable market with the 3DS, so I think they need to market it as a home console first. Plus, how portable is a 6 inch tablet with analog sticks? My 3DS folds up and goes into a bag very easily, the Switch will not be my portable platform of choice. Unless they release a smaller one as a dedicated handheld, which I would love.

Everywhere else online, Nintendo die-hards are defending ever poor decision regarding the announcements. It's making my brain hurt.

Well, this is strange as shit... The mailman just dropped off a Funko Marvel Collector Corps box for me... Only, I have never ordered one, have no login at the site and it was a box from August 2015 (Secret Wars box). On the bright side, I just got a free T shirt and 2 exclusive Funko Marvel characters... I don't know, man...

Looking on Reddit, it seems that if you were a subscriber (I was a subscriber for a couple of months to the Star Wars Smuggler's Bounty box), they sent a free box as a holiday gift... That's just fucking cool...

Lol new GS chick today said the Scorpio is going to run around the $1K area. Bih please. Told her that's nothing and started to throw my credit cards at her like Bullseye from the Daredevil comics

I sub to Collector Corps and Legion of Collectors and received a Smuggler's Bounty box. Definitely a nice gesture on their part.

The Switch presentation was pretty strong in my opinion.
I don't know, thought it had a lot of ups and downs, one hella of a roller coaster ride.

Did anybody else feel like they were watching Stephen King pitch his latest book when they watched the reveal of ARMS? This guy's Spring-Man. Here's Ribbon Girl... and that's Arms. :wall:

EDIT: Just noticed Switch is launching with a measly 32GB memory but with support for MicroXDSC. In comparison, an iPhone 7's base model is 32GB, as well as Google's Pixel and Galaxy S7.
Aren't these phones like $500-600, and the Iphone can't use SD cards at all right? Not really a great comparison.

I agree that more storage is pretty much needed in this age, but unless the account system is good, it has been pretty risky to buy digital Nintendo stuff since they started offering it with the Wii.
