This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I Didn't care for Journey or Flower. Does this mean non-genre specified indie games aren't meant for me or does it mean I don't know and will never know what love is?

[customspoiler='Gone Home Spoilers']It sucks that somebody spoiled one of the major plot points of Gone Home for you guys, but that doesn't really make it okay to keep spreading it around with the news of it coming to consoles so that new people can check it out.[/customspoiler]
I agree completely. One of the reasons why I enjoyed the game so much was that no one spoiled that major plot point for me. It was a welcome surprise since we don't really see that type of story in gaming.

The whole "Is it a game or isn't it?" discussion is garbage to me. I feel like a game is an interactive experience where I have some control over a character or object. I know this debate gets thrown around with Journey too which is another game I loved. If it's not for you then fine, but it's still a game :p

I'm not sure about all the politics and back and forth Bobby mentioned. Actually I'm mostly glad I didn't since I'd rather analyze the work by itself when judging my enjoyment. It reminds me of Phil Fish. I think he comes off as a jerk but I enjoyed what I played of Fez. I can separate the two though I understand why others might not want to.

The fact that those sorts of games end up with people having to get on a soapbox to declare them to not be games or whatever is what I don't get. If it's not your thing, that's cool. There are more than enough games out there for most people that I don't get why the games that don't float their boat become a big focal point for rants and such.

I agree, I've tried not to mention the spoilers myself (using vague phrasing like "subject matter"). I guess others assumed most people already played the game?
They've specifically said that they haven't played it, so they're just regurgitating it because that's all they know about it. I guess it's like if your only response to a discussion about wanting to see Sixth Sense when it came out was to just say the twist since that's the only thing you've heard about it.

It might be a bit more mundane or ordinary in what it's going for, but that doesn't mean arbitrary gameplay would make it better.
Exactly. As a "game", it is mundane and ordinary outside of the story. Which is why the 10/10 reviews are ridiculous and unwarranted.

I was not exactly defending QTEs, but they do a better job than the "nothing" that Gone Home does. Like I said, it's fine as an interactive story, but as a "game", these shortcomings cannot be overlooked.

There are two ways to "fix" this, either add the "arbitrary gameplay" (or you know, do it in a way that makes sense), or make your story exciting enough for it to be able to fend off boredom for the duration.

If they refuse to do either (which they most likely will) for the sake of the premise, then they have to understand that it'll a decent story, but a subpar "game".

Yeah, I had it spoiled, and I'm sure that took away from the experience.

I never said it wasn't technically a game (which is why I keep using "game"), but it's an entirely different subset from most other games. I mean.. a DVD menu game is a game, but nobody would compare it to most games, right?

I just think interactive stories deserve their own category because the word game has certain connotations.

Also, I would say Journey is absolutely more of a typical game than Gone Home. I don't see anyone denying that. Apples and oranges.

You're lucky you don't know the politics, ignorance is bliss, as they say. But I am too fascinated by all the machinations of the gaming industry to not avoid it, so I end up finding out the crap that I have and some of it just drives me up the wall.

I get what you're saying with Phil Fish, and that is a great example. Personally, I feel I am able to separate the game from its creators/fanbase. I don't like Phil Fish, but I enjoyed Fez. I wish we had a Fez 2. Doesn't mean I like Phil Fish, right?

I thought Gone Home was okay. I never said I hated it, I never said it was garbage. I am just putting out criticism of it, like any other game. My complaints on it being overrated and the devs involved are completely separate from my enjoyment of the game. Same with Bioshock Infinite. Did I enjoy it? I did. Were there flaws? Absolutely. Was it overrated? Very much so.

Either way, I hope whatever they make next improves on what they've already done. Personally, I hope they end up making a good pointandclick/adventure game, because with the fanbase they've accrued, they could easily revive the genre commercially (Broken Age is helping, at least).

I like that we're seeing another Costume Quest game. The first one was charming but it was just too easy and presented no challenge, to a point that I got bored with it, kind of like what happened with the Deathspank series. I'd really like to see some further thinking into how the whole costume mechanic works with the combat or an overhaul to that system. We've been promised a juicier and deeper combat system, so that's my hope. And hopefully, considering that the first one was by no means a graphically intensive game, we'll see an XBLA release.

Btw, have to give a shout-out to Ubisoft. My nephews who recently lost their dad had an issue with their Far Cry 3 disc. Ubisoft had me send it back and just sent them a brand new copy of Far Cry Wild Expedition (the bundle with Far Cry 2 & 3 & Blood Dragon & Classic). Super classy move by a great company. I might just go out and buy South Park: Stick of Truth just to support them.

Gun to my head, if you were to ask me what the premise of Gone Home is I'd say you play as a first person lesbian and Street Fighter II is somehow involved and set in the 90's. In short, I have no idea what the game is about, but my limited knowledge of the game does make it sound more sexy than it should be.

I Think listening to podcasts and gaming just gives me extra sass.
Actually, that's a pretty good description of the game that doesn't spoil too much .

So technically it's just a next gen remake of...

?

Also I always felt that title needed a "Bitch!" at the end of it. Also "Walk it Out, Bitch!" would appeal to a more vast audience.
I love it

I agree. A sequel for Costume Quest will hopefully just build upon the roots of the predecessor. They made a ton of money on it and the interest is there (which is why CQ is getting a sequel and not Stacking), so I have high hopes that the sequel will be more fleshed out. The DLC was done pretty well too, if that's any indication of future quality. And the formula is simplistic enough that I can't imagine it's hard to get wrong.

Now that I think about it, you know what's funny about CQ is that it borrows a lot from a very popular flash game that came centuries before it, and built on it. That's probably part of the popularity in the first place. Link is to said flash game, it's fun/addictive, give it a shot, you'll see what I mean.

As for Ubisoft, good on 'em. Quality CS is so rare these days.

Everything I've read about Gone Home makes it sound like the video game version of an Oscar-bait movie.
There's no definitive evidence that they deliberately made the game to pander, but given current marketing trends.. my gut/inner cynic says that you're probably right. Still, like I said earlier, I'm glad the subject matter is there.. just disappointed in the execution.

Looks like SoulCalibur V is on sale for $3.74 for gold members. I don't recall seeing that before.
Wow, that's a pretty fucking good price. I'd buy it for the double license but I have a CE and a standard edition already..

Fighter sale or SoulCalibur sale you think? With a SC sale, SC1 might finally be on sale, along with 2, and 4, and all the DLC for 4 and 5 might be included as well.

Per twitter:

Retro City Rampage for Xbox 360 is 50% off for Gold members this week. This version's almost never on sale so grab it while you can.

Yeah, I do believe I will bite on that price for SoulCalibur V.  It's a good price and I think I'd get a good amount of enjoyment out of it in spite of any changes in mechanics.

Haha, the dev actually said "This version's almost never on sale"? The hell kind of passive-aggressive talk is that? Doesn't he decide when the sales are?

I bought so many fighting games on the recent sales, and while I did enjoy some of them...

...I don't even really like fighting games. Yet here I am, considering Soul Calibur V. Anyone sell me on this or what, I see it has tons of costume DLCs, but is the base game great?

I use a SC stick and don't even have the game. I might have to get it if $10 Xbox credit from Titanfall comes this week.

The gameplay and online are fantastic (arguably best in the series). The single-player is the worst of the series and the new characters are.. lacking, as well as missing a number of vets. That's pretty much it. There's only one DLC character (Danpierre from SC: Broken Destiny for the PSP, he's quirky, but you don't need to get him if you don't want to). The costume DLCs are unnecessary, don't bother unless you've got money to burn, or you like to play the game one-handed.

The reason I point this out is that the series is famous for its characters/story/singleplayer, so lacking them pissed off a lot of older fans, myself included.

So yeah, base game is great, all the DLC is skippable. Absolutely worth $4 (especially with the double license, meaning you can boost online if you have a second Xbox).

Problem is, since you don't like fighting games, I don't know if you'll actually enjoy everything I just said. What fighting games have you tried/don't like?

Edit: Forgot to mention, SCV has the best character creator in any fighting game ever.

Just putting that out there.

Pfff... I own SCIV, never touched it, and now I'll buy SCV... Oh God, help me :wall:
What? Why not? At least play it a little for the Star Wars characters. Other than that, the only thing SCIV does better is story/singleplayer, so you can ignore it for V.

Oh and some characters are in IV and not V, in case you care about that.

I didn't play it because I have a lot of games, and I still didn't get to SCIV. I like to play fighting games against the CPU (yeah, I'm a weird one), so if the story is better, I guess I'll play IV and after that, V.

Thanks for the pointing out the missing characters, I care about those things.

Agreed.  SCIV was the best of the series.  I'm not a huge fighting game fan, but I've always had a weak spot for Soul Calibur ever since it launched with the Dreamcast (God rest it's soul).  That being said, SCV does have the weakest single player, but I'm still rebuying it for $3.74.  That's just too good a price to not have it on the digital shelf.

Still....I'd like to have that CE again.  It was a fine CE, with the fancy book and soundtrack.

Also, Retro City Rampage is 50% off, so it's $7.49 for Gold members.  Pass.

I was always okay with Mortal Kombat and other Netherrealm games like Injustice and even MK vs DC Comics - I though it was decent. I enjoyed DOA5 Ultimate but I did not like the blocking system in it, seemed unprecise (then again, blocking is the thing I seem to be less capable of doing in such games). European marketplace has Soul Calibur V basically for twice as much (5 Euros is 7 or so USD), but I still am considering it, despite the fact I have to go back to play Mortal Kombat 9 and still have Skullgirls sitting in my backlog. On a side note, I absolutely hated UMvC3, too chaotic and crazy, but SCV looks similar to DOA5U, so I'll likely enjoy it. Why is the campaign lacking? That might be an important feature because, unless I find a friend to play it with as it happened with DOA5U, I'll hardly play much online since I'll only get trashed pretty much every single time. If the single player is trash I will likely not bother.

Found 1!!!

Foul Play - $4.94
=P~ Was just confirmed for PS4 and Vita, I was so stoked to hear that. Game looks amazing. I can't actually vouch for it since I haven't played it, but I can absolutely say I'd buy it in 2 seconds flat if I could.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams 4.94
I've only beaten the first world of this, but I think it's worth $5 for platforming fans. The first boss was pretty hard, I've heard the game gets even tougher as you proceed.

Haha I did a double-take when I read that. I'm a BrianP fan because of how quick he is to laud Sony, but yeah this definitely feels like a subtle jab.

Capsized is down to $4.99
I didn't enjoy Capsized as much as I thought I would. Very interesting aesthetic but the gameplay didn't do a whole lot for me. I also had to drop the game to easy to be able to beat it, which is fine but just a heads up that it can get challenging. I think it may have broken cheevos too for those that care.

He has a kind of bad relationship with Xbox. The game didnt get released on the console until months later after the PSN versions

Not weird at all, like I said SC is known for its single-player, so plenty of people play tons against the CPU.

SCV is not so great for CPU fighting, unfortunately. The story mode and arcade mode are lacking, and the only other big CPU mode is "Quick Battle" which has 240 CPU characters for you to fight (one at a time), with varying degrees of difficulty. Unfortunately, some of them are a joke, and some are just outright fucking broken.

It's not fun. Only did it for titles in-game and the related achievements. If you need pointers, I'll post them though.

I got it for $30 from Newegg, the CE case (resembling a book) was worth price of admission on its own. Was very well done. I wish SCIV had a cheaper CE, would have gotten that one too.

That said, I liked how SCV's CE cut out the bullshit SCIV's CE had (a fucking t-shirt? Really?).

Any confirmation on sales this week?
Retro City Rampage - $7.50

SCV - $3.75

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - $5

Foul Play - $5

Capsized - $5

SCV and UMvC3 are completely different beasts, no worries. SCV is a 3D fighter like DoA5U, correct.

The singleplayer is lacking because as I said above, the only SP modes are "Story", "Arcade" and "Quick Battle". Quick battle is terrible and tedious (240 AI opponents with different names that you beat to get titles for your person online). Arcade has NO character-specific endings and no story whatsoever, though it does have branching paths that you can choose from.

And story just feels unfinished (because it is), with uncoloured storyboards galore meant to serve as cutscenes, on top of the story being short and mostly terrible.

You really do need a friend in-person or online to fully appreciate the game. But it has $3.74 of value otherwise, I think.

Oh gosh, I loved insect Armageddon! Not quite as good as the original EDF games but still a ton of fun to be had. Highly recommended at that price.

So it's Xbox's fault he doesn't put the game on sale on Xbox out of spite? What a baby. At least he brought his game to 3DS though.

XBLDB picked up a few things.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon - $19.99 - 50% off - xbldb
BIT.TRIP Presents… Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien - $14.99 - 67% off - xbldb
Retro City Rampage - $14.99 - 50% off - xbldb

I also got a resource limit reached error message while loading one of the pages on the site, so perhaps we should back off on reloading for a bit.
I think your prices are off there a bit Bloomy. Should be $4.99 for Bit Trip Runner 2 (not surprised, it's on sale on Wii U currently), and it should be $7.49 for RCR.

I hate to say it but I think I have to buy SCV digital at this price. I bought the Collector's Edition at launch, but I've put so much time into it the ease of use will be worth it for me.

If you like Soul Calibur at all and haven't bought V, go for it at this price. Yeah, the single-player is totally fucked because Bamco rushed Team Soul to develop it in a year or so, but the gameplay is the best SC has had in a while, with some characters simplified a bit due to being so complex and more or less copying the Ultra Move-styled comeback super that Street Fighter 4 made so popular. Online was always solid for me, and it has some cool lobby variants, though it's fairly dead now.

You probably don't have to worry about Super Soul Calibur V happening either at this point, though it was one of the few times a game REALLY needed one. The team worked on Tekken Tag Tournament 2 after, and the new SC game is some stupid SINGLE-PLAYER only F2P garbage.

Customization is good, a notch or two above IV because of patterns and stickers, but missing some good pieces from it even though much of it is straight ported over. Check out some videos of the packs if you want to see what's worth buying. I'd recommend the character costume packs at least if you like customization. They add a lot for the price and have a couple hairs. The skeleton is cool if you want a skeleton.

Dampierre is fun, but he's weird to use and I would bother unless you really like what you see or think you'll play it a lot. I got him free for pre-ordering, but for $5 when your getting the game for less it might not be worth it.

Only other potential deal breaker is if Talim was your main/waifu.
