  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Cause instead of arguing about just that and not offering suggestions like, oh I don't know, making it that you can only share your games with other people while they're online. Also, it won't allow me to edit any post I previously made. So if its that much of a problem someone get a mod to fix it.

Today was the first time I got charged taxed. Before today, during the New Years sale, I had about $12 of converted points and $25 Microsoft gift card. The converted money finished and I used the "gift card" money to buy a bunch of the other games.

Then when I went to buy the games today, I thought I would pick up both Bioshocks and Mafia II since I have just over $15. I paid, got the billing email and saw that I was charged tax : /

I guess from now on I have to plan my purchases more carefully to ensure I have enough credit.

^ Yeah man it's a lot of crap. I checked how much tax I was getting charged for all the games I bought using credit, & I was even getting charged 2% higher tax than what I get charged in my state.
 
FYI - I found Bioshock URE at Targer for $8.98. This should include all the dl content for both games. Digital is more convenient but if you can find this physical copy it'll be cheaper and obviously save HD space.

Far cry 3 - if there is somebody that has an interest in this game and doesn't pick it up at this price, that actually makes me a little sad. It is one of the most fun and satisfying games that I have ever played, bar none. The first person animations are fantastic and remind you of mirrors edge, the graphics are amazing, the story is good, and the gameplay is perfectly balanced. I just don't understand how somebody who hasn't played it could pass on this game, it is easily one of the best of this generation.

Blood Dragon - if you like far cry 3 and you have a soft spot for 80s action films, this is one of the best purchases you'll ever make.

BioShock 1 and 2 - both great games and well worth the money. BioShock 1 has a better story and BioShock 2 has better gameplay.

OT RANT -what really sucks is how they are used. I've no problem contributing to help upkeep on public property and services, but it pisses me off to no end to be writing checks to the govt knowing how much waste there is and to think any part of it goes to the NSA. I am self employed so taxes dont get taken out from my paychecks. Every couple of months I write a fat check to the IRS to make up for that, and it angers me everytime.

The sheer willingness of people to shell out money for DLC that is sometimes already on the damn disc is astonishing to me.

You do realize in some instances you've nearly paid for the game twice?

I rarely if ever buy DLC because I think these game manufactures take advantage of us especially when it's on the disc to begin with and we have to pay more money to "unlock" it.

Uh, where'd that come from? I don't think any of the DLC being discussed is on disc. And most of the stuff that is on sale are things that have been pretty well received (and probably much more enticing at a discounted price).

Was that a walk-in, clearance shelf find? It's not listed on their website.

I've been trying to find this at a good price for a couple months now and $15 was the best I've seen. I'd grab this deal for sure!

Other than some Capcom games, I can't think of any game that has disc-locked DLC.

Anyways, what about DLC like map packs? Should the game just release with 20 maps and be dead in 6 months because nobody wants to play the same maps over and over again?

It's rarely on disc, not never but very rarely and it's usually small things like skins and extra guns. I've actually spent more than the price I payed for a game on the DLC on multiple occasions on older games I pick up on the cheap and I'm fine with that. It's here to stay and I guess you can blame people like me, if it has achievements I buy the DLC for every game I play and almost always just buy it at full price.

What are people's opinions of XCOM Enemy Unknown vs Enemy Within? The gameplay for the original game is tweaked and can't be undone in the new version so I'm wondering if that makes it better or worse? Did EW add more campaign levels to the original? Thanks!

 
there are at least 4 more levels.
one hard as balls terror mission. 2 missions that give you guaranteed psionics and the base defense.

EW is excellent. gene mods and mecs are great additions. Exalt is decent but after a while feels like a time extender. It doesn't feel like new game but fresh enough to keep you playing.

That wasnt the case before games shipped with a full set of maps.

That's the weird thing, no. I bought a $25 Xbox card from best buy, no tax. Bought a $15 and $25 card at target and no tax there.
 
I've bought cards at Walmart and wasn't taxed. I guess I haven't really paid attention to what I'm actually being charged online. I thought the price included the tax. Going to check into this.
 
I'm pretty sure the general rule is you will be taxed anywhere when purchasing XBL content.

When purchasing XBL credit, you will not be taxed.

Yes I pay tax on XBLA for games and such, but not for xbl credit.

It does mean our Bing searches are diluted though bastards....
I agree Rip44, all the whiners about points screwed us. I loved points!

I've not been charged tax for purchases from the marketplace but I do not use a credit card there. I'm also in Georgia.

I thought the sales were over after the first. I'm glad I checked here again.

BTW, I was not charged tax for a $50 card, but I was on the content I bought with it. This is how it's always been for me.
 
When you look online, check your transactions in the, Billing and Payment section.

The last column for me is, "Total (with tax)"

Two questions, are you using previously converted points or newly added points? and where are you located?
I'm really curious to find out why some are charged and others are not. so far I was only charged tax on points I added from a previously expired points card. Otherwise I still have like $45 in old converted points.
 
I'm using previously converted, I still got over $80 worth or so before I have to use before they expire along with a normal non point based $50 card I put on there last month or so. Plus I live in Colorado where the weed I will never smoke is legal.

lol damn I think that article was the feel good story of the year. I wish it would be legal here too so I could stop telling me friends that we shouldn't smoke it because it's illegal.
I think previously converted points don't get taxed. it's strange though that my newest points were used before my old ones.
