This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Dang I just bought Golf like two weeks ago. Hopefully DR3 is discounted soon.
I wouldn't mind seeing the DR3 season pass on sale eventually. With all the improvements made to DR3 (craft weapons anywhere, better save system, choose your upgrades, etc.) I'm having a blast with the game and don't think I can go back to the older ones. I'd like to try the new content sometime.

I'm tempted by Tales of Vesperia. Recently I was in an RPG mood and couldn't decide what to play. Between this and PS+ sales I've stocked up on RPGs. I bought Ni No Kuni and Eternal Sonata like I wanted and unexpectedly picked up Tales of Xillia. I've got FFX/X-2 HD preordered since I love those games and plan on picking up the KH HD games. FFX and Lost Odyssey are my favorite JRPGs. Never really dabbled outside of those or touched the Tales series. Do I really need another JRPG?

That doesn't even include any action or Western RPGs that I play. Still waiting on the ME3 Citadel DLC to go on sale. My friend bought me The Witcher 2 for my birthday last year and I haven't played it yet. I've been getting back into Fallout 3 since I never touched the DLC that I picked up. It's the same with FNV. *drowns in backlog*

So, Zombie Driver HD getting delisted on the 25th. As it was already discussed, the campaign is a bit too repetitive, but the core gameplay is a lot of fun, an interesting mixture of Death Rally and Carmageddon with great graphics and visceral fun. The extra gamemodes like races and survivals are where it's at though, and for 10$ it was a solid buy for me when it came out, though I can see why people wouldn't spend that much on this, with some triple-A retail games being saled to 5$ or so from time to time. Also, it has no multiplayer, but at least it offers plenty of content. Give it a shot, see if you need it before it gets delisted.

Regarding Zombie Driver - supposedly, they plan on bringing them back when the details can be ironed out.

Also, Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds is supposed to be 50% for Gold members next week. Both according to @lifelower

RPG backlog is the worst kind! you could knock out 3-5 normal games in the time youll spend on one of them, it makes it kind of daunting to start one when youre trying to work through your collection. sounds like you are way behind, fallout might be my favorite IP of the generation ( i know its older), so I'd start with those first. Point Lookout might be my favorite, super powered inbreds running at you through the swamps with a shotgun...

Damn, one of the three games I regret not being able to play.

Picked up Tales for $5. I liked the demo for Mystaria, but it's a game I likely won't get a chance to play co-op. Would anyone still recommend it?

I personally like Tales series because of their dynamic battle system. In ToV you are in complete control of you character, there is almost no turn base fighting (I hit, delay, wait till the enemy hits me, and here I go again). You can always switch to automatic mode, but manual controls are the best. ToV has nice combos and linking of moves, I absolutely love that - it keeps me completely active in every fight. Also the story and the characters in the ToV are pretty awesome.

If you like any Tales series than you should def. play ToV it is one of the best. Talk about soundtrack, it has pretty moving bits lol I'm being sentimental now.

Now Eternal Sonata has good fighting system as well but you only have like few sec to execute the move meaning you have to deal as much damage as you can in short period of time. Than stand still and wait for the enemy to attack : /

Overall I'm not really a fan of ES story and the characters, not my type of JRPG.
Turn based. That's what I don't like. Can you guys recommend some more good RPG's/JRPG's that are not turn based?

I'm still trying to get through Kingdom Hearts (PS2). I also have Dragon Quest 8 and Tales of Symphonia to go through.

If you're a core JRPG fan, or want the best possible experience you can get, don't get Tales of Vesperia for the 360. It's tempting, looking at the price w/gold, but the if you have the PS3 version, it has full voice acting (twice the script of the 360 vers) new characters, mini games, quests, gameplay features, skills, etc. Overall getting the PS3 version when its own sale IMO would be better, but hey if you're just looking for a cheap JRPG experience go ahead with the 360 version
PS3 version is Japanese only with no subtitles. Never released outside of Japan.

Tales series, Skyrim, Witcher 2, Dragon Age, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Mass Effect, Fallout 3/New Vegas, Diablo 3, Dungeon Siege 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1, Deus Ex: Human Evolution Director's Cut

Tales & Kingdom Hearts series are two of the few quality JRPG's w/o some type of turn based system.

XCOM is turn based. The first Dragon Age is as close to turn based as you can get without it actually being.

I never saw this D&D game in arcades back in the day and I was an arcade rat. Pretty cool they had a leveling up system back then. I don't think I ever saw an arcade game with RPG elements in it.

LMAO@ the crazy sounds the Shadow Elf boss makes. Sounds like the chorus to What Does The Fox Say
I had the first one at my local Walmart as a kid in Marion, IL but not the second one, which barely made it to any US arcades outside of NYC & CA.

Personally, I prefer turn based.
With the overwhelming tide of ActionRPGs it is actually harder now to come across a true turn based battle system RPG.

Input on best/favorite turn based RPGs are appreciated.

Lost Odyssey is still great if you haven't played that yet. One of my favorite games this generation. The dreams are incredible. Even if you never play the game, it's worth finding a page that has transcriptions for all of the dreams.

Best ever/favorite RPGs? That's tougher. Suikoden 1-3, Chrono Cross and FFVI are my personal favorites of all time.

i have a question if anyone could answer i bought the season pass for cod ghost on xbox one would i get the season pass for the 360 game too? or does it only work if you buy the xbox 360 pass first i can't seem to find the answer

What a horrible night to have a sale. Man, I just bought a damn Wii U and a Nexus 7 tablet... I'm so low on funds at the moment that even five dollars for an Xbox 360 game is hard to justify.

So, Tales of Vesperia... any good? Is the combat satisfying?

Besides Costume Quest I'd say X:Com: Enemy Unknown & Lost Odyssey on 360. Eternal Sonata is fine also. On PS3 it's Valkyria Chronicles.

On any of the 3 platforms look into the Penny Arcade adventures also. Banner Saga seems to be a real nice indie game that just came out on PC.

2008 Checkmate Arcade winner for best RPG & co-winner for best overall 360 game.

Tales series has the best combat of any JRPG I feel.

Lost Odyssey... was that the one with the short stories at different points throughout the game? Yeah, that was pretty good! A little too close to latter-day Final Fantasy for comfort, but those stories added a lot to the gameplay... they were well-written, even touching.

I loved Suiko 1 and 2- I played them both obsessively at the turn of the century- but 3 didn't hook me the way the first two had. It just didn't feel like Suikoden anymore, seeming more like a Grandia spin-off. I like Grandia, but that's not the experience I want out of a Suiko game.

Tales series, Skyrim, Witcher 2, Dragon Age, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Mass Effect, Fallout 3/New Vegas, Diablo 3, Dungeon Siege 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1, Deus Ex: Human Evolution Director's Cut

Tales & Kingdom Hearts series are two of the few quality JRPG's w/o some type of turn based system.
I didn't like Oblivion so I didn't even consider trying Skyrim.

I didn't realized Ultimate Alliance was an RPG.

Mass Effect and Deus Ex are in my backlog.

Never tried Diablo.

Amalur, Dragon Age, Witcher and Dungeon Siege sound familar. I know I tried demos of them and only sort of liked one of them which seemed like something out of World of Warcraft.

Also it's more of a strategy game than an RPG. I don't think it's what he is looking for.
Yeah, I hated X-Com. Sure it looks great but the gameplay was so boring to me. I also didn't care for the demo to Eternal Sonata.

Costume Quest.
Pass.

I kept seeing Lost Odyssey in stores but didn't know anything about what kind of game it was. Chrono Cross and Trigger I've never played, and I don't know how to react to Final Fantasy.

I liked playing Final Fantasy 7, but then there was a demo for either FF 8 or 9 (it was PS1) that was just so hard to play that I started hating RPG's since. IIRC, it was said that the actual game was different but the damage was done. I remember trying some Fantasy demos on PS2 and while they weren't bad, they didn't grab me like FFVII did. I like how you actually have a chance to block or do combo hits to an enemy which is why I liked Super Mario RPG and Legend of Dragoon.

Anyway, I'm about to start downloading Vesperia.

I can understand the feeling of Final Fantasy from Lost Odyssey. Mistwalker had a great deal of staff that were former employees of Square Enix.

And unfortunately, I think turn based classic RPGs are all but dead now. It's either for the best or not depending on where you stand on turn based combat. I hate the move to action/RPG hybrids, but that's me. I'm an old school fantasy nerd and the games being made these days aren't marketed towards me.

I agree to an extent. This is why I want a Wii U so much. It's classic gaming that I am familiar with and can revisit via Virtual Console.

BTW, I wish Enix would make another game like Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia. I love those kinds of games.

Turn based. That's what I don't like. Can you guys recommend some more good RPG's/JRPG's that are not turn based?

I'm still trying to get through Kingdom Hearts (PS2). I also have Dragon Quest 8 and Tales of Symphonia to go through.
Tales series is one of those JRPGs that has close to non-turnbase fighting. It is almost like beatem-up, and I love beatem-up genre.

As I said ToV has dynamic battle system and you'll be active most of the time, unless you pick automatic fighting mode.

I'm totally with you in general but in this specific instance I would recommend using the english dub. It's english dub is fantastic and actually enhances the entire experience. This is one of the few RPG's that I can handily say that the english dub is superior.
I do agree that for a change they did quite a good job in dubbing ToV, it clicks. Yet still I prefer original Japanese voices. Everyone has their own preference and that preference is mine. Look at this game - it so colorful, with a shard of fantasy and beauty. It is a Japanese art, right!? Japanese art in motion. Now if you add something that is not Japanese, a small detail like different sound(other language dubs) it ruins authenticity of the art as a whole.

Ok, I'm getting to deep here. Only expressing my own opinion please don't hold it against me.

i have a question if anyone could answer i bought the season pass for cod ghost on xbox one would i get the season pass for the 360 game too? or does it only work if you buy the xbox 360 pass first i can't seem to find the answer
The cross buys only go from X360 to X1 not from X1 to X360.

Someone quoted you on this and the user is right. You brought up shows. Yes, usually Japanese shows are much better in the original with a sub. I used to watch a ton of anime and only a small few have a decent dub. Video games are different though. And especially when you consider this is a Tales game. They have done a really good job with the entire Tales franchise using professional voice actors and Vesperia is one of the best. There is no Star Ocean voice work here.
Yes Tales of Vesperia dubs are alright, I can bare that even though I still feel emptiness in hearing the dialogs.

But you're saying "Video games are different though" and I disagree with that. We are talking about JapaneseRPGs here. Ok you watched anime than how is it different to JRPG voice overs? They are as good as the anime ones! Japanese original voice-overs have so much more energy, emotion, spirit and melody. No wonder you prefer subs for shows, well that applies to JRPGs as well.

Tales series, take for example Tales of Destiny on PS1 to start with, Japanese version, omg the difference is huge from English version. Original Japanese voices are absolutely amazing, and of course voicing out of fighting techniques like "HOUOU TENKU" lol still remember that move. Continuing to PS2 version of ToD, to bottom it out they all had outstanding original Japanese voices, they had something that sticks and thats what counts.

I am unsure of the answer of this so figured I'd ask here.

A friend of mine's Gold recently expired but she recently got a PS3 so she is trying to decide between XBL Gold and PS+. She doesn't play many multiplayer games so I think she is leaning toward PS+.

The issue is she is very interested in Guardian of Light and I know she wants Tales of Vesperia for $5. I have a number of Gold trials from games (not sure what time they add but they range from ours to a week). Will any of those allow her to get Lara Croft and buy ToV?

No. None will work. Has to at least be a month.

I checked amazon and Best Buy. Neither sell just one month codes, is there a good place that can be recommended for a 1 month code so I can pass it along?
Check the thread in the free stuff section. I think the free month is still active if you use a mobile device. You could also check the trading forum as well.

I don't think a trial is going to cut it. However, there are people here selling Xbox Live Gold subscriptions for reasonable prices.

Broke down and got Tales.

Also D&D is fantastic for fans of beat em ups and D&D. Still got my JPN Saturn copy of this and considering the PS3 disc version too just because.

I've seen the one month cards on Ebay.  I had one from when I sent in my 360 with the RROD.  I can confirm that it allowed me to download Sleeping Dogs a couple weeks ago for free.

I know! I picked up all of those in the past couple months due to great sales. Besides The Witcher 2 and the Fallout DLC I've beaten all the major RPGs that I own so it's not too bad. I've actually been getting rid of tons of physical games I know I'll never touch or go back to in preparation for next gen. And I plan on keeping my XB1 physical catalog low and hope to only buy disc versions of games I'll play immediately and then sell or trade them whenever I stop playing. Hopefully I can keep that up for this new generation. I'm tired of the clutter.

Yeah, I just watched the footage of the game on YouTube and couldn't resist a purchase. The combat system, as others have already pointed out, looks fantastic... it's just what I wanted out of an RPG! Dark Souls I might skip... Demon's Souls was a game that titillated and infuriated me in equal measure for that brief period when I owned a Playstation 3. I eventually reached a point where I just couldn't make any more progress, and quit to save myself the aneurysm.

Bought a digital copy of Tales of Vesperia since I sold my retail disc a long while ago.  I may end up snagging FFXIII-2 as well.  Definitely getting D&D: Chronicles of Mystara to relive the arcade glory days.  Now my decision is what to do next: start disc 2 of FFXIII or finally unwrap and play GTA V?
