This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Could someone guide me on how to access Game of Thrones, Season 4, Episode 1?

I've wasted an hour trying to figure out how to stream it, and I cannot find it anywhere.  I looked in Xbox Video, and it doesn't have Season 4 listed (only Seasons 1-3).  I downloaded HBOGO, but I have to have a subscription for it to work.

I've search all over the internet, and I still have no clue on how to watch it for free on the Xbox.  Damn I detest Microsoft's interface.

Larry Hryb        ✔ @majornelson
If you missed the Season 4 premiere of @HBO's Game of Thrones, can catch it free on Xbox through April 14th [US only]

I bought one today. If you don't believe me, feel free to not believe me.

I'm too lazy to upload a pic of my receipt. :p
Seeing as I live in the ass crack of SC, there's no Sears near me. So spending hours to drive to one, I'll just ask. What's the kit even come with anyway?

So what's the deal with this free 1 month xbl gold ad plastered on the front page of my dashboard? It's not the 1 week reimbursement when servers were down so why the promotion?

I only connected to download TWAU ep 3 and saw it and was curious. Anyone else or am I just behind on the news here?

Has 12 month Gold card, 400 point card, wired headset, and a chatpad.

And ignore the special needs soda several posts above this post I'm making.

Are you gold already? It may just be some promotion for free members.

Haha I decided to pick up Magic 2014 and I used the balance on my account since my Reward Points came through. So got it for free, (Marcus Fenix voice) neeeiiiiice.

I was leaning that way.

Any suggestions for the other $3?
Perfect Dark hasn't aged well, but it's still a classic and almost never on sale. I'd expect Charlie Murder to be on sale again soon enough (it looks pretty good though). So I'd say Perfect Dark HD unless you really dislike the age its showing/are dying for Charlie Murder.

I'd say that while Perfect Dark has not aged well, if you manage to find friends to play it with multiplayer, it can be a blast. Good map design and an insane amount of weapons, and since you can choose which weapons to use in each match (you can even randomize), matches can get pretty funny. I do recommend trying out the demo, as the game totally does not feel like a modern shooter, also thanks to the fact that it was originally designed for a controller that (imho) was never really comfortable to begin with, especially for an FPS.

Perfect Dark also has an innovative feature where the campaign missions are all different in relation to the chosen difficulty picked. Go in on normal and take out the guard, go in on hard and take out the security first, then hack a computer or whatever (which is guarded by more dudes).

There's definitely a community, it just depends on what you'll play. Beast Mode seemed like it was lacking life, and that was a year ago. Horde Mode has players, but they tend to quit after Wave 10 (Epic's own words, and why Survival only went to Wave 10 in Judgment). Versus will have players, but know that if you played Guardian that it is only available to Season Pass and/or to owners of the Forces of Nature DLC pack. Also, the Raam's Shadow episode is fun to play through, as at parts you get to play as the Locust. Essentially, this Season Pass offers single player content with Raam's Shadow, Beast, Horde and Versus content with map packs, Horde Mode content with additional fortification and Silverback levels (although this is withheld content), and Versus content with an extra game mode, along with many more characters and weapon skins.

I do think they've greatly decreased, or possibly even removed, the versus dedicated servers, though.
Decided to get the Gears 3 season pass and played last night. I forgot how fun it can be. Also, some single player content. Well worth it for less then 10 bucks. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for confirming Far Cry Classic has checkpoints, unlike the demo. It took a lot of stealth but I managed to finish the demo a few days ago.

I like how Gears of War 2 and 3 became more of a puzzle shooter than just a flat out "point your weapon, shoot, and the enemy dies" game. It actually took some strategy to find some enemy's weak points and know when to fire. I especially like that one level in Gears 2 where you have to cut the heart and avoid traps. Gears 1 introduced this with the Berzerker and Raam battles, but the other games improved on them.

I decided to go back to my backlog and try to finish Grand Theft Auto 3. I'm reminded on why I didn't like this game so long ago. This one "mission" where you have to play sniper as the guy runs on the ship is ridiculously hard. The racing level is a joke; even if you have a fast vehicle, your chance of crashing into a civilian vehicle that magically appears and flips your car over is greatly increased. And to make matters worse, the map doesn't point out where the gun shop is.

I'll try Vice City to see if it's any better.

Perfect Dark. Combat simulator with a friend against a team of eight sims with proximity mines is still one of the great moments in video game history. The campaign is dull, but I never really bothered with it.

Oh, and while that memory is from the N64, the xbla version still carries the goods on the combat simulator front. I still go in there from time to time and lose an hour.

Great deal, but that's probably a very YMMV clearance item. I think most of those have been gone for a long time.

Are the "Free" games for Gold members only valid as long as you have Gold? So if your subscription runs out, you would no longer have access to the game?

Perfect Dark is probably the closest we can get to classic Goldeneye on 360. PD is the spiritual sequel to Goldeneye.

Played Charlie Murder with a friend last night for a few hours. We liked it, but probably wouldn't play it alone.

Not gold. Haven't been since the free xbl trial went kaputz, and even then only once to grab Lara Croft GoL. Might as well give it a go.
That is most likely why you're seeing that promotion. They have special promotions most of the time to get free members to join Gold.

They're doing free gold? I want in on that. What do I gotta do?
He wasn't a Gold member before, so I'm assuming it's one of those promotions available only for free members.

Nope, you always have access to them, regardless of your membership status.

Ugh, I started playing Fable Anniversary (borrowed from my cousin) and the frame rate is abysmal.  I guess there's a patch that helps improve it, but I can't download it unfortunately.  Also just had the game lock up on me for the first time.  It's also not very good looking, I thought Halo Anniversary looked way better.

NFS Rivals is a great example of why X1 comes with Kinect. I'd hate having to pause the game to set GPS. I'm not liking that 2 of over 10 clips actually recorded though. There is one Hot Pursuit where bots try to jump over a gap, but don't make it. They keep trying to jump it and fail. It is beautiful.

I've been stuck on a racing mission in GTA3 for over 10 years now. I've gone back a few times through the years, but it's impossible for me to beat. It really bothers me than I can't finish it.

I've had that same sort of issue with GTA3. I made a concerted effort to beat it way back in the day and the save deleted itself when I got to the third island for the first time.

I never even bothered finishing older GTA games. A lack of checkpoints and some seriously, seriously retarded missions ruin otherwise brilliant games - each game has its own ones, GTA3 the sniping and racing, Vice City the RC helicopter and even some of the shooting ones that are so damn long. San Andreas was seemingly going to be the first GTA I finish, then I got stuck on the learn to fly part near the end of the game, and soon after my save got corrupted and could not bother wasting dozens of hours to get there again, so I just downloaded a 100% save at that point. GTA4 bored me after a bit. GTA5 is the only GTA I finished, also thanks to a better than usual storyline, a more polished gameplay, less BS missions and... checkpoints. Mind you, I don't dislike a challenge (I adore bullet hell games which are 100 times harder than any GTA), but lazy design causing the difficulty... no, I just won't waste my time on that.

What does the Kinect have to do with the game? There's a NFS thread on the Xbox One & Xbox 360 page btw.

Did anyone actually beat GTA III..everyone I knew just played it to fuck around.

Yeah, but the completionist in me always wanted to finish the games. That is until one (or more) 30 minutes long, annoying, BS designed, no checkpoint levels made me pass any intention of ever going all the way to the end. They're worth playing until you unlock the whole game area (unless you use cheats, in which case you can probably just skip the campaign - GTA V aside at least).

I did. The hardest thing for me was the Ambulance Missions, as the game would spawn injured people in spots your ambulance could never reach due to poor design and lousy testing.

Mostly not having to open the menu every time you want to set a waypoint. Opening the menu does not pause the game, which can lead you to getting murdered during some events.

I only brought up NFS because the X1 version was on sale recently for $25

EDIT: Yeah the map is a bit too sensitive, but doesn't open up too much without me asking it to.

Oh you can bring up the map with the Kinect? I just always use the controller and yeah who thought that was a good idea to not pause the game when you bring up the menu. Problem is it's because of how Rivals is online in someone else's game at the same time so, unless doing something similar to what Max Payne 3 did (by slowing down players around the player activating the button press), there's no way to pause. They should activate a smart AI to drive your car at that point though.

I Just beat Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Man, that has to be one of the most lackluster endings and post-ending sequences for me in awhile. That and so many times it froze or just random glitches popping up. On the plus side, choking out or putting enemies to sleep and than tossing them off the highest point you can find or into the water...never gets tiresome. Especially since it's still considered "non-lethal".

Lmao I remember doing that in MGS2 during the first chapter. that brought back such good memories until I remembered I had to use Raiden for the rest of the game.
Finally got Dragons Dogma, but from Amazon when it droped to $17 for kilter 2 seconds. Hope its as good as the praise its gotten.
