XBLA - Puzzle Quest - Now 800pts
I took out Dugog on my third try with a level 18 mage. Health regeneration helps, and being able to destroy his red and blue mana also comes in handy. Now, if I could only learn the Troll's regeneration spell... oh, wait, I can, but I have to be really really lucky to learn a "very hard" spell!

Took over a city already, too. Yea for free gold! :D
Personally I like the troll rings better(bought at the shops) but it's all of a matter of preference. The troll rings cost no mana to use, they automatically kick in at the start of your turn, only condition is you need to have a certain quantity of blue mana depending on the quality of ring you use(more hp gained back each turn, more blue mana needs to be held.)

As for seiging, i've had mixed results. I've seiged 2 cities so far out of like 10 tries, really tough. I've found the Destroy catapults sidequest(repeatable) more easier for gold but then again I might just suck at seiging to begin with
Anybody who has played the DS and XBLA versions want to compare. Which is the version to get?
The DS version's advantages are touch screen control (which leads to mistakes here and there) and portability.
The 360 game has far better graphics and sound (the DS music is terrible), online play, Achievements, rebalanced gameplay, and less bugs than the DS/PSP games.

I say buy the 360 game for quality and lower price; then if you like it enough, maybe you could get the DS game for when you're on-the-go.

Apeykaybee, seiging gets a lot easier as you level up, train your mounts, get better items, etc.. It's super hard early on.

Ugh - I bought the game on Live at 2pm yesterday and pried myself off the couch at 4am this morning...I literally sat playing non-stop for 14 hours (except for one break to let a friend into the apartment to use my computer...I even forgot to eat dinner).

I think a chunk of the time was spent researching two "very hard" spells. The weird thing is that it took hours to finally crack one, but I cracked the second one immediately right after that.

Also beat Dugog at 13th level (after 11 tries), although I guess I should have levelled up more first beforehand? Went with a red mana denying strategy as a wizard - I have no idea how I would beat him with one of the other classes.

I feel like a wreck right now, and my left hand is in one of those carpal braces...yet I feel the urge to play more! ;)
What does a wildcard do?
it can be used for any color. Coins & EXP do not count.
Also, it multiplies the amount of mana you earned in that 3-5 in a row. If you match 2 reds with a x3 wildcard..and your mana is usually +4 then you would receive +15 red mana. I'm sure someone can explain it much better then me, but yeah.

Oh, I was using a troll ring. I spent an hour or so trying to learn the regeneration spell, only to keep losing whenever I got about 80% of the way there.

And now I have a greater troll ring instead. Good thing I never use blue mana for any consequential spells. :D

It works great. used it forever until I found something better to use(although no hp recovery.) Will be tweaking my setup because the replacement I am using is wonderful.

Will probably end up going the rengeration route as cauterize(I play a wizard) costs a crap load of mana for a pretty neglible healing effect.
Any tips on forging a God Like item? What runes did you use?
It took me two tries to forge a God Like item, but I don't have really any tips since the board resets after you get an anvil (and you have to get 20+). But what I did was I mainly tried to work one anvil towards a column or a row that was lined up with either a 4 of a kind or near a +5 skull. Then on the opposite side of wherever that location was I'd try to get three anvils to line up, and if I ran out of moves I'd take just the one anvil.

I don't remember the exact names of the runes, but I think the first was an Axe Rune, the middle was called a God Rune, and the third was a Poison effect Rune. I think the final result was a weapon that inflicted +6 damage if I inflicted damage of 6 or more, and it had a 40% chance to cause poison.

So it truly is all about luck.. LOL
How many companions are there? 7 right? All you need is 5 for the achievements..I know that fat ogre comes apart of my team next..

Try to get it set up early to where you have the option of clearing an anvil, but don't clear it. Try to get more anvils to drop down, and then line up 4-5 at once. It's much faster to do it that way, and if it comes down to it and you can't get more, at least you have the first one set up to clear.

Whoo, won my first online game!

And to Logg, aka Unearth4164, sorry for bring the mana-destroying little bastard wizard that I am. It's a good method for taking out Runekeepers, though. :D

I'll challenge you again should I see you playing PQ, to return the favor.

researching the very hard spells is a pain :\

At least with forging you can clear columns/rows to make it more manageable, which you can't do when researching a spell. What really annoys me is I was one scroll away from finishing and I ran out of moves :bomb:

I just bought this, I have some points that I've had for a long time. It's one addicting game, I just played for two hours straight.

YES! I just forged a Godlike item today! Took about an hour..but still. I also got my 5 companions..and defeated that other boss (forget his name)

I'm well on my way of 200 points! \\:D/
even though i have a lvl 50 wizard on the DS version, i want to buy the XBL version so badly, the hell is wrong with me!
Nothing :)

You haven't bought it sooner?

I guess I should buy this. I'm definitely getting EEEEEEEEEEE or whatever the hell it's called this week because I'm a sucker for a custom soundtrack option, so this is going to put a hurtin' on my points cache.

I did get my ass kicked. LOL Good times though

I will be again don't you worry.

this game is way too fun. to those whove finished this, how long is it? at least the quest portion with moderate leveling?

It's at least 30 hours - took me forever to finish the DS game. You can research spells and forge items to extent your playtime even further, too.

Man grab the mirror helm and watch as the creatures deal you damage and they get it a small portion back in return. What's funny is that I'm a druid so I just heal myself haha. Awesome strategy, this reminds me so much of Magic the Gathering.

Wow my 360 just got the RRoD and I just got it back from being repaired from the E74 problem. If Puzzle Quest is like crack then I'm going to be fucked. I can see skulls, coins and gems randomly sometimes.

It took me well over an hour to craft my godlike item. There's just a little too much randomness in the system for some of these minigames to feel skill-based. More of the minigames should be like the capturing minigame, where you have to logically (and sometimes luckily) figure out the right pattern.

On that note, the Liche was a whore to capture.
Slide the +5 skull in the lower left of the box to the left.

Aww, how come the Puzzle Quest discussion died?
C'mon people. TALK ABOUT THIS GREAT GAME!

Today I just earned my 200/200 :applause:.. thank you, thank you.

Almost up to level 48, and I do damn near every side quest, so I should be up to 50 and kicking Bane's ass soon enough.

Hell, if I get bored, I'll just start acquiring the rest of the runes and monster captures. I could use some more godlike items. :D

I decided to take a break from it as I kept fucking up trying to research the "Very Hard" difficulty of spells and after hours of trying I was so annoyed and decided to take a break from it for now. Got the Orange Box and currently playing through it and I plan to finish up Puzzle Quest after that(might just skip the researching the very hard spells altogether).

Great game either way, have easily put in more than 20+ hours already

As much as I have loved this game, the wonderful fight against mother fucking Lord Bane requires a box of condoms. Why? Because I get raped. Repeatedly. And I don't even want to know what STD's a corpse god could give me.

Seriously, this fight is bullshit. I've had 4 or 5 times where I've had him below 40 health and silenced, and yet the random skulls don't pop up until HIS silence ends, and he has too damn much resistance to make any damage spells safe to use.

He will be mine tomorrow.

After playing this game for about 3 days, I have decided the computer is a dirty cheater. It makes me want to throw the disc into the air and shoot it with my Wiimote, but wait it is not a disc...its dl content.

I am taking a vacation from thsi game. When I return, I SHALL BE VICTORIOUS!!!

The computer REALLY pisses me off sometimes, which is why I too have taken a break. Its a really addicting game, but the cheating the computer does is just way too cheap.

Well, the computer is cheap, there is no way around it. It is really annoying the way the computer will make a nonsensical move (take 3 blue mana when it has blue mana, when it's giving up getting skulls on the board). Only to have a bunch of skulls fall, and a 4 of a kind, so it's much better off for the move.

That being said, I just view it as a handicap in the game that you have to overcome. Just have to level up a bit more. Luckily, so many of the side missions have caught my interest enough that I feel well leveled for where I'm at.

Also, when I can find matches online, it's almost more fun to play the game there. If the community was stronger, this could be one of the better reasons to own a XBL gold account. Even now, having to wait 3-4 minutes for a match, it's still great when you get similar level opponents (even with the handicapping, if my level 26 knight goes up against a level 50 character, I get my ass apsolutely handed to me).

There, add me to the 200/200 club. Somehow managed to beat Bane on my first try today, when my 15+ tries last night all failed.

Eh, I'm done with this game. The tedium of that last boss fight just ruined this for me.

I think I'm stuck. I'm trying to rebuild Sartek and I have to go to Methlberg or whatever it is called and I'm not being let in because of my elf friends little issue with the king. Doh.

You could dismiss him from your party, enter, and pick him up afterwards.

Hey, is anyone still playing this?

For those that are/have, how long did it take you for the "God Like Item"? I have the ruins to make it, but I just can't get destroy the anvils. Twice I've gotten down to needing 2 more (after destroying 22) and then losing. Yet, there are other times when I can't destroy one. Is there a strategy to make this more manageable?

The only strategy is patience. Lots of it. I think it took me about an hour.

I guess the problem is that it feels like I've already put well over an hour into it. It's really making me hate the game. Normally, I would blow it off completely, but since I almost have every other achievement (I'm at level 49 right now), I would like to max at least one game that I own.

It's also frustratign when you start one of these, you do 2 moves, and it's over. Come on, someone could have taken a bit of time with this, if it's going to be an achievement.

It took me 6 hours to make my godlike item. I started off loving this game a lot, but by the end of it, everything was basically a crap shoot and i pretty much hate it now.

This is why I'm still 90 of 200 as I belive rushing through a game just kills your experience of it later. I'm enjoying it a lot but yea it gets annoying some times when the computer does a 5 step combo out of the blue. I'm a druid so I can heal most of those craptastic points back...:D

Don't you just love the CPU's move that seems so illogical, but since it knows what's dropping down next from the top, it turns out to be a bad-ass run at your health? :) I'm a druid too, but I'm still researching so I can face Lord Bane without having to wear my butt as a hat.

There are times when fate smiles on me and I wipe out something with at least two heroic efforts, but there are times I get stuck in the "no matter which move I take, the CPU will get to use the skulls against me..." and it can get frustrating... but I think I'm sufficiently addicted to it, because I'm in the mid-40's level-wise... I simply take towns now... and let them revolt for a few turns before going back to reclaim them. ;)

...Fun game... most addictive thing I've played on XBLA in a while... :)

Not long at all actually. My advice is at the start of a screen if you have a good setup or likelihood for lining up three anvils go for it. After the screen resets and you have no anvils or aren't getting many near each other, use a +5 skull to take one out and repeat. Of course a little luck doesn't hurt.

Decided to start playing this again, and I'm having much more fun now. After spending a few hours capturing creatures and training some skills, the cheap AI isn't even a problem. :bouncy:
