Don't buy the Queen Pack if you are a RB3er. They re-released most of 'em with Harmonies and Keys support, and since it's...you know, QUEEN you kind of really want the harmonies.

I'll probably grab the Lady Gaga pack. I was holding out to see if they'd re release them with keys/harmonies, but I am guessing not so much. My wife likes all those songs, and she's secretly in charge. Rock of Ages came out today too normally, so at least I get something.

Yeah, we love Rock Band over here (and we both play instruments, and I came very close to doing so professionally. go figure). I just wish they'd have discounted them more. Oh well, can't argue with savings I guess.

Though I agree: I bet the sales will get better after Summer of Arcade blows over. I'd get Fruit Ninja, but since we are getting Gunstringer regardless I'm going to pass.

It seems kind of funny to me that a couple of months ago PSN was a hot mess and now it's running some damn good sales and we're stuck with xbox originals and rock band songs. I'm not into either, so I guess the positive is that I'm saving money.

At least I have Bastion to occupy me.

I only have one problem with Fruit Ninja Kinect and it's that it relies on a system add-on that not everyone has or cares to own. Also they make you buy this game if you want to take advantage (and I think they'd be taking advantage of you if you bought all of the SOA games) of the buy all the SOA games and get Crimson Alliance free deal.

It's kind of a lose-lose for everyone. If you have a Kinect, you're most likely going to want Gunstringer, which will come with Fruit Ninja for free (assuming Gunstringer gets good reviews.)

So if you want the SoA promotion and have a Kinect, you'll likely end up with two copies of Fruit Ninja. And if you don't have a Kinect you end up with a useless copy of Fruit Ninja.

I sort of wish I had passed on From Dust and gotten out of the SoA promotion. It seems like it will be better on Steam. As it stands since I bought The Bastion from the MS website I'm not even sure I'll qualify for the SoA deal.

I'm pretty sure the Gunstringer only comes with a code for Fruit Ninja? You could trade or sell the code later and you'd probably still be getting a better deal in the end.
I wish the Def Leppard RB stuff had gone on sale on XBLA instead of PSN :(
Where do you see it on sale? It looks like it's the same price on PSN and XBLA.
You're right, it must have been posted just cause it was new. I thought it was posted cause it was a sale.
Good. I would have been annoyed otherwise. :D

Perhaps already mentioned, but Buy.com (on eBay) has 4000 points for $40 right now. Figured it's worth mentioning for those looking to stock up.
Great post!
I agree! A fantastic game, and something everyone should buy. I miss the days of cracking open a beer and playing some pinball at a bar or arcade. Ask a majority of people 18 or younger, and they won't even know what an Arcade is? Sad too. It's very nostalgic to load up Pinball FX 2, and play some pinball.

I picked up the Metallica RB pack (it's not like I need more Metallica though, with GH Metallica and all...but I can't wait to play Justice!). Maybe Megadeth's Rust In Peace album will go onsale sometime soon.

I just played the demo for fruit ninja. It was actually really fun. I bet my son would love it. I wish I could get away with not having to buy it, though. It seems you can only play the trial 3 times, what gives?
Oh, if it comes with a code for the game that would be great. I wasn't aware, just assumed it would be on-disk, thanks.
I assumed it was on disc too. It's much better if it's a code. I really wouldn't want to have to put in a disc just to play a few rounds of Fruit Ninja Kinect on a whim. Either way I'm buying it tonight. :)

Alright I'm playing the Fruity Ninja game and I'm jumping up and down and flailing my arms around in the air but nothing is happening. Do I need a Kinect sensor or something?
Alright I'm playing the Fruity Ninja game and I'm jumping up and down and flailing my arms around in the air but nothing is happening. Do I need a Kinect sensor or something?
Yes...that's why Kinect was in the title of the game

How else is it gonna sense your movements?

Nice...if that is true, it needs to go in someone's signature.

Boy, a lot has happened since my comedic post on Jersey Shore avatar parts. I know this thread gets a lot of activity, once a deal rolls around every Tuesday (formerly Mondays), but this time I may have a bit more to say than usual. I'm sorry for my wordy self, and long posts.
Yeah. Sometimes I skim over legit info because of it
I apologize, reddjoey. Sometimes, I chime in on this thread because I do have some vested interest in DotW (paying for Gold after all :)). If you find my thoughts/opinions are not in line with the thread, pleases send me a message to cease. I try to find out about upcoming deals, but typically others on this thread mention them first. I love what you do for this community, and I do not want to impede your flow of information.
...

I am surprised by the number of cheapos who will buy a $5 piece of DLC that lasts a couple hours but refuse to buy a pinball table with unlimited plays at $3. Yes, most XBLA games are overpriced. That's a difficult to case to argue with Pinball FX 2. Here are a few points to consider for those of you waiting on a sale:

[edited for space]
I think purchases are made upon perceived value at the time or purchase. I basically see it as (price + time)/fun = value. I will buy Guardian Heroes and Radiant Silvergun on release at their full price on release, because I feel they'll be worth it at the time. However, I didn't buy last years Summer of Arcade offers until later, because I did not value those games at 1200MSP, and I was able to wait until they were 600MSP each. Some games I can wait on to be cheaper, some I like too much to wait. Pinball FX2 falls into the former category for me. Pinball FX2 is a game I do want to own, just not for their asking price, but at a lower price point at a later (hopefully soon) time.

I like pinball a lot. I like digital pinball a lot as well. They each have their own advantages and disadvantages. The feel of each experience is different to me, similar to going to an event (such as concerts or sports) opposed to watching it on DVD. Thus, I accept they are both priced differently, yet both experiences individually are still subject to their own value judgement.

We should accept most on this site are CAGs. The magnitude of which is all dependent on the person and of each respective game. We all love to save our money (or Microsoft Points in this case), but not everyone judges value in the same way. Pinball FX2 still has to go on sale for me to bite.
You have to remember why Summer of Arcade exists. Typically during this time period, there are no quality games (mainly b/c most people are on vacations or enjoying the nice weather) coming out so MS saw an opportunity to rake in sale dollars. Now all these companies have to sign a contract with MS and we know MS asks for "exclusivity", but it is very likely the devs ask MS not to run any major sales that could cannibalize the SoA sales. Why would they agree to be in SoA at 1200pts if a quality title is on sale for 800pts? It does really suck for paying Gold members, but that's just business. It's only a few weeks out of the year anyway.
Not defending kvaidair [person you were responding to with this post], but I do not see how mutually exclusive the two offerings are. Why can't I buy both a quality game on release AND something at a deal? It would make me go out and get more MS points.

Sure, it does suck as a Gold Member for me (at least), considering how I evaluate the price of the membership being offset by the amount I save. I sort of wish I could put my membership months on hold instead of having a large contiguous blocks of a year. I understand it is business, which explains why sometimes up to 3 weeks worth of deals are revealed early, while most are left up for "surprise" on Tuesdays. Yet business would also suggest they have no need of offering deals greater than 10% on Deal of the Week, so I still see when we do get a handsome deal of 50% or more, I appreciate it.
No good deals, but that just means I'll be hanging onto my money. No cause to complain.
Exactly my thoughts :applause:. I get to catch up with my backlog. Yet the nagging thought of "Gold Membership fee" makes me view a bad DotW as a loss of money in some way.
Or to put it more simply, SoA or DotW were never created for CAG-minded folks.

You'll keep seeing SoA games because they are very successful and make for good publicity.

And you'll keep seeing "disappointing" DotWs, specifically repeats of popular games and none for more obscure games - because that's what most of the consumer base is interested in, apparently.

Sure, Torchlight has been on sale before, but a repeat sale for it is a lot more likely than a sale for some random shmup, as sad as that may be.
The amount of people who might be interested in it, and missed the last sale (because most people aren't CAGs that check this thread twice a day), is probably a lot bigger than the specific group of people who both like random-shmup AND decided to wait this long for a sale on it.

So whine, be angry, whatever. I do that too, even if not on this thread.
Just don't be surprised every week all over again, or wonder "what the hell are they thinking?". What they are doing seems to work just fine for them, and if you all pass on deals for even a whole month, I doubt they'd notice.

Like reddjoey said, that's just business.
It couldn't hurt to offer a variety covering multiple bases/demographics on sale. Once in a while the deals offered can have some combination for XBLA, DLC, Indie Game, avatar part, maybe even Xbox Original with Games on Demand.

Business is business. That I get, but there's also some credence to stirring up more purchases of some old items which I would imagine can bring in some revenue to those which had their purchases tailed off (like the Booster and Tokyo Club Mix DLC packs for Lumines Live!). Wouldn't getting some money for something which doesn't sell (much) anymore be good business? [Also would like to mention more, but my post has gone on long enough]

I do love me the shooting games (I hate the term "shmup"). That KOF Sky Stage and I will have to stare at one another until it gives in and be 400MSP.

Whew, sorry for the long multi-reply post. That's what happens when I don't check the thread last Tuesday and multiple topics broke out. I would like to close with comments on this week's offering of Fruit Ninja Kinect.

I cannot justify purchasing a peripheral on Child of Eden alone, I refuse to buy the Kinect at this time. Yet, they really should make Kinect work with my cat. That way, maybe at least the cat can enjoy flailing around and I can enjoy watching the cat. I do want to see how ninja it is at fruit swiping. Get to cat-integration Microsoft! I will even make my cat a gamertag, it can login when it shows up and meow to startup a game. Yep, would totally justify a purchase of Fruit Ninja Kinect if those features are added in. :D

I'm not worried about people discussing deals, games, etc. The thread stay on track most of the time, but every so often (especially after a stinker deal is announced) it's a number of reactionary posts. Sometimes I miss legit info in the mix of skimming through all that. If anyone is ever a problem, I would let them or in rare cases a MOD know.

The problem with the current system is MS has more data than we do.

They have a pretty firm grasp on:
-The avg amount of MSP a Gold Member has stored in their account
-The sales spikes of DotW (we could figure this out through leaderboards in theory)
-How many points a member will add to get to a DotW
-How DotW affects sales of other titles released during that week (weak DotW vs a nice one)

With all that it's pretty easy to imagine a scenario where the a person with 1600 MSP is faced with buying a AAA Summer of Arcade XBLA title for 1200MSP or 2 AAA XBLA titles on sale for 1200-1600MSP.

Honestly if the SoA titles weren't so high, I think we would have better deals. However, we might not have as many high quality SoA titles.

Of course this is just my observation and I could be wrong. The person in charge of doing DotW could just take his/her vacation now.

XBL has been good and i've been able to get lots of good-great deals before, especially rb tracks previously but the current ones I realized weren't worth the purchase. The queen tracks have been updated and redone for rb3 so i'll pass, the bon jovi tracks are also (some) updated and redone for rb3.

As for next week, 800 msp for an xbox original game is too much imo as I got gta & halo for 400 msp before. Like others have said, just saving my ms points instead and still gotta think about xbl rewards.

Regarding Black - I'd worry about how well it has or hasn't aged. I remember playing it and being blown away by the graphics when it first came out on Xbox. The catch is, it was mostly the graphics that sucked me in and kept me playing. The gameplay was passable but nothing out of this world. I just think that modern FPS' have better graphics and will make Black seem very dated.

I wonder if I still have my copy at home somewhere...

Okay I admit it I got too far into a rant and didn't think about the business implications of the summer doldrums.

There is one sentiment I object to however:
You sound so entitled it's hilarious.
Steam, PSN and Nintendo owe me nothing until I purchase a game. On XBL I have purchased a gold membership which includes a package of services that include "Exclusive discounts on family-friendly games."

One of the consequences of MS choosing to sell services that others provide for free is that they are in fact obligated to continue providing those services, and I am just as 'entitled' to those services as I am to anything else I have purchased. To be fair however the "deal of the week" is not one of the benefits specifically mentioned on the xbox website.

Hmmm, tempted by the Bon Jovi track pack, but I don't even have Rock Band 3 yet, been waiting to find the keyboard bundle for cheap.

For next week, I've always wanted to play Black, but idk if I'd spend $10 on it. I'd buy Fable if it weren't constantly in stock at best buy for the same price.

As I remember, black is quite good.

You know, Urban Chaos Riot Response should be ported up to Xbox Originals. THAT was a killer PS2/Xbox era shooter.

Anyway, back to the topic, Black is very gun-porn-ish in the focus on heavy, powerful firearms all with double "real life" ammo capacity... though the enemies take loads of damage, so there's that. I'd say it's solid if my memory serves. My only problem was that the checkpoints are sparse as hell and because I was too proud to turn down the difficulty from hard at the last level, I never actually beat it.

By sparse checkpoints I mean, literally, of the hour long last level, I could get 20 minutes in and not see a single checkpoint.

Black was good when I played it in like 2007. I feel like it would still be good, but I can't be sure enough to recommend a purchase for sure. On the other hand, the actual Xbox game can be found cheaper, but not a ton cheaper, so it depends if you prefer a physical or digital version.

Fable I remember as being a bit disappointing but really fun. The first one had a lot of cool stuff, and it would definitely be worth buying in this coming sale (though it might also have a cheaper physical copy available), and I thought it was actually a lot more fun than Fable II. I thought the first Fable had a lot more exploration and experimentation, and the second was more focused on combat and farting in front of NPCs. I can't compare to the third, because I didn't play it, but I would definitely recommend picking up the first if you sort of liked Fable II or are not familiar with the Fable series.

haha i thought it was Torchlight. I said to myself, it was discounted to 800 once maybe its lower.. oops nope its blacklight tango down. some dance game -_-

BTW as far as Fable goes I would rate them

Fable 2 > Fable TLC > Fable >>>>>>>>>>>> Fable 3

Also Fable TLC (The Lost Chapters) has way more content then the regular version of Fable. And can be found for less money. But, if you are just looking to try it out, Fable is still a great game for $10
you do know that this is posted in the xbox sales thread right?
reddjoey didn't update yet, so I wanted to heads up ppl to it. I know it'd eventually get merged.

I'm not sure what is going on. I logged into my main xbl account and I have an extra 2100. My secondary account has 500 points as well. And no it's not from rewards. I only had 300 points pending in one account and 100 points in the other. I think I better spend some points quick :)

is it possible it's from that "purchase a windows live game" or whatever, and get points back?

Nope, been getting ready for finals. I'll update the OP tonight with the drops.
