XBLA - Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 - 400pts

I used to play in tournaments when this came out, this is the first time ive played anything online and some of the responses have been hysterical. First stint was 25-0!
 
been playing...i cant play with some characters any more due to the dpad.. like i suck with the ninjas now.. so i have to get used to shit
 
OK, this game is frikkin awesome! I suggest playing some instrumental music while playing it, when you get the perfect synch of a big violin chord, the very same second you uppercut someone through a ceiling, you'll never look at life the same again, it's so awesome. I finally got the hang of the controls again, since I hadn't played MK3 since the mid 90's. Reptile baby! Come on CAG'ers, add Pierre LaFoon and let's FIGHT!

The only problem I, as well as others, seem to be having is that it's not saving. You'll unlock them...but..when you restart your game (as in exit out of it, then go back) they won't be there.

BTW, I can't seem to find out how to challenge Noob.

guyver2077, how did you get that UMK3 Gamerpic?!?!? As soon as I bought the game, I went to go check to see if the game came with some..and I didn't have any! :(

On a side note: I'd pay 200 points (MAX) for a UMK3 gamer pics.Or even MK3 theme. Mmmm.

I got to Shao Khan, and for some reason, neither of my Reptile Force Balls work. LAME. Always nice when the CPU gets to use ALL their moves against you, but you're limited.

Jump back, and that should get him to jump at you, and then nail him with a jumping kick. Attacking him directly isn't a good idea, since he grabs you and chucks you. But Shao Khan put the beatdown on me oldskool style.
 
I beat Shao Kahn with Scorpion. He's not the character I wanted to use against Noob Saibot, but I couldn't beat Kahn any other way. I just stayed crouching, waiting for him to do that knee-uppercut move, and then I would uppercut him. If he tries to shoulder ram you, use Scorpion's teleport punch. Worked for me.
 
i beat shao khan in the first round and in the second he just shoved me into the corner right away and had his way with me.
 
FINALLY beat that fuck! Does anyone else notice how Motoro's front legs are kinda sexy? He looks like a lady in high heels!

NOW I'm gettin my ass completely RAPED by Shao Kahn.

Just like I remembered it. Great game, still wish we had gotten MK Trilogy instead...would have been the same thing, but with a significant amount of more characters.

Funny how Street Fighter II is pretty universally regarded as the superior series (and I don't really disagree from a "deep gameplay" standpoint), but I'm having a hell of a lot more fun with UMK3 on here than I did with SFII.

Yes, Shao Khan is a prick, especially after you win one round. I usually just stay ducking and try to react with a block in time if he charges. Eventually he'll try the rising kneelift and you can uppercut him, then follow up with either a projectile or combo. If he gets you into the corner though, most of the time you're screwed unless you have amazing timing.

Motaro isn't that difficult, not nearly as hard as Goro or Kintaro in the earlier games. "Stick and move" and don't get too close, counter with an uppercut when he teleports behind you or jumps at you. NEVER use projectiles unless you are Scorpion using the spear.

It was that way in the original too...be glad he doesn't reflect them like Motaro!

Turning down the music from Mortal Kombats 1-3 is grounds for arrest in 38 of the 50 United States.

Plus, it's just so GOOD.

did jade always have that returning boomerang move... i honestly dont remember.. wasnt it just the high one and low one.i thought it was a glitch or something....

Wait, that fucking sucks that they aren't saving... I only have one controller, and I could borrow my friend's only controller to do this, but if they aren't saving that blows giant ass.

Ok, so you need to do the 10 win achievment for it?

I can't! Whenever I try to play RANKED matches I get the message that the session has ended. I've played a few player matches though. But the achievment says "10 RANKED wins" :(

To get the gamer pic you need to win 10 ranked matches. Just create a match and dont hit ready until someone comes, usually doesnt take too long.

Isn't there a Kombat Kode in 2player vs that "Winner Faces..." and Noob can be one? ALSO: Doesn't this work in Tournament mode? Win the tournament then figh Noob?

I really want to like MK3, and I do. For the first two fights. The difficulty from the third fight (on any tier) on is just staggeringly different from the first two. Roughly 60% of the moves I try in that fight on are instantaneously reacted to by the single precise move that is a perfect counter to it, each and every time.

If I throw a iceball as Sub-Zero, Liu Kang will throw a low fireball, Jade will use her invulnerability (*as* she runs towards me), Scorpion will use his warp punch, and so on.

It's goddamned frustrating, and it ceases to be fun. I can't even beat the Endurance round on novice for this reason. The game can be fun, and is fun, in XBL matches. My desire to try to get all the achievements for single player though is going to be a massive exercise in frustration.

It's an enjoyable game overall, but the clearly poor substitution of these kinds of behaviors for something resembling "AI" in the game is just unexcusable. Even if it is, as a result of its inclusion, "arcade perfect." It's goddamned cheap, I tells ya.

I just played him, and he whiped the floor with me, Fatalities included, with no less than 7 different characters. And I am probably an Average UMK3 player. This man is godlike. Play him, you WILL lose.
 
The funny thing is, even though I never beat Kahn, the only perfect round I got the whole Tournament, was against him...
