XBLIG Price Drops

CAGiversary!

Since Microsoft recently changed their pricing structure for Xbox Indies, larger games can can now be sold for 80 MSP. As a result, many XBLIG devs have opted to drop the price of their games. I thought it would be pretty cool to have a thread that would try to track what WORTHWHILE games are now cheaper.

DISCLAIMER: Yes, I know that Xbox Indies is a largely horrifying wasteland of shovelware and absolute garbage like "Avatar Zombie Massager" and "Look I Made a One Level Platformer with MS Paint!!!". (There's really no need to elaborate on it further, we all know this.) But there ARE some good games in the pile. And I'd like to keep the thread focused on those, if possible.

DISCLAIMER 2 (The More Important One):
Xbox Live Indie Games require an internet connection to start the game. It doesn't matter if you have a Silver (Free) or Gold account, just that the Xbox is connected to the internet. Again, this is only to start the game; once the game is running you can disconnect your Xbox, but not sign out of your profile.

This seems pretty interesting: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/17/indie-devs-launching-xblig-app-for-wp7-because-ms-hasnt/

"The XBLIG Companion scrapes the RSS feeds of XboxIndies.com and gathers the XML and CSV data for every applicable game, updating the app's listings as the games are updated themselves. XBLIG Companion will offer easy browsing of Xbox Indie Games' selection and will allow users to purchase games for their consoles directly from their phones."

I kinda want to try it out since I have a windows phone.

If anyone has a bloodycheckers code to spare, i'd like to give it a try since everyone is raving about it

thanks in advance

It's only $1.. why not support the creator and buy it?

I've been playing the single player campaign this weekend some more and finally got around to writing a basic review. I have submitted it for publication. Will post a link when it is up, thanks Kilroyfx for a truly unique gaming experience!

lol forget you guy. go buy the damn thing its cheaper than buying a McChicken (after tax)

BTW the training mode in bloody checkers is fantastic. you'd think you wouldnt need it for that sort of game, but i've gotten my ass handed to me on a bloody platter too many times to count already before i started using it.

didnt have any points and didnt plan on buying a 1600 card anytime soon. If i had points to spare than i'd gladly do it. Just figured if codes were being given out to give it a shot.

Relax buddy lol, i was simply asking. It was worth a shot to just ask. If codes were being given out then I was just seeing if I could get one. Like I said no points at the moment but if I did then I would gladly support. Just was seeing if I could get the game now

bing.com is your friend for these indie games.

@clearM3 Hi !! THanks for the interest in BloodyCheckers....I would totally give you a free CODE but I gave all of them out already. You might have some luck on GAMEFAQS some really loyal gamers over there are giving out 100 ms point codes if you promise to get the game :)

@shivan128 Hey thanks for the review, give us a LINK so we can read it , the support has been LEGENDARY, I never expected this kind of response....I just hammered away at the keyboard for months on end....trying to make a fun adventure:)

Very cool stuff !!

Wish Iris 2.0 would go on sale. $3 aka 240 msp for a virtual music player is too high in my blood. I like how you can customize skins and all, but realistically i'll never do it.

did anyone else notice that microsoft gave indie games its own section again? its about time after the horrendous treatment the original update gave it.

Yes, but I also noticed that sorting by user rating seems more hidden now.
wait so is that kickstarter for a sequel? what exactly is it for?
BloodyCheckers uses the engine to be used in a full-fledged rpg adventure that'll probably be a really weird and totally awesome Kings Field. He's using Schafer's idea to see if it'll actually work to back completely new devs and ideas. I'm really hoping the community backs him, this can be big for the XBLiG scene...

Exciting stuff happening ^_^

Not to take anything away from Tim Schafer's accomplishment, but he and his company Double Fine were hardly the first to use Kickstarter to fund a video game; they're just the most famous/biggest. Another notable Kickstarter project was about a year ago when XBLIG developer Robert Boyd requested funding to enhance his game Cthulhu Saves the World for Xbox and port it to PC:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/744735150/cthulhu-saves-the-world-enhanced-version-for-pc-an

I think the Bloody Castle kickstarter page should mention Bloody Checkers. It will give kickstarters an idea of what kilroyfx is capable of, that he's finished a game before, the game's been successful, etc. Not everyone that comes across his kickstarter page will have heard of Bloody Checkers. Plus, people could test out the Bloody Checkers engine on XBLIG. At worst, it would provide additional exposure to his existing game.

Still waiting for my review of bloodycheckers to be approved, wonder what the hold up is! I actually made a reference to king's field a while back in this thread and how bloody checkers reminded me of the series!

If it's a GameFAQs review, they're apparently on a light publishing schedule for the remainder of the month. You can always see how many user reviews are on their backlog by checking your Contributor Page, last time I checked it was a pretty long list.

@shivan128 Not sure why your review has not come out yet...bummer. Also I swear I mentioned BloodyCheckers in with the BloodyCastle kickstarter project...I will do so today !!

I am not asking for a lot of $$$, that's what I need to pay my bills for a year, I am still hurting from putting in 1.5 years into BloodyCheckers but its worth the final result for sure.

If a couple thousand people put in a couple bucks, then I could do this without so much stress :) But, i will most likely do it anyway without the funding.
Come and help promote BloodyCastle!!!
I pledged on the Kickstarter the minimum amount to get the game ($5).

Thinking about what additional bonuses kilroyfx could offer for the other donation tiers. They should be things that add value to the donor without costing kilroyfx too much:
 • A copy of BloodyCheckers in addition to BloodyChess. The copy could be a download code for those who don't have it yet, or the donor could give it away to a friend if they already own the game.
 • A chance to play BloodyCheckers and/or BloodyChess with kilroyfx online. I know he already does this frequently with BloodyCheckers players, but this could be for a scheduled time/minimum length instead of just hoping to bump into him randomly in the game.
 • Access to beta versions. I don't think this is possible with XBLIG, since only other developers can playtest an incomplete game, as far as I can tell. Maybe something to keep in mind if a PC port is planned later?

XBLIG Developers are only given a total of 50 codes (Killroyfx will correct me if I'm wrong) to give out for their game. Any developer that actually markets their game runs out rather quickly usually.

Also Killroy, glad to see you have a site now. All indie developers should!

Hey everyone, quite a few people have posted here about writing up a review for such and such XBLIG, so just throwing it out there, I am constantly looking for new writers for my site and we do like to cover indie games whenever possible. Also looking for people who have an interest in posting news about indie games (we used to cover gaming news in general but it is time consuming and hard for us to compete with the big guys, so I've been considering going back to covering news stuff but with a focus on indie games). There is a link in my sig and a big advertisement about looking for writers if a anyone is interested.

Posting limits on GameFAQs are silly.... you gotta make a new topic every 500 posts!

Here is the new link for the continued BloodyCheckers discussion we have been having there.

I might grab beat Hazard. It's pretty fun on my iPad/iPhone. Only downside to the XBLIG version is I have to then load music onto my Xbox, which I have absolutely no interest in doing otherwise. What formats does the Xbox support? Does it support iTunes format? If it doesn't than all that converting I'd have to do would be a deal killer. Not up to doing that just for Beat Hazard.

According to CaPwnD of GameFAQs, you can use Airmusic to stream from your iPod/iTouch/etc into the game.

It also gives you the option to stream from your PC into the game.

I opted to rip a few cd's onto my HDD yesterday as I have been wanting to try out the custom music modes in E4 and Space Invaders: Infinity Gene for a while now as well.
Updated the OP. Beat Hazard is now $1. I hate my job. That is all.
Thanks for the heads up! I've been waiting to get this game for a while now; I really like the included songs. INSTA-BUY!

As a fan of twin stick shooters, I recently emailed Nova Leaf (via their website) asking if they were considering dropping the price on Biology Battle. To me this game has the potential to compete with tier 1 arcade games like Geometry Wars. I have not heard back yet...

My 5 year old son got a kick out of the Apple Jack demo, and he ended up spending $1 of his own money to buy it. There's a lot of good stuff in XBLIG for little kids.

Woah. I didn't know about that app. Kind of cool, but not sure if I'd use it outside of Beat Hazard. We have a computer hooked up to our stereo that has all our music on it, so no need for just playing music via Airmusic. Heck, the app now costs 3x the price of the game. LOL. Still, I might give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up on that.
Nice, in for Beat Hazard.
Anyone know what the difference is between PSN's Beat Hazard Ultra?
Anyone know what the difference is between PSN's Beat Hazard Ultra?
If the Steam version is the same, it has some new features:

 • Power-up with 3 new tactical weapons: Micro Missiles, Reflect Shield and Ultra Beam.
 • Online play; Co-op and Head to Head
 • New bosses and enemy ships
 • New perk system with 3 kick ass weapon upgrades
 • Boss Rush Mode
 • New achievements & Leaderboards
 • 1.5 hours of cool new Indie tracks
 • And now turn it up to 200% visual feedback! Yikes! (Or turn it down to 50% if you wish)

Side note: Another awesome shooter, Orbitron: Revolution, is now $1

Nice, I reviewed this game recently and really the main fault with it was the price (compared to other games on the service). It's a fantastic looking game. My Review, if anyone is interested.

GREAT review and interview... had no idea about the music. Really excited to give this game some attention later tonight.

Also, I gotta start taking part in your contests. I would LOVE to give away some of these codes on GFAQs in order to help generate a little more buzz ^_^

Heh, I suppose if you want to turn around and give your game away again that's fair, though you could always point people on GFAQ to our contest!

Speaking of... we just posted our review for Cro-Mag Rally Extreme! including a contest for 2 copies of the game!

Also, glad to see people buying games in part from our reviews, that's why we do what we can to help highlight the good XBLIG's.

Entry Here !!

Thanks for the awesome support for "Bloodycheckers"
Thanks Kilroy, I entered and I got a friend to enter. Just 1 question, are we supposed to press the Upload button under our photo or the submit button at the bottom or are they both the same?

PS you might want to make a post under contests if possible? (I don't know if you can do that)
