XBLIG Price Drops

CAGiversary!

Since Microsoft recently changed their pricing structure for Xbox Indies, larger games can can now be sold for 80 MSP. As a result, many XBLIG devs have opted to drop the price of their games. I thought it would be pretty cool to have a thread that would try to track what WORTHWHILE games are now cheaper.

DISCLAIMER: Yes, I know that Xbox Indies is a largely horrifying wasteland of shovelware and absolute garbage like "Avatar Zombie Massager" and "Look I Made a One Level Platformer with MS Paint!!!". (There's really no need to elaborate on it further, we all know this.) But there ARE some good games in the pile. And I'd like to keep the thread focused on those, if possible.

DISCLAIMER 2 (The More Important One):
Xbox Live Indie Games require an internet connection to start the game. It doesn't matter if you have a Silver (Free) or Gold account, just that the Xbox is connected to the internet. Again, this is only to start the game; once the game is running you can disconnect your Xbox, but not sign out of your profile.

I gave it a very favorable rating on gamefaqs. Dont have the time right now to write a review, but i'll try to get to it over the weekend!
Well, kilroy has done it again.

I have been discussing a very cool idea I had with him, and he is going to implement it into a future update of BloodyCheckers:

He's adding some of us to the game.

Sometime very soon, he will be providing details on a contest where 10 of us will be added as AI opponents to this awesome, awesome game.

I have started up a hype train on GameFAQs... if any of you have accounts there, please come and join in on the fun!
Epic!

Pretty excited about this one! :booty:
Thanks for all the support and chatter !!

** WANT TO BE A CHARACTER IN BLOODYCHECKERS ?? **

I will put as many gamers into the castle as possible, down certain hallways and creepy rooms....where they will have their own portrait and you can play them in checkers. The gamers can have a REAL pic of themselves with a nice description of "How and When they Died" .....

Once you enter their world (of their choice) you will play them in a super violent form of Medieval Checkers, full of pretty graphics and blood.....they will attack you and give you treasure should you defeat them !! Brag to your friends that you are in an Indie Game.

To Enter : I will need a form that can be filled out that will let you select all the proper
attributes for your AI character. Also I need an upload button to submit your photo or pic 180x220 resolution.

Anyone have an WAY to create a form? I can try Google Docs, and then have you email me the JPEG of yourself :) I will try to choose as many gamers as possible, and then on my next Update I will have added the new Halls, Rooms and Floors to the castle.

** WANT TO BE A CHARACTER IN BLOODYCHECKERS ?? **

If this goes well, then maybe I will do it again.

Cheers !!

Truly epic.

To be honest, UTStick01 needs to get in there....he posted about it here first and really got me interested.

** Next Update, you might become a Portrait in "BloodyCheckers" **

In a few weeks I will host a contest to allow 25 Gamers to become permanent residents in the game "Bloodycheckers" as an Enemy (NPC) Portrait - located somewhere in the Halls of the Castle. From then on, gamers around the world will have to face your NPC in the halls of the castle in order to proceed.

Your picture will be framed in a gold portrait, with your char's name (or your name) and a description of how/when you died etc....After receiving at least 200 entries, 25 completed entries will be chosen at random.

Here is a sample entry link. This is temporary, and will not count as a submission, I will announce the date and link at a later time.

Enter the Contest Here -->

That's very cool Killroy :applause: So to be clear, we should NOT enter our info on that site, you're just showing us what it will be like?

Man what an awesome idea.

You can enter your info on that FORM if you want, as only a TEST to make sure it works, but you will have to enter the Contest again in a few weeks....I would like some feedback on that form since this is a bit new to me. Also I want to test getting all that info organizing including the JPEG photos uploaded/downloaded to make sure everything works !!

And, this idea was brought to you by Gabrius, it was not my idea !! But I think it's a great idea, and that's what this is all about...taking feedback from GAMERS and listening, then responding to those great ideas !!

The form worked fine for me, I actually sent it without realizing it was a test form. I'll resubmit whenever the contest starts.

Ok, Plan for this Contest/Submission to officially start March 1st. I will run the FORM continuously for 4 weeks, at the end of the month I will publish the winners.

I will only cancel the contest if I do not receive enough applicants, and/or sales do not cover the cost of running the contest and programming the Update. I honestly feel if 200 people apply that should easily fund this event, and if this works I will do more in the future.

please test out this form so I can work out the kinks...

Enter BloodyCheckers -->

Filled out the form. Was it a test/fake only? I can do another in March if I have to, I just hope I remember the info I submitted.

You've made another sale today, Kilroy. I played through the demo until timout twice throughout the past year, just never got around to buying it. With the new update I definitely want to see all it has to offer now. I see you've changed the boxart, too. The new "The big fat castle adventure" tagline should attract new customers so they don't think it's just a British board game.

Awesome thanks !! Really great to hear, the new artwork really signifies how huge the update actually is....and I think it will breathe new life into the game. I spent 3 months looking at the game and fixing a lot of problems with it.....it really is a lot of fun. I think gamers really need to know that it is a castle RPG adventure

Okay, I played a bit of the BloodyCheckers demo and I don't quite get the appeal.

On the bright side, Dead Pixels is a LOT more fun than a game as simple as it has any right to be. A perfect example of a game only worth $1 but still worth every penny of that dollar. A good timewaster that I will never play again but definitely worth it.

Escape Goat is also fantastic in ways I didn't think an indie platform puzzler that wasn't Toki Tori or Fizzwizzle could be. I am amazed. My only problem? I'd rather have the PC version when it arrives.

just bought BloodyCheckers and the dude who made it messaged me and was watching me play for a little but...it's an amazing game which I would of paid 39.99 for if anything you owe it to yourself to try this game...I have not played checkers in years and this is an amazing twist on it along with an amazing castle RPG adventure.

now to brush up on my checker skills lol
Hi, I'm RollingSkull, it's nice to meet you!
Heh I'm just playing with you... I know what it's like to be the person with all the unpopular opinions.

On BloodyCheckers... I can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I love this game is the sheer over-the-top way it handles, well, everything. The humor is very clever, the sound and graphical effects are hilarious... this game makes me laugh when I play it, something that I can't say about many games at all nowadays. You can tell kilroy had a blast making this game.

Is it the greatest game ever created? No, not at all. It is entertaining? Absolutely. More so than 99% of the other games I have been playing lately.

Finally played Little Racers Street last night. It could use some more structure to it, but it is definitely fun, there's lots of cars to buy/upgrade and the graphics are great. The online races work quite well too. Definitely a winner for 80 points. I do see some slowdown on occasion when playing the campaign races, at least. Stuttering for a few seconds. Just every once in a while, not all the time.

@pedrobeara Yeah I was curious how well you were navigating the castle !! Thanks so much for the support, and it will take 20-30 hours for you to complete the campaign - so enjoy :)

The GameFAQs thread has seemed to be a success so far, as a lot of people are reporting in after they make the purchase.

Kilroy, have you seen any jump in your sales to confirm this? I want to do everything possible to make sure we hit 200 names for the contest - I wanna be in the game!!!!

Gabrius should circumvent the rules and get a spot because it was pretty much his idea

I just put in a good word on my facebook account. I dont have a lot of gamer friends, but I do have a bunch of friends that play facebook apps who may have other friends that play.

Thanks for the amazing support, it's been truly great to see such interest in an Indie Game. So far so good, I am seeing a increase in downloads from around the world. Also next week there should be an interview and a push for the contest [marketing].

The Submission Form is ready, and everything I think you need to know is here ..
please take a look, familiarize yourself --> Contest

And there are 2 Gamers who have been instrumental in the push for the Contest and Bloodycheckers, and they will be rewarded so don't worry !! Since I work alone, it's easy to make these things happen !!

Hey Kilroy, the GameFAQs review finally got posted. Seems to be a success so far, in fact it's received more hits in 24 hours than any other indie game review I've done to date. Hope it helps.

I've been spreading the word of BloodyCheckers in real life as well as on the internet and have convinced quite a few people to play the demo, and most bought it.

In other news, I have 124 Bing Reward points. Darn it, I have to wait a whole other day to get a new Indie game? Cursssessss.

Is this the real form!? It's getting confusing!

Well when you click on the "Form" it says that its just the test form and that the REAL form entry will start on March 1st.

Drat.... how am I going to remember everything that I just wrote up?

I'll submit it as many times as needed, damnit!!! You will all know the wrath of Gabrius very soon ^_^

Copypasta the info you come up with in a notepad document or the likes. Then just plug it all back when the form is live.

I now know just how much I suck at checkers. I have absolutely no strategy. Chess on the other hand, I can do alright with; I can usually beat anyone under the age of 12. :)

Tutorials from the game really help!! I'm really glad I tried them out first before going farther into the game! It will give you some basic strategies and probably rules you didnt know about (for example having to jump a checker if you can do so).
Are there any new price drops of note? Perhaps everything that was going to drop already has?
Microsoft changed their pricing scheme on 1/4/2012, and there's a 90 day waiting period between price changes, so some games are not yet eligible for the price drop. Once 4/4/2012 comes around, every game that's eligible for the 80 MSP price will have had an opportunity to list at that price.

Even then, there's always the potential for a developer to drop the price on their game. Perhaps they want to wait until sales are under a certain amount before dropping their price. Or they want to launch a title at a higher price point, then drop the price later.

That said, price drops of note are going to be less frequent going forward. With the initial announcement, there was about 5 years worth of games that could potentially drop their price. So the price drops due to the new guidelines were bound to be front-loaded.

If Flotilla drops to a buck it'll sell like crazy, that game is really good. I'll bet its mostly rated 4 stars because of the $5 price tag.

Hey thanks again for the amazing support !! I gave out all my free codes for "BloodyCheckers" , but I would easily put a few more free codes on this site.

I have seen/played so many of you guys online it's been a blast !! I am currently working on the next Update, and roaming the Castle at the same time :)

I just submitted my review for the game, should be up shortly... I'll provide a link when it shows up.

HERE it is!

It's been a slow week. I did add two shooters that dropped to 80 MSP: Pellmell and Devilsong. But one had meh reviews and I couldn't even find any reviews of the other one.

That's a great review !! Thanks so much for the support for "BloodyCheckers"..... seems like a lot of people are getting it....I will have to give out more FREE copies :)

When you're ready to do that, PM me a couple and I'll distribute them. I'll make sure that as many people as possible get exposure to your awesome game during the process.

...I have learned over this past week that I should've gone into advertising, I seem to have a real knack for it ^_^

I looked into Devilsong for the XBLIG Spotlight column cause it looked great and I'm a sucker for space combat games but it was a little lack luster. Especially at 240msp. Now that it's down to 80 I'll take another look at it. Thanks for the heads up.

Speeking of space combat, well sort of, giving away the game Orbitron Revolution this week (which by the way, I know it's 240msp but everyone should check out this game just to see how crazy good it looks). Link is in my sig.

So far, the response continues to be absolutely amazing !! 100's of new people every day are trying out the game, and as we get closer to March I will begin preparation for 25 gamers to become permanent residents of the Creepy Castle !!

I love to see veteran gamers helping new comers to the game, by answering their questions etc... I hope everyone gets a chance to try the game before the contest begins, at the end of March I will randomly choose 25 gamers. I will also try to add new content.
