Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

*My random thought*

They are really trying to bring back the core audience the lost to the ps4. A lot people in the gaming sub-culture don't really appreciate f2p games enough for their to be focus at E3.

Microsoft > Ubisoft > EA > Sony
Yeah Major Nelson showed that Happy Wars is coming to Xbox One on the Pre-E3 show.
I rolled my eyes, couldn't care less, eh game's alright, and glad they didn't include that with the big main show.

Yeah that's how I sit too:
Microsoft > Ubisoft > EA > Sony
im tempted to trade in my 360 copy for next gen version
Saves transfer, so go ahead. Nice to know my Adder will be waiting for me when GTA Online comes to One. :whistle2:D

This holiday Microsoft looks to have the stronger first party line up. It's basically Forza vs Drive Club, and DC didn't get any videos or details at Sony's conference which should be worrying. Then Microsoft has an edge because they have two games being Sunset Overdrive, and Halo Master Chief Collection, versus Little Big Planet 3.

Obviously there's downloadable games, and Indie games but I didn't see a lot of release dates for games of those categories for either platform.
Shouldn't you count Last of Us remastered in there? Seems to me they are pretty equal, maybe with the Masterchief collection giving Microsoft the slight edge.

Ubisoft > Sony = Microsoft >>>>>>>>>>>> EA

Not sure how anyone is putting EA ahead of anybody, that conference was borderline unwatchable and saying it was better than Sony is just the inner fanboy coming out. Take out the 20 minute lull and it was as impressive as Microsofts, taken from GAF:

Rundown of both pressers, should be accurate. Bolded are "new" announcements (some were leaked).

Microsoft
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - gameplay
Forza Horizon 2 - trailer, exclusive
Evolve - trailer
Assassin's Creed Unity - gameplay
Dragon Age: Inquisition - trailer
Sunset Overdrive - gameplay, exclusive
Dead Rising 3 DLC - announcement trailer
Fantasia Music Evolved
Dance Central: Spotlight - announcement, exclusive
Fable Legends - gameplay, exclusive
Project Spark - trailer, exclusive
Ori and the Blind Forest - announcement, gameplay trailer, exclusive
Halo The Master Chief Collection - lots of stuff, exclusive
Halo 5: Guardians, exclusive

Indie Reel
Rise of the Tomb Raider - announcement trailer
The Witcher 3 - gameplay
Phantom Dust - CG announcement trailer, exclusive
The Division - gameplay
Scalebound - CG announcement trailer, exclusive
Crackdown - CG announcement trailer, exclusive

Sony
Destiny - trailer
The Order 1886 - gameplay, exclusive
Entwined - announcement, gameplay, exclusive
Infamous DLC - announcement trailer
LittleBigPlanet 3 - announcement, gameplay, exclusive
Bloodborne - CG announcement trailer, exclusive
Far Cry 4 - gameplay
Dead Island 2 - CG trailer
Magicka 2 - announcement trailer, exclusive
Grim Fandango remaster - announcement, exclusive
Indie Reel
Let It Die - live action announcement trailer, exclusive
Abzu - announcement trailer
No Man's Sky - gameplay
Mortal Kombat X - gameplay
The Last of Us remaster
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - trailer
GTAV remaster - announcement trailer
Batman: Arkham Knight - gameplay

----

I think both were basically a wash in terms of game content, Sony just kind of killed their momentum with non-game talk in the middle.

You'd have to be a huge fanboy to say Sony did good. Their conference was a complete joke. Little Big Planet was the only decent thing they showed, everything else was third party and CGI, not to mention that TV and Movies portion was a trainwreck. If Microsoft showed that they would have been laughed out of E3 but when Sony shows it they get a free pass and that makes me sick.

Sony had 3 big surprises in the Infamous stand alone dlc, Little Big Planet 3 and Grim Fandango, Microsoft had zero. The 3rd party gameplay shown was for better games and for gameplay never seen, nothing has been shown of Far Cry 4, Batman or Mortal Kombat X before Sony's show, the same can't be said for what Microsoft showed. Cut out the lull and the Sony show was great.

Microsoft had Halo Master Chief Edition rumors were still torn if it was going to be just Halo 2 or what it was going to be and they unveiled the full line up with over 100 multiplayer maps, then they also had the exclusive Platinum Games IP. Call of Duty looked great and they showed more Sunset Overdrive along side some Indie Games and I believe some of them were exclusive.

DLC Isn't exactly something to be getting excited over, Little Big Planet 3 was easily the best thing of the night, and I never even played the original Grim Fandango but that game isn't even a PS4 exclusive. Better third party is subjective because I thought COD and ACU were excellent games to show.

Then Sony went past the point of no return and started talking about Movies, and Television which nobody gives a crap about. Not to mention their new CEO is dull as hell to listen to which only made it worse.

In all honesty I just don't see how you can say Sony did a better job. What exactly did they have that was so exciting? We knew Project Beasts, and UC4 were coming and only got CGI trailers for them, The Order looked disappointing to me and I know I'm not the only one because Neogaf blew up when the "gameplay" trailer was shown. Sure they focused on a lot of Indie Games but none of them appeared to be exclusive to the system. Playstation TV is hardly anything to get excited about especially when it was bittersweet since they pretty much confirmed the Vita is dead, I mean they even took the "Vita TV" name out of it.

(Edit) Forgot to mention GTA5 which once again wasn't a huge announcement, and seeing the full trailer it's clear Sony just cut out the Xbox and PC logo's I bet the game wasn't even running on a PS4 itself. The Last of Us also seems to have a delayed launch since it isn't adding anything new it's just an HD remake of the game itself, and once again they showed NO gameplay and only focused on a cinematic trailer. I mean if the game is supposedly so visually updated why wouldn't you show that?

I thought what Sony showed was strong, but you put too much stock in "surprises". Weigh the line up versus the line up.

And on that topic, why didn't Microsoft announce GTAV? Is that some deal Sony worked out?

I'm sure there was a deal, just like they had the PS3 bundle. Playstation seems to love their GTA. Looks like another Diablo III announcement where they try to hoodwink people into thinking it is exclusive, but at least we didn't have to wait months for the dev to confirm it on other platforms. Doesn't matter to me where it gets announced as long as I get to play it.

if the sony show was terrible than the mircosoft one was too.

Both were pretty good imo. Its not like either were shocking although LBP3 was a pretty be shocker.

The shock announcements at E3 have become a thing of the past for the most part. E3 is still an important event, but not really the video game super bowl thing it once was. I think they both did what they needed to do in their respective press conferences, but Microsoft's was tighter and was a massive improvement over last year.

I'm looking forward to see what the other developers have in store for E3.

Finally watching videos of the upcoming games.

I gotta say, these things make Titanfall look like a 360 title graphically.

Seriously I was just watching game trailer's commentary of Sony's E3 event on Twitch and it was pretty bad, they all agreed. Hilarious at how pissed off they were about it, they're like "it's all about the games, and here's something else" Brandon from GT was like "why did you just say it's all about the games". He also pointed our that they felt awkward every time someone on stage laughed or tried to throw in a joke. Then there was Sony's President that went on and on and the GT guys were like yeah wtf was Powers?! Yeah Sony face planted this year. Microsoft had a consistent showing with a ton of games, no vita TV, no movies, none of the filler! It's gonna be an awesome fall season!

Yeah my guess is due to GTA's roots on Playstation, it's always been a strong relationship on that platform. Glad GTA V current gen version is finally official.

If you compared them List by List for 2014 it would be as followed.

Microsoft:

Forza Horizon 2. (Not Xbox One exclusive)

Halo Collection.

Sunset Overdrive.

Ori & The Blind Forest.

Fantastia. (Love it or hate it you have to count it)

Dance Central Spotlight.

Fable Legends. (Only through the closed beta This Fall)

Finally Project Spark appears to be getting significant updates as they showed. (Not Xbox One Exclusive)

Sony:

Little Big Planet 3.

Drive Club.

Infamous First Light Standalone DLC.

The Last of Us Remastered.

Entwined. (Launched Today)  (Currently PS4 Exclusive however PS3, and Vita versions in works alongside Mobile)

Helldivers. (Not PS4 Exclusive)

Hohokum. (Not PS4 Exclusive)

Any other announcements at either's conferences aren't exclusive towards the console families and I didn't include.

In terms of presentation, I would say Ubisoft takes first, Microsoft takes second, Sony takes third, and EA is last. (screw EA)

In terms of content, I would say Sony is first, Ubisoft is second, Microsoft is third, and EA is last. (seriously, screw EA)

Sony had far more tangible content and game-play demonstrations. Their conference with filled with in-game footage, and promises of titles that will come out in the next 12 months.

Ubisoft's conference also focused on upcoming games, and shied away from touting games that are much farther down the line. The few titles from Ubisoft that aren't on the horizon, (such as Dead Island 2) were showcased with humorous videos. Also, the choice of song for the Assassin's Creed trailer was fantastic.

Microsoft had a much tighter focus on games. But a large number of the titles they "revealed" were all pre-rendered cinematics for titles that are in the infancy of development. While it is exciting to know that some of these promised products are in the pipeline, we will be seeing them again in future E3s, possibly more than one. I can't give full marks for projects so early on.

Seriously, screw EA. I played all the way through Dead Space 3. Screw EA.

Sorry but Bloodborne shits on ms conference alone. And i like how all over the internet right down to this site, you have people begging and whining wanting Sony to bring the Vita Tv to the US. Then when they have a spot in the show to officially announce that its coming stateside its held against them by these same tards because it wasn't game play, fuck outta here.

Bloodborne is pretty fantastic and definitely the main reason I'm getting a PS4 but It's still not out till 2015. I still think MS has the better line up for this year. They are definitely going to have to pull a killer E3 next year to compete with Sony next year if Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne stay delay free.

Vita TV I had a lot of interest with but two things bother me still 1) The price is great, but the bundle doesn't come with a DS4 controller. I'd rather get the newest Dual Shock since I plan on getting a PS4 and not a PS3 in the future. 2) Lots of games can't be played AFAIK namingly the big ones - Tearaway nominated for GOTY in 2013, Gravity Rush and Uncharted to name a few because the controller can't emulate the touch pad.

In the end it doesn't really matter who did better because there are a lot of good games coming out for both systems. You only win if you own both or maybe all three systems. Can't wait to see what Nintendo has tomorrow!

But I think one thing we can all agree about is:

Phil Spencer >>> Shawn Layden

if #IDARB turns out to be fun, I might have to get more controllers. 8 player local multiplayer sounds intense. I also want to know more about the twitter integration thing...apparently people can tweet certain hashtags that affect your game. Should be fun for twitch streamers where the fans are changing things on the fly.

Look at the bottom two lines of this pic

Absolutely love SO but it is not the type of game that will be a big time seller. I think similar sales figures to Infamous SS would be a victory for them. I hope I am wrong but I think MC Collection will be the best selling X1 exclusive this year. We can keep talking about these new IPs and games all we like but the gap between COD, AC, GTA, BF, Halo and everything else (sans Nintendo exclusives) is pretty massive.

Rewatching the trailer for Sunset Overdrive.

Wow, that game looks so damn fun. I am buying a X-One to play with my GF online because she is getting one, but Sunset Overdrive and Forza 5 are System Sellers for me.

I hope we can still drive in 3rd person view... I find 1st person view to be highly unrealistic. Specifically, in real life I can see cars in my peripheral vision; not possible on a flat screen. And I don't want to be checking mirrors when I'm flying down a road.

Of course you can.

I'm not sure if anyone "won" E3 but I will give Microsoft credit for a strong showing. They certainly seem to be meeting and somewhat exceeding expectations. I already have a PS4 and was not sure I was going to buy an XB1 (despite having about $500 in Target credit still) but their reveals (particularly Master Chief, which was basically just a confirmation of rumors) definitely have me closer to getting an XB1.

I don't think Sony necessarily whiffed it and I'm not upset in already owning a PS4 but it certainly wouldn't have done much in swaying me into it if I didn't already own one.

Yeah, the whole "winning" E3 thing is kind of subjective. If someone isn't interested in the games one conference has, but does in another, the one they prefer is the "winner". Microsoft didn't show much that I was interested in, and I was let down from it, but Im not going to downplay the conference because I know many people liked it.

For the most part, E3 brought it this year. Definitely gonna pick up the Master Chief collection, PS4 is in my sights once Bloodborne lands and...gasp...am even considering a Wii U for next year.

I definitely saw the new Corvette in red in person and it is beautiful.

It reminds me of my red carbon fiber hockey stick.

Also I want Phantom Dust, Scalebound, and the MCC.  Everything else is awesome bonuses.

When I buy an Xbox One I'll have Crim Dragon too.

Do you need to have the disc to access halo 5 beta or is it a voucher to redeem?
If I had to guess, I'd say voucher. And I would expect the Halo 5 beta to be multi-player only. Nothing wrong with that, it's what you really need out of a beta anyway.

While the Halo collection is going to be a bit derivative, I don't personally have any objection. As a game collector, I have no issue with re-packagings and re-masterings. I love old games, and love any opportunity to have them taken back out and polished up. I enjoyed all of the previous Halo games, and am just fine with getting them in a newer, shinier version.

Of course, the Halo collection won't convince me to drop the money on an XBox One. Project Spark is still the big contender for that feat. Can't wait to hear more details from the show about what kind of state Project Spark is in.

It appears Microsoft isn't the only one still supporting last generation. One of the developers on Twitter indicated Little Big Planet 3 is also coming to the Playstation 3.

I know it isn't relevant to discussion but I thought it interesting, since I know some people on this board crapped on Microsoft when it was announced Horizon 2 would be on the 360 as well as the Xbox One.

Also I didn't see it mentioned here that according to Geoff Knightley (Did I spell that right?) Destiny will be 1080p/30fps for the Xbox One according to Bungie. It's worth noting that last year this was the same specifications the PS4 version was running at last year according to digital foundry but they could have changed it to 1080p/60fps since then.

Good stuff. Although, I thought Destiny was locked at 30FPS. I'm sure we'll hear more in the months to come.
