Yakuza 3 comes West, Right now!
Just wait until this game goes on super sale after God of War 3, Heavy Rain, FF 13 slaughter it in sales.
You seem to be saying this like it's some stunning revelation. ;)

Obviously it's going to get creamed, I don't think anyone in the world, even at Sega, thinks otherwise.

Why they chose to release it in this gauntlet, who knows.

SEGA has always made baffling business decisions. They sit with Atari and Commodore atop the list of companies that somehow managed to score own goals while playing king-of-the-hill.

You would think they would hold off until June/July for the game. Save it for the dog days of summer when nothing gets released because every company is waiting for the Holiday sales. The only AAA titles I can think of coming out pre summer are Red Dead Redemption and Alan Wake. This summer is going to be a prime time because alot of people are just going to be playing catch up.

Indeed. For example, 3D Dot Game Heroes is releasing in May, and despite being presumably a niche title may very well out-sell Yakuza 3 since it lacks the stiff competition (though Super Mario Galaxy 2 will now be releasing in May too).

3D Dot Heroes is a good comparison, I think - and they're smart enough to release it at $40.

Granted, Sega did that w/ Yakuza 2 and that did not do well, to my knowledge.

The loss of the hostess clubs is a loss, but to be honest, I'm not that bothered by it. More by Sega's rationale, that fits in with a lot of their baffling decisions that suggest they really don't know what they're doing at times.

Yes, their reasoning was extremely, extremely poor.
I spent 30 minutes of my 30 hours in Yakuza 1 doing hostess stuff, so while I feel its a big shame to have it cut, I will still be able to get my other 29 hours of extreme fun in.

(and you were right about Y2, which had an msrp of $30, sold 25K)

FIGHT THE POWER! The more people that boycott it means less sales and quicker price drop (hopefully). I stand shoulder to shoulder with you my brothers this tyranny shall not go unnoticed.

My last post was in response to one that was taken down, talking about protesting the release of this game in its incomplete form - calling for solidarity and all that, I recall.

Nothing to do with you.

My pre-order is still intact. It's annoying for sure, but I'm not gonna ignore the release of a game I've been waiting years for just because I can't flirt with some digital women (or manage whom they flirt with) or take a quiz about Japan. :D

Sega's updated response does little to assuage my disappointment and I continue to shake my head.

I'm still going to buy it and I'm still going to enjoy myself.

The backlash has been incredible, way more than I could have imagined.

Hell, maybe Sega will respond as they did with Allstar Racing and Bayonetta. (when sony stepped in)

They don't want to do that most likely because that's when they "plan" to release Alpha Protocol, and they are putting a lot of time and money into that game hoping its a big seller.

I put an order with Play-Asia for Yakuza 4. They also have a combo price with Yakuza 3. So I might as well just get that bundle and use my credit there.

Maybe they will at least consider to re-evaluate their decisions. I still want to buy Yakuza 3, but damn, I really hate when any material is cut from any sort of media — it's extremely frustrating to have something edited, regardless of their intention. I would like to experience the product as it was originally intended.

Does anyone know if the costumes they give you for pre-ordering are going to be in the package or will they be some kind of card they give you separately? The reason I am asking is because I have a bunch of RZ stuff from Best Buy I can use, but I would like to pre-order as well and I'm not sure they let you do that without having to pay shipping as well. Thoughts?

From what I understand, the DLC codes for pre-orders are going to be in the game case, and will only be included in pre-order copies. At least, that was according to the official PS blog...

Yeah, but there's no way they can only be in the pre-order copies.
Sounds like a ploy and they'll be in every first print run (aka, the final print run) of the game.

Why not? Certain copies of the LittleBIGPlanet Game of the Year edition had codes for the ModNation Racers beta. Certain copies of the God of War collection had codes for the God of War 3 E3 demo.

Here's the post: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/02/peruse-yakuza-3s-pre-order-bonuses/

He says: "4 pieces of DLC will be packed into the game via a special code card."

Oh, I thought every copy of LBP goty had the code, if not then it had to be random.
And I thought GoW collection came separately, I know that my GS gave out cards, and Amazon emailed me the code to download. The copies with the code inside were random.

I just mean, how can ONLY the pre-order copies have the bonus stuff inside?
I can pre-order it until a day before it's released, it's just not feasible.

I don't know, but I thought that only some of the copies of the GoTY edition of LBP had the demo codes. My guess is that the first shipment will have the codes, but who knows. If you read the replies in the blog post, the guy says that people who don't pre-order will have the opportunity to get the content via DLC, but he doesn't say how long.

That is true.
As for equest, the DLC will be made free on PSN later on, so even if you miss it now, you'll have a chance later.

All in all, I'm extremely excited to include this game in my collection. Now I can get rid of the Yakuza 3 import I have sitting around. It's totally worth playing through a second time (without having to consult gamefaqs for loose translations of whatever the heck is going on).

My preorder is still intact and I don't give a hoot! Most of Yakuza 3 is better than no Yakuza 3, still day one purchase for me. Gonna finish up Yakuza 1 while the PS3 is busy killing itself.

Next Tuesday cant come soon enough!

I have BFBC2 coming tomorrow, but I dont think Im even going to touch it until this summer. I already have Wednesday of next week reserved off from work. I think I am going to try and just stick with the story missions on my first playthrough, so that I can get it done before Resonance of Fate comes in.

Then when I am leveled a bit Im going to go back through to finish up side missions before attempting to play through on the hardest difficulty. I have never played through the Yakuza series on anything but Normal, so I am a bit worried, but I am definitely going to give the platinum a go.

So can someone just kind of summarize the game for me? I've been reading wikipedia and watched the gametrailers, and I'm still not clear on how the game works. Do you just run around and get into fights and are you able to go anywhere you want at any time? Can you get into fights whenever you want so you can upgrade your stuff?

I'm kind of looking forward to the game too. I wasn't too impressed by the demo, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. I've bought some crappy games in the past, and it's not that bad; plus, I really want to like this game, so hopefully I can finish it.

The good thing is that I bought this from GameStop, so I'll have my copy on the first day it's available. FF13 will take like a week to get to me from Amazon, so I'll have a chance to check out this game first.

Yakuza 3 is a clear example of Eastern game design against Western game design. The story will lead the gameplay, where as in Western design, gameplay leads the story.

There are some very lengthy cut scenes, some rivaling Metal Gear Solid 4 in length. I think it takes over ten minutes for the first series of cut scenes to finish before the game itself starts.

If you want a clear idea of what kind of game this is, I would say it's a next-generation Final Fight game. That's what you should be expecting walking into this game.

Once the story leading up to what is going on is establishing, your character will basically be let loose, interactive movie style, not sandbox style, into various Japanese settings. That's a big difference, which is why comparisons to Grand Theft Auto absolutely do not work. You won't be able to run up and kill everyone you want. This doesn't fit into the Yakuza 3 storyline or the Kazuma character, and so players aren't allowed to do it.

Instead you can walk around towns and cities and do glorified stuff that Japanese Yakuza do, but for the most part you'll be going from mission to mission to move the story forward.

The street fights are based around scams in real-life Japan, when people will bump into you, and ask for payment for breaking their cellphone or something. Unfortunately by messing with the main character, these people will get their asses kicked and hence the street fights break out.

These street fights are pretty vital to leveling yourself up for boss fights later in the game. Don't balance yourself properly and you'll find it quite difficult to advance later in the game. There are only a certain number of times these hoodlums will approach you in-between missions. Like three times. Then you must complete another mission for more hoodlums to show up and harass you.

Once again - Next-Gen Final Fight.

Cool, somehow I missed your reply. I've just polished off God of War 2 and I'm ready for Tuesday! Wish I had a BC PS3 or a PS 2 to play the 1st two (but I probably wouldn't have the time anyway).

Grab some popcorn. Those cutscenes will take a while.

I don't see why Sega doesn't pull a 'god of war collection' and release Yakuza 1 & 2 onto the ps3 with upgraded graphics, trophies and all sorts just like the GoW collection. I haven't played the first two, but would want to. My ps3 isn't BC and I don't own a ps2 anymore. I can't see why alot of devs re-release their great ps2 games onto the ps3. (I'm looking at you Sly Cooper, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus)

A couple of us happen to stumble upon a Sega event in San Fran last nite, and what do you know, they were showing the game! Played it for the first time, after hearing about it for years from Sega fans who have been rallying for the game for years.

It isn't like GTA in Tokyo, which I assumed it was, based on the way its described. It's much more straightforward than that. Mostly a beat-em-up, with lots of mini-games and side missions to do. But yeah, those cut scenes are long winded!

That's what I heard, but it's confusing to me b/c on the trailers, it shows you going to the beach, golfing, buying stuff at a convenient store--so if you can't do this stuff whenever you want, when do you do it?

In between missions/story progression segments.

The developer of ICO/SoTC has said he wants to do a GoW-like collection.

The demand just isn't there.

Considering the God of War Collection sold over 500,000 copies thus far, with little promotion, games like the ICO/SoTC duo, FF PS2 titles (or the PS1 trilogy, that'd have even more fanfare), and GTA trilogy would stand a decent chance of being re-released in a similar fashion.

I agree with your statement about Yakuza 1/2, though. There's almost no demand for those games to begin with, let alone for a boosted re-release.

Even if they dont get a revamp, it would be nice to see them as DD titles (should PS2 DD titles comes to PS3).

The graphics hold up fairly well, but the constant loading makes it tough to go back through one, and to a lesser extent two. A DD should cut down on those times considerably and if Im not mistaken the PS3 already upconverts PS2 titles, so that may be a more viable alternative.

Should even one game sell moderately well in the series, I don't think Sega would have a problem revisiting them. Until then - it's like being upset that the company doesn't want to shoot itself in the foot for our amusement.

Finally played the demo from last month - wow! - I'm going to order this through amazon right now. The 3D Final Fight description fits really well.

Well, frak, I was looking forward to it. Amazon still says 3/9, so if anyone pre-ordered from Amazon, let us know if you get an e-mail about the release date changing (Amazon is almost never wrong, and when they are, they change it).

Guess they pulled that calender out of their ass and looked at what their competition was?

Sega is a bad company to work for. But goddamn are there some incompetence issues there. I watch that video and it was like the guy was almost ashamed to talk about the fact that the game IS essentially a next-generation Final Fight. It's almost like they don't know to sell that and so they have to rely on the "Japanese culture" the game presents only to strip parts out.

I feel I have *facepalm fever* whenever I hear anything regarding Sega.

If they delay the game when it supposedly comes out 2 days by now then I'll lol.

"Oh shit! That's when FF XIII comes out! Delay!!!" ...then they delay the next week-

"Oh shit! That's when God of War 3 comes out! Delay!!!"
