Yakuza 4 - General Discussion - Out Now!

That was a great trailer. Almost makes me want to try the game when it comes out even though I didnt even like the Yakuza 3 demo. Almost makes me want to try Yakuza 3 again.

But they always release Yakuza games on the same day as something much more successful. I was sure that this year it would coincide with Uncharted 3.

Even though this is probably like asking a crack addict if crack is good...can you tell me if Yakuza 3 was much better than the demo? When I tried the demo it seemed ho hum. The fighting was not all that interesting. But I have read some notes that the demo sucked compared to the game. Is that true?

Also, of course the game is about the Yakuza, so its inherently Japanese, but is the game REALLY Japanesey? If you know what I mean?

Cool, 2 days before 'Ryū ga Gotoku Of the End' gets released in JP.

Oh hell yes it was better than the demo. I couldn't beat the guy at the end of the demo, but when I actually played the game, I had all these powerups and weapons and I kicked his butt hard. I didn't like the demo at all, but I got it anyway (just because I saw so many people raving about it on CAG). I'm glad I picked it up.

It is pretty Japanese, but not wacky Japanese. The fighting takes some getting used to at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was really fun. It's not a 10/10 or anything, but I'd give it an 8 or a 9.

Thanks for some perspective. I might actually try reading more about it and watch more youtube gameplay. These trailers make the new one seem really cool and edgy.

It's a little quirky still. You walk around the streets and random punks come up to you and fight you for almost no reason (usually to try to mug you), and you end up kicking their @$$. It never got old to be because they do this hilarious ending close-up CG clip where the guy falls back like a rag doll all bloody and stuff. Every time I saw it I laughed. Anyway, for $25 now it's worth it in my opinion. If you do play it, don't go into it expecting to be blown away, just try to enjoy it for what it is and I think you'll like it.

It's almost more of a GTA with RPG elements.

Read this review, it really highlights the best parts of the game:

Fixed.

I wouldnt expect it to be great, it wasnt received that well overall. I know it is a decent game, I guess I am jonesin' for GTA/Brawler. And the powerups sound and look cool. Thanks

Hey all,

With Yakuza 4 coming out soon, I figured we here at SEGA should drop a line to you guys and see if you have any questions about the game.

I know one of the big questions will probably be regarding cut content, which is where we have good news. we made an effort to keep as much as possible in Y4 this time around, and that includes the Hostess clubs and the 'Let's make a No.1 hostess!' mini-game, which we know people were looking for. Other mini-games, like Pachinko, are also present. The only mini-game that won't make it in is the Japanese trivia game called 'Answer X Answer'.

I've been away from CAG for a bit, but will be around more often now to respond both here and in the Valkyria thread. :)

Very few things are being cut, and most are technically edits - minor things like changing the name of the dog from 'Rex' to it's original Japanese: 'Mame'. :)

We'll be able to confirm 100% what's in the game very soon, but if you compare the cuts in Y3 to Y4, well - there's really no comparison, in my opinion.

I don't know if you're for real, but I'd like to know if there are going to be any GameStop-only exclusives like with Yakuza 3. If not, I would really like to switch my pre-order to Amazon so I can save a few bucks, and a few bucks more on sales tax.

Also, you really dodged a bullet last time because we had a very heated Yakuza 3 thread where I really had to stick up for you guys

Also, please put those trailers on TV. People will buy this game based on those trailers alone (the one where there's a guy narrating the whole thing). The trailers are freaking awesome and I can't hardly wait for this game!

And, if you're a troll trying to get a rise and false hope out of people, I don't know how you can live with yourself :p

Gamestop listing. Click and read.

Also, might need a new thread for this since OP has been banned.

I'm for real - previously, I posted mainly in the Valkyria Chronicles topic here on CAG. You can find my profile over on the SEGA blogs though.

Thanks Supplice for posting the link to the gamespot pre-order!

Lokizz - There are most definitely hostess clubs. :)

You're fired RubyEclipse, it's GameSTOP now they're going to disown you!

Anyway, so GameStop it is. What's up with the OP getting banned?!

I'll have The Mana Knight or the other person open a Y4 thread. I'd do it but I just don't have the time to update the OP when new stuff comes out.

Hostess clubs back. Good for the fans, though I don't really play them.

What about the *cough* massage parlors *cough* that I recall from Yakuza on PS2?

Good calls on the new cover art and trailers. I hope you guys can advertise this game more.

Massage parlor is in.

The final massage level is hilarious. But I'll let you guys discover that one on your own.

Glad you like the new cover art and the trailers so far!

I wonder if all those people who said they weren't buying Yakuza 3 because of the cut content will buy Yakuza 4 on day 1.

Probably not. Maybe a few, but for the most part people just like to bitch.

Hostess clubs are in? That's it, I'm not buying. I appreciated the efforts to market it towards American consumers, I will not support this pandering to special interests.

I'm getting Yakuza 4, looks as if they learned from there mistakes even though 3 didn't get fixed.

To put fuel on a fire, Kenzan needs to be subbed.

Yeah, I want Kenzan too. I hate zombies so much (they really creep me out too much), so as much as it pains me, I really don't want "Of the End" to come stateside. But I wouldn't mind having Project K come over for the PSP or PSP2.

+1 on "of the end" it looks like a completely different game. A bit too much like that beat em up mode in the most recent Tekken.

I would love to see Kenzan. Yakuza 3 had one of the best stories I have possibly ever played. Great characters. I think
Rikiya's death
is the first time I have gotten misty eyed playing a game since
Agro died in SotC.

Will the pre-order bonus come to Amazon or any other stores?

That part was really sad. Yakuza 3 was great, even with the cuts that didn't affect the story in any way.

I'm hoping Amazon would get as well. Even if I pre-order at GS, I wouldn't be surprised to see the dynamic theme hit PSN some time after launch.

Yeah, I think the bonus cage fighting GS exclusive eventually did come out on PSN via DLC, but of course you had to pay extra for it.

Oh, and great box art this time SEGA.

I got Kenzan when I was in Japan, and got through a good bit of it. But I lost interest because I couldn't understand the dialogue. :( It's never coming out here, but I wish it was, because it was a really good game.

I bought Kenzan! when I was in Japan, and played through most of it. Like anyone who doesn't know Japanese beyond the basics, I only got part of the storyline - but still enjoyed it. :)

For pre-order bonuses, those are generally exclusive to certain stores or retailers.

Jh6269 - glad you like the box art, too! (I prefer this one so much over the last.)

I've been fed up with crappy NA boxarts for awhile. So like with Y3, I just print out hi-res JP boxarts as replacements.

Check out Captain epic on youtube, he's subbed all the kenzan cutscenes so you can at least get a idea what the game is like, sooner or later I'll create a team to fix Yakuza 3 and Sub Kenzan.

(^_T) - single tear...

That would have been cool while I was playing it, still, it wouldn't have helped with the quests. :(

Could always pay a translator to sit next to you as you play the game.

Doing voices costs extra.

Kuro Edition in EU comes in a steelbook.

What else is included in the LE?

Australia evidently is receiving an LE as well - the Shiro Edition, which features a (you guessed it) white steelbook case.

Any chance of a US LE? I'll buy either way, but if there's an LE available, I'd love to hear about it.

LE includes...

Yakuza 4 to get “Kuro” and “Shiro” special editions in Europe

According to multiple European retailers, Yakuza 4 will be getting multiple special edition packages.

The first is the Kuro Edition from Amazon Germany, which includes a black steel case in addition to the following free DLC: boss survival, racing and tournament modes plus costumes for Akiyama, Saejima, Tanimura, Kiryu and Haruka.

Retailer Game also posted a slightly different limited edition for Yakuza 4. The “Shiro” edition contains the following content:

* White Steel book
* 4 pieces of bonus content featuring unlockable costumes and battle modes previously only available in Japan

Yakuza 4 will be released in Europe and North America on March 18th. You can check out the covers for the “Kuro” and “Shiro” special editions, in addition to some gameplay screens in the slideshow to the left of this article.

Ruby posted this on the blog encase anyone didn't see it.

When the news about the Kuro and Shiro editions of Yakuza 4 hit the net, the questions began to fly. Was the US missing out on this content completely? Were those awesome unlockable costumes going to come with our version too? And what about all those extra post-game elements, like the survival mode, or the underground fighting arena?
Today we can confirm that all copies of Yakuza 4 in the US will come pre-packaged with these codes right inside the box. Specifically, this includes:

  • Bonus costumes for Kazuma, Akiyama, Taiga, Tanimura, and Haruka
  • Survival Mode
  • Underground car park racing
  • The much-loved underground Fighting Arena
Like Yakuza 3, these codes will be one-time use, so you’ll want to make sure you’re buying a new copy of the game if you want to enjoy the bonuses. Consider it our little way of saying thank you to the many fans out there who are doing their part to help the Yakuza series succeed here in the west. (Hostess clubs included!)

We also have another special bonus here in the US for anyone who pre-orders from Gamestop: you can say hello to the lovely ladies of Yakuza 4 with an exclusive Dynamic Hostess Theme for PSN, free for all who pre-order on their side. If that sounds like your cup of virtual tea, you can pre-order online here.

There’s lots more on the way as we gear up for the big release of Yakuza 4 next month, so stick with us for even more news and awesome, M-rated goodness in the weeks to come!

The Demo is up but only for PSN+ members, which I am not one of.

Does anyone know if the demo will eventually be available for regular PSN members to download?

I've never played a Yakuza game before. I was interested in the last one, but stayed away when I heard about all the content that was cut for the US release. Now that I hear this game is coming with all the content intact, I'm very interested.

The content that was cut was minuscule when compared to the rest of the game. Sure you can run through the main story in roughly 20-25 hours. Include the mini-games, hitman missions, escorts, and battle room you can easily put 60 hours into this game. The content that was dropped was unimportant to the western audience and does not take anything away from the game.

Go buy Yakuza 2 and 3 right now. Glue yourself to the TV for the next 50-100 hours.
