Yakuza 4 - General Discussion - Out Now!

I've read that like 20-35% of the contect was cut from Y3?

The thing is, the stuff that was cut, that was considered 'too Japanese' for westerners, is exactly what I'm interested in. I don't buy a game like 'Yakuza' because I want to go bowling. I want to check out the hostess bars and do quirky Japanese things that I will never do in irl.


I'll checkout 3 if I can find it for $20 or less. Isn't Yakuza 2 for the PS2? I think I may actually have a copy of that somewhere, but I've never played it.

I thoght all PS3 games were region free? If so and you really like Japanese style games, why not import? It may cost you a little more, but if it is that important to you go for it. I cant imagine hostess clubs and whatever else they cut was 20-35% of the game.

the y4 demo is shit all you get to do is fight as each of the 4 characters from y4 once. i was hoping itd be like the japanese y4 demo which actually had some of the story in it as well as the ability to go to the place with the chicks. if you really want to try the y4 demo get it off the jap psn.

20-25% is an extreme over-exaggeration.

The only thing really worth missing are the hostess clubs.

Other than that, nothing really.

Come on folks, don't start this whole Y3 drama again. Y4 has all the hostess clubs and everything, just be happy ok?

Y3 is still worth it for the story, and it's a really fun game despite the cuts.

y3 is defienlty worth playing even with the cuts theres tons to do especially with all the side missions.
 
F'real. I put 50-60 hours into the game, didn't come close to platinum.

It's not like the game was primarily about hostess clubs. Yakuza 3 is great. I have a feeling those who bitch about Y3's cuts are the same kind of fools who think it would be a good business decision to release Kenzan in the States.

Y3 had one of the best stories I have ever played. The depth of the characters is unreal.

The lack of hostess clubs is not a big deal. You can still go on dates with the girls and if youre really desperate for virtual women, just get good at pool because you can always win some "panther poses".

I didn't know about that until after I got the platinum for the game. I felt bad for not letting my dates get a shot in during rotation. :whistle2:#
 
for everyone still mad about y3 go out and support y4 buy it when it releases since this one will have all the stuff youre upset wasnt in y3. i wont pretend i wasnt pissed either when i heard they cut the shit from y3 but the game was still amazing even the combat was better than i expected.
 
I cannot freaking wait for this game. I canceled my Killzone 3 pre-order because it's a little too close to the release of Y4. I really think it's going to be cool to go on rooftops and in the underground parking lots and stuff. Freaking hurry up March!

I'm about 80% to 90% sure I'm going to Japan this May, so I'm interested to see how close the game is to what Tokyo looks like in real life (I know the city in the game is not real, but I want to see if it's similar).

I am glad I kept waiting to get Yak 3 since I might just pick it up for free with 4 in March from Kmart. Demo for 4...Even though it was only fighting I thought it was pretty cool. Made me want to get both soon.

Hope you get to go to Japan. That is one of the places I would love to visit before I die.

I didn't like the Y3 demo, but decided to give it a shot anyway, and it was one of my favorite games last year. Somehow the demo just didn't do the game justice. I had the same impression of Killzone 2's demo. I really didn't think I'd like the game, but when I bought it and played it, it was really good.
 
I'm currently playing y3 and it's a very good game. Wish I had discovered it sooner because it seems you need to play the first 2 to really get into it. I watched like 2 hours of cutscenes before I could even do anything (y1+2+3 scenes).

Definitely in for y4.

I decided to finally beat Yakuza 2 which I left off at early on about half a year ago in preperation for Yakuza 3 and 4. I'll be showing up at Kmart Tuesday morning. Oh, in case no one knows, if you buy Yakuza 4 launch week at Kmart you get a free copy of Yakuza 3.

I definitely want of the End to come here. I'm hoping we'll get it March 2012, a year after Japan just as we did Yakuza 4. I like zombies as much as the next guy but do admit they're kinda getting out of hand... but c'mon, you get to punch zombies in the face as a big Japanese guy in a pink flannel shirt in of the End. How is that alone not worth $60?

... Yakuza's fighting system IS going to be in the game, right? I hope it's not strictly gun-play. Also, I wonder what the title for the US is going to be. In Japan of the End makes perfect sense, the full title is "As Though a Dragon of the End". Lovely. But the US it'd be "Yakuza of the End", which is fine, but not as great. I'm quite expecting SEGA USA won't use 'of the End" and will opt for another subtitle. Wonder what zany subtitles they could come up with, how bout we help them?

Heads up, the Of the End demo hits Japanese PSN tomorrow. Be sure to grab it ASAP if you want it cause most Japanese demos (including the Yakuza games) don't keep their demos up for more than a week.

Side story I believe, but still with an indepth story it seems from the videos I've seen.

@Owen: Atlus put the demo out for a second week calling it "Second Chance Demo" after they took it down the first time. I'm sorry you didn't get to play it. I'd give you my login details for my Japanese PSN account so you could download it from my download list, but I completely forgot my login details for it (just like my Europe and HK PSN accounts). I hope my "remember me" settings never get lost, haha.
