YMMV- Gamestop and Best Buy are receiving NES Classics. UPDATED

Went in to get the last NES Classic at a not so local store. Go in and the guy says I have to buy a wireless controller. I ask where in your policy does it state I need to buy an extra item to get one item. He states that its store policy for NES Classics, sure it is. I tell him I'll just return it as soon as I buy it. He said he won't accept it since I have to return everything to get my money back. Another lie since GameStop stores do not sell bundles as one SKU.

Ended up returning it to another store.

Just finished the survey for this store and hopefully (like all the other times stores do this) I'll get a call from the DM who usually makes it right.

Was at a walmart looking at clearance stuff and asked the lady that usually works electronics if they had nes classics.  She said no and that even the work warehouse or something like that didn't have any either, so it would be about 3 weeks before they got anymore.  Not sure if I understood her correctly but she didn't seem the type to be telling stories or know about the discontinuation, so that probably means the region is dry now.

Asked the toys r us guy about them, and he played dumb and said they hardly ever got any, so who knows if they get any more.  But that store has a bunch of employees who are the demographic who would want them so it's probably hopeless there.

So this morning when I woke up I decided to check BrickSeek just for the hell of it. Three area stores had 3-4 systems each. Jumped in the car and went to the closest a little after 7am and there was already a line of 4 people and they only had four consoles. Drove to the next closest one and got there about 730, same deal, enough people to cover the few consoles they already had. My wife decided to run in and grab a few things anyway while I go grab breakfast. When we meet back up she tells me that the kid who had dibs on the first one's card wouldn't clear at the register but everyone else who was there for a NES Classic was nice and patient and waited for him to go the ATM to get cash, so that was nice. However my wife said there was one guy making a scene about how it wasn't fair that the systems were promised to people before the store opened and the employee he was taking his frustration out on was just a young, probably teenager, cashier.

Oh well, I missed out again BUT... on the way home I stopped at a TRU that was just opening. No one was really in the store so I asked the girl at customer service if she can check to see if any area stores had them in stock, she was actually nice and helpful. She acknowledged that the stores should all be getting their last shipments, they didn't have any but a store about in a town about an hour away had 17! This particular store is not high traffic at all, small town really, and over the years I have been able to find hard to find stuff (Transformers, Star Wars, etc.) that I collect. I called the store to confirm and the lady who answered was very nice and helpful too. She said that they already had sold two, I told her where I was coming from and she said that I should be fine. Drove down there and the display was still pretty full with them. I was able to get one and since my wife was with me she got one for my brother in law who was looking for one too.

Feel kind of like my zen attitude on losing out to the scalper yesterday brought me good luck today. So don't give up if you're still looking, check your TRU's!

I got a great story about trying to get an NES Classic at a Walmart today, I'll let you know as soon as I get home from trying to get one all day. It's quite the story.
Hey, whatever happened to this? Everyone here is waiting and won't go to the bathroom until you post so we don't miss it. I called my neighbor over and we are gathered around waiting.

When Target has a few NES Classics in stock at opening (according to Brickseek, etc.), where are they at? Electronics counter, behind glass display in electronics, or customer service desk?

And is the order of the line outside respected?  Or is it just who rushes in the store the fastest?

My Target had 3 in stock, I was third in line. A 4th guy shows up about 30 or 40 minutes after me, I was going to tell him about the quantity, but figured he knew what Brickseek was (he might even be reading this). Doors open, and the first 3 start walking toward electronics when asshole number 4 starts running and caused a panic. Me and number 2 ran to catch up, and we almost didn't get ours because the manager told them not to sell to the runners. Me and number 2 explained the situation and luckily they sold us the Classics. There was also a guy that somehow made it into the store before anyone in line, and electronics refused to sell it to him without walking out and walking back in first. I was really lucky.
WTH? Was that guy hiding out in a clothes rack overnight?

When I got mine yesterday, the manager opened the door and told us to go straight to the service desk. I think it makes it easier because they see who is in line and what order. We had people drive by all morning but nobody got in line since there were already 4 in line and 3 consoles (myself and a group of 3). About 10 minutes before open, we had others show up and get in line probably hoping they could run past everybody if Target just let us go.

My "end game" is to see Nintendo fail, after all the bullshit they have inflicted on the gaming community over the last decade or so. The NES Classic Edition is just one more example of a company completely out of touch with what gamers want. It's disgusting that Nintendo has throttled the supply for this product, leaving regular gamers unable to get one due to scalping. There's no excuse for that, and a lot of people are through with this shit-sorry company after all the garbage they've pulled.

The sooner the Switch fails and this company gets liquidated, the better. And at this rate, it will fail, there's no 3rd party support (once again), just like the Wii U.
Thank you for replying, but I have a hard time believing you when you want the death of a company because of "limited" production of some products. Also all signs are pointing up when compared to the Wii U at the moment. Yes that could change, but to vehemently disagree with that now is like... something that I won't say because I don't want to be banned.

It's not just because of the NES Classic. It's many other problems with the way they have conducted business over the last decade or so. Crap hardware, stupid gimmicks, missing features, poor online, garbage quality emulation in their Virtual Console, games tied to hardware instead of accounts, rehashing games, going after YouTube videos, throttling supply to stoke demand, etc.

The Wii was a trash console that polluted the industry with bad gimmicks and tons of shovelware. The 3DS is cheap, low-resolution hardware with poor specs and a useless 3D gimmick. The Wii U was crap hardware built entirely around a gimmick that actually breaks immersion (and was so expensive that Nintendo had to severely gimp the console specs). This company has fallen far from it's peak during the NES, SNES, and N64 days. And they just don't know how to make good gaming hardware anymore.

To be honest their hardware was competitive up until the Wii. The N64 was a powerhouse and performance-wise could blow away the PSX. The GameCube also had excellent hardware and one look at Rogue Squadron confirmed it. (Tech nerds will correct me I'm sure but to my eyes these are the observations I made)

One thing you need to keep in mind is that Nintendo, unlike Microsoft and Sony, doesn't have multiple product lines to create income. You don't see Nintendo TVs or Nintendo OS's on laptops/etc. So unlike MS and Sony they can't afford to take huge losses on their hardware for a while. That means they can't just make a hardcore gaming console that will compete graphically with MS and Sony. They have to make gaming fun and unique in order to sell hardware. You may not agree with their decisions but do you have proof to back up your claims they are a failing company?

Saw this on NeoGaf....no one was killed luckily, but no word on the condition of the NES Classic

I Look forward to reading this over and over and over again as well on the SNES Classic thread in a few months again and again.

And yet they are making money hand over fist. It's not that you're wrong with what you're saying, but none of it matters to 95% of consumers. Nintendo will never fail unless they simply exit the industry under their own terms which obviously isn't going to happen because they still make shitloads of money. Say what you will about the Switch (I certainly never plan to own one) but the fact they have sold what they have of that piece of shit with zero exclusive games worth owning (obviously I'm including the fact BotW is virtually identical on Wii U) is all you need to know about how the majority of people feel about Nintendo.

I recall gaming became a "macho" thing in the mid 90s - once dominated by platformers and more fantastical creatures - a huge shift towards sports and fps really caused a drop in user base for the GameCube ( Nintendo in general) when it came.

I think Sony saw this and also did a good job of capturing a large part of that "abandoned" and disillusioned Nintendo base.

I hope they make a SNES classic, but nintendo is treading on thin ice here. They pissed off more people then made happy making a product most couldn't buy. Then they stop making it, to say they want to focus on their future products. So if that were true, they shouldn't be bringing out a SNES classic. So if they do release a SNES classic, they better handle the release better, cause if they do the same thing again, there will be riots in the streets :)

Why is this thread still up? There's no more NES CLASSICs.

Let's take this thread out to the shed and put it out of it's misery just like Nintendo did to the NES CLASSIC.  :D/

I was just witness to both the dumbest thing and the saddest thing in the world. Was out for an early dinner with some friends and after leaving the restaurant realized I'd be driving past a Walmart. Decided to check brickseek and the store showed some in stock. Figured they were gone, but decided to go in anyway since it was on my way home. Go back to Electronics area and see a line of about 6 people who look a bit irritated, well shit. Was about to turn around and leave when I saw an employee come up to the group so decided to see what was said. It's a manager, some smug looking dude, who tells the group that they have no NES Classics. Dude at the front of the group immediately starts screaming at the dude, they've been waiting 30 minutes because they were told they were being offloaded off the truck and that BrickSeek still shows they have some that weren't there an hour or so ago. Manager is smirking but tells the yeller that it's wrong and they have no classics. Yeller gets even more pissed at the manager, not undeservedly because this dude is oozing smug and even if he isn't hiding them he sure is giving off the vibe. The rest of the group is upset but distancing themselves from the yeller with a couple just leaving. The manager tells the yeller that he has to leave or the police will be called, this prompts the yeller to start threatening to call corporate and everything under the sun "I'll have your job you minimum wage mother fuck er. I make more in a day that you make in a month" kinda stuff. I highly doubt that last bit but this is the last straw for the manager and he puts his hand on the yeller's arm, not in a violent way more of in a showing him the way towards the front, and starts to escort him out of the store. Yeller decks the manager, lays him out, and the rest of the group behind the yeller has decided to nope the fuck out at that really quickly. Couple employees grabbed the dude and held him down and the manager was getting back up, blood pouring out of his face and started calling someone. He must've gotten the manager with a ring or something. I assume he was calling the police.

Decided that was the time to leave and basically make me not want to even try to locate one even if driving past a store.

Yeah, it was bizarre. I mean, I could understand being upset after waiting 30 minutes to unload truck but then being told there were none. Nothing justifies any of that though. At all. It was insane, pretty sure something was wrong with that dude. I mean he had to be to go to that extreme.

Honestly, if people want one of these as bad as they think they do then they should just buy one from a reseller. The psychology is baffling.

at least he's got the money to bail out making so much :D

this will be a fun memory for him, every time he hears nintendo gonna think about the time he got arrested lol

Thanks to Nintendo for creating this entire situation. If they had provided a reasonable supply of NES Classics, all these bad situations wouldn't be taking place. There's already a huge backlash against Nintendo for how they handled the his product, a lot of pissed off people. It won't end well for them at all.

Some people just have no patience for smug managers. I myself had to deal with a snobby condescending female manager at Target about the NES Classic. I was annoyed as hell but kept my cool and just left. I even had to check a customer who spouted out that he was going to slap someone if they skipped him in line, I asked him if he was talking to me while giving him the death look and he backpedaled saying it wasn't directed to me "I was standing next to him as he said it so yeah". I'm telling you Nintendo really dropped the ball on the NES Classics big time. I'll be sure to Pre-order the SNES Mini immediately should Nintendo make it in order to avoid this nonsense.

I just want to ask the smug manager after he got kissed by a fist if it was worth hiding the NES Classics :whistle2:
I'm sure what he was planning to resell them for will be maybe enough to cover his medical bills. Though I guess that would be workmans comp, but if he was hiding them.....hmm....wonder how that will be handled.

I love these stories.  I also love all the doomsayers on here and crazy people in the community that help to maintain Nintendo's relevance.

In a ladder match against the guy who decked him for a case of NES Classics suspended 20 feet above the ring obviously. This was only the beginning.

There's still hope. All of the Walmarts in my area who have had stock over the past two weeks are still getting inventory in directly including the one I got mine at on Easter Sunday, the store my mom got hers and my brother's, and the store I picked up one for a work friend of my wife (who's desperately wanting to share old games with his kids). All have been going in and out of stock. Plus apparently TRU hasn't pulled their big stock release yet, so there's that too.

Really sad to see how some people are reacting to this.  At the end of the day, it's a plastic toy.  You hear stories like this every year with hot ticket items, but it doesn't make it any easier to hear/read about them.

While it's fair to say Nintendo shares some of the blame for how they've handled this product, far more of the blame goes to consumers who are willing to literally harm other people over it.  It's an unfortunate state of our material-driven, money-grubbing world of today.  Human decency and some adherence to greater principles no longer seem to matter much.

I think the vast majority of CAG folks on this board would never behave the way some people have done in these stories, and it gives me some comfort that readers here react with shock and dismay at this sort of barbarism over a plastic toy, especially one that can easily be replicated in cheaper ways.

I just wish everyone could better prioritize what matters in life.  When your life is being overwhelmed or defined by whether or not you can buy something, it really is time to sit down, breath, and think hard about where you're going in life.

Turned out too long, spoilering it. Click if you care (or don't)

I know you think there is more to it than just the Classic, but you have ignored discussion about other topics before. (One from me which is why I remember since I hardly post) I'll try to keep this brief as this discussion is clearly pointless and I doubt I will even understand your extreme reactions.

Crap hardware? I assume you mean specs and that reasoning has been discussed ad nauseam. Clearly there was fun to be had with waggle and touch (more so waggle). I'm sorry you hated both. Features/online, yes lacking but worked, and is/was free. VC emulation was indeed sub-par, but you have options. The digital games tied to hardware thing is gone now. Yes it takes a phone call to support to get your games back in cases of stolen hardware. Rehashing? When so many companies do it I'm not sure what company does it worst, but I don't see why it would be Nintendo. You have options with youtube. Take the cut or don't "cover" their games. Japanese devs as a whole share similar views on videos.

Wii was popular so it attracted bad games. Now all of that is on phones. Do you blame apple for the state of phone gaming as much as you hate on Nintendo? 3D was hot at the time, and the concept as a whole fizzled out in the last few years. How is this Nintendo's fault? Wii U spec talk is nothing new, and thinking they would have made it more powerful if the tablet is cheaper is pure speculation. I think they would have made the console cheaper, like the Wii. When you say "make good gaming hardware" all I can gather from your thoughts is that the console is weaker than other options. Is that really all that matters?

Yes, a lot of these things are not good, or even bad. But just listing things and wishing for destruction upon a company makes you come off as never thinking about the the possible reasons behind them. Example, taxes are bad, but they build your damn roads. But fine, you win. I won't try to understand you anymore. I'll leave it to the professional sarcastic replies that other posters are waaaay better at than I.

Some electronics employee in a Walmart I just missed a Classic in on Friday claimed they were getting one more shipment in.

I'll be sure to Pre-order the SNES Mini immediately should Nintendo make it in order to avoid this nonsense.
Keep in mind there were no preorder opportunities for the NES Classic - outside of one early morning Target preorder where half the preorders were canceled.

That Walmart story had me laughing. The manager was wrong to put his hands on the guy, period. He's lucky he only got cut up. If you're going to call the cops, call the cops, don't do the whole grab 'em by the arm thing unless you're on steroids and have an iron chin. Easy way to get knocked out.

Yeah this is part of the problem. I would have preordered day one, but I don't think anyone thought it would be this hard to find one.

It's been completely YMMV, there are Walmarts here in Houston that's gotten no shipment in the past month and others that's gotten 3 shipments the past month.

Reading all these stories. I wanna see a UFC Cage match and if you survive 3 rounds, you get a NES Classic. It would sell an people can vent off steam and you get to punch your way to the NES Classic. Maybe I should tell Nintendo to add that to the next Smash Bros. Walmart/Target Manager vs Consumer A :D

Or maybe walmarts that admit to shipments and others that hide shipments and reserve them for employees straight off...

I preordered both of mine online from toys r us when it went up at 6am months before launch.
