YMMV- Gamestop and Best Buy are receiving NES Classics. UPDATED

I was just witness to both the dumbest thing and the saddest thing in the world. Was out for an early dinner with some friends and after leaving the restaurant realized I'd be driving past a Walmart. Decided to check brickseek and the store showed some in stock. Figured they were gone, but decided to go in anyway since it was on my way home. Go back to Electronics area and see a line of about 6 people who look a bit irritated, well shit. Was about to turn around and leave when I saw an employee come up to the group so decided to see what was said. It's a manager, some smug looking dude, who tells the group that they have no NES Classics. Dude at the front of the group immediately starts screaming at the dude, they've been waiting 30 minutes because they were told they were being offloaded off the truck and that BrickSeek still shows they have some that weren't there an hour or so ago. Manager is smirking but tells the yeller that it's wrong and they have no classics. Yeller gets even more pissed at the manager, not undeservedly because this dude is oozing smug and even if he isn't hiding them he sure is giving off the vibe. The rest of the group is upset but distancing themselves from the yeller with a couple just leaving. The manager tells the yeller that he has to leave or the police will be called, this prompts the yeller to start threatening to call corporate and everything under the sun "I'll have your job you minimum wage mother fuck er. I make more in a day that you make in a month" kinda stuff. I highly doubt that last bit but this is the last straw for the manager and he puts his hand on the yeller's arm, not in a violent way more of in a showing him the way towards the front, and starts to escort him out of the store. Yeller decks the manager, lays him out, and the rest of the group behind the yeller has decided to nope the fuck out at that really quickly. Couple employees grabbed the dude and held him down and the manager was getting back up, blood pouring out of his face and started calling someone. He must've gotten the manager with a ring or something. I assume he was calling the police.

Decided that was the time to leave and basically make me not want to even try to locate one even if driving past a store.
And you didn't record this? I hope someone else did, this would have been the cherry on top to the stupidity that some people go through chasing these.

Honestly, it all happened so fast. It wasn't like this was drawn out over a decent amount of time. I mean, I think all of this went down in max like 4 minutes. Though it may have been longer and just seemed like it went quick.

What a stupid idiot punching someone over a $60 toy....
Pretty sure this applies to both people.....

I wish I could see those kinds of meltdowns happen in walmart. Would be much more fun than the usual Walmartians just making their way around slow as possible while having the whole family together and fanning out over an aisle so no one can get by.

I've since started taking in headphones and it blocks out the sound and it takes off the edge.

Walmart. Only place on earth I can go to in a delightful mood and get immediately pissed off.

Reading all these stories. I wanna see a UFC Cage match and if you survive 3 rounds, you get a NES Classic. It would sell an people can vent off steam and you get to punch your way to the NES Classic. Maybe I should tell Nintendo to add that to the next Smash Bros. Walmart/Target Manager vs Consumer A :D
this would be entertaining

Really sad to see how some people are reacting to this. At the end of the day, it's a plastic toy. You hear stories like this every year with hot ticket items, but it doesn't make it any easier to hear/read about them.

While it's fair to say Nintendo shares some of the blame for how they've handled this product, far more of the blame goes to consumers who are willing to literally harm other people over it. It's an unfortunate state of our material-driven, money-grubbing world of today. Human decency and some adherence to greater principles no longer seem to matter much.

I think the vast majority of CAG folks on this board would never behave the way some people have done in these stories, and it gives me some comfort that readers here react with shock and dismay at this sort of barbarism over a plastic toy, especially one that can easily be replicated in cheaper ways.

I just wish everyone could better prioritize what matters in life. When your life is being overwhelmed or defined by whether or not you can buy something, it really is time to sit down, breath, and think hard about where you're going in life.
Well the manager shouldn't have smirked.

Keep in mind there were no preorder opportunities for the NES Classic - outside of one early morning Target preorder where half the preorders were canceled.
Got three of them from the early Target pre-orders. I should have kept ordering. Best Buy has me trained for that limit though. Then again, I've never had anything cancelled while staying within the self-imposed limit of three units. (from Amazon, Best Buy, or Target).

"I make $800.00 a day and you make that in a month!"

"I am willing to get R-Worded in prison over a $225 eBay collectible toy?"

Best(worst?) part about it is that Walmart employee will 100% lose their job for touching a customer. So not only did he get chin checked but now he will end up unemployed. fucking goon.

Years ago I worked at a Walmart in the Garden Center and they told us about ten times a day not to even get in someone's way if they stole anything. People grabbed stuff all the time off shelves and would come sprinting through the nearest exit which was where I was. I never even gave it a second thought for the piddly wages I made and how batshit crazy people who steal $20 worth of crap are.

That Walmart story had me laughing. The manager was wrong to put his hands on the guy, period. He's lucky he only got cut up. If you're going to call the cops, call the cops, don't do the whole grab 'em by the arm thing unless you're on steroids and have an iron chin. Easy way to get knocked out.
Yeah, the manager deserved what he got for assaulting the guy.

Given, the guy was a complete douchebag from the story, but call the cops and let them handle the dumbass. Manager should be charged with assault and fired.

Manager will be fired but no judge or magistrate in their right mind would refute an assault charge against the customer.

Indeed. By this point even soccer moms are using brick seek.
I used to think I was the only one in my Area who even knew about Brickseek. Last month taught me that everyone and their momma know about it now. Disappointing to know that everyone knows where the pot of gold is now. There were times when I saw 4-5 NES Classics near by, but now I am like why bother if there are already people with sleeping bags outside of the store because of Brickseek along side dishonest employees.

Brickseek developers are ecstatic that more traffic to their site. The main media has caught onto Brickseek. Soon brickseek will be used for everythng released like new console, games, etc if it hasn't already. Why call hundreds of stores when Brickseek can search it for you.

Hopefully the manager gets fired for not diffusing the situation properly. Got what he deserved in my book because once you grab a person, game on.

My thoughts exactly. You don't lay a hand on another person. All he did was escalate the confrontation from verbal to physical.

Unrelated, has anyone checked GS today to see if stores got more in?

Was his name MrshllJcb?

I went to a Walmart about 30 minutes away from home and missed the last console by 10 minutes... I wasted all that time driving but then as I drove home, 3 more were in stock at another store. When I approached the glass case,I smiled! All 3 still there waiting for me to flip them. I got an old man to help me and told him I wanted the NES classic and I wanted all 3. He said,"you only get 1,Sonny boy. You have to leave some for the CAGs out there. Not enough stock for everyone.” I told him to save the lecture and ring me up. Sure enough, as I was paying, some fat acne-faced neck beard kid was just finishing his only exercise session as he came running asking for the classic in between breaths. Lesson is there are still some out there, just keep checking. And exercise.

I can't tell if this is satirical or patronizing.

I went to a Walmart and plugged my nes classic into a few tvs and tried a few games. Trying to decide which 1-2k$ tv I should pair with this holy grail of plastic.

You didn't get jumped for your classic by the constant roaming hordes of nes classic seekers that inhabit walmart these days?

But it seems to me the supply train has come to an end this weekend at least in my area. Unless there was an end of april shipment that didn't reach each stores' distribution yet, I think the well is dry. Somehow brickseek showed 10% overall stock for target recently, but now at 3%.

They didn't know what it was out of the box. I brought my katana and knucks in case any hoodlums tried to front.

WTF, did Gamestop finally disable Blackbeard4886's hooks into their inventory system?  Hasn't updated in 2 days, says "Location Queries Are Currently Down" and it appeared to happen just as the presumably final GS inventory was hitting stores (started in the central location around the TN hub and was just beginning to hit Texas, Florida, NY etc.).  Trying to time trips/calls to west coast stores but probably a lost cause.

gamestop was down yesterday for maintenance, said for a few hours but I think it was around 12 hours and hasn't been the same since.

I've had stores in my area look up inventory yesterday and today, and none showed up within 100 miles. (after several stores got them here on Friday)

Almost their entire network went down for "maintenance" when they went to update their reward catalog. Someone must of fucked up big as the majority of their "services" were shut off for over 36 hours. I just updated the NES Classics locations there seem to be 5 locations left. The more detailed check that let's me guess how many a store has eg. In Stock (3 or more) and Low Stock (1-2) is still shut down (more then likely permenatly)

Probably at least 90 percent of Nashville residents have a nicer house than this snide little poster.
Sorry I hurt your feelings TrailerParkJohnny.

edit - and I've shot a music video called Trailer Park Hoes in Nashville to know there are Trailer Parks, linking to homes that my family and I live in is quite flattering.

we are all super impressed. will you sign my mousepad?

Well since I'm not paying $100 for another controller.... Bought a cheapo one for $5, used an OEM nes shell (board fits in perfectly) and now I have a Nintendo Classic controller with a 6 foot cable that is a Nintendo controller. Yay!
