Morning OTT. I suffer from a problem .. crotch bulge! As a business professional I'm forced to wear dress pants and for some reason all my dress pants tent up in the crotch area so it always looks like I have a party going on. I hate it.
What the hell dude? You've been going to bed sooooo early.
Yeah, unfortunately I have to wake up at 5:20am. If it werent for the work I wouldnt go to bed until about 1 or so.
My gf specifically asked that I come in here and say the following:

Dear Lord, I hope that tasted a hell of a lot better than it looks

Morning OTT.

Had a 1-2 minute power blip overnight and it caused my Verizon DVR to barf all over itself. For some reason it didn't reinitialize so it just stopped recording and didn't pick back up when the power came back on. Not a huge deal because it was something that replays a few times throughout the week, but still not all that great. Then this morning it was stuck on 'Program information is updating, please wait a few minutes' for a good 30 minutes before I thought to unplug the thing and do a hard reboot - all related to it not reinitializing itself I assume. After plugging it back in it recovered in a few minutes.

My new dvr isnt bad but when the power would go off on my old dvr the program schedule would show "to be announced" for well over 6 hours or so. It was a huge pain in the ass.

This thing was so fubared I couldn't even get into the recorded list. :bomb:

I just hope it doesn't need a hard reboot every time the power goes off. (Shouldn't that be a hard reboot in itself... ) I'd like to think the dumb thing can handle taping my shows if I'm out for a weekend.

LAN Adapter: Best to go first party. I hear tell there is a threat that a system update could always wipe out a third party USB adapter working.
Wow, that wouldn't be very Nintendo of them. And could they do this and not make it so the Wii wouldn't work with a regular wireless router too? The USB adapter is something that hooks into a PC with a net connection and not into the Wii right? So an update to disable 3rd parties would mean the Wii would somehow recognize what the signal is coming from and disallow anything but a 1st party dongle?

I had that same thought.

Only thing is the main Fios box itself runs off a UPS and from what the install guy said only the phones draw power in the event of an outage. So I'm not sure if the problem will still pop up from the main Fios box blipping off. Still, I think it's worth trying. I'll have to keep my eye out for a deal.

Maybe after I pick one up I'll have a mock power outage (flip the main breaker) and see what happens. I do have one UPS right now with my pc, etc. plugged into it but since picking up a laptop that's become not much more than a hub for networked printing. Maybe I should just swap it out...
I'm realizing now that I'm probably going to need a second job. Why the fuck did I decide to be a journalist?
Cause you have a nose for news.

I have three of them in my house. Two of them are set up to provide battery backup to the attached Tivo + cable box, and the third is set up to power the Tivo (no cable box) + DSL modem + wireless router.

Though, one of them died last week and I didn't realize it until I missed some shows. Well, not so much die as it was powered off for no reason. Powering it back on has it working OK, though I need to keep an eye on it during the next power outage/power flicker.

The latest Mac vs. PC commercial dealing with new Windows OS's coming out every 5 years and then all sorts of bugs and wrinkles popping up with it for a while after wasn't all that amusing to me.

The one with the Vista wheel is alright. The one from the prior crop with the 'fatal error' is much better. I think I prefer the ones where PC is a dick.

Oh and I haven't seen it all, but I loved seeing the one with a Mac Genius in one with Mac explaining they are experts who sit around in ever Apple store to solve all your problems. Reminds me of my one experience with an Apple store. Returned something and the guy working the counter couldn't figure out how to print out a receipt using the Mac computers. We had to walk around the mall and come back a few hours later to pick it up. I groused a bit but held back from saying something like "Gee too bad there isn't anyone here who knows anyting about Macs, huh?" Or maybe I should have said "Why doesn't it just work?" Geniuses I tell ya!

Just dug up the genius one on youtube and PC is a dick in it so that = gold.
Is there a point in have 6 Tivo's?
Yeah, being able to watch recorded content in any room of my house, as well as be able to record multiple sources at the same time. The dual-tuner Tivo wasn't an option at the time when I had them.

How does Carla stand in the rain with J.D. for 5 minutes but her makeup doesn't run?

I know mine would have...

Do you really watch TV in 6 different rooms of your house? If so, is it only because you recorded something that is only on the one in that room?

I finally got through The Living Rnd song on hard in Guitar Hero 2. Beat YYZ and the first 4 songs on the last tier, too. I failed Free Bird at 73%. My arm hurts.
The track list so far for the 80's expansion of Guitar Hero 2 is hot.

It's got Holy Diver =O
One of the few cases where awful music is absolutely perfect.
Do you really watch TV in 6 different rooms of your house? The last two don't get much TV watching, so they're mostly there as recording sources.

Content recorded on one Tivo remains on that Tivo, until requested to be viewed on another Tivo. Once that's started, it streams it over to the other Tivo's drive.

I'd be surprised if they did, because I remember when they started announcing extra songs for the 360 version of GH 2, Red Octane or whoever it was said they were going to have a nice surprise for PS2 owners who felt shafted by not getting the extra songs in GH 2.

Maybe they will put them all up for download, but I doubt it, this is the perfect way to get Guitar Hero fans to double dip on both systems.

I wouldn't be surprised if Guitar Hero 3 had mostly the same track list, but then exclusive songs for each version.

 Dio

Dude, the fact that it has the Flock of Seagulls song makes me happy in my pants. I really hope that they'll put some of the exclusive songs from the 360 version on there, too, perhaps as bonus tracks. The Trooper would fit perfectly, though.:bouncy:

Sweeeet. Hopefully we get some Maiden on there.

I wanna play all of Master of Puppets. That entire album is just perfect for GH.

Once the 360 version was announced and I had my 360, I waited on getting the PS2 version for the 360 version. And now, with this 80's edition for the PS2, unless I know it's coming out for the 360, it would make me think to go back to getting the PS2 version.

Damned annoying it is. Almost as bad as Oblivion for the 360 and the "gold" edition of the COD games.

Holy Diver is fucking hilarious. They use it on an episode of South Park when they do a montage. I'm sure subby could tell you which one .

I really wish that I didn't have to go to school because I want a PS3 just that bad. The only way I can get one is if I were to get a job, and I'm not about to work and go to school again, cuz that sucks ass. Maybe I'll just try and jew it out of my family for my b-day.

Since I know everyone in the OTT is a certified MD (and so I should ALWAYS come to the OTT for medical advice)...

for the last 9 months or so I've had "itchy shins." Exacty what it sounds like. My shins itch... like a mofo. They never stop itching without some sort of treatment. If I itch them, they feel better. But the moment I stop itching, relief turns into pain, as I've itched them raw. They are to the point that I can make them bleed practically just by poking them. It sucks when you wake up in the middle of the night because you were unconsciouslly itching them and now you've woken yourself up cause you're in pain and bleeding. I can relieve the itching with an alcohol based anti-itch cream, but that's about it. Lotions, non-alcohol based creams, random shit... don't work. Given that I've had it since before winter, and long after winter, I don't think it's "winter itch." Since lotions don't work and it's only on my legs, I don't think it's exzema (sp?) (aka- dry skin). Any other suggestions? My doctor is a fuckin old school quack who first said winter itch, then dry skin. Suggested different lotions, creams, etc., but refuses to do any other tests or refer me to a dermatologist (I'm on an HMO, so I have to be referred otherwise I have to pay out of pocket).

In otherwords... what do I have and how do I treat it (I need to do the quacks job for him so that I can get the prescription or referred to the dermatologist that can give it to me)?

edit: My legs do NOT look like any of these. Just plain white ass legs that turn red instantly wherever you touch it. http://dermnetnz.org/site-age-specific/lower-leg.html

This is a complete shot in the dark, but is it possible that you're allergic to the laundry detergent you're using? Nine months is a long time and your shins aren't exactly exposed to a lot of outside elements, so it's one option...

I have the multi-room DVR with Verizon which is awesome. Only downside is that you can't stream HD stuff to another box. It's dual tuner of course.

The only downside is it's just a single HDD on one DVR to feed everything. Has a 160GB HDD and can hold a good bit more than my old Cox DVR, but it would be nice if they opened it up to an external HDD add on. I think it could fit 70-80 hours of standard def (each hour seems to take about 1%) or maybe 18-20 hours of high def (each hour seems to take 4-6% - varies by channel it seems like.) So it's not large enough to record everything I'd ever want to save but if I limit it to stuff I'm interested in enough to watch within a week or two I have enough room. Given the option I'd probably add a 200GB+ external HDD.

Warner - I'd switch to a new doctor w/in your HMO unless there is some reason outside of this that compels you to keep this guy. Not being referred to a derm. after all this time would royally piss me off.

Actually, as I was writing my problem, that thought came to mind. But I distinctly remember switching brands of detergent sometime in January cause the price of the one we used to get shot up. So either it's something common in the two types of detergent that hopefully the others don't have or it's not the detergent.

As for other allergies... like you said, shins don't get exposed to much. I almost never wear shorts, so I don't think it'd be exposure to allergens outside of what would normally be present on the inside of my pant leg.

It's something I'm seriously considering. The only reason we have stayed with him this long is the exact reason that's pissing me off now... his aversion to new medical science. For most of the shit we've gone to him for, he says... "Well, there's new medicine out there that supposedly treats this, but I've found that if you just pop a couple [common OTC medicine] + eat a bunch of [random food item (ie- asparagus)] for a week, you'll find that it'll go away on it's own." And sure as shit, he's right. Strangest fucking thing ever, but the guy saved us money and usually knew his shit. This time though... not so much. I wonder if I can switch my PCP, get a referral to a derm, then switch my PCP back to him once this is resolved.
Warner - Have you tried cutting your legs off?

You can't slather alcohol based itch cream on phantom limb itch. :fridge:

I think you'd be able to do that with mine. You switch PCP online, although you have to give a reason and then it looks like an actual person gives the okay. Switching and then switching back to the same PCP in a short time may be a red flag but they have such a shitty website I tend to doubt it.
