You guys want the truth about GS? Ask me.

What percentage of gamers would you say buy used products? I am mainly curious because I am such a pansy that I need everything in mint condition, therefore will never buy used. Which leads me to my next question.
At my store, a good 80-90% have no problem buying used items. Especially because of the return policy on used games. In fact usually the only new stuff we sell are games that have just come out.
There are times where I will trade in my used system or games for store credit, and then proceed to buy brand new games or systems with said credit. Does this piss off GS employees? Like do you ever think to yourself along the lines of "Why the hell wouldn't he buy used stuff when we are taking the used stuff off of his hands?"
I'm not sure exactly what you're saying. You trade in used stuff you bought for the same stuff new? Yeah, I'd think you're an idiot. Though I'm not sure that's what you mean.

If I were to trade in my cube, xb, ps2, and every game I have ever bought for all three systems towards credit towards the PS3... are you going to check every one of those games?!?!!? Also how exactly do you check a system out? See if it boots and if it does, i get the credit? if not I am SOL?

Also have any of you guys ever had people Try to trade in burned copies of a disc using a near perfect copy of the label (using those printable discs)?

Yup, we check every single game. I've had people bring in huge boxes, and we have to go through the whole thing. As for systems, we check those too. We have a TV that's usually playing that EB TV crap, and we just hook it up to that. If it doesn't work, then we can take it as a refurb, but you only get like $15 for it.

We get that will movies a lot. People try to trade in bootlegs. With games people try to trade in demo discs.

wow...bootleg dvds, but never bootleg games?
You never worked retail then, because first dibs is a nature of the game. There are chains with policies against it and some stores probably enforce the rules. We aren't just talking first dibs on merchandise that comes in the door either. First dibs applies to clearanced merchandise as well. Alot of people may get offended by the idea, but there are several chains where quite a few people work there just for dibs. Does it piss me off sometimes sure when its abused, but its just a fine line each store manager/chain has to walk to keep employees/customers happy.
Im not saying it doesnt happen, the part I think thats f'd up is that someone is gonna say that its the workers "right" to get first dibs because they work there. Yes Ive worked retail. I worked for wal-mart for 3 yrs. Im well aware of their policy and all.
I haven't run into any bootleg games yet.
Check your GBA and DS games.

I've seen some people try to trade in bootleg GBA games.

And people have done the switcharoo on DS labels, namely Metroid Prime Hunters.

I have alerted my co-workers on how to check for correct game on DS games.

im just asking a random question, well 3 random questions.

1.Why do most gs/eb members seem extremly stupid and less uniformed then i am?
2.Why does every single gs/eb worker seem to look like he has just woken up,extremly depressed, or high?
3.do gs/eb games rotate their games between stores?

If some clown trades in a game and that game has drawings or writings on the disc, does the price of the game trade in go down or they still get there 3 bucks, yet we still pay 9.99 or more for a used?
What happens to defective games?
They get shipped back to the supplier. They're either fixed or destroyed.

That sounds like new games(every store does that), is it the same with used games?

You're obviously not old enough to have even completed elementary school. Your grammar is atrocious.

Depends on the store. The price won't go down at all, but it's up to the store if they will take in games with writing on the disc.

Hey guys, thought I'd tell you that I spoke to my manager about the rental thing, and he said or District Leader wants us to only rent out the used games to employees. We aren't sure if this is company policy or just our area's policy, but it's a good one nonetheless. Better than renting out new games.

Oh, and I wanted to point out to the poster that asked about why GS employees don't know anything about games, as I am one of those people (well, in a sense, let me explain). I honestly don't play games very often. I keep up on gaming news, and I really love games, but I don't have the time for them. I picked up Dirge of Cerberus a week ago and it hasn't even left the shrink yet. And, for the most part, my taste in games is appararently very different than most buyers: they want sports and racing and shooters, I like RPG's, action/adventure and puzzle games. I have people get mad at me on a daily basis because I don't know the difference between Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 and 2006.
But, as someone else pointed out, it's really about selling the games. It's retail, it's like any other retail job. I do what I can to be knowledgable about the product, but when it comes down to am I going to spend all my time playing games, the answer is no. I think technical knowledge should be more than enough. I mean, the used game policy is really great: if you don't like the game, return it.
And about buying new over used: sometimes it's a good idea, but I gotta say, most times, at my store, we have a nearly brand new copy of a game that was traded, that we sell for maybe $3 less than new. Condition isn't factored into the trading and selling situation (except when refurbing), but sometimes they are in really good condition. (Probably stolen product or something traded in). Best bet is to ask, "What kind of condition is such and such used game in?"

GS takes my EB edge card for the 10% off used games.... but can't accept the store credit on it? Wassup with that?

Did they try to scan the credit slip and everything? I thought since the POS update it was taking it (just not giftcards atm, IIRC).

i bet you do , but do you guys have to do inventory every once and awhile?????

do employees ever "borrow" games *used* without telling management or do they have to fill out forms and stuff. I get that feeling when the online inventory says they have something, I call them and they say they have it, but when I get there they don't have it. Im I to believe that someone has it borrowed?

How come at my EB they dont check to see if even a disc is inside the case? I traded in 6 games and they didnt check a single damn one.

Yea, we have to fill out a sheet for check outs.

EB credit is stored on the Edge Card itself, I don't think they gave out slips.

Whichever employee did that was either dumb or completely absent-minded at the moment. They should ALWAYS check the games.

This is very true. If you're really wary about it, just ask nicely to check the condition of the disc and the case. There's a ton of instances where we'll get a copy of a fairly new-release game in almost brand-new condition. Usually from someone who didn't like it at all, or as you mentioned, sometimes stolen.

I'm sorry that i'm not writing in perfect grammer, i just thought that on forums i should type casually.
I'm sorry that i'm not writing in perfect grammer, i just thought that on forums i should type casually.
I'm not trying to be an ass, it just annoys me. I highly doubt you get away with that kind of grammar in school, or when writing a letter to someone. Just because you're on the internet doesn't mean you can all of a sudden throw English out the window. Also typing like that doesn't look "casual." It makes you look retarded. Like you just mash your hand into the keyboard to type. I'm not even a native English speaker, so I can understand not being perfect. But damn.

Depends on the area. Some let you take out new games, but it has to be a week after they come out.

Okie dokie i'll type in correct english(or as close as i can get to it)for now...Ummm, a real question for all you gamestop/eb workers out there. Are there any gamestops out there that still sell playstation1 games(I live in NJ) and if not is there anywhere i can find playstation1 games for a reasonible price?

GameCrazy, but good luck finding decent ones after the 3 for $15 sale they had. They sell PS1 games for fairly cheap, most are 9.99 or less. Hell, if they had Suikoden 2, it'd be 24.99.. which is awesome.

If Wii comes out say October 25th (just using any date as an example), would you guys get it like October 20th meaning a few days before? And if you do, do GS employees take it home and play with it first? And then just scan the barcode to pay for it on the day it launches?

lmao, no. We can't take systems out. Also with things we receive before the launch date you can't open the box at all until the release date.
Do GS employees actually like playing games?
I think that about the RZ Supervisor at my TRU. She knows nothing about any of the games. Anytime someone asks her something other than the price of something, she calls me over to answer the question(s).

-How do you stand the parents who dump there kids in your store for like an hour or 2 then come to pick them up and not buy anything? In other words your a free babysitter and if anything happens to there kids its your fault huh?

-Ever catch a shoplifter since it seems that the crappy used games are in a bin near the door and some pc games are also near the door.
Ever had to kick out or ban someone from the store?
That would be pretty hard lol, ban someone from a store.(I'm not a gamestop employee)

Do GS employees actually like playing games?
I love playing games. If I'm not at work, I'm home gaming. For example, here's what I have preordered so far this year: Okami, Valkyrie Profile 2, Final Fantasy XII, Yakuza, Baten Kaitos Origins, Rule of Rose, Samurai Warriors 2.

And it's funny sp00ge mentioned that. I used to work at TRU, in the RZ, and I was like the only person in there who knew anything about video games. If I wasn't working they put one of the supervisors in the RZ who knew nothing about video games.

I don't really know. I see kids in the store all the time, but I just don't really care. My co-workers and I bust their balls if they bother us, but other than that I guess it doesn't bother me.
Ever catch a shoplifter since it seems that the crappy used games are in a bin near the door and some pc games are also near the door.
I haven't seen any shoplifters yet. Though we don't have any live games on the floor. The PS1 games were live, but we don't have anymore of those left.
Ever had to kick out or ban someone from the store?
During the school year, all the time. We don't allow kids in the store, without a parent, during school hours once school begins. It's a state law. So we're kicking kids out all the time.

Also one time there was this group of badass kids going around smearing chocolate and shit on the store windows, and opening the door and swearing at us. So we called the cops, who told them if they come near the store again they'll be arrested.

Pretty exciting times eh? I have another question, my one friend used to work at a gamestop and he said that gamestop employee's can reserve any game that will eventually come out(ex:He has naruto uzumaki chronicle reserved already, and the gamestop i go to doesn't even know its coming out).
If we can reserve it, so can customers. It has to be in the system.
That is not exactly true, we used to be able to use the blank sku for reserves. So you could input the name of the game you wanted to reserve, but most stores stopped doing that for customers, because it can be a rip off. (I know there are still reserves at my old store for the Daredevil game)

So yeah we could reserve unlisted games.

Also, I might have missed the answer to the Wii question, and the big thing is that if it were to be found out that people at GS were checking out product before release. Nintendo would not do primary shipping to GS stores, meaning we would not get the product until a month into its release cycle.

Is Gamebucks truly the same thing as cash? Like if someone drops $1200 on PS3 launch in Gamebucks, does the manager gripe and wish that was $1200 in cash/credit card/check or is it truly the same shit to Gamestop?
lmao, no. We can't take systems out. Also with things we receive before the launch date you can't open the box at all until the release date.
That's a lie, they can be opened to be received but then must be put in the back. Unless your store doesn't do that.

Our Halo 2 ones were. Alot of big media releases are, the latest Harry Potter book was too. Plus there are random spot checks by the company reps.

Plus, when I worked for Geek Squad, I remember being at this one store that opened a Disney movie shipment early and places them in pre-setup mode. For each movie out of the shipping docket, they were charged 10,000 dollars.

Excuse me. That's not a lie at all. Maybe where you are they can be opened, but we're not allowed to open the boxes on anything we receive early. Unless it's something small. Like if we got an early shipment of, I don't know, Baten Kaitos Origins. No one would really care. I was at the midnight selling of Madden, that's when we opened the boxes.

I don't work in gamestop but when Madden 07 came out the people who work at my local gamestop had the whole stock ready to be sold say 9:45 pm, but no one was allowed in the store, matter a fact the door was locked

Well, think about it.
You already gave them your $1200 already thru trades. Obviously cash is better since its more for them - they'd rather you just lost the tiny slip with your $1200

your gonna hate me for asking this but...

-How long til people start calling your store to ask if you have a Wii ? or Is your Wii's working? or whats the trade in value for my used wii? (all sexual stupid jokes) , these are calls made by teenagers of course.
