ZUNE and your X360 - ZUNE HD Now in 64GB - Latest Update Now Supports AVI/XviD

TRU will have the Brown Zune 30GB for $80 on Black Friday.

Question - I'm not a huge fan of the brown, but would do it. Are the cases good for hiding a color?

Also, any adapters that allow you to use your Zune with iPod docks, such as alarm radios?

The new firmware looks nice, but from what I read, they gimped the software and made it easier to use. It would be nice to have the option for the original interface on the Zune Marketplace. Maybe also customize the font size on the Zune menu as well. I'm holding off until the kinks are worked out. So far I love the zune depiste the quirkyness of it.

I found a background image that looks really cool with the new firmware font, and its just in time ;-)
Oh wow, love the new firmware, the software and the way it changed my actual Zune. Wow this is awesome!
Because , you know , Microsoft is an evil company . ;)

Don't tell that to the Apple faithful . They're stuck with the same old interface .

That's ok, Apple elitists yuppies are expected to be able to afford to toss their Ipods in the trash whenever they want new firmware.

I was kinda hoping to be able to use the Zune software as the default media player on my PC, but the functionality is too limited...especially with video. I'm going to have to stick with WMP, I think.

Plus, Last.fm doesn't scrobble anything I listen to on the software side...at least Zenses will scrobble everything I listen to on the device, so that's a plus.

Thats because they want you to scrobble to the new "social" lol its a buncha crap.

I HATE the new Zune software, they took out all of the (minimal in the first place) advanced options and made it so a retard could work it. It's trash.

I do like the firmware, but I wish there was an option to resize that overly huge main menu font.

The huge update was 50% to me, they really screwed the pooch with the software.

I'm having trouble getting my questions answered.

I have a 4GB Mini right now. I use it everyday in the car, and I use it at the gym and sometimes use it at night with my alarm clock.

Why would I want to switch (or at least try) the Zune?

It has 30GB of space available. I'd say the larger size would only be good for me to upload movies. What format does it use for videos?

I see very few accessories for the Zune, and what I do see are fairly expensive compared to iPod stuff. Is this going to change with the new ones coming out?

WiFi looks fairly useless unless there's another Zune. True?

I thought it had RDS? The Zune I played with at Best Buy didn't display any info besides the numerical designation.

Its got easy to use software, supports pictures and videos. Very durable.

30GB is the old model, new ones come in 4GB, 8GB, and 80GB. Difference here is just the size of the unit and hard drive. Video formats...well there's quite a few: http://www.zune.net/en-us/products/compare.htm

I see very few accessories for the Zune, and what I do see are fairly expensive compared to iPod stuff. Is this going to change with the new ones coming out?
iPod is more mainstream so 3rd party companies make more accessories for it, with the popularity of the Zune increasing you should see cheaper alternatives.

WiFi looks fairly useless unless there's another Zune. True?
No. You can use it to share or to sync up new music, pictures, videos, or purchase new songs wirelessly. (Have to be within range of wireless access point)
I thought it had RDS? The Zune I played with at Best Buy didn't display any info besides the numerical designation.
What's RDS?

It does have RDS(or something like it) but if I'm getting bad reception on the station sometimes it doesn't go through, so that may have been it. It might even use headphones as a radio antenna like some other devices I've seen so if they're not plugged in that could further the problem. Some stations also do a poor job of implementing it.

I just noticed that one of the supported video formats is:

DVR-MS[6] – Zune software will transcode at time of sync.

Could this be a future product thing. I would love to DVR some shows and watch them later on my Zune like at lunch time at work.

EDIT: Damn its Media Center:
[6] Standard definition TV recordings from Windows Media Center. HDTV and protected recordings not supported. Must be running Zune Software 2.0 on Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate.

30GB is what I'm getting - $80 is my sweet spot, and TRU will have it next Friday.

As far as wireless, I read that it wouldn't support one of the wireless security standards. I just read that it will support the one I'm using (WEP 128).

Found a nice little Griffin iPod/USB car charger that will work out great for the Zune at Wally World tonight, so I'm not as concerned with the accessories as much anymore. I realized how much better my iPod sounds through the tape deck than my FM Tunebase. That will work out nice.

Might have to take some headphones with me to BB and see how the RDS works with an antenna source. Looks like I'm back on the road to getting one, now that I have the car situation all sorted out.

Are there any off brand Zune accesories yet? I really do not want to pay $20 for a second Zune sync cable when all it is is a USB with a different pin-out on one end.

Okay, im still having problems with the album info, i need a guide in english, i dont understand anything in the instructions Hohez posted, Im not that great with computers.

I just want my music to watch up to what it says on the screen...How come it shows me a cover for Al Green and Im hearing a Marylin manson song, and ive got Stevie wonder music in my NWA folder and Eric Clapton is in my Afro Samurai Soundtrack!!

I'm liking the new software .. sleeker, easier to use, faster scrolling, and I love the wireless syncing. If only I wasnt having a problem with foreground volume being softer than the background volume I'd absolutely be in love with this thing.

Anyone know how to set pictures to landscape as wallpaper? I downloaded the Halo pictures set from the Halo Zune and there's some great images in there but some are landscaped images, and they end up zoomed in and upright...kinda hard to explain but they don't stay as they are displayed.

BTW: This issue was present in the old firmware as well.

Just a thought...try rotating it 90 degrees on your PC before syncing?

Dunno, I guess its worth a shot, but the images are sized exactly for the Zune, I thought it would automatically adjust them correctly.

you could try places like this or this

many others can be found via google

Love the new firmware. Adding podcasts was a piece of cake (including the CAGCast) and my recorded tv shows through Vista automatically sync as well. I spent my first half hour at work today watching family guy. Can't complain.

Great update.
Since more people are getting into this, anyone have any in-car setups they'd like to share?
I have the fm radio transmitter. Its sucks. Don't get it.
Since more people are getting into this, anyone have any in-car setups they'd like to share?
I bought a Pioneer Car Stereo with MP3 player output jack. Sounds great! Don't get FM Transmitters, it downgrades the quality to FM quality.
Since more people are getting into this, anyone have any in-car setups they'd like to share?
If you have a mp3 outlet or cassette tape. Get the adapter for those. I've been using the Monster FM Transmitter, its not quite as good as through the cassette adapter, but its pretty clear and has a lot of prescence.

With FM transmitters, it helps to detach your car's antenna so that you can keep the radio focused on the signal inside the car.

No Gamestops in Tampa have the Zune 80. The store locator seems to be down and the site is on backorder. Since the release date on the site was tomorrow, maybe it'll be updated and stores will get their stock in. Otherwise, Kmart seems to be the cheapest place to get it.

Well, I've been using the FM Tunebase with my Mini for the last six months. In preparation for the Zune arrival, I went back to the tape. I was blown away by how much clearer it was.

Sound is better, but I have another problem: the Tunebase was also the charger/mount for the iPod. I've been scouring the net the last two days looking for iPod/Zune in-car setups because I haven't thought of anything that will work.

I read that the mounts that are made for the fat iPod work just fine, so I've been looking at those to get a little better pricing. The Belkin Tunedok looks good, except that my cupholders are a little too far back. Plus, I can't afford to take up a space on trips with my wife.

So, I tried a vent mount - no good. Too high, and I don't want wires everywhere. I also tried the Mini dock, but that didn't work either. And if that didn't work, the big ass Zune docks won't work either.

So, I know what I think I want to do, but am brainstorming how to do it. That's why I'm asking for tips. It's impossible to find Zune install pics, iPod ones that show up are hard enough.

(BTW, I really liked the line out on the Mini dock, does the Zune also have that? I noticed that when I went to the tape, a lot of my songs had volume variances, so...)

The main problem is I'm working with a leased car that I have to turn in in May, so no permanent installations or new headunits. I'd like to have the iPod/Zune low so that wires are minimal, but high so it's easily visable (no in-dash display options)

I decided I really dont like how the new software screwed up my library. Not to mention I dont like the actual software that much. I have no problems w/ the actual device though. So I think Im gonna give it to my brother for christmas, because he doesnt have a mp3 player.

anyone know a or the best converter to use to get files to play on zune, i have a few avi and such files that i cant get onto zune so im trying to find a converter that does good jobs with the quality and still does a fast job too.

I've synced my new Zune 3-4 times since Tuesday and I've noticed that it's creating duplicate tracks on a handful of CDs...no rhyme or reason to it that I can discern, it just seems to pick a random song and create copies of it everytime I sync.

EDIT: The tracks are only duplicated on my device, not in my library.

All of my other tags and album artwork are fine...I'm not experiencing that issue, at least.

Is anyone else getting the duplicate issue?

Haven't had a single issue with the new update/software.

Do you have it set to "auto sync"? Maybe the new software thought the music you already had is new? I don't know.

I have a Pioneer DEH-6900UB, which has both the standard 3.5mm aux and a usb port (extension usb cable plugs into back and is wired into glovebox). I use it with my flash drive (should work the same way with zune).
Do you have it set to "auto sync"?
Thanks for the suggestion...it's worth a try!

The DAP automatically syncs to my collection whenever I connect it to my PC...I don't see a setting to turn this off.

Can you point me in the right direction?

While connected to your PC, on the software. Click on Device (on the left), then settings (on the right), then sync options.

I have mine set to "Let me choose my...." all across the board and haven't had any issues.

Ive had the Album/art/info mess with my upgrade I fixed after finding a guide on the Zune.net forums. Everything on my zune library is in the correct order,

But the music on my zune device is still mixed up and there are extras, the only solution i can find is to erase my zune and upload all the music again.

I think I may have found a solution to my problem:

Samsonite makes a belt/car clip kit that might work. I'm going to experiment with it today and see how it works. The Zune is a good 2oz heavier, so we'll see...

A link to that guide would be awesome...

I so don't want to re-load my Zune...I've got 62GB of music and it took almost 3 hours to get everyone onto it. It'll have to be my last resort.

2 pages back I posted the fix that solved this problem for me.

I like the artwork showing when a song is playing. That's a nice touch.

OK, maybe not. Does the artwork function SUCK for anyone else on the PC side? I just loaded all my music, and maybe 10% or less has the right artwork.

OK, looks like it just takes awhile.

OMG, though: I originally had edited all the IDv3 stuff manually through WinAmp, and a bunch of it isn't showing up properly.

Guess I'll have to go back and re-edit around 5k worth of songs. Ugh.

Anyone know how to change album art? My sister had an iPod before I had a Zune and it picked up her album covers which she chose band photos instead of actual album art, I prefer the later so is there a way for me to change them? I tried right-clicking and choosing "change album art" but it didn't do anything.

There a few forum's out there that offer Zune Card support for peoples signature, Ive tried embedding it into my Sig in all sorts of different ways and it doesnt work, seems that it needs to have the forum support it.

Hey Linkin, ya think ya can help us out with that, it would be a neat feature to add into the forums, since the Zcard wont do no good just sitting at Zune.net.

As for you question about album art, I had no problem just changing around the album art in Windows Media, if that doesnt work try asking someone on the Zune.net forums, Its very helpful for all those technical problems

Right click on the Album art in the Zune software and select 'update album art' it should let you pick a picture from your PC .
Make sure you're in the view that shows all of your albums . If you are not just click video and back to music and it will reset the album view .

I used google image search to find at least 300 x 300 pixel artwork or in your case a picture .
I just put the in the same folder and slowly updated everything I wanted to .

I want a Zune pretty bad , I'm gonna drop a hint to my wife to try to get one for Christmas .

I expect the Zune cards to be functional on this site by then . ;)

I tried that but it doesn't update the ones that already have a picture, only works on the ones with no picture.

What device were you updating since you currently have no Zune?

My U2 ipod , iTunes will let you change individual song art or Ctrl-A for the entire album .

Yes, heres a link on a tutorial for embedding it into sites like facebook and myspace as well as other sites, and features the different sizes so you wont have a humongous card to load the page in each sig

http://forums.zune.net/9996/ShowPost.aspx

zuneboards.com (not an official microsoft zune.net site) has the support feature

http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/site-news/12830-zune-boards-has-zunecard-support.html

I googled some stuff and this guy at guild wars managed to do it

http://guildwars.gameamp.com/forum/showTopic/66093.php

Im not sure if there are others out there but, this is the evidence ive seen so far.

Thats awesome but I don't see it happening here. As I recall, CheapyD doesn't support Macromedia Flash type embeded images. Best thing to do, is start a thread here asking CheapyD if he could incorporate it into the site.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13

If not, feel free to copy the zune logo (in my sig) and just link it to your your account.
