ZUNE and your X360 - ZUNE HD Now in 64GB - Latest Update Now Supports AVI/XviD
anyone know the best free and easy to use video converter to use on videos that i can put onto my zune
try encode360, it is free and it works pretty well
The Zune shows album artwork when playing music, right? Any way for it to play a visualization, like WMP?
Plays album art or if it doesn't have album art it shows your wallpaper. No visualizations options. Maybe a future firmware update?

Thinking about picking up a 30GB Zune on BF, just have 1 question.

Can the 30 GB Zune play MPEG4/h264 videos with the updated firmware or can only the new models play them?

Yes it can:

Recorded TV or movies to go. Zune will automatically import unprotected .WMV, .MPG4 and H.264 files into your video library. Also, if you’re recording TV shows or movies with Windows Media Center in Windows Vista®, you can import and sync them to your device. Load up your favorite videos and hit the road.[3]

key word is import. You will have to convert them to WMV's which is the only video file the Zune 30 supports natively. The Zune 80 supports h.264 mpeg 4 natively which means you just drap and drop them onto the zune.

I think they just mean "import" as in move from your PC to your Zune. The Zune 80 page has the same thing:

That stinks, although it's not unexpected. Not sure if any portables do.

Would have been nice during a 1-hr Oakenfold play.

Anyone know if the Zune Radio Crap will be offering is brown (shown) or will it be any color? I have a feeling they are dumping the brown ones (TRU w/ the $80 one).

I wish I had a brown one instead of my black one.
I wish I had a brown one instead of my black one.
You could probably sell your black one to cover the BF deal. We could do a trade, but that would probably be more trouble than it's worth.

What's bad about the Black one, and good about the Brown one? Brown won't be too bad, it'll match our new car in May.

Anybody know how to make the new Zune software force a manual Podcast update? It kills me that I can't get it to refresh the NPR hourly news while I'm working at my PC.
Anybody know how to make the new Zune software force a manual Podcast update? It kills me that I can't get it to refresh the NPR hourly news while I'm working at my PC.
Did you not subscribe to the podcast? It should auto-update with new stuff.
Did you not subscribe to the podcast? It should auto-update with new stuff.
x 2. I'm subscribed to 5 or 6 different podcasts (CAGcast and CAG Foreplay included :)) and they all auto dl the new episodes.
Did you not subscribe to the podcast? It should auto-update with new stuff.
Of course I did! But it only will sync once a day (or so). I hate to say it, but in iTunes there's a little "refresh" button so that you can automatically check for updated content for every subscribed feed. So when I want to listen to the 5:00 PM news at 5:30, this software only downloads the 11:00 AM news. I want the latest. I guess that's why they don't list the NPR hourly news feed in the Zune Marketplace. I had to put it in manually. So it does auto-download my other feeds, but it just doesn't update my hourly news feeds (NPR and CBC) as frequently as I'd like.

I'm also getting frustrated that there's no option to not auto-delete podcasts after they're done. Sometimes I'll listen to 1up yours, which is sometimes nearly 3 hours long, and when I'm halfway done I'll sync up. This deletes the podcast that I'm in the middle of. Since there is a fast scrolling option for video podcasts that's not too much of a big deal. However the scrolling for audio podcasts is painfully slow.

This gen is a huge leap over last gen, but it's still not all it needs to be. But for my $100 this was a great buy. Much happier to have a few hiccoughs and pay $100 than have an iPod which has other issues and costs $300.

Anyone know how to update the artist info on the songs in the new software? I fixed my album info problem but now i find only 3 songs in the wrong artist in my whole collection of 5000 + songs...Just three...and i dont know how to fix it, the program wont let me change who the artist is on the song, just the name of the song.

You have to updated/edit under your "collection" in the software, you can't make any changes under "device". Once you make the edit/changes it will automatically update your Zune's file if you're plugged in.
Differences between Zune 30GB and 80GB?
From Zuneinfo.com
Memory
The obvious major difference between the Zune 30 and Zune 80 is the size of the memory. The number stands for how many gigabytes (GB) of memory each Zune has. The Zune 30 has 30 GB and the new Zune 80 has 80 GB. The Zune 30 already holds 7,500 songs, 25,000 or even 100 hours of video. With the Zune 80 you can nearly triple those numbers!
Dimensions
The main difference between the Zune 30 and Zune 80 regarding size is the thickness, weight and length. The new Zune 80 is 0.50 inches thick (reduced from 0.58) and a litter shorter. The main difference is the reduced weight yet increased screen size. The Zune already had a much bigger screen than the iPod. The screen grows from 3 inches to 3.2 inches and is great for viewing movies or TV shows.
Navigation Pad
The Zune 30 has a circular directional pad that is close to what you would use on a TV remote control. The new Zune 80 upgrades to a Zune Pad that is a touch sensitive surface d-pad much like the iPod with functionality of the Zune 30 navigation as it has the functionality of both.
Price
The good news is the new Zune 80 is being offered at the same price as the Zune 30 was when it was first introduced at $249. So, new Zune users get a significant upgrade (almost 3 times the capability) for the same price of the original Zune. It is not uncommon though to find Zune 30s being sold for less than $100 on major retailer websites or store or for much less on Ebay.
Additionally, Zune is offering Zune 4 (retail: $149.99) and Zune 8 (retail: $199.99) (again 4 GB and 8 GB memory) that are mini-Zunes that are flash based. Like all Zunes they have WI-FI functionality to sync up with other Zunes or your computer.

Thats the whole deal, but basically is a lighter smaller slimmer design with a slightly bigger screen glass screen instead of plastic, more memory obviously and the Zune Pad that is touch sensitive and can be used as a D-pad, also if you buy the new ones, they come with the 40 dollar premium headphones

Is it safe to run/workout with the Zune 30? Or a no go because it is hard drive based?

I still have a 1st generation 1GB iPod Shuffle but I wouldn't mind 30GB of space just to have all music on there and be able to see my damn songs!
So, how does the zune friend's list work? Can you view it on the zune?
Not viewable on your Zune as far as I know. You can see them on your Zune.net profile. Its your XBOXLive friendslist. You can however see your messages on your Zune though they have to be imported from your PC If I understand correctly, I haven't tried it myself.

I've used mine on a treadmill all the time, and other machines...no issues, just a little big for work outs, but you watch videos on its pretty big screen.

I'm going to try and trade my DS Lite with games for a black 30GB. If anyone is interested in this thread maybe that wants to upgrade to the 80GB I'll take your white/black 30GB zune off you and give you a DS Lite with 5 games.

How is interactivity with the 360? If I rip my The Office seasons into the correct format to play on Zune, if I plug it into the 360 through USB it will play and look good?

I managed to finally get a Zune .
I checked the CC website and noticed the Brown Zune was $99.99 , but only available for in-store pick-up .

Cool , I thought , but no stores near me had one .
So I start putting in different Zip Codes and viola !
I see there's one at a store about 20 miles away and order it without hesitation .
This is at 6:00am mind you , and I'm on my way to work .

So I finally get the chance to go pick it up at 7:45pm , I get there at around 8:20 .
I proceed to the counter and tell them 'I am here to pick up my web order'
and give them the order number .
They begin to look around , she goes in the warehouse and out about 3 times .
At this time I mention to the other cashier that I think I qualify for the $24 gift card .
She says don't worry about it .

Finally the original cashier comes out of the warehouse with a Black Zune , 'this is the only one we have , is this color ok ?'

Hell yeah it is ! the black Zune is still normal price [$199] , plus they still hooked me up with the gift card .
I was amazed , I thought I was going to have to end up arguing with them and the management .

I ended up using the gift card towards Scene It .

I'm sure I'll have a bunch of zune related questions soon .

If the video works properly on the Zune device itself than it works on the 360 as well with no problem whatsoever. just plug it in or if you know how it should sync up wirelessly as well.

The local gamestop/EB games SHOULD have them, since they are licensed to sell them but amazingly they dont have them in stock but they have plenty of the 4 and 8 gig ones. You could trade your DS + games for store credit and use the store credit towards the purchase of the new zune, thats what im doing...at least hopefully they get them in before christmas.

Ordered a cheap Brown 30gb from one of the BB online sales yesterday - probably end up being my car player until I can get a hold of one of the 80gb Originals. =)

Decided not to go with a Zune. There's just too much of an Apple marketshare with their dock connector for me to switch.

I'll pay more upfront, but it will pay off in the longterm.

Thanks for all the advice.

There's a 10%/free shipping coupon for overstock right now, which would make a refurb black/white 30 gig $117.

Dell has new brown 30 gigs for $96+tax/shipping.

Buy.com had some good deals on refurbs early today, but they're already gone. I lost my brown one from last December last week, so I've been on the lookout for a good sub-$100 deal.

So I've just organized, tagged, and associated album artwork to all my mp3s/albums with mediamonkey. My question is, how do I get my zune to recognize these changes when I sync? Do I have to erase my zune or something?

Is your Zune software set to monitor the file where your updated tracks are kept? If so (and you've disabled the "auto-corrections" feature in the Zune software) it'll update the info next time it scans that file...and then sync the changes to the device next time you sync.

Essentially, you should just have to launch the Zune software and let it sit for a bit.

So I just got a Zune from Meijer.com for $95 shipped (And it arrived at my house 2 days after I ordered it) it's pretty cool so far, but my question is, how do I put videos (downloaded movies, tv shows, etc that I got from torrents) on it? I told it to add the videos in my E drive but none of them show up so I can't even add any onto the device...Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

You can drag and drop or you can add folders under your settings so that the software automatically detects the videos. Also, they have to be in acceptable file formats or Zune will decline them.

Hmm, it doesnt seem to be doing that. For some things (like new or changed album art) it will show the changes. But for other things (like deleted albums or songs) its not reflecting the changes. For example, I deleted a few Led Zeppelin albums a few days ago but its still showing that its there. Is there something I can do to have it rescan my library?

EDIT: Looks like I found the answer to my question ...

I went to my TRU today and discovered they magically have 3 brown Zunes .
They had 2 on the 22nd .

I suspect some fowl play with inventory .

AGHH!!!!!!!!!

I cant find the Zune 80 ANYWHERE!!!! they either dont have them in stock, they never even heard of them or they direct me to where the Ipods are at.

Every store within a 200 MILE RADIUS has nothing!!!, even online stores have them listed out of stock....

Im Going to take this moment to cry....
I cant find the Zune 80 ANYWHERE!!!!
There's been some press on the scarcity of Zune 80's for the last week or so...Microsoft insists that more will be on the market for December Week 1.

They're going for upwards of $400 on Ebay right now...I'd suggest monitoring www.nowinstock.net/zune for local inventory levels.

Yea, according to Microsoft, they're 6 weeks behind. So it should be about 4 weeks till we start seeing them back in stores.

The removal of equalizers on the Zune 80 has me on the fence. Music just sounds so much better using the 'Electronics' one.
