ZUNE and your X360 - ZUNE HD Now in 64GB - Latest Update Now Supports AVI/XviD

Just bought a Zune (old style) and I am having problems downloading songs from the marketplace. I receive an error each time. Anyone else have this problem.
Can anyone reccommend me an easy to use file converter so I can put my movies on the Zune? Thanks
I don't really put any videos on my Zune (only put a few on when I first got it), so someone else might be able to point you towards something better, but I used a program called SUPER that was easy enough to use. It was kind of slow to convert things when I used it, but that was almost a year ago so maybe the newer versions are faster.

Also, anyone looking to use your Zune cards in your sigs, the folks behind MyGamerCard.net have set up an image-based Zune Card you can use:

you can get the image at the following URL:
http://card.mygamercard.net/apps/zune/ZUNETAG.png where ZUNETAG is your actual tag from Zune.net
Combine it with a link to your Social page!

OK, I may be back in the Zune-wanting business. I realized that the iPod stuff I have will still work with my Mini, and I can always get an in-line FM modulator to have really nice sound with any car radio ($30).

Plus, my new phone will play movies in widescreen mode, so there's not as much impetus to get something that will be compatible with iTunes, etc. It uses WMP, so...

Now I just need to figure out how to get TV shows on a Zune (or otherwise) without having to rent and rip.

Depends on what settings you use. I use the following:

WMV format
Video
320x240
1500 bitrate

Audio
128 bitrate
48000 sample rate

Even with static settings, the file size varies. Ive had 25 minute tv episodes anywhere from 80mb to 200mb each. 1.5 hour movies from 400-700mb.

Holy crap.

I've been trying to get the Matrix encoded, but my computer keeps freezing. Tried using DvdShrink about four times last night, each time it hung up. Then finally got it copied over via DVDDecrypter, and it froze trying to download SUPER.

Maybe I'll actually get some crap done today.

Has anyone gotten a hands-on with the 80GB yet?

I have an 80GB...I like it a lot, but the software's taking some getting used to.

That is absolutely fantastic, thanks for posting that.

I don't know about anyone else, but SUPER did not work for me. Kept giving me errors trying to encode The Matrix.

I was able to use PocketDivxEncoder to convert it into an .avi, and now I'm giving SUPER a chance to convert it into a .wmv. We'll see how that goes.

I agree, the hardware is very nice but the software really sucks. Even if I set my settings to manual syncing, the software still syncs some videos and songs automatically.

Other then that, I love my Zune 80. Retired my 30 GB Ipod Video after getting my 80.

Handbrake said it was going to take over 6 hours to convert a movie. That's ok. If that's the only thing that works, then fine. But I would hope I could get more than one done, and have it not wait until overnight.

I might try Windows Media Encoder again, but that program seems dodgy. Keeps blinking at me and not doing a whole lot.

I was directed to this great post in the Zune forums that I wanted to suggest to everone here:

I dumped a 60GB Toshiba Gigabeat for this...I really liked it but I was running out of HD space and needed the upgrade. The interface of the Gigabeat and Zune are both WMP based, so it wasn't much of a leap.

Interesting read.

Well, I've downloaded MediaCoder in the hopes that this will work, to at least get it to MP4 format. I wish I could find something that works great and is free to go straight to WMV format, but I haven't found anything yet.

I'm glad I decided to get the bugs out before I got (whatever my purchase will be). I had no idea movies would compress down so small. I should try my first season of Dawson's Creek next, as that's about the only thing I own that is a TV show.
The black 80gb zune is on Amazon right now for $248. I'm thinking about getting it.
Dooooo it.

You've been good this year, right?

Nice to old ladies, small children, and Republicans?

No tax and free ship...not too shabby.

Let's see: I got $50 so far. If I can sell my DS bundle that's another $100. So just $100 more to go.

I know I don't have the fastest computer around anymore, but I don't have a piece of shit, either. This is unbelieveably frustrating - so much so, if something doesn't work soon, I'm going to abandon the idea of a Zune or a new iPod altogether. It's THAT fucking frustrating.

So, here's where I stand: I've ripped the movie to file in DVDDecoder. I've then converted the movie to an .avi. (Haven't found a program yet that will compile the movie straight into WMV without crashing). Now, I'm on my 30th prgram (M2PMCEncoderZX) and it's working to convert from .avi to .wmv.

Unfortunately, it's working at about .5-.75 realtime. So this two hour movie is going to take over three hours to complete.

So someone, help me out. Give me something that works solid. I don't care if I have to pay for it after a trial at this point, I just want this shit to not be aggravating anymore. ARGH.

My nephew uses xilisoft or something he aquired on the internet .
Give that a try .
It'll only encode the 1st 5 minutes of something in the trial version .
Maybe you'll be able to determine if you like it or not based on that .

http://www.xilisoft.com/

Trying this one more time: now I'm using DVD Catalyst. It outputs in 320x208, but it'll do for now. I just want to get ONE done correctly.

Since it takes 4+ hours, we'll have to see in the morning. Night all.

The 80GB Zune is now available with laser-engraved etching from www.zuneoriginals.net.

I wish I had known these were coming or I might have waited...very sexy, and they're the same price as a "normal" Zune 80.

Please post pics, if you can! Would love to see it when you get it.

I'm torn between "Headphones" and "Ghetto 1" from the Art and Text collection, or the Phunk speaker dudes from the Art collection.

I need to stop looking at that site...it's just making me angry that I bought mine early!

I posted about these a few posts back...sorry you missed it. I'm tempted to upgrade but I really don't need the space, I got 8GB left. If I was to upgrade it would probably be through Best Buy since I have gifcards there but it is killing me to think that I can have this:
monkeyyi8.png

I won a 30GB zune through a contest at work, is it worth keeping? Should I try to exchange it at best buy for the newer one? I know some peeps at BB that would exchange it for me and make me pay the difference, but if it is not worth paying 50 bones more i'll just keep it.

Not commenting on anything else, yes, it's worth it.

For $50 you'd be getting:
Glass screen vs plastic
Smaller size and weight
New control pad
Better battery (perhaps - testing is still ongoing)
Bigger display (3.2 to 3.0)
WPA2
Premium headphones

Oh yeah, and 50 more gigs.

Let's put it this way: at the $150 difference that it will be for me, I would go with the 80GB.

Yeah, just got finished converting the Matrix. I tried something else overnight and it didn't work, so I gave in and tried Cucusoft.

And it actually worked. I was amazed. Figures the $30 product would work, but oh well. Guess if that's what I have to pay, that's what I have to pay. It works on my phone, too. Too bad it didn't come with a trial that didn't fork the movie. Now when I buy it I'll have to redo it.

Now that I know this thing is going to work, I suppose I'll start listing a bunch of stuff on eBay today to try and raise the funds. No one is biting here, and I want to get it around Christmas time.

The file came in about 568MB, so I could fit three on a 2GB microSD and a shitton on the 80GB.

I REALLY like the price point of the 30GB right now, but I have to decide if I want to use this long-term. If I do, then I probably need to spring for the 80GB. The reviews say it looks and feels less like a toy than the 30GB does.

Oh yeah, have to fix my computer as well. I got so pissed at it last night I disloged a IDE cable and it broke a blade on my CPU fan. Now it's loud as shit.

Found a couple of good deals on Amazon for OEM Zune chargers!

Zune Car Charger
HERE
$2.67 (87% off!)

Zune Wall/Travel Charger
HERE
$1.75 (94% off!)

If these are the same ones that Monoprice sells, I've got 'em. They're compatible with the 4, 8, 30, and 80 and charge the device MUCH faster than hooking it up to my PC.

Shipping sucks, of course...about $8 to send them to me in NY, but it doesn't kill the deal IMO.

Wow, those are tempting. I think I'll pass though, as I got a USB charger for the car, and I'll just use my USB cable (that I won't be using thanks to wireless sync) and charge that way. Good looking, though.

I guess I'm going to plunk down that (whatever) amount of money to buy Cucusoft tomorrow. I'm really hoping that some of this stuff I'm putting on eBay is going to sell, I'd love to be able to afford the 80GB before Christmas.

Now here's a dilemma: I'm returning my 360 to Microcenter on Tuesday and taking advantage of the return program. Mainly because I'd like an Elite, and also because MS sent me a console with a non-Region 1 DVD code. So, do I spend $50 and get an Elite, or do I just get a replacement and use the $100 difference and also grab the Zune?

Decisions...

BTW, how often do these Zune cards update?

I bought a 30g zune back in june 07. Updated to the new firmware and software. Totally hated it after that. I couldnt get the wireless sync to work at all. Transferring songs takes really long (took a 6 hours to transfer 23gigs of music). The software needs a lot of work.

I ended up returning it to bestbuy (Thank god for the Replacement plan) and exchanging it for an iPod Touch.

Everytime you connect your Zune to the Zune software and sign in.

Sounds like you were using USB 1.0 instead of USB 2.0 .

I had a similar situation with speed so I went out and bought a USB 2.0 PCI card .

Zune Original? HA HA! Lame

Zune 2? Gimme a Break!

Zune Phone? Thats what the bitches want

Very Un-original concept there.....Meh I'd hit that

The Zune 3 is available in 16GB, and 32GB flash memory sizes.
NIICE!

^^^^

You do realize that that's fake?

And about how a lot of people think Microsoft copies off of Apple, that "Zune Phone" would definitley not help with that perception.
So what's the actual capacity of the 80GB?
According to the meter on my sync tab, I've got 59.00 GB used + 20.80 GB free...so the total capacity must be 79.80 GB.

Its a fan-mock up concept...of course its fake. and yeah very un-original design

Although its not like Apple invented the damn MP3 player, so automatically its copying when anything tries to compete with the Ipod?

Ever since the update, it takes a long time for me to both sync & download compared to how it used to be. It used to take around 25 seconds to put a 600mb video on my Zune, now it takes around 30 minutes. I'm using the same USB 2.0 port that I was using before.

For the downloads, it used to download 6 tracks at a time, usually only taking 10 seconds a track, now it downloads 2 at a time at around the same speed.

I do like Apple's cosmetics, I'd jump on a Zune 3 if it looked like that. Leave the phone crap out, though.

Matter of fact, I've narrowed my choices to three things: Zune 30, Zune 80 and 8GB Touch.

HOLY crap. If I get one and it takes that long, it's going back.

So how well does that wifi sync work with the Ipod Touch?
HOLY crap. If I get one and it takes that long, it's going back.
I don't have any issues with transfer speed. A whole CD zips onto the player in a matter of seconds. I put 13 episodes of Clone High on my Zune in about 2 minutes. Wifi transfer speeds are comparable.

YMMV of course, but I've found my Zune 80 to be quick and intuitive. With the exception of the (easily resolved) metadata issue on day 1 I've got no complaints.
